There is a lot of pride that needs to be swallowed by a crucial member of the recruitment system.
This is a massive sticking point, the sell to get Alonso is a simple transaction.
Talks resumed due to Alonso and his agent.
It's a huge push from their side to conclude a deal.
They were told Slot was gone a long while ago.
Ta.
{Ed025's Note - nice one Carra..
12 May 2026 20:40:56
Thanks, Carra, fingers crossed it gets sorted.
12 May 2026 20:42:18
Thanks, Carra, no room for pride and egos the way the club is heading.
Smartest men in the game apparently though, eh.
12 May 2026 20:42:26
Hi Carra, thanks for the info as usual.
Would you say it's looking likely?
12 May 2026 20:43:52
Carra, sorry for asking, in your opinion, what do you think happens? Always appreciate the updates, much thanks.
12 May 2026 20:44:35
Thanks for the update, Carra.
12 May 2026 20:49:45
Thanks, Carra. Alonso is the perfect man to take us forward and to get the squad together again. Come on LFC and whoever needs to swallow their pride. There are millions of LFC fans that want this. YNWA.
12 May 2026 20:50:20
Really appreciate your info on the matter, Carra.
I do hope they sort it out for the good of the club.
12 May 2026 20:50:40
You have to wonder, since when were Liverpool this stubborn?
It's not as if they're in the Champions League final and in first place for the league.
Act now.
12 May 2026 20:56:05
Thanks, Carra.
That member of the recruitment team needs to be relieved of their duties then.
This club was built on humility and people sacrificing personal glory for the collective good. Not individual pride.
12 May 2026 20:56:40
Thanks a million, Carra, mate. As SlotOut says, what's your gut feeling?
12 May 2026 21:04:51
Carra, who is swallowed by a crucial member of the recruitment system. Hughes or Edwards or someone else?
There has been loads of stuff pushed out again about Slot staying, but after last Saturday I just can't see how they can keep him.
I am truly worried we don't make Champions League next season because I can see a win in us.
12 May 2026 21:06:16
Not sure if this is a dumb question, but is the spanner in the works Richard Hughes?
12 May 2026 21:06:44
Spot on, Carra. Cheers, bud.
12 May 2026 21:07:43
Edwards is becoming a bigger hinderance than he is a help nowadays.
Then again, when you hire a narcissistic egomaniac, I suppose that's what you know you're getting involved with?
This situation requires the FSG major shareholders to step in & override the little smart arse.
12 May 2026 21:09:33
Cheers, Carra.
I think the whole front office could do with a slice of humble pie. Never too late to start.
12 May 2026 21:23:22
2 more games, Reds.
12 May 2026 21:27:36
Brilliant news, thanks, Carra.
12 May 2026 21:29:45
Imagine being so prideful you can't admit what a trainwreck this season has been.
This just says to me we'll stick with Slot so someone can stand by their man.
12 May 2026 21:31:12
Nice one, Carra.
Let's hope it's getting sealed.
12 May 2026 21:32:51
To above.
There is no reason why Alonso shouldn't be concluded other than personal pride on a certain senior member of our side.
It's extremely silly how a certain person is behaving about it all *cough Michael Edwards*.
There is a feeling that those above the above may get involved, but this is the issue.
That could result in said senior member(s) leaving the club.
This is the worst run I've seen us under the FSG stewardship. I may lose all my connective arteries to the club soon over this.
Ta.
12 May 2026 21:42:16
Cheers again, Carra. Think Mike Gordon or Henry has to get involved.
12 May 2026 21:54:22
Tbh, it's not all that surprising that it's Edwards throwing his toys around.
Let's just hope he puts on his big boy pants and gets over it.
Guy wants to run a club on his own, but lets his emotions get the best of him.
Yikes.
12 May 2026 21:57:19
This is kind of what I was worried about when the itk guys here are saying one thing, but a couple of journos were saying another.
It led me to think that the club aren't united, and that members of the club hierarchy are pulling in different directions and leaking stuff that suits them.
I hope it all gets sorted.
12 May 2026 22:02:42
They all got carried away with a league win, which occurred due to many factors unconnected to Slot, Edwards and Hughes.
Absolute power corrupted Edwards, as it always tends to do - this is human nature.
There are few like Klopp who can rise above personal ambition and the need to be right, and this is where Edwards falls down. He's been given the keys to the castle and so far failed to prove that he is as good as the hype suggests.
Jurgen and Ian were the 75% of everything that came before.
Isak, Frimpong, Kerkez, Fede, not getting Guehi over 5m and not getting Semenyo to replace Diaz, cause they didn't want to block Rio all look far from convincing decisions.
Edwards' rep is on the line. He knows it, as do plenty of others.
12 May 2026 22:26:45
I thought it was Edwards that wanted Alonso in the first place. He needs to grow a pair & suck it up.
12 May 2026 22:32:54
Edwards and Hughes only got one year contract left. FSG should be smart enough to step in and let Alonso be our manager, who will be the start of a new era. Even if FSG are planning to sell in the near future, putting Alonso as manager should also be the safest way to maintain our selling value and control fans' emotion, imo.
12 May 2026 22:41:20
With the multi club model abandoned, why is there the need for Edwards?
12 May 2026 22:41:53
Thanks Carra
Don't expect a reply but here goes...
What's up with Edwards that he is not wanting to admit he's wrong about Slot despite agreeing to sack him earlier in the season?
I assume he can't admit Slot is a failure and wants to hide behind the "end of season review", so that Slot and LFC part ways under "mutual consent" so they all save face.
I just don't get why he wants rid of Slot but won't admit he's wrong and go for Alonso who was number one pre Slot. It's all very weird behaviour from so called clever high powered people...
12 May 2026 22:49:43
Retire the slotmachine -.
I did think about that for a while too...... My initial thought was the same as yours, but if that's the case, it won't be that difficult for him to shallow, just do some pr like ''Alonso was always the first choice'' etc.
I believe it will be more about something behind the scene, for example, hired Alonso will weaken his power or he's said to transfer, etc.
12 May 2026 22:58:41
Nice one, Carra. As ever, any snippets of info from you are greatly appreciated.
It sounds like we're in a complete mess, almost of Man U proportions. Hopefully they can wipe the slate clean and get rid of Hughes, Edwards and Slot for the good of the club.
12 May 2026 23:06:29
Thanks for the update, Carra, we all really appreciate it.
12 May 2026 23:49:37
Thanks, Carra. You the man. Appreciate your updates.
13 May 2026 00:37:05
Unbelievable ignorance on here. FatSpanishWaiter saying Juergen and Ian 75% of what came before. Really? That's Jurgen who wanted Gotze instead of Salah, Oblak instead of Alison, and thankfully club backed Edwards. And when Jurgen wanted Darwin they backed him. Who did Edwards want... Isak, before he went to Newcastle. I don't pretend to be in the know, but I go to Anfield every home game and am not just an armchair fan.
If Alonso hadn't played for us, would he be a favourite for the job? Name a manager other than Pep in the modern era who has been a success going back to a club he played for? Slot deserves to see out the season, but I would have Iraola before Alonso. He preferred Real to us, remember.
13 May 2026 01:07:48
I always wonder whether those who doubt Alonso are just trying to be clever. It's nothing to do with him greeting an ex Liverpool player.
He won the Bundesliga unbeaten with Leverkusen and had a 70% win percentage with Real.
I couldn't care less whether he preferred Real to us. As if Arne Slot wouldn't jump on a plane to manage Real Madrid.
Him having an affinity with us is our good fortune. Don't you think Chelsea and Utd wish he wanted them?
13 May 2026 01:35:21
JW Henry has to get involved. We need clear and decisive leadership. Should have got Guehi & Semenyo over the line. Slot sacked in December, and Alonso sorted. We're not a top English club. We're top club in world football. We can't have Mick and Dick running the club. They have to leave as well.
13 May 2026 03:13:20
Kluge, Klopp, according to the myth, wanted Brandt instead of Salah, not Gotze, but he completely rubbished those rumours in a recent interview. Both Klopp and former Head GK Coach Achterberg rubbished the rumours that Oblak was first choice. He had discussed it with Klopp and told him the only one worth buying was Ali.
Don't be so quick to insinuate that anyone's an "armchair fan", not everyone is lucky enough to live in the UK, afford the cost of attending games, or have the health to do so.
Players who've successfully returned as managers: Paisley, Dalglish, Cruyff, Ancelotti, Zidane, Enrique, and Conte, to name a few. I'm sure there's more.
Yes, Alonso would still be favourite for the job irrespective of history. What he did with Leverkusen is by far the most impressive achievement of any manager currently available.
So I'd pipe down a little calling people ignorant when you're so familiar with the subject yourself.
13 May 2026 03:52:17
Nothing to do with being clever. It's an opinion, and a different one at that. I just don't think his enthusiasm matches that of some fans, but what would I know? We need to be careful that it's not a romantic signing, as I have niggling doubts of his full managerial credentials.
Regardless, if what we are led to believe about Edwards, etc. is true, then it could be suggested that the best would struggle. Fortunately, Klopp had the personality to deal with them head-on, but maybe it's all been exposed now.
13 May 2026 05:58:13
Sememyo and Guehi all over again...
One thing that these suits are bloody good at, is kicking the can down the street...
13 May 2026 06:05:49
Much appreciated, Carra, and all those posting, to be honest.
Really strange times at the club that remind me in a lot of ways of Moores and Parry signing players for Roy Evans back in the day.
Perhaps some ego is involved.
I would hope there are still some in and around the club that have a voice.
But who knows. I'm clutching at straws a bit, but some clarity that's been provided helps. Feels like you are going mad when you can see this not working and something not giving.
13 May 2026 06:26:27
Kluge Alonso did not pick Madrid over us. He wanted to stay where he was for one more season and to take them into the Champions League.
If we had Klopp for one more season, then it would have been a choice, but us and Bayern both need a manager, and he has said he would only leave for the three clubs, but he stayed one more season.
Without knowing what was in Alonso's head, people are just assuming why he did not come. I would say that is unbelievable, ignorant, and arrogant.
13 May 2026 06:54:05
Thanks Carra.
Hopefully, we can get a result on Friday that confirms CL, and then all could be announced before the final home match, so the whole mood can lift, and we can look forward to next season.
Surely the club are aware of the negativity surrounding Slot and the risks of keeping him.
So over this season!
13 May 2026 07:25:51
Cheers, Carra. 2 more matches and that's it done. Slot goes, Alonso in.
13 May 2026 07:58:30
Well Carra, if it's the worst run that you have seen us, then FSG can also see this. They'll make the necessary changes, guaranteed. This arsing about only pushes it to a complete conclusion all round. It'll be all overhauled quite quickly from next week on, I would reckon.
