We knew it was coming but that's just huge.

Amazing. I heard Richard Hughes was a chancer who did nothing and somehow he’s managed to get Mo and Virg to sign.

It’s like it doesn’t make any sense.

Glad they have signed but come on, it should not have taken to the point of having 2.5 months left on the contract.

Just glad it is finally done so I'll stop moaning.

Why does it matter when they sign Taurus? Genuine question. Is there some benefit from signing earlier? If so to who? I’m not saying there isn’t, I just can’t work out what.

If Trent were to sign next week for example. Would it really matter that it wasn’t 2 years ago?

17 Apr 2025 13:54:40
I don’t think he negotiated the contracts isn’t that Julian Ward’s dept? Eds?

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

17 Apr 2025 14:22:24
Taurus, why?

Why does it matter other than to placate your own sense of nervousness and entitlement? If they signed in two months what difference would it have made?

The club knew what was happening, the manager did (as he admitted) and the players did.

The club, as usual, got it right. Do you not suspect it may all have been done a while ago but they didn’t want to leave Trent as the only one unsigned? Do you suspect that might have been difficult for him as we try and win a league?

As a club we cannot put a gun to a players head and make them sign a contract. And who really knows what happens during the negotiation phase. Player and agent will have one stance and version, the club will have another.

I’m sorry but all this well done Hughes rubbish is ridiculous it’s Liverpool football club that was the key factor here not Dick Hughes.

If we could have the contracts signed earlier and bring certainty to the club, of course you would take it.

I don't suspect anything regarding when it was done because there is no point. That is all heresay with no proof so it is not even worth mentioning.

18 Apr 2025 09:24:38
What certainty?
How would that manifest? Do you mean you’d feel a little better? If the players, the board and the management team all knew (which they did) why would it materially matter other than to placate you?
What would this sense of certainty do and how has this uncertainty affected us?

Are you just saying football things that don’t have actual meaning?

18 Apr 2025 11:27:45
@Taurus, I think what you really mean is you would have been less stressed if they’d re-signed 12 - 18 months ago. I would too. Truth is though the players wanted to make sure they got what they thought they deserved whilst the club could really not do anything whilst the players didn’t engage.

The great thing to come out of it is that we have two world class players - still playing at the top of their game - have committed to the club for another two years and it also goes to show that the negotiation process worked despite the one or two slight murmurs from social media where a couple of people were getting anxious about the club not doing anything (which turns out to be wrong) .
