I really don’t know what going to become of the club. 120mill predicted loss with payments coming up for jota and Thiago. I can’t see the club paying big money to improve the squad.

Lfc is not C.V. proof like city, Chelsea and psg . even United will struggle. These teams will continue to get bigger and stronger with help coming from Uefa with its pointless FFP.

The only way out was the super league. To keep the club relevant and challenging for titles. I personally don’t give a damn about it being a closed shop tournament as long the club can be successful no matter the tournament and sustaining itself throughout its existence.

So for those of you who wanted the super league to fail, it’s time to take your blinkers off.

I hope the club can knock some sense into the Spirit of Shankly reps.

Same fellas crying we want signings and don’t raise ticket prices! Apart from inflation and players wages and wanting the best people would need to wake up.

2.) 29 Apr 2021 19:12:12
If you want sustained success money has to be spent. You can have one offs for a season but you need to pay if you want that success season upon season. Love listening to the hypocrites cry about prices and then about performances and missing out on targets.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs need to be self-sustaining.}

3.) 29 Apr 2021 19:14:14
Cant help but feel klopp brought success without spending the sums city did.

Have a little faith we still have a squad that went to a champions league final, then won it then won the league.

Needs some additions and some smart business but the spine/ core is still there.

4.) 29 Apr 2021 19:21:04
Most clubs will have to tighten the belt remember. It’s not just us that have been hit hard.

5.) 29 Apr 2021 19:46:02
I've joined Spirit of Shankly. Liverpool should have fan representation on the board, every club should.

6.) 29 Apr 2021 19:54:08
Look at it like this 18 months ago Harry Kane would have cost 180 mill Salah would have been worth the same in today’s market maybe 80 million so what clubs have lost will make up in a depressed market.

7.) 29 Apr 2021 21:05:36
We Should’ve spent money on Jan 1st on a couple of CB’s.
We didn’t and now still need a couple of CB’s but without Champions League.

8.) 29 Apr 2021 21:07:38
Unsurprisingly the other 14 PL clubs have demanded heads to roll, and Liverpool’s Tom Werner has lost his place.
From the outside it certainly feels like that division between the two camps, if I can term it that way, has only deepened.

I speak as a Liverpool fan, obviously, but I find the position of the other 14 clubs to be rather negative, like much of their football, and lacking a vision for the future other than maintaining their status quo.

If these clubs approached their football like Leeds Utd have done, I’d feel a lot more positive towards them.
I don’t want the PL to fold but a lot of its football is rubbish and negative, the dreaded low block.

9.) 29 Apr 2021 22:23:55
Spot on mate, I'm fully against the so called superleague but I'm glad I'm not the only one who can see the wat football is going .

Allardyce is the worst calling for point deduction, doesn't care about the game only his own self interest.

10.) 29 Apr 2021 22:44:21
Any point deduction is surely self defeating as it would only increase the desire of the rogue six to turn their backs on the PL. what has been done as punishment is, I think, purely symbolic.

11.) 29 Apr 2021 22:47:29
Sam allardyce talking about greed. wow😂.

12.) 29 Apr 2021 23:17:25
Totally agree Eds 002 about self sustainability! The money needs to come from somewhere if the supporters want those big name signings (VVD, Alisson, Fabs ect) same people who cry about missing out on targets are the ones who complain about everything to do with club pricing. Can't have it both ways.

13.) 30 Apr 2021 06:13:10
It’s times like these you get to see what fans are really made of. All fans want success but some actually love the club and what it stands for, others are just in it for the success and would jump ship if the club ever got in serious trouble.

{Ed001's Note - agreed, all I am reading is a bunch of self-serving hypocrites criticising others for being self-serving hypocrites. It is quite sad to read the gloryhunters try and justify their selfish attitudes.}

14.) 30 Apr 2021 06:47:47
Wow this is some thread. Its time big clubs started producing talents from academy and improving academy. It has always been the only way to be self sustainable. Only chelsea and to some extent city have been producing players from academy.
We have had just trent in the last 15 years as a player who has a first team position from the academy. Jones doesn't get his chances.

There was also someone saying klopp hasn't spent and got success. You need to take the red glasses off mate.

All this esl and uefa and whatnot but nobody still mentions the root cause for decay in football. Kids from liverpool and around can't play for liverpool cuz liverpool will always buy someone better than work on these kids and make them best.
Solve that and you have your football back.
Football is for the people my arse.

15.) 30 Apr 2021 08:01:52
I'm fine if we don't spend, but also some of our best players were bought for smaller fees. Robertson, Gomez, Trent, milner, matip (when fit) Jones (performed as well as any other mid this season and will get better) .

To be honest if we have to finish mid table for the club to shake off negative idiotic "fans" then I'll happily watch us fight it out with Everton for 9th next year.

16.) 30 Apr 2021 08:34:36
100% Jesuschristalmighty. The price of any success is a new breed of "fan" who is never satisfied. We've got a good few of them in our ranks and some of them frequently post their opinions on here. They are easily spotted as their posts usually start with "I don't want" or "I'm not accepting injuries as an excuse" etc.

17.) 30 Apr 2021 09:06:29
LiverpoolFC08, yeah we should have cos clearly that is how it works in your own world. This is not ordering your fav meal on Uber Eats or signing your fav player on FIFA Manager. In the real world, things are a lot more complicated esp. with money being tight BUT go ahead and have a right moan cos well, that seems to be all people have these days cos everyone seems to be an expert after the fact.

Oh and would doing that have prevented our forwards from being as dreadful as they have been in front of goal which has killed us just as much as our defensive injuries? I'll wait.

18.) 30 Apr 2021 09:16:17
Spot on Thunderbird 2 and Ed01. The whining and whinging on here smacks of absolute childish petulance and glory hunting. The fans want FSG out and want owners to come in and splash the cash with near reckless abandon YET they want to be able to tell these same owners what to do with their money. I mean, what type of foolishness is that?

Also, fans were all in with the team and Klopp when things were going great. Now when things have gotten tougher, the knives are out and we now know who the real fans. I am not here to try to be the club's no. 1 fan as that is just nonsense. Now we are seeing what everyone is really in it for when they say they support the club.

Oh and btw, Big Sam talking about how greed is bad in football, is like the pig giving the rest of us a lecture on cleanliness.

{Ed001's Note - pigs are actually very clean animals. They only wallow in mud because they are prone to sunburn and it protects their skin.}

19.) 30 Apr 2021 09:57:34
We want mbappe, konate, messi, neymar and our reserves are looking a bit bare maybe ibrahimovic, lukaku and varane because phillips and davies are too good for the reserves or the owners must go!

20.) 30 Apr 2021 10:21:23
Yes Jurgen2020 but don't dare try to raise ticket prices to give us what we want.

21.) 30 Apr 2021 10:51:12
It's all well and good saying 'they should use the academy' etc. So how about this. LFC take the moral high ground (for a change) and don't spend large sums improving the squad. Instead, they push the academy, they don't invest in it, because that involves spending large sums. They then do these over 5-10 years as the academy is a long term goal, it won't produce instant results. Meanwhile, in that time, other clubs haven't taken this route and continue to spend large sums winning trophies and adding world class players to their squads. As this is happening, LFC are praying that from the hundreds, if not thousands of kids, in the academy, we get one world class youngster come through. He then has to develop and progress. Anyway, bit of a drastic example I know, but my point is, you cannot moan about how LFC should do this and do that unless every other team in the league is on board, otherwise you just get leagues like in Spain, Germany and France where one or two teams dominate every single year, bar the odd year where they are transitioning new world class players into their squads.
The only realistic way to do this is by having caps on salaries and agents fees to create a fair market, but we know that will never happen.
Also, I hate this 'they aren't real fans' nonsense because people have a different opinion or don't live locally to the club. Being a member of some supporters group doesn't entitle you any more than some die hard fan in Thailand or India or wherever. I have supported this club for 33 years and my whole family are from Liverpool and are either blues or reds. Admittedly, I have somewhat fallen out of love slightly with the game the last 5-10 years due to the nonsensical amounts of money involved, but I don't consider myself more of a fan than any other liverpool and I don't supporter and I certainly don't appreciate anyone else telling me my opinion isn't valid because of this or that.
Also, good pig info Ed, they are also extremely smart and social animals!

22.) 30 Apr 2021 11:08:24
My Bad, Ed01. Playing to the stereotype, I guess, lol.

Jurgen2020, you are too right. It's a joke ting. As P Diddy used to say in his pomp, "If you ain't writing checks then, shut up cos you can't tell me s-word".

{Ed001's Note - P-Diddy in his pomp? Now he was the s-word and not in a good way. Typical of the way the world has gone when utter bell ends like that and his greed is good mantra are held up as an icon.}

23.) 30 Apr 2021 11:11:10
Noway Mane Mane how very dare they try to make extra money to fund what we want!

We want an owner that will spend billions but we don't want to be like city or chelsea lol.

{Ed001's Note - speak for yourself, this kind of snide petty digs is childish and just stops threads from going anywhere. FSG are not gifting money and never have. Every penny they have invested was to make themselves more money and that is all anyone has ever asked them to do. No one wants them to gift money. By the same token, it should not be down to match going fan to pay extra, just so they can increase their profit. If only you snide lot digging out other fans would actually stop and use your brain you would realise that you are supporting multi-millionaires fleecing the poor. What is wrong with you?}

24.) 30 Apr 2021 11:12:06
Stuie - except that's not actually correct is it? When you make proper use of an academy, taking a lot of care on personal development of players and making the best out them (including coordinated, planned loans that augments rather than replaces parent club development etc) then you might well get a world class player here and there to lead you to titles. But more importantly, you can buy those world class players because you a) can fill the secondary roles with people who didn't cost 30m each to be average squad members and b) have a constant supply of players able to provide a consistent profit - not hundreds of millions for sure, but 3-5 academy players selling for 10m every summer is a significant financial boost to any club.

We've got to leave this mindset of 'the only way to compete is to go toe to toe with what whoever won last year is doing'. It's crazy, and more importantly it isn't sustainable. There are other ways to produce a club capable to sustaining itself and winning - perhaps not every year but consistently. If your quest if for perfection, you'll die never realising you had already found excellent.

{Ed001's Note - excellent post.}

25.) 30 Apr 2021 11:24:32
Whats wrong with me Ed01? More like what's wrong with you. Can people not have a laugh anymore? Wise up.

{Ed001's Note - you weren't funny, you were making snide digs. Not me who needs to wise up. It wasn't funny or clever the first time you posted this kind of nonsense, it doesn't get any funnier or more clever by repetition.}

26.) 30 Apr 2021 13:06:42
Hjikle - I agree, I did mention it was a very extreme analogy, I was using it more to strengthen my argument that salary caps etc will be the only true way to curb the huge surge in transfer fees and wages. The point is, clubs are doing that, Southampton have an excellent academy and constantly churn out players but look at their progress over the last few years. When was the last time one of the top 6 clubs produced several youngsters like what use to happen in the 90's? Even Chelsea with there strong youth set up just seem to buy all the time. Until real FFP regulations come in that monitor agent fees, salaries and the like comes in, no club will change because they are afraid of being left behind.
Despite what everyone believes, the only way liverpool did compete was by spending vast sums. Yes, we didn't buy a whole squad like City, but we spent fortunes, regardless of where the money came from, on a first 11 and that is now showing this season where Klopp has been forced to go beyond the first team.

27.) 30 Apr 2021 13:13:45
hijkle, I’d also add to that we need to be more ruthless when deciding when to move players and also more flexible on our prices, for example we probably should have taken the £12m from Burnley for Wilson as there’s not much chance of seeing an offer like that again.

Hopeful Elliott is going to save us a fortune (without putting pressure on him) as he looks the real deal and I’m not sure comparing Foden with Curtis Jones is helpful as to me they’re different kinds of players. Jones deserves a chance to prove himself.

I still think that we’re missing a trick by not trying TAA in midfield as I think he could be a brilliant midfielder with the experience he’s picked up defensively playing at right back and with his range of passing and shooting, I genuinely think he could be our answer to De Bruyne or Penandes and I’m unshaken in that belief. So there are answers in the squad.

I’m genuinely worried about how much in debt we are though and that not being in the champions league just makes that worse with a sharp drop in income, even just one year out could be catastrophic given how tight our margins are. I think we can all agree that this has been an awful season and the sooner it’s gone the better.

28.) 30 Apr 2021 14:54:31
Ed01, I am not holding up P Diddy as some icon or whatever. Far from it. All billionaires are pretty greedy. It is the nature of the beast even tho, some are more outrageous with their greed than others.

What I am saying is that IMO, if fans really want owners to spend money with reckless abandon (as in, writing checks) then they should never think they are in any position to dictate what the checks are written for. That was my point.

29.) 30 Apr 2021 14:59:52
Hijkle, I fully agree with you as well. It seems people always look at our success from the prism of what City or Chelsea or Utd win or don't win. That is a recipe for frustration and mental disaster. We have succeeded under FSG by actually NOT caring what these teams do. We did it the FSG and Klopp way. No one can deny that nor dispute that. And if we win things moving forward under FSG and Klopp, it will be their way, not any other club's way.

Klopp was the perfect manager to bring in for FSG's business model to work. City have a seemingly bottomless pit of money to work with. The fact that FSG and Klopp achieved all they achieved within 5 years and on the amount of money that Pep outspent by 300m (800m vs 500m), is near a miracle under the circumstances. They should be commended for that alone. Now for the other rubbish FSG have done, they should be slated for that as well.

30.) 30 Apr 2021 15:30:27
6Times regarding TAA in midfield, have you ever asked yourself the reasons why Klopp who discovered TAA as an attacking midfielder, played him at RB? Have you asked yourself what Klopp looked at in TAA's game or physical attributes and decided against playing him in the energy-sapping midfield he wanted deployed and thought his immense talent would be better suited as a creator from deep?

Remember, Gini, Hendo and Can are physical and athletic beasts that can cover immense amount of ground. Could it be that TAA lacks that ability or physical attribute? These are the things you need to consider. Oh and one last thing, Trent IS our answer to KDB. He just plays RB. Peace and Love.

31.) 30 Apr 2021 19:08:24
Exactly hjickle. That is only proven way to be sustainable. Work on academies. And we soon will be doing that. The model is timeless
Chelsea are doing it. Wenger did it. Its very doable but not instant. The number of kids who were supposed to be the next big thing and went kaput at liverpool in last 15 years is unreal. No one and i mean no bar trent has really made it to our squad. Very rarely has a player from our academy left us and lit the world on fire just maybe suso. Its a stat that stares you right in the face. It is very clear we don't develop footballers we buy them and there will come a time when we won't be able to buy anymore very soon.

Hi Eds,
When or will it be ever be classified as criminal if a player intentionally breaks an opponents leg in a tackle. Can the police get involved or there's a law that protects the perpetrator. Thanks.

DSR

{Ed033's Note - How does a 'Reasonable Person' know Intent, 'Beyond Reasonable Doubt'?

1.) 23 Feb 2021 13:31:32
So nothing else can be done except match banning? If so is that maximum of 4 matches.

2.) 23 Feb 2021 19:46:08
Off the top of my head - when you then write an autobiography that states that you 'absolutely wanted to hurt the *****'? I'm no lawyer but if definitely suggest that was some proof of both predemitation and intent.

3.) 24 Feb 2021 01:13:22
I remember there was a case in, I think Belgium, where one player snapped right through the shin of another (horrible to watch I do not recommend) and he was charged by police. It’s rare but there are cases.

Matip and Gomez won’t last the season …that’s guaranteed. Phillips around would mean more weekly wages for FSG to pay …happy with that.

So Ed 666, it’s ok to get CB and not replace Gini who played in like 35 games. Who’s the naive one.

{Ed0666's Note - are you a wackadoo? We’ve got more midfielders than Jack Wilshere has crutches. They can between them Cover the games Gini played.
