Hi Ed002. Appreciate all the knowledge you've shared recently and you're patience too. If I may ask, with RB seemingly done, does that preclude a January bid AT?

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

{Ed002's Note - There is zero chance of AT I am afraid.}

1.) 01 Sep 2023 01:36:16
Ryan Bravengerch.

2.) 01 Sep 2023 06:30:40
Think we need to offload before any more incomings now. We are sorted up top, 9 players for 3 positions in midfield and 4 senior CB’s.
I would expect we have been trying to move on Thiago and Matip at the very least, if not also Tsimikas.
Think we are probably done now, not bad at all in my book. Next summer will need to be defence and the challenge of replacing Salah as I don’t think Szob is that player as some on here seem to suggest.

3.) 01 Sep 2023 07:32:33
Whats an AT? Anyone?

{Ed025's Note - Aurealien Tchouameni..

4.) 01 Sep 2023 07:52:01
To be fair Westwood, we have off loaded Bobby, Hendo, Fabs, Millie, Ox, Naby, Arthur, Clarkson, Stewart and loaned out Williams, Koumetio, Phillips, Van den Berg, Ramsey, Carvalho off the top of my head. That’s 15 in or around the senior squad and we’ve brought in Dom, Macca, Endo and RG. And a couple of youngsters for the academy. I think there is an outside chance of a left sided defender coming in.

5.) 01 Sep 2023 07:54:36
I think it's Andre Trindade.

{Ed025's Note - maybe Lambourini, or even Andy Townsend?.. :)

6.) 01 Sep 2023 07:54:41
Andre Trindade perhaps.

7.) 01 Sep 2023 07:57:44
I think he may have meant Andre Trindade.

8.) 01 Sep 2023 00:59:48
No chance in January, Ed? What changed?

{Ed002's Note - Tchouameni is not joining Liverpool.}

9.) 01 Sep 2023 09:18:12
Sorry Ed, I meant Andre Trindade.

I think we all made peace with Aurelian Tchouameni never marrying Klopp.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps but there is another side (perhaps two) looking to agree a move for January now.}

10.) 01 Sep 2023 10:11:00
We should have gone for AT-AT, we needed a long legged defender who could carry the team ;)

On a more serious note, I hope we push for Andre Trindade, but by Jan we’ll also know a lot more as to how Endo and Bajcetic are getting on at CDM.

11.) 01 Sep 2023 13:15:45
Yeah I know WDW but realistically of those 15 you list only 4 were ever really playing in the first team last season, and one of them was a forward. So of those that were actually playing we have offloaded 3 midfielders and brought in 4. I think the squad is stronger for sure, but I just worry about development for our promising young players.
Each position should IMO have two players battling it out to be first choice, and then have the youth behind as cover.

09 Nov 2022 15:49:58
Hi Ed02 is Pagliuca and his Bain group a possibility for new owners?

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

{Ed002's Note - Yes they are certainly going to be a possibility.

1.) 09 Nov 2022 16:16:22
Great news that they’re a possibility.

2.) 09 Nov 2022 16:21:27
Thanks Ed02. That's good to hear as he doesn't appear to come with the baggage that some other possibilities have.

3.) 09 Nov 2022 17:00:30
They're only worth $160 billion!

4.) 09 Nov 2022 18:40:27
Baked bean boy
That’s About what Bellingham’s worth after the World Cup.

5.) 09 Nov 2022 18:44:13
I don’t know whether to be excited about all this or worried. It does feel like we are at a significant turning point in our history which could have a massive impact on our future. The squad needs refreshing, we need money to do it and I hope Klopp is the man to rebuild the team but I’m unsure if he can…and now ownership of the club may change hands. I’m crossing everything right now as this feels like a crucial moment for the club. Ed02 is coming over calm and positive though in his responses which for some weird reason is making me a bit calmer.

6.) 09 Nov 2022 19:58:08
In his 2009 book The Buyout of America: How Private Equity Is Destroying Jobs and Killing the American Economy, Josh Kosman described
Bain Capital as "notorious for its failure to plough profits back into its businesses, being the first large private-equity firm to derive a large fraction of its revenues from corporate dividends and other distributions. The revenue potential of this strategy, which may "starve" a company of capital, was increased by a 1970s court ruling that allowed companies to consider the entire fair market value of the company, instead of only their "hard assets" in determining how much money was available to pay dividends. In at least some instances, companies acquired by Bain borrowed money in order to increase their dividend payments, ultimately leading to the collapse of what had been financially stable businesses.

7.) 09 Nov 2022 20:03:55
Unsure if Klopp can rebuild the team?
It's about the only thing I'm 100% certain of in these uncertain times.

8.) 09 Nov 2022 21:02:32
the squad needs refreshing. we literally, like, need one or two midfielders, to satisfy this craving.

9.) 09 Nov 2022 21:39:13
That's informative @OneKiss. I personally despise that sort of business model. Venture capitalism is disgusting but with the sort of money we're talking about how many suitors will have clean hands and a clear conscious? As for the asset stripping aspect of it we would have to hope that it would be more of a vanity project a la Abromavich and Chelsea.

10.) 09 Nov 2022 21:46:32
Sorry meant capitalism and maybe Elon Musk is a good guy but who knows.

11.) 09 Nov 2022 23:18:14
Supposedly Steve Balmer, the LA Clippers owner might have interest as well.

12.) 10 Nov 2022 00:19:02
Steve Ballmer looks like uncle Fester.

13.) 10 Nov 2022 00:24:22
Billy, Musk unfortunately is not a good guy, research Amber Herd parties 2011, Musk is one of them who attended with his then wife, Herd has a nickname, Maxwell 2.0.

14.) 10 Nov 2022 11:34:14
My experience tells me that if they're obscenely rich, then they're dodgy or have been in the past. You just don't acquire that much wealth without having to stab someone in the back (literally) or getting it by some other 'untoward' means. As long as they love Liverpool and are willing to invest, then i don't care who buys us.

15.) 10 Nov 2022 18:23:52
Venture capitalists do not have clean hands. It's the same rubbish as oil barons, it's just westerncivwashed and whitepersonwashed.

16.) 11 Nov 2022 10:37:18
I have worked with Bain and they was great owners and ploughed money back into the business when profits was exceeded a lot better than KKR.

17.) 12 Nov 2022 09:18:03
KingCarlos, people make their minds up based on wikipedia nowadays mate. Bain Capital owned Atalanta had the 4th highest net spend in Italy last season. RedBird owned AC Milan had the highest net spend (although a lot of their business was concluded before RedBird took over, there was no subsequent pressure to balance the books with sales) .

When i read people slating American owners seemingly for having the gall to be American, i always read it in Gollum's voice. "Tricksy Americans. They stole it from us! "

18.) 14 Nov 2022 06:20:37
It's not "venture capital". It's private equity.

And Bain doesn't have "160 billion". That money belongs to other people. Bain is paid to decide where to invest it. And they seek a certain return, or they won't invest.

That return target will be about 15% annualized.

Since estimated profits of 75 million for 2022 won't come to 15% on a 3.5 to 4 billion investment, and potentially zero for 2023 if we don't make CL, then the return target will have to be met by re-selling the club for a few billion more in a few years.

Jones is absolutely bossing it tonight. I can't remember the last time a midfielder scored two goals for us. Hopefully grabs another 2nd half.

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

1.) 15 May 2023 21:02:33
I believe the last time a midfielder scored twice for us was Fabinho against Shrewsbury last season. And before that Wijnaldum against Barcelona in THAT game.

I cannot think of any others off the top of my head.

2.) 15 May 2023 21:59:51
Well played Jones, best game in a red shirt. No idea why he wasn’t getting game time earlier as you were on the bench plenty. Hope you can kick on.

3.) 15 May 2023 22:30:15
@Mark - I doubt he would have got game time if Thiago hadn’t been injured. He’s taking his opportunity vet well though eh?

4.) 15 May 2023 23:23:39
Thiago is a luxury player and always will be
I’d sell him this summer and get his wages off the books.

5.) 16 May 2023 00:01:07
Well he answered my question pretty quickly. So proud to have two scousers running the show this evening. If we grab top 4 it would be amazing. Really got it together lately great to see.

6.) 16 May 2023 08:54:22
Jones to be fair, has been killing it overall over the past 6 weeks but he really shined on the night. But again, this is not surprising IMO cos he was running games in the PL and CL in the 20/ 21 season when we were decimated with injuries so it's kinda what he does when healthy and playing consistently. I was not surprised cos we've all seen this before, really.

7.) 16 May 2023 10:06:32
20/ 21 is a long time ago, Oli. I think most here, including me, were doubting whether he could reach and surpass those days. I'm extremely glad to say that my doubts were unwarranted.

I think he has benefited from a change in tactics as well since he has more license to attack now compared to a more disciplined role he was expected to play previously. He has taken his chances with both hands though and I am extremely pleased with him.

23 Mar 2023 19:04:32
When Diaz signed we all assumed that we were getting Mane's replacement in early and obviously that's were he played initially but with Klopp's preference for inverted wingers and Nunez now seemingly making the left forward position his own I have s feeling that the plan now is for Diaz to replace Salah at right forward. This fits in with the theory that Salah's new contract was to protect his value and he'll be off in the summer to help finance the rebuild. Thoughts?

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

1.) 23 Mar 2023 19:20:41
I’m not sure who buys Salah for the price we would want. And that’s not meant as an insult to Salah.

For some unknown reason his face doesn’t seem to fit when it comes to big money transfer talk.

He might not have been at his world class best this season in regards to performances but no other player in the squad matches his numbers for goals and assists.

And they haven’t in the whole time he’s been here.

2.) 23 Mar 2023 19:21:52
Don’t fix what’s not broken.

3.) 23 Mar 2023 20:34:47
Just play Nunez the centreforward thru the middle and Diaz the left winger on the left.

4.) 23 Mar 2023 21:10:15
Why are we selling Salah?

5.) 23 Mar 2023 21:25:44
I would've thought the same as u jude that nunez needs to play as a centre forward but now that gakpo has come in and played the central firmino role I think we look much better as a team that way, gakpo dropping deeper, he good control holds onto it well and we have extra man in midfield which helps defensively. i don't think nunez can play that role, his link play not good enough.

6.) 23 Mar 2023 22:05:25
have no idea, but it is nice that FSG spent money so that we would have lots of options and depth.

7.) 23 Mar 2023 22:17:33
It’s not beyond the realms of reality, but I think next season hopefully they ALL stay fit we will see the transition of the front 3 klopp will use the lot of them and don’t forget carvalho will be given mins too. Excited to see how it pans out I don’t see Mo leaving ( unless he goes the ronaldo route)

8.) 23 Mar 2023 22:34:31
Yeh Digger but Nunez wasnt bought to play as a winger, and he hasn't really had a run of games through the middle yet.

9.) 24 Mar 2023 00:41:40
Put Nunez back to the middle, his finishing has started to click now but he’s not getting anywhere near the amount of chances he was previously which is a shame. Get him back where the goals are and Diaz can have his left wing position back.

10.) 24 Mar 2023 05:55:02
Put Nunez through the middle and you lose any press on the DM or link play. If we go full in for a possession style then it could work but not if we want to return to full intensity pressing. Personally prefer the high intensity style.

11.) 24 Mar 2023 07:15:31
Isn’t the point that our forwards can play in a number of positions across the front line? I think that’s one of the benefits they bring - we pick the three in the best form until we get an injury / loss of form then we have a ready made replacement or two. We have a front five and not just a front three.

12.) 24 Mar 2023 07:53:45
It's a shame we don't have another right back to experiment with. I'd like to see what happens if we go 4-4-2. Trent RM in a Beckham role and Diaz LM, Nunez up top with Salah as a two so they can both drift out wide but also be central enough to be a constant goal threat. It could work, but equally it could be an awful idea and we don't really want to go into another season unsure of our best lineup.

13.) 24 Mar 2023 10:30:15
Darwin drifts inside from the left into the CF position anyway whenever Gakpo goes wide so for me, these are not fixed positions cos Klopp likes constant movement from his forwards anyway. There's nothing to worry about, really IMO.

14.) 24 Mar 2023 19:08:03
Atm Nunez and Gakpo seem to be developing an understanding - they switch between centre and left wing and it works well imo. Add Diaz to that, and if he develops a similar understanding, then them 3 in those 2 positions will be excellent

Look I think Salah needs rested games, can't and shouldn't play every game but replaced? Nobody has come close to the numbers he reaches every single season - even this season, Liverpool have been awful, every pundit says so. They've also been praising the season Rashford is having (and he is having a good season) but Salah's numbers for goals and assists aren't exactly dwarfed in comparison are they?

I mean Liverpool have been poor this season. Salah has not been at his worldclass best since he went to AFCON, but jeez his numbers are still very impressive in spite of this so sell? Awk hell no for me.

15.) 25 Mar 2023 14:24:53
Nunez made the position his own? What planet are you on, he’s played okay but hardly world beating just yet.

01 Oct 2022 23:52:03
I think that what we're seeing now is the birthing pains of the evolution of our way of playing. Klopp knows we can't keep playing the same way because it's only been successful once in the last 5 years in terms of the PL and that's not an acceptable strike rate for him. It's hard to watch at times but hopefully it's one step back in order to take two forwards. Keep on supporting Klopp and the team and no, a bright and shiny new midfielder wouldn't have made a difference.
YNWA.

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

1.) 02 Oct 2022 00:04:36
Saying "it's only been successful once in the last 5 years in terms of the PL" about Liverpool's playing style is one of those things that is factually true-- if we're judging only titles and not basically running the league except for one team-- but is such a misrepresentation of the success we have had that it's difficult to take as a statement.

Yes, Liverpool may be changing their style. It may need to change. But it has nothing to do with a lack of success using the style.

2.) 02 Oct 2022 00:19:25
You're missing the point AP. I'm not not dismissing what we've become because its glorious and I've loved almost every minute of it. It's just what we need to do in Klopp's estimation to reach the next level.

3.) 02 Oct 2022 01:05:47
But the thing is we seem to have no plan whatsoever. I mean, exactly what evolution are we seeing? Leave the right flank constantly exposed as you tell Trent to bomb forward and just turn a blind eye whilst we get targeted minute after minute with seemingly no contingency or instructions for anyone from midfield to help cover. Or to tell Salah, who granted is in poor form to stay out wide as possible so in essence away from goal whilst you tell Trent to cut in? Or to persist with bringing on a 37 year old on every single game as if it’s written into his contract. Or to have Hendo on the pitch but apparently tell him all is well on the right flank so no need to venture there just stay central or even go onto the left hand side despite being the right sided midfielder. Or is the evolution to have a £85 million signing on the bench and then decide to bring him on in the 89th minute, or to bench him consistently. How exactly is Nunez meant to find any kind of form or confidence when he is not playing?

Unfortunately I see no grand plan but stubbornness, which is beyond comprehension. If you strip it all back and go back to basics - If something is not working you try to change it. However, we are just continuing with the same tactics and formation game after game, week after week getting the same results but expecting something different. At the point I don’t know what to say anymore as I see Klopp not changing a thing. Some might say this is crazy but seeing our fixture list up until the World Cup. I can quite easily see us not winning a single Premier League game if we continue with the same tactics and formation. I say that by stressing, if we continue with the same. I love Klopp to bits. The guy has given me the best times supporting this club and you have never heard me say Klopp out and I’m not saying it now. But it looks like he might be his own undoing. What hurts more is it’s in his power to change our fortune but it’s almost like he is making all the wrong decisions all of the time and is so stubborn to admit the tactics and formation is not working and to try something new.

4.) 02 Oct 2022 03:06:54
Unfortunately Jurgen has a shelf life. If you don't replace the players he needs replacing. Sad but true.

5.) 02 Oct 2022 04:00:26
I’m not hearing anything from Klopp or the players to suggest we are trying to evolve. Rather, they are fighting to get back to the best version of who they have been. Either can be true and correct. Point is they’re struggling.

6.) 02 Oct 2022 04:29:58
Was thinking as well after noting Carvalho started just how different the dynamics in our team are without Mane. Regardless of what people thought about his performances etc His DNA is difficult to replace and when I look at that line-up today versus an CI with Mane in it, can’t help thinking how much we miss without him there.

7.) 02 Oct 2022 07:36:42
Spot on, Faith. I don’t know if any evolution of the way we play this season since the team has been evolving near every season since Klopp has been here so that’s a non starter for me. The same evolution that happens every season is happening now but the only thing is that we are struggling badly, unlike other seasons.

I agree as well that there are some growing pains clearly BUT what irks me is the complete lack of confidence within the team. They are trying their best and giving their all clearly but it seems like the more they try, the more things go wrong which is frustrating esp for them esp. They need our support more than ever cos if we quit on them now, might as well pack it in.

8.) 02 Oct 2022 12:00:01
We just need to find a “new” way forward without Mane. We have to rally and get into the top 4, and FSG need to spend big and get 2-3 quality, top players in next summer.

02 Sep 2022 23:13:31
I think that we came into this season a little undercooked by design just like City do under Pep. Unfortunately it's worked against us so far with the injuries but hopefully will benefit us after the WC. It concerns me that it's taking so long to find our rhythm and that it might happen again after the WC.

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

1.) 03 Sep 2022 01:15:22
Do you mean so that we do not get fatigued as soon?

2.) 03 Sep 2022 08:23:25
Champions League Group Games now also start next week, and the following week, LFC now has 5 games in 15 days.

There is then a two week international Break but obviously not for good players, fingers crossed our's come back uninjured and other top teams don't?

The last game before a two week break is Chelsea away at 4.30pm on the Sunday 18 Sept.

25 May 2022 15:22:45
Fabhinho and JoGo in training today and JK hopeful that Thiago will train tomorrow. Looking like a full squad for Saturday and could make all the difference.

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

1.) 25 May 2022 16:04:46
He should of kept casting doubt and make Madrid wait until team sheets went out om Saturday.

Imagine benzema thinking all week he doesn't have to face virgil then bam, 60 minutes before kick off.

{Ed0666's Note - If a player is in full training you cannot hide that.

2.) 25 May 2022 16:09:37
Yeah, I just heard on talkSport Thiago has an unexpectedly good chance of making the Final!

3.) 25 May 2022 16:10:35
A massive difference Billy👍.

4.) 25 May 2022 16:24:12
Looks like Fabinho will be available and Thiago too. Even if Thiago is only on the pitch for 75 minutes, that’s plenty.

5.) 25 May 2022 17:35:30
Think number 7 is coming back to Anfield.

6.) 25 May 2022 17:38:10
Couldn't they train in disguise so the opposition doesn't know that they are fit?

7.) 25 May 2022 17:56:23
Really? Wow. Come on reds.

8.) 25 May 2022 18:01:41
Real Madrid know every trick in the book guys. they wouldn't of fallen for that anyway. they'll probably manage to get ramos back just for this game to break salah again.

9.) 25 May 2022 18:16:01
Calm down Tommy calm down😁.

10.) 25 May 2022 19:36:36
@Rigsby, love it. Perhaps they could limp a bit at training too - make it look like they are still injured 😁

Being a bit more serious I’m glad the club have let the fans know they will probably be in the squad as I think some of us were on the brink of an overload.

11.) 25 May 2022 20:14:37
Well I certainly am. I have never been so stressed out over a match before.

12.) 25 May 2022 21:09:21
You can’t fool anyone in football with such mind games anymore. Everyone knows how you play and what your best line up cos teams prefer to play against your best lineup anyway. I hope Fab and TA can start the final.

Risky but maybe this is what Klopp meant when he said that he'd like the club to take more risks in the transfer market. I've read circa £25m but if he came to a lower ranked pl club and had a good season they'd be looking north of £60m next year.

For a bit of fun would Ed02 express as a fraction the amount Liverpool could hope to get for Salah if he went to SA compared to what PSG would sell Mbappe for if he won't sign a new contract?

BILLYSHANKLEYNWA

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest in Salah from South Africa but transfer fees there are generally on the lower side.}
