Talks at an 'advanced' stage between Brentford and the club re. Kelleher being reported tonight - not sure of the transfer fee involved but have heard links repeatedly over the last week now.

Reported as £12.5m potentially rising to £18m with add ons.

01 Jun 2025 17:08:07
Here we go. 18 million. Bargain for Brentford and ddcent funds for us. Really really wish him well. he's played his part in recent silverware.

01 Jun 2025 17:16:45
I think we have been shafted a bit there. Kelleher is worth more than 12.5m for sure.

01 Jun 2025 17:24:46
Some kind of a handshake deal here with Brentford? Would have imagined competition for his signature. Trying to keep the relationship for other signings after Carvalho and Sepp last year?

01 Jun 2025 17:24:54
That seems on the very low side for me ramsdale went for more at least twice and he is awful. And we just got £10m for Trent for only with a month before we got nothing so feels like we should have got maybe a little more.

01 Jun 2025 17:28:49
Depends if there is a Brentford player coming the other way, might explain the fee.

01 Jun 2025 17:30:37
25 plus easily.

01 Jun 2025 17:33:49
Crikey, we complain when we don’t sell players (“we’re ruining his career etc”) and we complain when we do!

Kelleher has 1 year left of his contract and has started 25 league games for us (albeit 40+ in other comps) .

I think £12.5m rising to £18m is pretty decent for a keeper who hasn’t been No 1.

01 Jun 2025 17:35:43
I'd have thought so too, Nevada, but rather offload him for £12.5m than keep him for ages and end up letting him leave on a free after about 14 loan moves, like Phillips.

01 Jun 2025 17:28:19
He only had 1 year left on his contract, so £18m with add ons feels fair. I see the usual suspect accounts on Twitter are trying to drive the narrative we’ve been robbed, but I’d be interested to know if a backup GK with 1 year left on their deal has ever been sold for more than £18m inclusive.

01 Jun 2025 17:48:38
I’d heard that Spurs and Chelsea were both interested and likely to offer more, but would you really want to sell those two a very good keeper when we may face them in the champions league? I certainly wouldnt. Take the money from Brentford as it doesn’t benefit a direct rival for the league or champions league and with a year left on his contract too, I’d say it’s a decent deal taking into account everything.

01 Jun 2025 17:53:33
Wonder is it a straight one off payment deal so suits us with cash in hand so to speak.

01 Jun 2025 17:53:34
Seems he has gone went to Brenrford with Brentfords keeper going to leverkusen. Sweetened the pot for the wirtz deal i would imagine.

Good luck to Kelleher, seems a nice lad and with good character.

01 Jun 2025 17:55:58
Can Mbueno play anywhere other than LW?

01 Jun 2025 18:06:03
Yes RW lol.

01 Jun 2025 18:09:19
Could see us going for Collins later in the window to be fair. He’d be a great replacement for Gomez or Quansah if they leave.

01 Jun 2025 18:20:02
Maybe it's all part of the Wirtz deal. Leverkusen wanted Flekken cheap, so we helped them out by helping Brentford with a similarish fee replacement. This keeping both clubs sweet.

I mean. There's Wirtz ideas out there.

01 Jun 2025 18:21:18
Would you say he’s quick enough Adam?

When I’ve watched him (infrequently) I see him as a younger Nat Phillips - emergency only but doesn’t have the recovery pace to be confident in him the way we play?

01 Jun 2025 18:28:31
I can see the logic @somethingred better to sell for that now than lose him for free in a year.

Just a bit of a sting to get 12.5m for a player who pretty much everyone agrees has been a key player most of the season.

As for Viktor point about better than going to a rival - unless it's arsenal or city it's not really relevant as they're going to be the only rivals for the league next year.

01 Jun 2025 18:33:04
Collins looks shoddy any time I've seen him play, MK, albeit that's mostly for Ireland who are a mess.

01 Jun 2025 18:34:52
From what I have heard online, the fee could be to help with the Wirtz deal as even with a year left does seem on the low side for a top class player.

01 Jun 2025 18:47:59
SA Kelleher is a great penalty saver, and a very competent goalkeeper. I don’t think he is “top class” though, otherwise he would have displaced Ali as our no 1. Who is top class.

01 Jun 2025 18:49:28
£12.5M is way too low. It should have been £18m plus add ons up to 25m easy. Yes in the last year of his contract, but we replace him with a keeper that will still be number 2 at twice thr price!

Baz.

Hello Vango,

Can Mbeumo play anywhere other than LW? How about a Goalkeeper!

Seriously, the powerful build on him is similar to Ozzy and Lukaku means can he play through the middle as a number 9 if Arne thinks so, in his early days he was a centre forward and use to be a twin striking partner for Toney (amber gambler! )

Mbeumo is 26 on 07 August 2025,last EPL season: 20 premier goals,7 assists, played a full season bar one game 37 premier apps, they are pretty good numbers are they not!

Although if Arne was interested you would think he was part of the current Kelleher deal, but seems not? or is that why Kelleher is only valued at 18 mill, with Mbeumo coming to Arne-Field at a reduced fee with 12 months on his contract and an option for a further 12 months, Brentford will want an auction for top dollar as other EPL clubs are interested.

Mamardashvili was circa £30 million, so in effect ye getting a potential world class keeper and a back up keeper for £12 mill which is also very good business in today's market.

01 Jun 2025 19:15:25
Sorry, meant LW! And yes id take Mbueno in a heart beat if he can play centrally.

01 Jun 2025 19:22:44
Collins is an average player not up to standards of LFC he is better staying where he is at Brentford.

01 Jun 2025 18:58:33
Collins is quicker than Quansah tbh, and would be a more reliable back up than Gomez who can’t stay fit. Need a squad nowadays and you’re not getting much better than Collins to come sit on the bench for 80% of the season.

Ideally you want your 4th choice CB to be an academy player, but I don’t think any of ours are good enough even for cup games. Chambers has developed more into a LB/ LWB and he was the only one I had high hopes for. Nallo is not good enough in my opinion, and Lucky seems more of a RB to me.

Personally I’d keep Quansah but Slot doesn’t fancy him so sell why his stock is high-ish. PSR has changed the landscape and it’s now good business to shift academy players early if they’re not going to be key players.

01 Jun 2025 18:58:54
I feel like based on the reported fees being banded around for our surplus players, we might not get the best return for them. 12.5m for kelleher is a steal, he’s easily a £20-30m player in today’s inflated market. I really hope this is as part of the Wirtz deal, but then I feel we are overpaying for him as well, they rejected our first bid which should have been more than enough to get him.

Hopefully we get better deals for the likes of Nunez, jota, chiesa and Elliot, who are our other surplus assets, otherwise the financial outlay we are planning might not work to our favour from a business stand point, there will probably be a few more transferless windows coming. Let’s see how it all plays out.

01 Jun 2025 19:43:33
Looks like the moaners have been sitting on their hands while the good transfer news was coming in, and they're out in force now.

Fee is reasonably low because Kellacher is in his last year, has never been a number one in his career, and at the moment is at least a level below top quality goalies. To be honest, nearly £20m for a goalie in his last year, who everyone and his dog knew was out the door, seems like good business to me.

01 Jun 2025 20:08:45
I really don’t get the “Kelleher is worth £20-£30m” bollox!

He’s a number 2!

We paid less than £30m for a really bright prospect who is better than Kelleher and has a much higher bar, and has played over 200 first team games, 127 of which have been in a top 5 league.

Why on earth do people think Kelleher is worth the same as that?

This is nothing against Kelleher, he is the worlds best No 2, but he has been a No 2 for a long, long time.

01 Jun 2025 20:24:38
We might have got more for Kelleher last summer. We probably would have.
Nevada says the fee 'stings' because he's been 'key player most of the season'. Why does it sting? We kept a key player and won the League!
And we are getting more for Kelleher than Brentford are for Flekken. The business we have done or doing with Brentford and Leverkusen hasn't done us any harm, so far.
I remember a lot of posters questioning why we signed a keeper last summer, too. Maybe 'the clowns' behind the scenes were not sitting on their hands and doing business before we knew what was needed.

01 Jun 2025 20:27:06
I'm with MK Scouser, A top quality centre back is required for competition to VVD and Konate and cover for injuries, loss of form etc, Konate who has the potential power of another Bosman Transfer at his fingertips, this needs to addressed ASAP this Summer Window, otherwise he goes for buttons next year, I don't think players have the same enthusiasm for the club in their last year? and their performances through the coming season could highlight this, so why not take that away from the player with a more than capable centre half signing this summer, to show Ibou we will get along fine without you in the end come what may.

The way football tactics are evolving the days of the tough, rugged, no prisoners centre half are being replaced by a less physical strength centre half, but more quicker and lighter to cover the ground and make interceptions, start moves (Hansen-esque, Lawrenson) etc.

Will be interesting to see if Enrique now wants Konate this Summer for a nominal fee, or for nowt next year ( as we only got circa 10 mill for TAA because RM want to play him in the FIFA world club) if PSG don't come calling then Ibou will say RM are his dream club, as he will say also if PSG call this window! somehow I don't think RM or PSG will call at all, as they think big thundering, no nonsense, no prisoners centre backs are a thing of the past now! which last night proved most vividly!

Thanks for the recommendation above Rugby Parker, but my Holster is hanging up in the garden shed now together with my boy scouts badge?

01 Jun 2025 20:41:52
I think one of the reasons why a higher fee might have been expected was his HG status and how it's assumed that inflates their transfer fee.

01 Jun 2025 21:22:19
Come nots, it’s summer time - get yourselves out in the fresh air - it’ll improve your health and perhaps clear the mind.

01 Jun 2025 21:26:57
He is in the last year of his contract. What do we do…. hold out for more and risk losing him for free next summer if he isn’t sold? Let him sit next to Mamardashvili on the bench next year, just in case?
Everyone moans when we price players out of a move. Everyone moans when we let players go for free!

01 Jun 2025 23:01:52
Maybe we have negotiated a sell on clause. Could see that working as Brentford are a selling club and if he performs well over the next couple of seasons he could end up moving on for more money.
