One word. Money! We can’t offer the wages arsenal can for a player like him. Arsenal is rapidly becoming a tourist destination, rather than a club, the London football experience for city tourists and financially it’s really working for them. We can and do offer top wages for absolutely key positions and we are competitive, but for players like him we have an fsr ceiling that is lower than arsenal. From my perspective that’s not necessarily a problem, because we have a good recruitment strategy, it’s just a reality of the modern game. I mean look at Brighton as an example of outperforming psr. Now the interesting thing is after this season we will make more profit than arsenal and can therefore probably sign 95% of players in the world. So for me, zubimendi wasn’t a player who the club were prepared to go all in on. In which case I trust the club.

Brighton have been sitting in mid table for years I’ve never understood all the praise they get. Forest, Newcastle and Villa have been much better than them. Spending money in football isn’t a bad thing.

Zubimendi had a bit of a stinker of a season this year, from media reports throughout the year it does seem like he agreed to stay for 1 year and pretty much regretted his decision instantly. I would imagine our interest moved on once Grav started playing consistently. If memory serves me right, hadn’t Zubimendi agreed to join Arsenal a few seasons back only to change his mind similar to how he did with us?
Anyways I’m happy for Arsenal to buy all the midfielders they want, the bridesmaids are not our competition next year.
