Anyone got any insight into the Guehi rumours? a lot from the media and on social that talks have already begun and we should expect things to move fast. Last I read was that he'd need confirmation that he'd be a starter. I know quansah will be gone, does this now tell us Konate could be on his way out giving Guehi what he wants. Is this transfer actually going to happen? Ta.

Guehi rumour has been around for about a month. I don't think he is coming into to replace Konate per se. Both will be used. Konate for those games were you need a powerhouse defender and Guehi for those were we need a front footed defender to break the lines etc. A good option to have, especially for the price quoted.

Pretty reliable reports from Sami Mokbel (BBC) that talks are set to take place in the next 24 hours.
Valued by Palace at around £40-45mil although Liverpool will seek to push that down of course. Apparently Guehi himself is open to the move although won’t want to spend the season as third choice (I personally think he can push Konate out of the team) .
Not sure if you’ve already read this but thought I’d share. As for personal insights I have absolutely none! Although I like him as a player and think he would be a good addition.

I think you know about as much as everyone else. It sounds like he wants us and we want him. The comment about wanting guaranteed starts might just be a red herring as if that was the case, we would walk away from any deal.
Quansah has his medical on Monday. After he pens the deal with Leverkusen, I assume we will talk to Palace aiming to get Guehi for as close to the Quansah fee as possible.
Caveat - these are all assumptions of logic!

I'm hearing Guehi isn't willing to hand in a transfer request out of respect to Palace, therefore Palaces 40-45m asking price will not be met by Liverpool, Also Liverpool not willing to wait until next summer to get him on a free as we require centre backs now, we will be moving on. Not sure who we turn our attention to now?
29 Jun 2025 13:44:10
Surely Palace would prefer if he handed in a transfer request?

Hope Hardy is right.
We should give him a miss.

I did read about Gomez being of interest to Leeds and West Ham maybe one to take with a pinch of salt but at least 2 CB's would be needed regardless due to his injury record and Quansah leaving. Having said that Endo has played there as has Gravenburch so who knows. I think Guehi could be a good signing especially if Konate has eyes on leaving next summer.

Sami - I must say I’m really surprised that PL winning manager Slot doesn’t listen to your expert wisdom.
29 Jun 2025 14:37:20
Guehi is going to want assurances about playing time with the World Cup coming soon. Otherwise I think he will stay as a first teamer at Palace while competing in the Europa Cup.
Also, im no finance expert but $45m seems a lot for a player in the final year of his contract.
Certainly an upgrade on Quansah but not as good as an on-form Konate imo.

I worked with Mokbel and he’s a great reporter. I would back what he says.
29 Jun 2025 15:24:17
There’s no way Guehi is pushing Konate for a starting place, as Konate is a far better defender and it’s not even close. I’m not arsed by the stuff about Guehi being able to “break the lines”, that’s just guff. If a centre back isn’t very good at defending and is easily dominated by attacking players, then they’re not really much use as a starter. Guehi as a 3rd or 4th choice and as cover for left back and defensive midfield is fine, but he’s nowhere near good enough to start as a centre back for a team hoping to win the title because he simply isn’t very good at the fundamental part of being a centre back.
29 Jun 2025 15:26:28
You cannot give players assurances over playing time, a starting place is earned through hard work in training. It is up for Guehi to back himself and prove that he should be starting. I think either way there will be plenty of opportunities to play. If he decides not to sign because of concerns about playing time it shows that he is probably not at the right mentality for this club.
29 Jun 2025 15:37:56
Liverpool will play 60 games plus next next season Guehi will play I’m certain of that, particularly when Konate is a frequent sick note.
29 Jun 2025 15:41:57
I doubt any player worth his salt signing for mega clubs like Lfc, City, Bayern, Real or Barcelona expects assurances of game time. They know tthey can't be given it. Just earn your place in the team on merit. With the way the prices of centrehalfs have gone since we bought Virg £45m is very reasonable imo.

It’s a strange one.
Trent started more or less every game and wasn’t an England starter and Jones seemed to nail a starting England place in recent fixtures whilst not being a full time starter for Liverpool.
29 Jun 2025 17:33:48
Didn't we give Witz some assurances?
29 Jun 2025 17:54:39
Wasn't Maguire starting center half for England despite being dropped by Ten Hag?
Anyway, I think Guehi is very good with the ball and carrying the ball out of defense, he is also very good in one on one situations. He is quite a bit below average in the air, but honestly if the price as reported is a bit higher than what we're getting for Quansah, then it seems like excellent value for his experience, age and ability. Obviously he can't be considered in any way a replacement for Ibou, but as a 3rd choice center back who can play when needed and can perhaps give Virgil a rest in cup games, I think he would be a good choice.
{Ed025's Note - but he is part of the National team PB and i would imagine to fulfill his international aspirations he will not want to be a back up player mate..

It's sounds like we or rather Slot did Rigbsy, it was well reported that it was those conversations that helped sway his decision. From the bits I've seen in the signing day interviews and what JF has said he seems a level headed, hard working, winning mentally type who wouldn't take it for granted regardless.
JK23- the problem Trent had was that Southgate wanted a player better at defending for how he set the team up whereas Liverpool set up to his strengths, Jones will play less when everyone is fit and available for England.
29 Jun 2025 20:07:31
@Rigsby, I think we assured Wirtz that Nunez would be leaving.
29 Jun 2025 20:29:45
I agree, Ernest, and if we want Guehi, I reckon we'll be giving him some assurances too. I can't see that being a Quansah replacement either.
