Ed01, would it be possible that VVD could go in summer? I would like him to. I think whatever is going on, he is right bang in the middle of it. His performances all season have been lazy, arrogant and just simply not good enough. Not to mention he is on a massive salary and really old and really not very good anymore.
Any news on him going? I really think it should be the first bit of business we do this summer. Been a great player for us, until he got injured against Everton. Got back to somewhere near his best a few seasons ago. But he has to go in my opinion
{Ed001's Note - I have not heard of any interest in him moving for a fee, nor that we are looking to move him on.}

Vvd is still one of the best but he ain't capt material n he ain't getting much protection from our mid.
10 May 2026 08:13:46
Thanks Ed. I've had a bit of time to calm down after yesterday but I am still really angry. It just can't go on like this
10 May 2026 08:37:08
On commentary yesterday, they said of any team in top 5 leagues in Europe, Vvd has played the most minutes. Brave achievement at 34-35 years old, imo Vvd least of our problems.
10 May 2026 09:02:12
Be brave, boys, rip the plaster off, let Vvd go, he's not going to get any better at this age.
(Not to say he hasn't been legendary).
10 May 2026 09:04:45
Do you not think we should be seeing more from him, in terms of leadership and even what he says post match? I'm sick of hearing that they are all hurting, then 10 minutes later posting a picture with their Louis Vuitton man bag.
10 May 2026 09:07:40
I am constantly being told that Slot is doing a fantastic job and the club are desperate to keep him, so I am just trying to find someone else to blame... starting with our captain. I don't think people can say he has been good this season.
10 May 2026 09:30:56
Who's telling you that Slot is doing a fantastic job & that they are willing to keep him because I can tell you it's all false & even Stevie Wonder can see that....
10 May 2026 09:43:55
We already need to bring in quite a few players this summer. Plus a new manager.
Replacing VVD would be low down on the priority list for me. He's got another year at the top for me.
10 May 2026 10:04:28
Some people just aren't natural leaders. VVD's character is, mostly, laid back and this natural attitude doesn't sit well when the captain needs to do the unpopular stuff, like getting into his team.
Hendo, Millie had / have it in practical terms - getting stuck into people when the need arises, and Mo does too, in a different way, by setting an example.
There's not really anybody in the current team like that, although I think Dom and Curtis could grow into the role if chosen as captain.
It also has to be remembered that Jurgen was the most messianic manager we've had since Shanks. He 'got' Liverpool, the place and its history and the people and their sense of humour. He had the air of the 'working class' about him - he was a rage manager and also a fan. Slot is a different personality - not his fault - but, in short, he doesn't 'get' it. You either do or you don't - Klopp did and it'll always stay with him. Slot doesn't and he never will.
10 May 2026 10:43:54
So, according to some folks on here this summer, we should get rid of Alisson and Virgil on top of losing Mo and Robbo? What's the sense of that?
10 May 2026 11:05:04
Alisson is one of my favourite all time LFC players. Would never want him to go. VVD has been great mostly, but is casual and sticks out like a sore thumb in a struggling team. Bit like Berbatov and Ozil.
Full of talent but just look casual. I want VVD to improve and be a better leader. I want him to be the so called Aura VVD but this version of him? I think it is completely fine that fans debate this.
10 May 2026 11:20:26
For Virgil to be aura VVD, he needs help. He's 35. He can't be consistently exposed in this way as though he were 28. Like any other player on the pitch, we need to create the conditions for him to do what he does best more, and not have to run around desperately trying to put out fires created by our shape and passive approach out of possession.
We can debate this all you want, but in a year where we are already losing two of our leaders and where there is even talk of Ali leaving, you want to make selling our captain a priority? I mean, I really don't see the sense in that. I'm sorry.

New manager (get fitness to expected levels and hard work is rewarded, whilst allowing youth to be integrated).
2 pacey wingers (lw/rw) that can actually beat a man with skill and not just the ball in behind.
Another experienced centre half to add to VVD, Konate. Gomez to leave. Should not expect Leoni and Jaquet to be the saviours, they are both still very young and need to develop.
Michael Kayode at right back, the lad is perfect for us. Absolute athlete with great attitude, and doesn’t ever stop running with great positional sense.
If we are to lose Endo, Mac Allister and Jones, 2 quality more defensive minded midfielders. My pick would be Angelo Stiller. Left footer with a more natural defensive mindset, but will still venture forward if opportunity arises.
Happy with Kerkez at left back, but we need someone to give the lad a rest.
Whether that’s Tsimikas or another.
And finally we need another focal point. I would personally go for a false 9 type player if we do seek another. Gakpo isn’t the answer for me. So Salah, Chiesa and Gakpo to leave, with a left and right winger and false 9 to replace Gakpo. Allowing Danns and Wright the opportunity to go play football, maybe one stays to be 3rd choice number 9.
Not naive, I know this probably can’t all be done in one summer, but as a fan this is what I think the team needs going forward.
Another one is the keeper. I’m a big fan of Bart Verbruggen and his ability with his feet for a keeper. Can improve on other aspects of his keeping and I’m sure he will in time as he gets older, but he is brilliant with his distribution. For me he would be the Ali replacement.
That’s definitely 2 summers worth. ??
10 May 2026 11:37:11
Patrik, do you not think that the passive approach is down to him? I do.
Yesterday we started high up the pitch on the front foot and were well on top. Cucurella got in behind once and VVD dropped 15 yards, which meant we couldn't press anymore and Chelsea took control. At one point they went in behind because Virgil was 3 yards deeper than everyone else, playing everyone onside. That's happened regularly this season.
How many times do we see him making clearances inside our 6 yard box? It happens every game, because he drops so deep he's on top of the keeper.
The defensive line for their goal was a joke. We were so close to the keeper, it didn't give him a chance.
There's no bravery at the back. It's reactive panic rather than holding a line and front foot defending, allowing us to control games.
I love Virgil, he's a legend, but he's been a huge part of our problem this season. Not sure if it's him or the tactics, but something needs to change.
10 May 2026 11:45:26
Utter crap. I'm sick of these internet making speculative comments about players who have been imperious for years, both on and off the pitch, are suddenly a problem.
10 May 2026 12:00:44
I think VVD is still a top defender which I think will be noticeable with a stable partner and better tactics.
If, as it looks, Alisson, Salah and Robertson are all leaving, only a Chelsea minded DOF who wants all kids would get rid of VVD too.
I'm with Frode on this one. VVD is a legend and we need him more than ever next season for, hopefully, a new manager.
10 May 2026 12:06:06
I was a bit angry at time of post and did follow it up with a post saying I had a bit of time to calm down. Look, bottom line is, everyone in the team is responsible for this mess. And don't be using words like "imperious", it just feeds his already massive ego and justifies these types of performances.
Klopp turned average players into world beaters.
Slot turning world class players into donkeys, and been given the most desired players in their positions last summer and turned them all into donkeys too. Not to mention our legacy players are all wanting to leave now too. I include Trent in that list.
10 May 2026 12:20:52
He has to stay, we need a real rb that can stay fit, then possibly a top keeper if Ali goes. We can't be looking to replace Virg, too. His experience will be vital to helping our young cbs develop.
10 May 2026 12:43:49
About to go 35 this summer, and has played more minutes than any other player in Europe. Admittedly, while it hasn't been his best season, he still tops the charts in numerous metrics this season, all while babysitting a liability next to him. Get rid of VVD? Give your head a wobble. Integral to us for the next few seasons.
10 May 2026 12:55:18
What VVD needs, and most of the team, is a better man manager. When Leoni recovers, hopefully he is good enough, so the new man can rest VVD from time to time.
10 May 2026 13:15:37
Vvd is not what he was and it's showing, his leadership and play is nowhere near what it was, he seems to blame everyone else for mistakes but takes no responsibility for his own.
10 May 2026 14:18:14
If Netherlands make it to the quarter final at the World Cup this season, Virgil will have played more than 7000 minutes this season - a career record. He turns 35 this summer.
We should really be halving his minutes to prolong his career into his late-30s like Thiago Silva rather than squeezing every bit of life left out of him.
10 May 2026 15:11:31
I do think VVD needs a bit more help at CB now. That's just natural, Konate and others haven't been doing that.
10 May 2026 15:33:38
We roll the ball out inside the box because that's the way Slot wants to play. Walking football and no movement. Without Wirtz, who is the only one who ever looks for the ball, we stagnate. Then we blame Wirtz for his performances. Vvd may have lost a yard, but he is still an outstanding player who is being let down by the system. The players aren't fit, so we cannot press for more than 20 minutes in a game.
I am sick of our better players not being picked in the best positions. We might as well bin our academy because Slot doesn't believe in it. A shadow of ourselves. I can see us losing Rio. I cannot see us spending huge amounts of money again this season under Slot. If he starts next season, he'll be sacked by Xmas, by then our season will be over.
10 May 2026 15:52:52
If we're not gonna spend big money, why would we lose Rio? He'd get plenty of chances.
11 May 2026 11:22:32
Vvd is fine. What's not fine is making him play 90 mins every game. Hasn't he played the most minutes out of every player in the top 5 leagues all competitions or something?
