Hi Ed’s, I was wondering if you saw the article in the echo that a top financial expert from a Liverpool university reckons we can spend a maximum of £237m in transfers this window without it effecting the financial fair play situation.

From what you Ed’s say (in that we can’t afford anything) without selling first how can we buy anyone?

I’m of the view that FSG are looking like they are neglecting our squad in terms of depth and quality of players to work with klopp.

Before you say “we aren’t going through it all again” how can a financial expert in his field come to this decision and your accounts on what’s happening at our club be so different?

Cheers for reading.

Alwaysforgetpasswords1

{Ed002's Note - he is not saying Liverpool have that money. They don’t.

1.) 07 Jan 2022 17:47:39
I'm sure we could borrow the £237m and spend it on players if we really wanted to.

But we'd be screwed for the next few years as a result of servicing the debt. So I think it's best the club doesn't do that. Or that we fans listen to that top financial expert.

2.) 07 Jan 2022 18:20:19
Yeah he's just saying under FFP rules we have that much wiggle room basically right? Big difference between that and the amount of money available to spend.

3.) 07 Jan 2022 18:29:13
I get where your coming from though OP and aid here your frustrations mate, it’s hard to take other teams strengthening and adding to there squads whilst we don’t have a bean. Our business model has a lot to Say about our finances I’m afraid as well as the C.V.. We clearly need reinforcements but we are going to have to go with what we have left and perhaps there will be some changes in the summer. Providing we sell players first of course.

4.) 07 Jan 2022 18:41:53
Didn’t we sell to buy prior to CV.

Or were we always going to spend big on Vvd, Allison and Fab regardless even if we did keep Coutinho.

5.) 07 Jan 2022 18:49:17
How can we continue winning honours and making more money through winning or going far in competitions when we haven’t got money to strengthen the team when needed?

I’m sure other clubs use there wiggle room to strengthen the squad.

Maybe it’s the owners not willing to use the wiggle room.

6.) 07 Jan 2022 18:07:03
I read that article but he seemed to be confusing FFP with Premier League profit and sustainability. He also said Everton need £35m in to comply. Going to be interesting to see how much teams have lost when all accounts are published.

7.) 07 Jan 2022 19:06:50
We don't have a thin squad. The reason other teams strengthen whilst it appears like we don't is because their squads suck and have holes whereas we don't in comparison.

8.) 07 Jan 2022 19:12:45
Faith do you include City and Chelsea in that.

9.) 07 Jan 2022 19:15:46
Faith. Not saying we have a thin squad. I’m saying we need investment and a freshness adding to the squad. City’s main target is Harland. Chelsea are shears signing players. Ed’s has explained they have a better business model than we do and we need to get things right in areas of the business (it is a business after all) to get able to compete with new signings. We seem to be the only club that has to sell and raise major amounts of money to invest. I’ve just read spuds are after Traore and Villa are after Bissouma now, our main 2 targets. We can’t just sleep whilst others move but that’s exactly what is happening and what has been happening over the last few years. CV has hit us hard. We need to recover quickly IMO.

{Ed002's Note - No that is not correct. The past two season has seen Chelsea fund Lukaku, Havertz, Werner, Chilwell, Ziyech and Mendy through player sales.}

10.)

11.) 07 Jan 2022 19:35:30
Well to be fair we don't have many players to sell.

12.) 07 Jan 2022 19:48:27
I get that Ed, I did say they have a better business model mate and selling players is part of that model.

13.) 07 Jan 2022 22:25:16
JK, Chelsea yes, City not really. They obviously have less gaps than most.

14.) 07 Jan 2022 22:25:54
Daretodream - we will freshen up, invest or whatever we call it. We have loads of players and can't just keep adding players.

15.) 07 Jan 2022 22:27:19
Traore and bissouma are guys I wouldn't mind we signed, but are also guys in positions we aren't exactly lacking in numbers. So we'd have to ship some away to bring them in.

16.) 08 Jan 2022 07:46:17
What I presume the op means is fsg could put in £237m of there money and we still be ok for ffp. We obviously can't just keep adding players, we need to sell some 1st to make space. Surely it's not unreasonable after success klopp has had and the growth of lfc in his time, for fsg to give him £100m + whatever sales we have for a transfer fund?

{Ed002's Note - FSG cannot put £237M in to the club.}

17.) 08 Jan 2022 09:00:06
I did try putting up the link guys it’s on empire of the kop as well if you want to read it.

Ed’s just telling us we are screwed really and we don’t have any sellable assets unless we want to demonise the team even more.

We are stuck in limbo a bit by the sounds of it.

18.) 08 Jan 2022 09:50:45
Ed 2. Do u mean can't put £237m legally into club? Or just physically can't afford it?

{Ed002's Note - That is what FFP is there to stop. This is why we don't discuss finances.}

19.) 08 Jan 2022 10:59:32
They don’t have better business models. One is in £1.5BN debt to its owner and the other is state funded and gets round rules due to a technicality.

Our owners simply don’t have the resources to compete so we have to accept that Klopp is our secret weapon but there is only so much he can do especially in a C.V. where squad quality and depth is so key.

20.) 08 Jan 2022 12:28:50
Digger. There is a thread maybe a few pages down on the rumours page. It explains what the owners are allowed to do regarding finances and what they can't. That might help. Cheers.

21.) 08 Jan 2022 10:00:55
Thanks for answering 👍.

22.) 08 Jan 2022 15:26:37
If you can’t take a business forward what happens next then Ed?

How do you see us as a club rectifying our financial problems?

{Ed002's Note - At the moment the impact of the pandemic needs to be past many clubs.}

23.) 08 Jan 2022 16:53:32
FFP isn’t the issue for us …. It’s cash! We’ve bought players in the past on the never never and it caught up with us with C.V.. I am of the opinion though that cash does need injecting, ideally through the owners (interest free loans but I understand that is restricted) or debt or we will start to fade away. We funded transfers in the past through big player sales who were in their prime (Suarez, coutinho) but do we really want to do that again? I just hope the Elliots / Jones become as good as we all hope and they have the potential to be.

13 Nov 2020 22:42:42
Hey there eds, I was wondering if we have any interest still in tarkowski as I remember Klopp fancied him a while back and with him not being happy at Burnley weather interest would be reconsidered?

Also what is your view on Lewis dunk? Do you think he would cut it with us? Or is he at his level at Brighton?

Alwaysforgetpasswords1

{Ed002's Note - Tarkowski is valued at £50M by Burnley and that put off West Ham who were prepared to pay £30M in the summer. Dunk has just signed a new contract and Liverpool has no interest.}

1.) 14 Nov 2020 12:37:46
Unless we’re going to buy a CB who can genuinely challenge Gomez, or is a considerable upgrade, there’s little point in it for me. Particularly 50mil for a mediocre prem level CB.

2.) 14 Nov 2020 15:19:44
That’s a hell of a lot for tarkowski, looks like we will be scanning across Europe again.

Thanks.

3.) 14 Nov 2020 16:35:49
I’m sure the club has an extensive list of CBs already considering we wanted one in the summer.

4.) 14 Nov 2020 22:31:00
Gabriel from arsenal was good value post C.V. maybe we can pick up a handy defender for around that mark if there is cash .

5.) 15 Nov 2020 00:57:42
Tarkowski? Really? Is this where we’re at? I’d rather play Phillips quite frankly. Tarkowski is certainly no better than our current options and HE IS A DYED IN THE WOOL UNITED FAN AND THEREFORE HAS NO BUSINESS PLAYING FOR US.

6.) 15 Nov 2020 10:43:24
Sorry 6times but the notion we should never consider a player who is a die hard utd fan is nothing short of childish.

As long as when they put on the Liverpool shirt they care only about a Liverpool win, who cares?

Are you honestly telling me that if Mbappe, Haaland wanted to come to Liverpool but we’re die hard UTd fans, you’d say no thanks? Get a grip mate.

7.) 15 Nov 2020 12:19:39
Aren't we interested in Bremer? Brazilian left footed defender at Torino.

I don't think it'll be Upamecano, as his 40m release clause only kicks in next summer. Ben White is going to be too expensive and he's only just signed a new contract. Also Kabak, but he just seems a bit too rash for my liking.

{Ed002's Note - Everton has an interest in Gleison Bremer - Carlo Ancelotti tried to take him to Napoli and could try again - but a Work Permit could be an issue unless paying over the odds. I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool at this time.}

8.) 15 Nov 2020 12:26:48
Thank you Ed002. Have a great day.

{Ed002's Note - And you Eric.}

9.) 15 Nov 2020 16:58:35
You mean like carragher was a die hard evertonian?

10.) 16 Nov 2020 09:06:30
Tarkowski who has yet to sign a new contract with Burnley? if LFC are interested then the data scientist would have done their homework and they have been pretty good so far with spotting players, just need Naby lad to pull his finger out and put in some decent performances but there is allowed an exception to the rule and I have been a Naby supporter but his past 3 games were disappointing . even for me.

11.) 16 Nov 2020 13:34:13
LFC have shown interest in Tarkowski for a couple years now from what I can remember, but I don't see how our situation is so dire that we need to shell out a large sum for a full-time CB, unless an opportunity comes up where we can add that automatic starter partner for VVD that Klopp has been searching for. Basically, we are staying the course unless an unlikely situation comes up, so everyone should just be prepared to watch this team battle and stay the course.

I know I am in the minority here, but I think there is plenty of depth to cover CB with Matip, Fabinho, Hendo, Gini, Phillips, Rhys Williams, and maybe even Milner. Injuries are a part of football, and sometimes you get hit hard, but I don't think this is anything we can't handle.

12.) 16 Nov 2020 13:55:42
No guarantee big Virgil comes back anywhere near as good after his injury, I genuinely hope I'm wrong here though, he's also not far off 30 so it could be a replacement in a year or two/ partner that's needed.

13.) 16 Nov 2020 15:56:30
We're talking about different things here. I don't think LFC needs to shell out big money right now to fill a gap is all that I am saying. I think looking at someone to play CB alongside him for the long-term is worth exploring beyond the 20/ 21 season, but spending significant dollars in january does not make sense to me, especially since we've deferred much of the cash outlay on our summer of 2020 moves to future periods. We have to be careful.

14.) 16 Nov 2020 23:45:01
Whether a player who happens to be a fan of a rival team has business playing for us or not is a mute point. A die hard UTD fan would not play for Liverpool and vice versa. Plus, whilst I don’t know this for fact, I doubt many players think like this which is why most players don’t stay at one club their whole career regardless of loyalties which will ebb and flow when the game to them is a career rather than a passionate pastime like it is for us. Do any of you think Jay Spearing still loves the club? Or Jack Robinson? Connor Coady? Gerrard a cousin whatever his name was? Etc etc.

15.) 21 Nov 2020 06:53:14
Ben White that’s who we should look at.

16.) 21 Nov 2020 06:55:06
Tarkowski is just not good IMO. Dunk average. White young, probably expensive but decent and performing well in the Prem.

Anybody else on here think Klopp is going to walk in summer?

What do you think?

His recent manner and outward appearance doesn’t look great at all.

Alwaysforgetpasswords1

1.) 14 Jan 2023 11:12:46
I don't think so. I think klopp like most great managers is a bad loser and I think the way we've being losing, outfought and outworked, will have particularly hurt him.
No doubt all isn't rosy behind scenes with so many comings and goings but I can't see klopp doing anything else only seeing out his contract with us.
Hopefully new owners by summer and good summer of investment in players will boost him as well.

2.) 14 Jan 2023 11:55:15
I think he would only walk in the case that he and the new owners do not share vision and principles. Otherwise he’ll get on with the job in hand. He signed the new deal to build the 2.0.

3.) 14 Jan 2023 12:12:47
There’s something different about Klopp this year I don’t see him shouting or raging to his players anymore.

4.) 14 Jan 2023 12:18:31
No.
I think he'll see his contract out.
The mood on the forum doesn't necessarily reflect the mood in reality.
Thank God ?.

5.) 14 Jan 2023 12:41:23
No. I think he’ll see this through. He’s still the best man for the job.

6.) 14 Jan 2023 13:04:05
Be strange for him to do it so soon after signing a new deal.

7.) 14 Jan 2023 13:12:00
Post of the day Victor ?.

8.) 14 Jan 2023 13:20:53
His controller Pep has told him to stop shouting.

9.) 14 Jan 2023 13:24:57
Klopp’s philosophy is very clear, it is family first for him.

If he and Ulla feel that it is time to walk away then that is exactly what will happen, new contract or not. The thing I love about Jurgen, and what can also work against him, is he is a man of principles and he views football as a job. A job he has made clear that he appreciates, and expresses how lucky he is but a job nonetheless.

When he feels the time is right, he will resign. Not when we think it will happen. I am half expecting a Shankly-esque shock resignation. I hope i am wrong.

10.) 14 Jan 2023 14:44:34
How could the guy be surprised that we’ve been outfought and outworked when that’s the way we’ve been set up to play? It’s beggars belief. There’s not a single team in the world that has ever been great because they tried less than everyone else, because they tried to conserve more energy than everyone else. Has there ever been an example of a winning team, particularly in England, that has achieved greatness by playing with less intensity, rather than more? It’s completely counter intuitive to what we know football to be.

11.) 14 Jan 2023 14:59:08
agreed, it doesn't make any sense at all, the way we are playing, just outrun us, be more aggresive, and win the midfield battle, and you will have a great chance of getting something from the game, just ask the Wolves team .

12.) 14 Jan 2023 15:25:15
If we lose today klopp should be concerned for his job. No one is bigger than the club. Also we got rid of manages for similar results.

13.) 14 Jan 2023 16:41:16
Walk at the end of the season, if this showing continues he will go way before that. This is getting embarrassing now.

14.) 14 Jan 2023 17:01:19
If we don’t sign a midfielder in the next 16 days. Jurgan will Walk 100%.

15.) 14 Jan 2023 17:07:24
Well at least there’s no doubt about how poor we are at the moment.
It was getting boring beating everyone each week anyway lol.
Time to get behind Klopp and the lads.
Roll on Summer.
It could be worse, we could support Everton.

16.) 14 Jan 2023 17:08:23
I agree he needs to leave now his bizarre behaviour and terrible decisions and non existent tactics are completely baffling. He has been a hero for our club but now he must walk away. I would not be against a full clear out of Klopp and his staff Pep and the others. I would appoint Gerrard now I feel his time has come to drag our club out of another hole we have put ourselves in. Klopp out Stevie in.

17.) 14 Jan 2023 17:14:27
I’d be surprised if he lasts until the summer. I think he’ll leave before then if things continue as they are. He looks to have aged hugely because of the stress he’s under.
Snapping at journalists where in the past he would have laughed it off. Berating match officials at every turn.
I hope I’m wrong. I hope he can fix things because clearly it’s not working on the pitch. I hope he’s here for a few more years. Sadly I think that’s all it is. Hope.

18.) 14 Jan 2023 17:17:31
You back on the crack pipe Lavish?

19.) 14 Jan 2023 17:26:44
Whatever I am on it isn’t half as strong as what Klopp has been taking? That is it Klopps era is over and he got to go. Right back to the pipe might cheer me up.

20.) 14 Jan 2023 17:31:29
Back on Jim? Was he ever off it?

21.) 14 Jan 2023 18:31:02
Gosh, do we have some fickle fans at times. The call to drop klopp at first sight of difficulties is insane.

Lavish just sounds like a troll to be honest as pipes up on defeats.

Yes our midfield wreck should have been seen a mile away but got to give klopp the chance to fix it. We all want a seamless transition to a new winning team but maybe it ain't as easy as in past years.

22.) 15 Jan 2023 01:13:03
Klopp might walk to keep an eye on StEtienneAmen and his wife. He's on first name terms with her!

{Ed002's Note - Most people are on first name terms with their wives.}

31 Dec 2021 11:49:51
Hello Ed’s hope you’ve had a good Christmas and have a great new year.

I have a question on our front 3 contract situation as in length left and your comment that there is plenty of time to sort them out.

Is 18 months normal to keep contract situations from running down to low so the player demands more? And have Liverpool shown through example what can happen with gini if you get to greedy or mess around?

12-18 months doesn’t seem that long to me if the club (with FSG model) want to maximise money from sales to reinvest into the team isn’t this hampering future available transfer money by from the outset stuttering negotiations?

Alwaysforgetpasswords1

{Ed002's Note - It is fine for players of their age.}

1.) 31 Dec 2021 20:51:01
Thanks Ed

I’m easy with what klopp wants.

30 Aug 2021 10:16:38
I think it’s clear that fsg have gone as far as they can/ should as the self sustaining model obviously isn’t working well if Utd, city, Chelsea and even arsenal are spending within there means. I’m not against them in anyway I’m just thinking maybe it’s best they get there profit and move on and call it a success.

Edwards by the sounds of it is sick of working under big restrictions and I wonder how long it will be before klopp gets annoyed.

Ed’s are we standing still like in the 90s while everyone is catching up?

Alwaysforgetpasswords1

1.) 30 Aug 2021 10:29:08
😂😂😂.

2.) 30 Aug 2021 10:49:12
Why would they leave when their Asset (LFC) value is just going up everyday/ month/ year?

It's not FSG fault if we can't shift players, it's not their Fault when Klopp wanted to sign the likes of keita, OX, Minamino etc on top of that he refused selling Origi when the offers were coming for him after we just had won CL and decided he should get a new improved contract, same with OX despite coming from horrific Injury Klopp was hell bent to give him new improved contract now let's blame everything on FSG despite these players are still here with Klopp who signed them and even rewarded them With improved longer-term deals.

I said couple of days back it's not compulsory what we think Klopp should think the same.

It seems to me some fans have completely lost it after drawing with Chelsea.

Chelsea are a top top team there's no guarantee even buying the players some posters want we could defeated them

Winning EPL it's not abt beating the likes of Chelsea or city or united, it's abt beating the likes of Burnelys, wolves, palaces, etc.

3.) 30 Aug 2021 10:53:28
They’ve already caught us. 2 seasons back we finished 33 points above Chelsea and United, they were nowhere. We stood still and they didn’t.

4.) 30 Aug 2021 11:11:37
The C.V. has meant that Liverpool are probably those two or three players short that would have otherwise been brought in.
No point getting on FSG’s back.

5.) 30 Aug 2021 11:14:55
Their asset won't be going up if we fail to make the cl and we don’t sell enough Nike gear. It’s all related. Kopforever you have just picked 3 signings that haven’t quite worked out, how unfair. It’s impossible to but 15 players and each one be great but over Klopps reign we have the best success in the market bar none. FSG need to support Klopp or ship out.

6.) 30 Aug 2021 11:55:14
I think all genuine fans are thankful for what they have done but don’t understand why other clubs can spend away but we always have to sell to buy. I know explinations have been attempted before but maybe Ed02 could just give a reminder so we can all move on from it.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs can only spend profits from earnings, money from player sales and a small amount which the owners can provide. Liverpool made a loss in the last Financial Year, they owe money from the transfers last summer and they have had to pay for Konate. If you take Chelsea as an example, they fund their transfers through sales and profits.}

7.) 30 Aug 2021 13:11:18
WDW, I second the motion. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

8.) 30 Aug 2021 13:03:23
Kop forever that's rubbish, the year we finished a point behind city our head to head with the was a draw and a loss, 1 point from 5, you must win your home games against your title rivals,

9.) 30 Aug 2021 13:41:33
Mark it seems you've no idea how business works, spurs have been in top ten what have they won?

After 2nd Stand LFC value will just rocket again like it did last season despite winning nada and pendemic.

Port red is just wastage of time debating with you mate when you've already made up your mind

Mark those signing which you said are just "three" some of them were just rewarded by our manager getting them improved contracts so have no Idea why would they get improved contract if Klopp wasn't happy with them?

08 Feb 2021 00:24:42
Hey everyone I could understand all the negativity and “Klopps doing what he did at Dortmund “ bs if VVD, Gomez, Matip and Alisson missing a chunk of games with Salah, Mane and Firmino missing games through C.V. and a seriously complicated unpresidented fixture list in history we’re fit and playing every game I would be asking the same questions. It all has happened and we are 3rd and we are doing really well considering the circumstances. Klopp has raised our standards and he always slowly re introduces new signings so don’t get too frustrated with the no cbs at cb. Personally no Utd title this season is a success and top four is a good achievement considering our situation. I won’t be turning off the tv if we’re losing and will support our title winners through thick and thin no Matter what happens. Guys I know your used too winning every game but please trust in Klopp and our players. YNWA.

Alwaysforgetpasswords1

1.) 08 Feb 2021 08:15:56
Maybe such people can enlighten us on what “Klopp actually did at Dortmund” cos I see a lot of people saying that in the abstract but never really explain or give evidence on what he actually did.

2.) 08 Feb 2021 12:54:57
he won them 2 titles and got to a champions league final.

I’ve seen these articles, one was by a top guy at the echo and the other one I saw was from the same guy that broke the super league joke.

It is a reoccurring pattern though the FSG spin machine of a transfer “war chest” then nothing and a resigning of a top player on a new contract.

Lancaster you are right and I think more people are starting to see it.

I have no problem with any religion and don’t care where any future owners come from as long as they have good intentions. What is killing everything religions and ethical values is the work community and why can’t anybody keep anything private anymore it’s almost like everyone has to to shout to the rooftops and be obeyed!

Politics should also have been kept out of football it’s now almost a flavour of the month football gesture.

How about everyone is just nice to each other and treat everyone how they would want to be treated.

Rant over lol.

I’m and never will be klopp out and I reached this point in the united away game where I saw no fight! Poor form I can deal with but no fight or determination is disgraceful and unacceptable. I’m sure keita is stirring some minds up off the pitch and I think for the first time last night klopp openly saw a new direction is needed. Always keep the faith reds.

I think if we didn’t have so many games to play last season he wouldn’t have started many games, I think klopp uses him when he’s fit mainly to rest more effective players. Let’s be brutally honest here, he doesn’t score many he doesn’t assist many and he certainly doesn’t turn up when playing that often. It’s not about berating players or having a “whipping boy” it’s calling out what us fans are seeing and he’s not or never will be a £50m player.

I think if you put anyone in a team with the same manager for 4/ 5 years there will be an improvement but naby doesn’t have the drive for bettering himself or the mentality of self improvement, he clearly feels that “making it” is a chance to stop further development.

Disappointment of a signing really.

I’m neither a nabby fan or hater, I am struggling to see the hype from his form last season and honestly don’t think him leaving is such a bad idea. One thing we know is he is not a £50m player. Elliott, Jones or Milner are more effective from what I’ve seen last season.
