Conversation with an ex red today, before i begin it's an opinion and he didn't give inside information as he doesn't know in all honesty.

He's of the opinion Walcott has wanted a central role for a long time and could make the perfect striker for LFC, fast, technically gifted more rounded than sterling at this stage and probably able to play alongside Sturridge.

If Rodgers stays and looks to continue with 3 at the back another CB could be looked at as he's not convinced by Lovren.

Typical Rodgers, spends 20 mil on a defender he's not convinced with. Did the same with sakho albeit only 18mil.

Nobody is convinced by Rodgers he should be the one going.

2.) 23 May 2015 07:24:31
Not for me thanks.
Walcott would be decent out wide (if he can stay fit) but he's not good enough to play central for an entire season

3.) 23 May 2015 07:47:24
use sinclair, really. save the money and buy a better striker. walcott is just as injury prone as sturridge is, this does not make any sense.

4.) 23 May 2015 08:40:53
Walcott is awful. 25 games or so in the last 2 years? Poor record, if we sign him then someone needs sacking.

5.) 23 May 2015 08:46:30
I would take personally take Walcott + 20-30mln for Sterling provided
1) we also get Ings to be no.2/3 striker and
2) there's not a top class striker like Vietto/Higuan or similar available in this window

Best case he proves himself in a Sturridge/Walcott frontline with Ings/Origi as backup strikers. would frighten the heck out of me with Coutinho/Llalana positioned just behind them to fee their runs! Worst case is Walcott reverts to being a wide forward and we have 20mln to spend when a genuinely world class no.9 does become available

Better than spending 20-30mln on an average striker in this window if nothing else is out there. I think we've seen from Balo, Lambert and Borini what buying a second tier striker does for the team

6.) 23 May 2015 09:49:06
Great. £20m wasted. Try Lloyd Jones or Ilori and use money elsewhere. We need a top striker, no more average make do players please.

7.) 23 May 2015 12:47:00
So that's another 25m then, for another CB. Incompetence!

8.) 23 May 2015 13:49:57
Sounds like another summer of shocking transfer business
60 million on defenders in two years and still wants another
If he's not convinced by Lovren why buy him it's his coaching that's caused his form.
AW won't play Walcot up top because he's not Good enough to play there. enter Brenda Rodgers

9.) 23 May 2015 14:14:52
He's making approaches for Martinez of sociedad, it's pretty well documented. Decent enough player although as previously mentioned illori and Jones deserve a crack.
In terms of striker it's mainly a case of who can we attract, personally for me its got to be son and vietto/dyabla. That's what you call striking fear in to the opposition

10.) 23 May 2015 15:26:09
Those of you advocating for us signing Walcott, a few facts. He has missed nearly 75% of the last two years because of injury, he is turning 27 so that's not going to get better any time soon. He has never scored much more than 10 in even his best season and his end product is poor. Do you guys seriously think he would be a good signing in this light? Some of yous need your heads testing!

11.) 24 May 2015 07:59:09
Walcott is about as 'technically gifted' as Jon Walters, the worst premier league player ever seen

Jerome sinclair must be going on loan, as he's not on the tour bus.

1.) 11 Jul 2015 13:07:15
Hes off to Burnley on loan.

Was never going to get the game time this year for us

Much rather he gets a preseason with Sean and burnley do he has more chance of games thete.

Eds do expect Lallana and Can to play big roles this season.

Seems everyone is getting caught up in the transfer world and forget there's already bags of talent on hand, just mis-managed or picking up niggles.

Provided fit these 2 guys are surly some of the first names on the team list, not first on the bench.

65

{Ed001's Note - I expect them to be regulars, yes.}

1.) 18 Jun 2015 14:27:48
Provided they are played in their most effective roles, they will succeed

2.) 18 Jun 2015 17:26:50
What are their most effective roles then Redohio?

3.) 18 Jun 2015 23:15:11
The roles they were bought for as in CM for Can and Wide for Lallana except of course you haven't seen BR play Can everywhere but midfield and Lallana at wingback.

Stoke away.

Brendan Rodgers will be judged extremely early on.

65

1.) 17 Jun 2015 14:28:20
Judged by whom?

On this forum 95% have already judged him based on last season and indulge in ritual mocking on a daily basis. He has already failed next season in their eyes and nothing he does or tries to achieve with the team will be good enough for them.

2.) 18 Jun 2015 00:20:49
He hasn't failed next season. The owners have.

Wanted to get peoples opinions on Charlie Austin.

Considering his premier league goal scoring record compared to a falcao or Ballotelli its very impressive.

I've not seen a lot of the guy and wondered if he could play with an ings/sturridge upfront.

These days i think its hard to buy goals especially without champions league and looking through previous posts Benteke seems like the most possible at double the price Austin is.

Personally i'd go for Austin over benteke and don't see players like Tevez coming any were near lfc.

Opinion: a younger version of Ricky Lambert.
Decent ball skills, decent movement, too slow to be a top class striker.
Wouldn't bother spending the money on him, he will not make a massive difference to us IMO.

2.) 15 Jun 2015 10:11:46
He is going to West Ham.

3.) 15 Jun 2015 16:42:50
That is what keeping BR and FSG`s poor decision gets you, Ron. You must be proud

4.) 15 Jun 2015 17:34:24
Comparing anybody's goal scoring record to Falcao and Balotellis is quite impressive.

28 May 2015 00:41:47
Eds,

Not for 1 minute do i feel he became awful overnight, I also have a little soft spot for him, unsure why but there you go.

Do you feel Mario has been a wee bit of a victim in terms of his LFC career. Due to the style of play, the guy is talented. Granted he's extremely hard work and really doesn't help himself.

Just feel he should of been better in a sense.

Mis-managed? Or own fault?

Thank you in advance.

65

{Ed001's Note - no he is just not a good player. He was extremely over rated because he has a great personality and has gone through a lot, so he was given a pass for being an extremely average player. His character is great, when he is at any other club, but he is someone who should be kept as far away from your own as possible.}

1.) 28 May 2015 13:39:04
I don't think we should sell him without a new manager in place. At least give him 6 months under a new manager.

Under Brendan, well, we are struggling at CB. Maybe he can play there?

The striker saga / suspense is killing me.

Be a suprise to buy a player over 27 for 20 million +

Haha Ruddock

Im all for a new partnership not involving Skertal and as he's the most senior and longest servant as a CB he is in theory the big dog in the yard. It would be hard for anyone to come in and tell Skertal to cover there, do that, push up etc.
Thats his job and he doesn't do it.

I think its obvious that Benteke is the target alternative would be Rondon maybe. Other than that i don't see anyone else coming in really.

Maybe a left back

Depends how it finishes, i'd expect 2/3 first team types to come in yet.

Id be happy with,
Clyne
Benteke
Kovacic

Granted not my personal first choices but think they would all add something to the first 11 if used right, which will be a suprise if they were.
