Isak is and has been for a while our number 1 transfer target this summer. Nothing has changed in this matter, the deal has always been a complex one to make. We have a couple of alternatives, unless someone makes a move for them the focus is solely on Isak. Tentative talks have taken place in regards to price, this is not seen as an issue by the higher ups.
17 Jun 2025 14:52:16
Thanks Thefields, appreciate the update.
Have you anything on Newcastle's pursuit of Pedro, or their interest in Jota?
17 Jun 2025 14:54:13
So if the club had an either/ or between him and Wirtz it would be Isak?
Paff.
Bunkum.
17 Jun 2025 15:02:33
150m gamble with the potential for injury, but if managed well, we will be winning plenty of games with high margins.
17 Jun 2025 15:28:57
All for it if the price is around £120m. North of £130m is ridiculous and we should walk away. The best solution perhaps would be something like £75-85m and Quansah or Jota type deal.
17 Jun 2025 15:32:38
Why0Why, where do you get that from?
We weren't expecting Wirtz to be available this summer, is what I'm taking from the recent events, and even if he was, we expected him to go to Bayern. But the stars aligned and here we are.
That doesn't detract from the fact that we have been interested in Isak for a while - just wish we had gone for him instead of Darwin the in the first place!
17 Jun 2025 15:43:43
How do you know we didn’t expect Wirtz to be available?
Also, I’ve made no statement, I’ve asked a question.
17 Jun 2025 16:10:37
I'm assuming your question was rhetorical as you followed up with "Paff Bunkum"
I don't know we didn't expect Wirtz to be available, but basing it on reports like from The Athletic. Not gospel by any means, but maybe more so that the other clickbait sites.
17 Jun 2025 16:11:53
Thanks for the update TheFields. when can I start stocking up on Kleenex and Lube!? (Asking for a friend - not sure if that sounds worse. )
17 Jun 2025 16:17:41
And so when Isak and Wirtz were available at the same time (which they both currently are as neither has been signed) do you think Isak is first choice over Wirtz considering we are negotiating with Wirtz, have agreed a fee with his club and have a medical next - whilst there is nothing with Isak?
I’d suggest, given all the evidence, that Wirtz looks like the first choice priority signing or don’t I understand numbers?
17 Jun 2025 16:25:32
Honestly I think we can sit back and enjoy the fireworks. We’ve gone out got the best young attacking midfielder in Europe (who I thought was nailed on for City), the best right back we could get, the best left back we could get and it seems we’re after Isak. This after extracting the best part of £10m (when you factor in saved wages) for a rat who we were going to get eff all for, actually nice to see we’re building on success rather than sitting back. Just chill and watch it all unfold, Hughes has won me over with his actions this summer. I can see us signing Isak btw which would be a real sign of intent.
17 Jun 2025 16:29:33
I read 1 post saying Isak is the number 1, and that the mkt is not fantastic for strikers. That Liverpool is happy to stay the way we are, and at best maybe go for stop gap like Watkins if we can't get Isak.
It sounds very sound, pardon the pun.
I think Watkins was the only one mentioned.
Does any of the other eds or anybody itk can suggest some potential stop gaps?
I think Watkins will do a good job for us, but if he is too expensive, then might as well take a punt on the younger potentials.
17 Jun 2025 16:36:07
Looks like Lewis Steele from the Mirror just read this thread. ?.
17 Jun 2025 16:52:09
Nothing to do with numbers, W0W, just to do with priorities and timings, imo.
Last year, I was really looking forward to a UK holiday this year, however, a few weeks ago I got a really cheap deal on a holiday in Spain. Doesn't mean I don't want to go to the UK resort, but I had to jump on the Spain offer or someone else would have got it.
We seem to have been keen on Isak for a while, but Wirtz, popped up available. We couldn't leave him and wait to see if we got Isak as he was going to move. Isak seems to be happy waiting for us or staying at Newcastle.
All a fair bit of supposition and guesswork, but all seems perfectly plausible.
17 Jun 2025 16:53:11
@Wayne not itk but even the stop gap options aren't great. there's Watkins, then you have Mateta and Wissa both with 1 year left on their contracts I believe. Callum Wilson out of contract at Newcastle if we fancy another hospital-bed-addict.
Then around Europe, PSG are keen to offload Goncalo Ramos, and Juve trying to offload Vlasovic. Osimhen could be great if he lowers the wage demands.
Also been mentioned here that Jhon Duran could be an option on loan for the year.
Honestly would say it's more likely that Liverpool run Diaz / Jota up front again than go for any of those as stop-gaps though.
Or else there's probably and Endo-style stop gap that they'll pull out of their arse for £15mil who will score some big goals next season and become Isak's deputy next season, going down as a cult hero in the vein of Origi.
17 Jun 2025 17:20:38
Paff bunkum isn’t that the Aussie tennis player. c'mon mate even if you don’t believe it to be true paff bunkum?
17 Jun 2025 17:47:58
Hello 2shoes,
Where have you been Lube? "Shaving Gel" is the "IN" thing now!
More Tea Vicar!
17 Jun 2025 18:00:37
Divok. They have started talks to Pedro, they are confident a deal will get done for him. As for Jota, there is interest but nothing more at the moment.
2shoes, he needs to break out the original source mint. That will help with the excitement.
17 Jun 2025 18:06:00
Why, Wirtz is an oppoturnistic signing. Yes we had interest in him but it was always assumed he would go to Bayern. Isak was the plan before that because our priority was and is a striker. Hence why I've said previously, the money from the Wirtz deal is seperate to the actually transfer budget. The plan for Isak was to raise the funds and allow Newcastle to sort a replacement out whilst addressing other areas. So even tho Wirtz wasnt a planned signing, we still could go out and do both. There is no either or.
17 Jun 2025 18:19:11
Sigh.
I asked if the WAS and either/ or would Isak be no.1 priority. Never said there had been an either/ or
Comprehension was taught at schools once.
17 Jun 2025 18:31:58
No way we can afford Isak after the money we have spent on Wirtz.
17 Jun 2025 18:44:57
Thanks for the info Thefields, Always appreciated.
17 Jun 2025 18:51:37
I think you comprehension is lacking mate.
How can one be a priority over the other when they play different positions?
I read the OP as saying Isak has always been our no1 striker target. Not overall no1 target?
17 Jun 2025 18:56:20
That's the problem, Why; it was only taught once.
17 Jun 2025 18:59:12
I really don't think going for Isak is a smart move. Don't get me wrong, great player, but personally if Alvarez is an option, even if it would be next year I think that would be better. Massive risk IMO.
17 Jun 2025 19:36:03
I’ve just said that Westwood think he’s a good player but is he able to press and track back as he would be expected to do.
17 Jun 2025 20:38:15
@Whyowhy, If you're old enough to appreciate good grammar you're old enough to know that when you are in a hole you need to stop digging.
17 Jun 2025 19:16:43
Ed1 did say the other day that werefunds available for Wirtz and Isak.
TheFields is saying the same thing now
OMG. starting to get even more excited right now. if that's even possible after Wirtz
Frimpong, Kerkez, Wirtz, Isak
Could there be a better window?
I doubt it!
17 Jun 2025 19:22:39
Why or should I call you Professor now?
Again it wouldn't of been either or if it was a choice between the both of them. So my answer is still the same.
17 Jun 2025 20:52:50
@fields. Do you know which players Liverpool want to sell to raise money for Isak and how much they want? Or any info about our outgoings really? Thanks for keeping us updated.
17 Jun 2025 20:55:06
@Zed, nice analogy about the holidays - very well put ?
@WOW, I’m still not sure what the point of your question is or what it actually means - to be fair I was off the day we ‘did’ comprehension.
Isak appears to be the club’s priority for the CF position.
Wirtz appears to be, from the club’s perspective, an opportunistic signing that was more of a ‘wishlist’ than an actual ‘priority’.
So in a sense it’s like trying to compare apples and oranges.
That said, you could ask the same question if it was a case of Isak or Frimpong, where you’d actually be comparing l’like for like’ in terms of priorities for the respective positions.
Either way, from was has been suggested by a number of people on here and other media, who appear to have both oars in the water, the question may well be moot as we seem to have the capacity to bring in our preferred option for priority at CF and our preferred wishlist option for MF.
17 Jun 2025 21:20:52
Jude, nothing concrete. All I know is Jaros, Gomez, Robertson, Tsimikas, Quansah, Elliot, Endo, Morton, Doak, Jota, Nunez, Chiesa and Diaz all have interest, they are available if they want to leave and their price is met.
17 Jun 2025 22:27:32
@WOW,
in a previous post of yours today you could not even spell the name of LFCs biggest medals (22) haul ever (Phil) Neale you spelled not once but numerous times?
Neal is on his birth certificate, despite poster red ted telling you that you had spelt Neale incorrectly, ever heard of "pot kettle black"?
