To be fair, didn't Edwards do a similar thing with Klopp? I remember reading about him preparing a 50+ page paper for FSG about why Klopp was the best fit for Liverpool, after interviewing those around him. If he's doing this with Alonso, then it should be a good sign. Provided that the Spanish tabloids are not spewing their usual nonsense, of course. ?

Why is it so unbelievable that a club would contact a former managers' clubs to ask if there were any red flags or major concerns that led to them leaving or dismissal?
I imagine Leverkusen may have been contacted as well, but that won't be as big news.

Also just a thought, maybe they contacted RM about any compensation payments they still had to pay Alonso, or anything in his termination contract that they needed to be aware of.
