And so it begins, this is going to be the best Mexican transfer stand off in history.

Darwin Nunez is ready to join Napoli this summer but the Italian club are unwilling to met Liverpool's £70m valuation of the 26-year-old Uruguay striker.

Hughes is too good for the Napoli president.

Agree5 Disagree0

If Napoli are not willing to pay the 70m, stop talking to them and look for a club who will be willing to pay.

28 Jun 2025 22:38:50
Hughes playing a dangerous game in my opinion. Not that many clubs interested in Nuñez that he would want to go to (Spain/ Italy) . we shouldn't price him so high that Napoli just end up looking elsewhere.

I understand negotiations are like this but Nuñez is a player we really need to get rid of (checked out, very low in pecking order, need those funds fro new CF) . we can't get stuck with him for another season.

If we go by common knowledge in footballing circles, Aurelio de Laurentiis, owner of the Napoli football club, is one of the most unpleasant and difficult owners to deal with. So Hughes definitely does not have an easy walk in the park, ahead of him.

29 Jun 2025 00:02:53
You must be joking Greg! Napoli can do one, thinking they can get him for 40 million €. I would rather keep him for that insulting offer.

29 Jun 2025 00:40:52
I mean, would any of us pay £70 million for Darwin?

29 Jun 2025 01:57:11
Not worth £70m I think a bid closer to £50m would be accepted personally.

29 Jun 2025 04:40:37
Napoli are also looking seriously at Lorenzo Lucca - younger, cheaper, Italian, SetieA-seasoned - as their CF. I doubt very much there is any standoff over Nunez.

29 Jun 2025 05:21:28
Nobody in their right mind would pay £70m for Nunez.

29 Jun 2025 06:52:01
Personally I don't think £40M is too wide of the mark considering last seasons output, age and length or contract against potential. There's no way we would pay £70M for him now, why should we expect others to?

29 Jun 2025 07:31:50
Nunez has just won the premier league, played in champions league may not of scored the goals expected of him but he has the benefit of not many strikers around and all the top clubs needing one. Find a manager who will build a team around him find his strengths and play to them. Worth every penny penny of 60-70 million in today’s market.

29 Jun 2025 07:51:53
And if all else fails, that offer of 550k a week in Sausi may be enough to sway Darwin's desire.

29 Jun 2025 08:15:39
Nunez would score at least 25 goals in Italy. He needs to move.

29 Jun 2025 08:20:46
Trying to sell a Striker that scored 5 goals on the basis he apparently causes chaos on the football pitch is clearly a tough pitch.

29 Jun 2025 08:30:35
Not even an EPL team would pay 70m for him and we expect a Seria A team to pay that amount. He's 50m max.

29 Jun 2025 08:41:59
Richarlison has been sold for £50m to Everton and £60m to Spurs.

By that barometer Darwin is worth £70m. Uruguay’s number 9, a Premier League Champion, Champions League regular, very high ceiling.

It hasn’t worked out for him at Liverpool but someone will be getting a very good player who will bang in lots of goals if they can get him firing.

{Ed077's Note - you guys are taking the mickey right? He's hardly shown himself to be worth even half of that, specially when you consider the fact that for 99.9℅ of clubs 70m is probably beyond their finances

29 Jun 2025 08:52:55
This one could be dependent on them selling Osimhen so could tumble on for a while.

29 Jun 2025 09:17:50
If Hughes does get £70 million for Darwin then he deserves a statue. There’s a happy medium in there somewhere.

29 Jun 2025 09:17:57
If you guys have convinced yourself that he is a £70m player, then we should be keeping him. Be he isn't. Give your heads a wobble. £45-50m is bite their hands off territory.

29 Jun 2025 09:30:17
40 million € is like 35 million £. that's what we paid for Andy Carroll. Napoli can run along. 50 million £ is fair considering we rejected 70 million € in January.

29 Jun 2025 09:30:37
@Jimmyboy, you never said how many years it would take him to score 25 goals.

29 Jun 2025 09:34:08
Djimi Traore won the champions league. We should’ve been looking at 80m for him!

Nurse, the screens!

29 Jun 2025 10:00:17
If we’re dead honest, Nunez has not done well enough in England to recoup the fee we paid. We gambled on his potential and it didn’t work out. Now he’s in his mid-20’s teams will only pay for the player he actually is, because there’s very little scope for improvement in a player his age, and so reliant on pace. He’s worth €40-50m tops. You can squeeze an extra 20-30% out of a Saudi club but no team in Europe is going to pay top dollar for him after such a bad season.

29 Jun 2025 10:03:27
Does anyone really think Hughes and Lfc expect to get £70m for him? But like Napoli reportedly offered an equally unrealistic €40m for Darwin we also have to play the game. If Darwin ends up there they will have ended up meeting somewhere in the middle.

29 Jun 2025 10:37:13
You’d take £50m any day of the week for Nunez. If you can sell Elliott and a few more of the fringe players you can raise over £100m which could then be invested in a new striker. Looks like the Quansah money will be reinvested in Guehi which is an improvement, if not my preferred choice of CB.

29 Jun 2025 11:25:54
£50m would be ideal - can’t ever really judge by what other players went for as kravatskhelia went for like £60 odd million and is a top shelf player.

Nunez is out of form, not wanted and ideally want him off wage bill to make room for another number 9. Isn’t exactly a bidding war for him, but wish him the best and, not a high bar, isn’t pulling the stunts gnacho and Rashford are.

29 Jun 2025 11:30:35
Maybe controversial opinion but I think he’d do well at United. he's not too dissimilar to Gyokeres who Amorim had at Sporting and I feel like Nunez would fit in with the completely erratic style of play and bonkers players- Martinez, Fernandez etc. ed002 did also say United wanted him before klopp got him to come to us.

29 Jun 2025 12:31:33
I’d take £40-45 million pounds for Darwin, with perhaps 5mill add one……. never getting £70m for him. Just get him gone, hardly clubs bashing the door down for him. It’s alright saying I’d rather keep him than sell him cheap but he just won’t improve anymore and he downed tools, get shut.

29 Jun 2025 15:28:42
I don’t think Nunez has done enough to evidence he is £85m striker…. still at his age, I think he holds some market value and we should be looking for around £50 obviously I hope he goes for more ?.

29 Jun 2025 18:29:34
We paid £65 or similar plus add ons, for Nunez and his confidence looks shot, remember the Tottenham game when he was clean through and made a mess of a square ball rather than burying it? By all accounts wasnt Richarlison a bit of a cult hero at Everton when Tottenham came in for him, crazy money from the outside in but I wouldn't have thought everton wanted rid of him in the same way that Nunez seems to have run his race.
