As a few of us have said previously, Geuhi will be next through the door. We want to pay 25m they want 40m. We will meet somewhere in the middle.
I really think he is the missing link. I actually want to see us move to a back 3. Virg in the middle, Geuhi left , Konate right. All of preseason the wingbacks have been exposed out of position. Both Konate and Geuhi are excellent on cover or One on One

Interesting. I can see the value in playing Guehi at LCB in a three alongside Ibou and Virg with a box midfield of Gravy-Macca-Szobo-Wirtz. However, the signings of Kerkez and Frimpong this summer indicate differently. Perhaps horses for courses - although that is not easy to implement with so many player coming in and going out.
It does seem like we want the Guehi fee to start with a 3.

I can't see Slot making such a drastic change, with a few days before the season starts. Also, playing essentially a back 5 would mean we would have to move away from a 3 man central midfield, so one of Szobo, Grav, Macca, for instance, would have to play elsewhere or be on the bench. The defensive unit need to work on their defensive shape, etc, but I don't see a change of formation taking place. They just have to get more in tune with each other, and the midfield line need to be more compact, especially in transition.

I would love to see us play with a back 3 and wingbacks. Dunno what it is about it but I love the attacking options. Not sure Slot has ever played that way but he's if nothing else he is adaptable.
What do you think? A 3-5-3 or 3-4-3? I would worry about the latter as our midfield lacks a destroyer which as we know Slot doesn't tend to play with either?

Slot isn't known for playing three at the back but I wouldn't be shocked to see it happen especially when you look at the players we have brought in.
I still expect us to play four- or should that be two ?- at the back though.

From what I can see Rigsby, our Full backs are usually in the same positions as wing backs in teams that play them.
Obviously Trent came inside a lot, but he was still in a midfield position rather than in a traditional full back position. Just the way I see it.

No chance we'll go to a 3. We'd need to buy 2-3 more CBs for that to happen and it also means 1 less attacking player on the pitch.
It was clear when we signed Kerkez and Frimpong that we'd be too attacking and need an extra body helping. That would be Grav to drop in when 1 of the FBs bomb on (or both) .
It's going to be a frustrating season of having all the ball but drawing/ losing games we should win unless Slot gets the players to communicate and work on having enough bodies back to cover the counter and balls over the top.

@westwood I would love to play 3,5,3 but think the refs would cotton on quickly with the extra man on the pitch. I would play a 3,4,2, 1 in attack. Szoboszlai dropping to the bench or rotating. Ekitike/ Isak up top, with Wirtz and Salah cutting in from behind. Gives the option of Grav dropping back when countered to make a 4, keeping the wingbacks high up the pitch or Guehi and Konate stepping across to cover giving the overload in attack. It even allows the option of putting the likes of gakpo/ Ekitike at wingback when needing a goal as they won’t have to do much defensively.
As Virg tires/ ages it allows him to be the general. I’m not suggesting this be the default option (3at the back) but it certainly makes sense in games where teams love to counter ala palace.

Rome, to be fair to markp, we had only lost 1 game by the time we sealed the league. We did lose 3 more, but it was only after the league had been put to bed, so we had taken our eye of the ball (or left the eyes in Ibiza! )

3 cbs is not negative. The wing backs are defacto wingers. Problem is that you would have isak, ekitike, salah, wirtz, sobo, grav, macca and gakpo et al vying for 5 spots.

We've been building up possession with a 3 most of pre season.
Kerkez has tucked in whilst Frimping has been given freedom to push further ahead. When Kerkez goes too, one if the 6s have dropped in to creat a 3.
A formation is only a starting point, and you bend and flex it to counteract what the opposition are doing.
