The rumours resurfacing about us after Inacio again. Any truth in these? A lot better than romero rumour.
15 Jun 2025 10:53:46
Hope so, solid left footed defender. Young, big and we've been keeping tabs on him for almost 3 seasons now.
15 Jun 2025 11:08:37
Is he really good enough for us? Hasn't impressed me much when I've watched he'd him and he has always played in a back 3.
I acctually think Romero is a good defender, his injury record isn't though.
15 Jun 2025 11:49:06
I have never seen Romero play without doing something idiotic. I'd rather give Ibou half a mill a week than go anywhere near Romero.
15 Jun 2025 12:25:04
I really can’t see us paying that much for a defender who plays in VVDs position.
I expect Virg to be a starter through all of next season so why would a £40m+ defender be happy to warm the bench most of the season before a WC?
More likely to get a RCBif Konate goes.
15 Jun 2025 12:50:48
Erm! whose advice of Romero would you choose? his fellow World Cup Winner Alexis Mac Allister and current EPL Champion or a random poster's views!
"You cannot be Serious" half a million pounds wages a week for a central defender! when the man next to him is the current Captain of the Club, and on a lot less than half a million a week!
15 Jun 2025 13:42:22
No. im not serious 007,would have thought that was fairly obvious. Was just trying to get the idea of how much i would be against this transfer across. And as for McAllister, anyone who plays in front of Virgil every 3 or 4 days yet thinks Romero is the best centreback in the world probably isn't the greatest football mind on the planet. I don't care hiw many WC's he's won he is a poor poor player.
15 Jun 2025 14:31:08
2 red cards and 26 yellows in 100 PL appearances for Spurs. Not as bad as I thought, but still not good.
15 Jun 2025 15:04:36
I’d love to understand when a player is linked to Liverpool do people look at think:
Does he fit what we do?
Who misses out?
Has he been successful at his current club?
Does he fit the Liverpool profile?
Is this an area we need to strengthen?
Could he upset the dynamic of the side?
Does he fit the “no Di (kheads” policy?
Are there red flags?
Or is it simply a case of “new player = good/ exciting” because Romero is a walking bag of red flags to me.
15 Jun 2025 15:34:24
I don’t think it matters what fans think. In the grand scheme of things it will have zero effect on what Hughes and Slot choose to do.
15 Jun 2025 15:49:43
For me you have your solid first teamers, a few fringe players and the rest has to come from your academy.
First teamers have to rotate. Supplemented by finger players.
That’s why you need the likes of Curtis, he’ll be ok as a fringe player as well as getting some starts.
15 Jun 2025 15:51:18
No, I’m just genuinely intrigued by how people think about these things.
Right now we have the best team in the league and adding a player means a league winner loses games. Who is good enough to take games off league winners.
Frimpong, Kerkez and Maria all replace players leaving/ left. Wirtz is that one off you can’t ignore.
Anyone else is a hard business case.
15 Jun 2025 16:20:39
? Mariaaaaa you’ve got to see her,
Go insane and out of your mind ?.
15 Jun 2025 16:52:43
Everywhere at the top level you have a core of 17 first teamers.
Then there is some reliable cover.
Then you have academy players.
It’s the Sith rule of two ideally. A master in the role and an apprentice who wants the role.
Slot has been clear he tends to play his GK, CB and Six as often as possible in the big games (Premier League and CL) the rest of the team (bar Mo) is rotatable. Curt tended to get CL games over Mac this year.
That’s why the 36 man uber squads don’t work. Having too many great players not playing makes a dressing room potentially toxic.
It’s why Endo is a managers dream.
15 Jun 2025 16:59:47
Inácio is really quick and this unfortunately for a lot of quick players makes them heavily reliant on speed and other aspects of their game falter because speed bails them out.
Pass for me.
15 Jun 2025 18:16:57
Ron, I can count on one hand how many finger players we have.
If we brought Firmino back would he be Fingerbobs?
15 Jun 2025 21:04:58
Interestingly Konate has made 82 total prem apps since signing for the 21/ 22 (11,18,22,31 apps) season divided by the total number of prem games in those four seasons gives him 53% prem games over the last four seasons.
Romero has made 100 apps over those four seasons (22,27,33,18 apps) which is 65% prem games over 4 seasons.
The above facts/ figures indicate Romero has a better premier appearances record than Konate, Romero has also scored 7 prem goals to Konates solitary prem league goal.
@Florian Musiala, Alexis has one world cup, and one EPL winners medal and a Carabou winners medal, and i'm not being serious how many do you have? and obviously i'm not preferring Konate/ VVD over Romero! but all LFC posters know someone who does?
15 Jun 2025 22:34:09
Konate hasn’t always been first choice 007 as we had Matip.
It’s a bit disingenuous to compare the appearances of a player who was bought as a young up and coming CB and has worked his way into the team to an experienced CB who has been first choice since he signed.
Romero is Macca’s mate so he’s going to say he’s amazing. He’s biased. The rest of us who actually look as his ability know that he’s an absolute liability.
15 Jun 2025 23:18:02
Isn't Van de Ven the better of the 2 Spurs CBs?
If the staff could get his hamstrings to come good for his crazy speed, then I'd take him.
With all that being said, I trust the transfer staff more with the decision than any of us. they haven't got a lot wrong over the last few years.
15 Jun 2025 23:36:42
Exactly Robbo, Matip and Ibou were competing with each other to play with Virg the 1st coupla seasons and Matip, like Ibou was a far better player than Romero.
15 Jun 2025 23:49:29
Damn no real mention of ISAK he is the one i want, then Gyokeres. , Follwed by Alvarez, Ohmisen, martinez last.
16 Jun 2025 01:50:45
Christ, I'm getting old. Took me way too long to figure out who Maria is.
16 Jun 2025 05:35:32
Van de Ven is a sprinter, not a footballer. He's fast and he sprints a lot but that's mostly because he is way out of position and needs to get back.
Maybe Romero looks poor because he has to cover for such a poor defender next to him. Or it's also possible that the system Ange played put too much pressure on the defence. Not saying that Romero is a great defender though, since I rarely watch Spurs play. Just putting out other possible alternative explanations for his poor plays.
16 Jun 2025 08:40:54
Romero is a better centre back than Inacio.
I think premier league watching fans over-rate European players over their own sometimes.
If you don’t watch someone closely every week you don’t see then make any mistakes or do-no-wrong.
You just see a reputation as the next best thing, some YouTube highlight reels, and online fan fare that they’re going to be great.
Most posters on here watching Portuguese league football week in week out? Almost definitely not.
