Ed002 with declan rice looking unlikely to move anywhere this summer could he let his contract run down the following season or do you see him moving next summer? Think he would be a great player for Liverpool.

{Ed002's Note - His contract doesnot run out next year and Liverpool has shown no interest in him.}

1.) 17 Jun 2022 21:54:23
Besides- even if he said he’ll play for us mght not mean he’ll play for us ?.

2.) 17 Jun 2022 22:39:08
Apart from that.?

3.) 18 Jun 2022 08:52:01
Even though many here are talking about Declan the player himself wants Chelsea and is a massive Chelsea fan. Now if Chelsea want him is another thing but I don't see why we would even try to pursue him. Pluss even though a good player I think he is a tad overated.

4.) 18 Jun 2022 09:46:26
Malak I think his massively overrated.

5.) 18 Jun 2022 10:01:09
Declan Rice in front of Fabinho? What are you smoking.

6.) 18 Jun 2022 11:59:40
If Rice was from Macedonia, he'd be worth about 20m.
He's a good player, but is he that much better than say Bissouma (bar the legal issues)?

7.) 18 Jun 2022 13:29:40
I think Rice is among the best of his age group when he plays box to box. As a holding midfielder, he merely does a job and that is why he looks average for England. People often forget he's still only 23. At a similar age Henderson was nearly swapped for Clint Dempsey!

I'd take Rice at Liverpool but he has become over rated by some. Worth £50m tops. Nowhere near the £150m West Ham reportedly want.

8.) 18 Jun 2022 21:12:38
150 million?! Daaaamn that's crazy money. At that price I would expect Xabi Alosno and Iniesta rolled into one!

Ed001 curtis Jones, what would you do with him? I think the lad has the physicality and quality to cement a permanent position in midfield. What position would you play him in and how would you get the best out of him?

{Ed001's Note - I would keep playing him where Klopp plays him, as the rotation option to Thiago on the left side of the midfield. He gets plenty of time, his issue has been similar to Thiago's, too many injuries to get a proper run. Once he does that, then we can start looking at what he needs to do to improve, as you won't really know until he has had a run to settle into the team properly.}

1.) 11 Aug 2022 11:28:31
Edd001 what type of midfielder do you see him as in the future? I think he has the shooting boots to score 10 plus goals a season?

{Ed001's Note - he should be capable of that, he has the footwork to be the midfielder we bought Naby Keita to be. That player who can pick up the ball and beat a player to create space to either hit a shot or play someone else in to shoot. He really needs to be played higher up the pitch if possible, to be in and around the box when he receives the ball.}

2.) 11 Aug 2022 11:29:42
Hopefully he is back to full fitness soon as he could have a good run of games to do just that with Thiago out.

I’m not sure if it’s happened at all already (I don’t think it has) but I wouldn’t mind seeing Jones and Elliot at the same time get a game in midfield with Fab.

3.) 11 Aug 2022 12:21:37
I have full belief in his ability and want him to do well so badly it is such a shame players like him and Harvey are being hampered by injuries. If Curtis can get get a good run in the side he will definitely turn doubters into believers. Anyway with everyone wanting a midfielder I was thinking do we need to sign some extra physios surely the ones we have are doing some major overtime at the minute. We must have the most overworked physios in world football.

4.) 11 Aug 2022 13:44:02
Jones is neat and tidy on the ball and has an eye for a pass. However doesn’t take the game by the scruff of the neck and often dwells on the ball. Bottom line is he doesn’t score enough goals nor influence the play enough from midfield. Squad player.

5.) 11 Aug 2022 13:56:27
Sorry to disagree. IMHO he's a younger Wijnaldum. Same footwork, similar pace and energy levels. Same ball retention abilities - v hard to get ball off him.

But - main problem - too slow to release the ball. Maybe it's a result of being overcautious and being trained to not lose/ give away the ball.

I see the talent and the potential - but I've not seen that translate to the pitch.

6.) 11 Aug 2022 14:23:24
Who was our last midfielder to score plus 10 goals. At a guess I’d say Ox or Couts but again both played lots in the front 3 whilst doing it.

Surely it can’t be as long back as Stevie G.

7.) 11 Aug 2022 15:14:37
Love Curtis (and Elliott) to death and am a huge fan of his. He has all the technical and skillful tools to be come a very good mid for us. He just needs to get healthy, get a run of games and improve on his speed of thought and decision-making. He has an eye for a pass and a rocket off his right foot. I mean the kid was running games from midfield in the CL in the past 2 seasons so clearly, the talent and ability is there, IMO.

Not sure he is a Gini type player BUT Gini is/ was very technically gifted with a huge engine on him and could modify his game to fit what the manager wants. We shall see.

8.) 11 Aug 2022 17:12:17
Our whole midfield don't score enough goals. Hard to hang just Jones out if that's the issue.

9.) 11 Aug 2022 20:42:53
I could be wrong but I think Jones is quality. It’s just his positioning where I think he falls down. I always feel he’s too deep and ends up taking space from other attackers when he gets into position. Maybe it’s how klopp plays him. I reckon not only will he turn great, but he and Elliot are the future of the club.

10.) 11 Aug 2022 21:46:42
Not a fan of Jones. What’s he really done so far?

11.) 11 Aug 2022 22:01:15
I'm frustrated that Jones cannot stay fit as he needs an extended run of games to show what he can do but he's only 21, for context when De Bruyne was 21 he was warming the bench at Chelsea, it's too early to write Jones off, all players develop differently.

12.) 11 Aug 2022 23:53:48
Agree with thunderbird, the kid has never had a decent run in the team, this opinion that he dawdles on the ball doesn't play it quickly enough could change easily with a run of games in the starting 11.

13.) 12 Aug 2022 07:58:09
Not good enough and should be sold.

08 Aug 2022 17:01:02
Edd001 do you make of diazs finishing? I think he's a splendid footballer but I feel since he joined he's not the best finisher. Is that something you think he will improve or maybe not enough chances coming his way as he works like a dog for the team.

{Ed001's Note - he is not a striker or a wide forward really, he is a proper winger, they are never the best at finishing. He will pick up a few goals, particularly with his head, but I don't think he will ever be a Salah or Mane level at that. However we now have an out-and-out goalscorer in the centre, who should make up for the goals.}

1.) 08 Aug 2022 19:17:58
Ed1. Nunez has been impressive so far hasn't he. Bit raw after times but he's definitely a handful . liked what I saw of him against us in champ league and even more so now he on our side.

{Ed001's Note - very muhc so mate.}

2.) 08 Aug 2022 19:28:41
But a crocked midfield.

3.) 08 Aug 2022 19:33:23
I’m looking forward to seeing Nunez and Jota on the pitch together. They might not be able to pass the ball to each other but Christ don’t they know where that goal is.

4.) 08 Aug 2022 20:42:37
@Klooper - I guess that a mixture of Klopp and blooper?

5.) 09 Aug 2022 08:16:34
Interesting response Ed and certainly not something I’d considered before
Worried now somewhat that if you’re playing a front 3 they all have to weigh in with goals (particularly in our case as midfield 3 aren’t prolific)

If Diaz isn’t scoring regularly then in tight games - it may cost us?

{Ed001's Note - that is why you have goals on the bench ie Jota.}

6.) 09 Aug 2022 08:42:44
JK23, I think Jota would be a perfect foil for Nunez myself judging by the way he is the perfect foil for Ronaldo in the Portuguese setup. I actually think, that could work.

7.) 09 Aug 2022 10:21:39
Having Nunez does give us an actual target in the box to aim at and judging by the way he put himself about at the weekend he should give defences a few problems, but he has to start from now on. No more substitute appearances.

8.) 09 Aug 2022 10:31:38
Oli i suppose only time will tell. Would be interesting to see Bobby off Nunez also or even Bobby off Jota as i don't think they played a lot together last season.

06 Aug 2022 08:29:39
Edd001 who would you partner alongside big virg. I'm just not convinced on konate yet. Judgement of the ball can be lacking. I'd love gomez to get a run of games again with virg.

{Ed001's Note - well Konate is out anyway so it is either Matip or Gomez. Personally I would go with Gomez, he was excellent for us before he got injured but it will be Matip. Klopp likes his ability on the ball.}

1.) 06 Aug 2022 08:41:22
I think against a Fulham side we are expected to dominate possession I’d say matip is our best bet.

2.) 06 Aug 2022 09:31:32
Matip had a good season he should keep the place alongside Virgil and Gomez should be fighting to take it back. Anyways whoever starts we have 4 brilliant CBs.

3.) 06 Aug 2022 09:39:22
Gomez needs a run of games at first team level to get himself fully back up to speed and to his top quality self.

Unfortunately is he going to get a consecutive run of games if there’s no injuries as I actually see Matip starting today also?

If Klopp wants Gomez to be a starter this season then why not throw him in against Fulham on day 1. We’ve got a decent run of fixtures including Utd and Everton up until Chelsea in Sep. Could be a great run of games for him.

4.) 06 Aug 2022 10:15:37
Klopp must like Matip’s ability to mistime headers, be outmuscled by most, overrun the ball, leave holes in defence with his uncontrolled mazy runs, provide minimal cover to our most attacking wing back and throw himself into mistimed tackles exposing our defence with his lack of recovery pace. Gomez and VVD were amazing when we won the league and need to be together again.

5.) 06 Aug 2022 10:35:44
We should take this opportunity to give Gomez some minutes and get him back up to speed.

6.) 06 Aug 2022 10:35:44
We should take this opportunity to give Gomez some minutes and get him back up to speed.

7.) 06 Aug 2022 10:48:50
Cmon lads, get your priorities right?
There’s a nail-biting Womens pairs lawn bowls final on, England v Australia, and it’s going down to the wire.

8.) 06 Aug 2022 11:27:58
Matip over Gomez for me any day. Gomez hasn't been in form in years and Maria has arguably been our best centre back. Not even a debate for me on this one. Gomez 4th choice when all fit.

9.) 06 Aug 2022 12:27:13
I love Maria.

10.) 06 Aug 2022 13:25:54
sell Matip and Konate so Gomez can move from 4th to 2nd choice cb.

11.) 06 Aug 2022 15:47:03
Maria, you got to see her.

12.) 06 Aug 2022 18:20:40
Is Matip the new whipping boy?

17 Jun 2022 18:59:15
Edd001 how much longer do you think robertson (28) and van dijk (31)can play at this level for the club? Robertson has a more taxing role and van dijk is on the other side of 30 now. Do you see them both performing at this level for more than 2 years?

{Ed001's Note - 2 easily, should still have 3 or 4 more years left.}

1.) 17 Jun 2022 19:59:03
I'm with Ed. I think 4 for Robbo and 6 for Virgil.

If Thiago Silva can do it at 37 so can Virgil. Robbo's role in our system is intense though and unless he is a freak of nature, he'll start to drop off in his 30's. Or at least need his game time managed.

2.) 17 Jun 2022 22:36:53
Think it's easy for VVD to play another 5 yrs then Robbo.

Mk mate can't see Thiago silva surviving in our system at that age. He will be like fish out of water lol.

3.) 17 Jun 2022 23:00:09
Players are playing longer than ever, also to a higher standard than ever before. I wouldn't start worrying about it pre-emptively until they're about 34.

4.) 17 Jun 2022 20:03:03
Èd001 will robbo go down as Liverpools greatest left back for you if he gives another few years at this level of performance? I love the bones of him. Inspiration and a brilliant lad.

{Ed001's Note - probably. It is the position in a Liverpool greats XI that is weakest I would say, which certainly helps his chances.}

5.) 18 Jun 2022 01:45:24
How good was Nicol Ed? Didn't he win player of the year from that position, and was quite prolific to boot?

{Ed001's Note - Nicol was incredible but he was better on the right, he usually gets shoehorned on the left because the options are not so good. But in reality he was one of the best right-backs of all time, it just gets forgotten because he was so good everywhere he played. Which is so different to Lawrenson, who played all over the pitch brilliantly for us but people only remember him as a centre-back alongside Hansen. Even though he spent more time playing other positions for us than he did there. Not sure why that is.}

6.) 18 Jun 2022 07:30:31
Robbo can definitely play at his current level for another couple of years. VVD I think is on such another level that even if he decline in the next couple of years he will still be our best defender by some distance for a few years after that. I can see him becoming like Kompany was for City and playing at the highest level until he is 35-36.

7.) 18 Jun 2022 08:18:24
Lawrenson was a better left back than Robertson; even though he wasn't a left back. He was also a very good midfielder. He was superb and one of my favourite players of all time.

8.) 18 Jun 2022 09:52:35
Totally agree about Lawrenson. Absolutely brilliant player, one of the best to ever play for our club.
Btw, it’s probably just me, but does anyone else think Joe missed a trick not putting Lawro in the Souness role for season 84/ 85?

9.) 18 Jun 2022 11:35:38
Bloody hell! I thought we only wrote people off at 30. How many years does a 28 year old have left in the tank at full back? Geeeeeez!

10.) 18 Jun 2022 12:15:04
Topofthekops, Don’t worry cos soon, they’ll start writing players off at 25 at the rate this is going.

11.) 18 Jun 2022 12:45:18
Interesting call, Tricky.
We missed Souness massively and a very young Jan Molby wasn't ready at the start of the season.
I actually enjoyed the start of that season because I was going to Anfield not knowing that we were going to win!

12.) 18 Jun 2022 16:16:37
Cheers Rigsby. Just my opinion - with the benefit of hindsight as well, obviously. And more an appreciation of Lawro than a dig at Joe or any of the lads who played in centre midfield that season.
I still say that as good as the Bitters were in 84/ 85, if Souness stays and has a full season in midfield with John Wark, we win the league that year by a country mile.
If’s and buts tho.

17 Jun 2022 17:59:49
I think if carvalho and Elliott show anything of which is expected from them next season I see no reason at all to pursue bellingham next summer.
Elliot looked stellar before his injury, looking very special, carvalho looks very exciting aswell. Rice would be far more suited buy obviously price and other clubs interest makes that difficult . For me if those two have very good seasons I can't see any reason to pursue a very expensive bellingham.

1.) 17 Jun 2022 18:40:58
Well if they end up brilliant why not add another, let's face even better player to compliment them? We should be, like every club trying to sign as many top players as is possible. let's face it if Bellingham becomes the player people expect (and at 18 he's already very very good) then a few years ago we would have had no chance of getting him, now we do and if a deal is possible next summer we should go for it. Another piece of Klopps next great team. We can't expect to get all our future players for the bargains we've picked Elliott, Carvalho, Ramsey and Gordon for.

2.) 17 Jun 2022 18:44:13
This isn’t a knock on Elliot as I really hope that all the talk about Elliot and his potential he fulfils but the question I have to ask is in the 2 and a half games he played in midfield last season before his injury against Burnley, Chelsea and Leeds what did he do that made him look so stellar. I’ve even seen quotes that he’s a future Balon D’or winner.

Like I said it’s not me knocking the lad but more to protect him. As I think we are putting far too much pressure on the kid as fans to be putting him on this pedestal after 243 minutes of Premier league football in midfield.

3.) 17 Jun 2022 19:19:24
Bellingham is a number 8. We need a number 6. Why can’t people get this? Bissouma would have done a proper job.

4.) 17 Jun 2022 19:22:13
I don’t believe in this whole Bellingham signing this summer stuff. We need cover for Fab and hopefully, we can get it done. I heard Paul Joyce has also said that no midfielder is coming in this summer so can someone confirm or disprove this?

5.) 17 Jun 2022 19:27:05
It’s time to leave the planet. I am in agreement with Oli for the first time since 2012 ???. We need a cover for Fabinho. YES we need.

6.) 17 Jun 2022 19:28:42
JK I get what you mean. He hasn’t set the world alight by any means. But I think where most people are coming from, myself included, is that it is by no means normal that an 18 year old comes into the first team of a top end premier league club, let alone one of the best teams in the world at present, on a consistent basis and at looks completely at home, not fazed in the slightest, playing confidently to the extent where fans hope to see more of him and at ease when seeing his name on the team sheet, something I cannot say for the like of Naby for example. Is he a super wonder kid like Neymar was? No of course not, but it isn’t normal and it raises expectations. A lot of midfielders in the premier league play like he does when they hit their peak in their late 20’s. Elliot is 10 years off that so if he carries on developing the hopebwould he we have something very special there. Despite what some on here say about Jones I count him in that same bracket and hope I can with Carvalho as well. If it all goes well our midfield could be sorted for the next 10-15 years.

7.) 17 Jun 2022 19:41:35
Apart from taa- Elliot might well become one of the very very few English players in quite a time to live up to the hype. Let’s hope he continues to improve and not plateau way too young. Personally I believe both will become incredible players for the club.

8.) 17 Jun 2022 21:59:18
Got to agree with you JK. I’m never really understood some of the comments either. Undoubtedly he has talent and potential but showcasing that on a regular basis is another thing. Hopefully he does it but I’m still personally not expecting too much from him for a couple seasons in which time hopefully he’s grown into his potential. Hope I’m wrong!

Afternoon edd002, I was just wondering is any club pushing through a move for sangare. I know clubs are interested but is anyone actually in negotiations. Thanks soo much.

{Ed002's Note - Ibrahim Sangare (DM) Newcastle are keen on the player and the interest of both Leicester and Southampton remains. The player has said that he does not wish to return to France and wants a move to England, but perhaps not this summer. Has been watched by a number of other PL sides including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea who sent an ex-player to take a look at him with two scouts. An approach from Aston Villa has been rehected. PSV have no intention of selling and will work hard to avoid a sale.}

Ed014 I think var is c0rr*pt. I've seen many goals ruled "offside" and thought it's amazing how lines suddenly bend. Also those big decisions that go in certain teams favour. Yes we all get one or two you think we've got away with one there but that penalty not given for everton against City was blatant corruption.

Ed001. I just think trent is like a gerrard. I see him eventually getting thr armband and This is his home and I think atleast under klopp we'll always be competitive so I can't see him leaving, until his late twenties anyways if he wants a new challenge.
