What do you expect to happen now eds. Who is the guilty party and how's it going to be dealt with internally? If we are lucky to escape an fa/ fifa punishment that is.

Arcrux

{Ed002's Note - The club and Klopp are both guilty.}

Another fantastic performance by dejan lovren at the back. He seems to relish the physical challenge that players like lukaku and deeney pose. Him and Matip Throttled and suffocated deeney and niasse for majority of the game. But yet again, it could have all been for nothing if that prodl shot had got in. It's fine margins in this league, and you look at how top cb's like kompany suffer against the lowest scoring side in the league. It doesn't necessarily make him bad, it's just that it takes time and a settled back 4. I think lovren can be in the mold of alderweirld, vertonghen, kompany and mentioned in the top cb bracket, if we maintain consistency around him i. e. The back 4 and the one who sits in front of them, which Lucas did magnificently well again. I would much rather fine tune him, than bring in an expensive vvd, who would no doubt need time (years? ) to fix the problem.

1.) 01 May 2017 23:07:02
Yeah, I loved how he marked Benteke out the game last week too.

2.) 01 May 2017 23:35:38
No just no, just because he didn't make any simple mistakes like he usually does and you are now comparing him to the top centre backs in the league. Lovren is an awful defender, simple as.

3.) 02 May 2017 00:00:56
Didn't know Premier League teams were allowed to field players who belong to other clubs. Surprised they played him ahead of Niang!

4.) 02 May 2017 02:07:55
Lovren is not awful. He's got some bad games in him sure. But awful isn't quite fair.

5.) 02 May 2017 06:45:29
Agree with TjRed, there is a big gap between top class and awful and Lovren sits in that gap. He is limited and not top class but there are worse in the division and far worse as you go down the leagues and those guys aren't awful defenders just not very good.

6.) 02 May 2017 07:16:18
He could be top class if he starts focussing on his game more. He has all the elements of a top class defender apart from concentration.

{Ed001's Note - and bravery. He turns away from shots, rather than facing up to them. That means he has no idea where the ball has gone, which costs him seconds that can, and have, cost us goals while he recovers.}

7.) 02 May 2017 09:26:40
I know what you're saying ed and I think his fairly regular but brief injury spells are the cause of that.
When he's playing well and had a period of fitness I've seen him put himself about.
We're not getting the best out of him and the fact that he's got a new contract hopefully means Klopp has plans to remedy this.

{Ed001's Note - he still puts himself about, I am talking about the bravery to take a shot to the face, rather than turning away. And not to pussy out with a bit of blood in the nose like in the last game, when he was not even off with a broken nose or anything, just a bleed. When a shot comes in, he always turns away, every time. It is not due to injuries, it is because the modern day player is too much of a pussy to take a whack to the face from these feather light balls that barely hurt.}

8.) 02 May 2017 11:43:15
We should put our defenders through 'police horse training'.
Fire tennis balls at them until they learn not to flinch 😎.

9.) 02 May 2017 17:32:45
The players of today wouldn't get on the pitch 20 years ago with that useless attitude of not wanting to take one in the face. Spoiled children really who don't want their hair cuts or lips busted to save a goal.

I never turned away from a shot when I played for the exact reasons you mentioned. It's like heading the ball. You can 't close your eyes and head the ball then are shocked when the header is inaccurate. You need to look at the ball in order to direct it where you want it to go.

Same with blocking a shot, you need to face the shot so you can block the angle the shot will go to or at least have a better chance of blocking the shot cos turning away is just stupid.

One of the things I have noticed in our play is that we almost instinctively counter press now. It's been drilled so deep into the players' subconscious, that I don't think it is ever going to be a problem anymore. It's more of the cluelessness when you have it, slow build up and lack of quick incisive passing which was the hallmark in the first half of the season, that's just completely gone all of a sudden. Klopp's managerial prowess is in the limelight and I'm sure he has it in him to rise to the challenge. It took him a couple of seasons at dortmund to get the players in tune with his methodology and for him to get accustomed to his players' strengths and once the coordination was set right, they just exploded onto the scene.

Arresting the collapse, achieving top 4 and then masterminding a memorable summer window is what's needed now. I just hope he's a willing learner and that these mistakes will only contribute towards making him the best in the game.

We need to get quality balls into the box from wide but we have no decent crossers of the ball, failing that we need to chuck origi on and punt it to him in the box.

It's no good playing firmino against a team that are sitting deep. Completely and utterly pointless.

2.) 05 Feb 2017 16:13:19
I agree our crossing is abysmal, but we should still be posing more threat with the players we have at our disposal. Wijnaldum had the knack of arriving late in the box and score some good headers for Newcastle, hendo is a tall lad, and then our defenders should be more aggressive at attacking set pieces. I'm particularly disappointed in Emre Can in that he should cause havoc among defenders with his huge frame. But all he offers is a static and a weak presence at the moment. He is lucky he has the engine called hendo covering up his poor decision making. Origi is much much better at winning aerial duels plus offers a goalscorer up top. I would swap that one surely.

3.) 05 Feb 2017 22:39:55
Spot on, Acrux. We have been clueless in our use of the ball when we win it back, something we had no problem with cos during this bad run when we win the ball with the opposition out of position, we have been poor at attacking their vulnerability to create chances, something that is the bedrock of the gegenpress.

Earlier in the season when this happened, we would flood their zone with quick passing, movement and chances would come. Even Spurs had issues with us playing that way. Now, all that's gone and it needs to be fixed or Klopp may have to change the way we play to first off, stop us conceding silly goals first before we go for the win.

Hello everyone

Just want to hear your thoughts on Firmino picking up a yellow for the shirt off celebration. He's absolutely a beast and my favorite Liverpool player, but he has this tendency to "want to" take his shirt off after every goal he scores and finally did yesterday. I don't want the lad missing any game, least because of accumulating stupid yellow cards.

Arcrux

1.) 30 Oct 2016 12:36:15
I thought that goal killed the game beyond Palace reach and hence took the shirt off. Moreover that finish was just world class.

2.) 30 Oct 2016 12:46:16
it was unnecessary imo.

im not talking about the rules on taking your shirt off, bt the action of doing something while being fully aware that youll get booked.

whether it should be a yellow or not is another topic.

probably the only thing i don't like to see from my favourite player tbf.

3.) 30 Oct 2016 12:55:36
The vision and weighted pass from Hendo was just as class.

4.) 30 Oct 2016 12:58:46
SCM not at all related to OP.
Silly way to pick up a yellow. could come back to bite us!

5.) 30 Oct 2016 13:39:04
Indeed it was a great goal, and settled some nerves, but he has the knack of wanting to do it every time he scores. To be fair he has controlled himself on more than one occasion, but picking up a yellow card for that is a bit stupid considering he's usually the brightest and sharpest player on the pitch. Hope klopp gets it sorted.

6.) 30 Oct 2016 14:00:59
Probably he got lost in the moment.

7.) 30 Oct 2016 14:16:42
I like it to be honest. Knows it will get him a yellow card but does it anyway, because he's in the moment and wants to celebrate.

If Firmino got five yellow cards for taking his shirt off and missed a game it would just highlight how ridiculous a rule this is and that it clearly needs rethinking.

8.) 30 Oct 2016 14:57:09
It wouldn't though Joe, it would just highlight the complete stupidity of some footballers not being able to follow simple rules. As. Someone else above said, whether it should be a yellow or not is irrelevant, it's the rules right now and any player should get fined by his club for that. There'll always be mistimed challenges and even the occasional "taking one for the team. " We need him in as many games as possible and getting paid that highly to be a professional should mean just that, you act like a pro. If / when he misses a game for accumulated yellows I just hope it doesn't cost us.

9.) 30 Oct 2016 15:30:19
It's the rules and if you intentionally break it your only helping the opposition.

10.) 30 Oct 2016 15:36:15
I don't really care asking he don't get a red card.

11.) 30 Oct 2016 15:37:58
@Lfc hopeful - this isn't like working in Starbucks though this is scoring an important, result-clinching goal. The game is emotional and the players, though professional, are not immune to those emotions. If the club wants to piss off one of its best players for getting emotional about scoring for the club then a fine would be a great way of doing that.

12.) 30 Oct 2016 16:16:46
And when he can't play in a game because of that the club should just accept that? I know it's emotional but you don't have to take your shirt off! If it wouldn't get him punished he could take his whole kit off for all I care, but let's say he misses the city game in a few weeks cause he picks up a few more yellow, how stupid would that be!?

13.) 30 Oct 2016 18:24:55
Its an emotionl game. you can't have this debate wihout accepting the point that the rule itself is just bollocks. Players yelling obsenities and gesturing like wild animals to the refs and linesman get nothing and then you get a yellow for taking your shirt off in celebration of a goal? Just crazy.

{Ed002's Note - The rule is there because the FA are looking to find more and more ways to penalise LIverpool - you are right, it is a conspiracy.}

14.) 30 Oct 2016 19:49:00
I don't think individuals mean it as a conspiracy towards Liverpool ed2. People can vent their feelings at will and be it Liverpool or any other team receiving a yellow, I am against that rule. I think you need to maybe take a break from this site if Liverpool fans stress you out to the point were you throw vile remarks towards them. Or maybe just comment on the team that you support but I'm sure that will put u out of work with not much to do. Cheers. Hope this gets posted as I am sure people have a right to vent their feelings just like the eds.

{Ed002's Note - You may like to see young men topless, and given by you showing what a wanker you are with the rest of you post it is no suprise. I remain astonished at the amount of little Johnny Jerkoffs that support Liverpool and get pissed when anyoneone suggests that they should not be looking at these smooth-skinned young men. I suspect you have a career in waxing men ahead of you - and of course a very large Kleenex bill. I love it when you really embarrass yourselves like this.}

15.) 31 Oct 2016 00:21:05
It is ridiculously stupid to take your shirt off.
I know it's an emotional game but outside of St James' Park how many fans take their shirts off when they're emotional? How many other sports do it? Tennis players do it when they're sweaty but that's about all I can think of. I would prefer to see it eradicated from the game to be honest, it's not something I want to see at the match.

16.) 31 Oct 2016 01:41:45
of all the things I don't want to see at a football match, in order, it'd be along these lines:

1-any kind of abuse from fans, racial, homophobic, mocking tragedies etc
2-abusing officials
3-diving
4-50/ 50 handballs / fouls that don't get called in the box just because it is in the box - why not call an indirect free kick if you don't think it worthy of a pen!
5-Liverpool players making mistakes. although arguably this could be #1 on me list.

17.) 30 Oct 2016 21:19:33
not really sure what your reply has to do with my comment ed002. the rule in general is stupid, it's nothing to do with Liverpool. but we are talking about it because the specific example was in our game.

back to the rule, I just think it's small fry especially when ya think about all the other rubbish that goes on on the pitch and in the stands, I'd hazard a guess that there are far more important things in the game to be stamping out than a dude flexing his muscles to celebrate scoring a goal.

{Ed002's Note - It is a pitiful excuse you are using because a particularly stupid player got himself booked.}

18.) 30 Oct 2016 22:54:01
I know what you're saying. But every now and then I like to see the consequences ignored and ridiculous rules contradicted, rather than just blindly abided.

PS. pretty homophobic Ed :s.

{Ed002's Note - I assume you don't know what "homophobic" means. BUt you are right, clubs like Liverpool should not need to have to adhere to the rules like others. Pitiful.}

19.) 31 Oct 2016 14:39:36
Normally like Ed2's jokes at our expense and take them in jest, but I really don't think you should be mocking a fan for liking to see "young men topless" and needing Kleenex afterwards.

So what if that was true Ed? In this case I think you're making yourself look foolish.

To the original point, Firmino was stupid to take his top off in my opinion, he knew it was going to be a yellow and it cost me 1 point for my fantasy team! Lovely goal though.

{Ed002's Note - I imagine a great number of Liverpool fans are like that - hardly making myself look foolish.}

20.) 31 Oct 2016 14:58:03
I think I was being polite with foolish to be honest. Maybe inappropriate would be another way of putting it. Or possibly something worse, either way, probably best to avoid such topics.

As I said, your usual posts make me laugh, but this one wasn't funny and I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve from it.

{Ed002's Note - One damp patch after another. If you are offended then dont use the site anymore.}

What does this mean for the player himself ed001? Is he also facing the prospect of a ban? Maybe not by his parent club who might not be able to afford it, but by the governing body.?

Arcrux

{Ed001's Note - it is unlikely to lead to any kind of ban for the player. His issue is that the club themselves could freeze him out and leave him in limbo and his chance to get a big move could go.}

Hello ed002,

You mentioned balotelli can be bought very cheaply off Liverpool, and if it doesn't workout then, still, sold for a profit later. Do you believe that Liverpool just don't know how to sell the unwanted players? It always seems like we buyout their contracts, let them go for free and incur incredible losses. Is this the financial mismanagement that you keep mentioning or is that far more encompassing subject (I'd understand if you think it's not worth the pain on these pages) . And how do clubs like Chelsea manage to get a decent value out of players who they deem not ready for their first team (no dig, I'm a huge fan of how it seems they are the new masters in negotiation) .

Arcrux

{Ed002's Note - No, Balotelli needed to move on and the loan to buy was the only viable option. Inter could buy and then resell immediately in the summer to potentially profit. Chelsea has a strategy for each player and ensure that when they are on loan they get good experience. This has worked well.}

Could be that with WC coming up, him having a stellar one with Brazil leads to more suitors lining up. Perhaps they are afraid of a potential bidding war?

Complacency is our biggest enemy. But we always respond to silly lackluster performances with a good solid professional outing, so I am quite confident we will be fine against west ham.

Maybe klopp has realized he needs to tweak the defensive system for better results. Lovren has shown time and again that he can be a top cb, remember how he had the best striker in the league, lukaku, in his pocket in the derby which prompted the Ed to call it a 'masterclass in handling lukaku' or something on those lines. Maybe a more accomplished and composed player like Godin can sort him out but how many Godins out there are lining up to sign for us? I think We need to address our approach to defense and our strategy as a priority and work on individual technique. I hope klopp can fix that.

Are people stopped from getting autographs at melwood? Wow! Would I want to shout on top of my voice chanting the players' names if they can't take out a couple of seconds to scribble on a sheet of paper? This is an appalling and absolutely unjustifiable rule for any kind of sport that pays out millions in wages!
