Elliot favours a move to RBL over Spurs.

Nunez will move next week.

McConnell, Chiesa, Doak all have their suitors.

The Guehi deal appears to have collapsed, as Newcastle have indicated they will pay the £40m Palace want.

Leoni is of interest and has been all summer, talk of him not wanting to leave Italy is false. We have been talking about him all summer and I think Davy may just get his wish.

Agree7 Disagree0

I get that he's in the last year of his contract, and we're normally very good at getting a good price for these players, but £40mil doesn't sound that unreasonable for a starting England international, 25yrs old whos the captain of his club.
Surely some arrangement can be made.

Buyback for Elliott maybe?

Thank goodness the Guehi deal has collapsed. We need to be looking at players who can either potentially replace Virgil or potentially be better than Konate.

I hope he has broad shoulders for “YOUNG LAD FROM PARMA” to fit on the back his shirt!

Love reading all the updates and people’s opinions. Thank you all for taking the time to share.

Newcastle's next knock-back incoming.

06 Aug 2025 13:05:13
Really hope we keep Chiesa if I’m honest, think he could have a big impact next season with us.

Leoni I don’t know much about but has a lot of suitors so trust the recruitment team on that one, is Elliot with a buy back option?

And who has interest in Doak? And is it for loan or buy?

06 Aug 2025 13:08:25
Couldn't Guehi say he doesn't want to go to Newcastle (like so many before him) and tell Palace he'll see out his contract. Maybe they'll change their price when they see it's nothing next year. He'll have plenty of suitors if free next summer.

Unbelievable news on YLFP

As I understand it Fields, FIFA and UEFA heads have held emergency meetings on YLFP as while his floor is Baresi level, his ceiling is breaking football whereby goalies are no longer required. This is a serious worry giving any top level suitor an ability to play an extra outfield attacker while not playing any goalie and conceding goals and impossibility with the brick wall that is YLFP.

I understand when Liverpool's interest was made known, they were approached by the footballing bodies to agree to the established rules of playing goalies and to prove that in the window.

Bodies are now satisfied with Liverpool buying a lot of goalies (purely for satisfying the bodies) that this transfer to go ahead.

Expect him to go on to become Liverpool's greatest ever defender.

It's mad how some people just write off Guehi as not good enough at 40mil yet happy to spunk 20/ 30mil on an unknown quantity in Leoni. Not knocking the young lad and hopefully we've done our research but defending in the prem and Italy is very different too as is the style Liverpool play in general so no guarantees. I actually like Guehi, am I convinced by him, can't say I 100% am but at least it's a guy who knows the league, clearly has leadership skills and at a good age for a centre half. There's not a bundle of top class centre halves out there to be fair. Hopefully Guehi stands firm and just rides out his contract and we get him for free next year. Safe move for him as guaranteed game time ahead of the world cup too. Same people probably wrote off Robertson, Wijnaldum etc. Because they played for teams lower down the league.

Brilliant job, thefields. Tallies with everything going on here.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have both a buyback and a sell on Babbity.

Alternatives to Guehi are being looked at, up to now the only name I've heard is Konsa. Not sure if that one will happen tho.

06 Aug 2025 12:26:15
Thefields, I read that we are looking at £50m for Elliot or £40m if we get a buyback clause. Does that sound about right?

06 Aug 2025 12:27:59
Still say Guehi at the price we'd get him for would be a great piece of business.

Our history with Italian players isn't very confidence inspiring.

06 Aug 2025 13:30:46
McGoveb agreed. For me guehi is less mistake prone than bambi. Personally I'd still pay 40m for him now, vvd is ageing and got likely 2 years left, where can you get a club captain and a regular international starter for a to European country for 40m? Not saying he is near vvd the last vvd we had was Hansen but IMO guehi is good enough with another decent CB too firm an amazing long term partnership over the next 5/ 7 years post vvd.

06 Aug 2025 13:34:35
Shame if we don’t get Guehi, I know he is not the best, but as a 3rd choice cb he is a very good option. He knows the league would hopefully settle right in.

06 Aug 2025 14:24:13
Davy ??.

Zed, £50m is the price for Elliot with or without sell on or buyback clauses.

He could McGov.

06 Aug 2025 15:08:17
From Guehi's point of view, and if we believe that Konate has indeed signed a new contract, he could face a season of being a rotation option with us, which may be tricky for him in world cup year, or probably being first choice with Newcastle.

Of course he will win less with Newcastle, but he may prioritise game time.

I think his most likely step would be to see out his contract. That way, we may still be interested in him, VVD will only have 1 more year of his contract left (unless he plays well enough to earn another one) and Konate's contract may have a buy out clause that is activated next summer.

Lots of moving parts.

06 Aug 2025 15:34:14
Well if guehi is only 40m and we won’t pay it, how much would we say Joe Gomez is worth? 20m?

06 Aug 2025 16:08:14
Slightly different situation Magico, Gomez still has 2 years of contract left.
