Well that was difficult to take (that lot! ) . Actually, I thought it was a much better performance than recent ones and we could / should have won.

It would be all too easy to critique individual errors or performances (Williams had a mare again, and Gini just adds little and slows everything down - he made Pogba look pretty good ), but come on, the ref tonight was an absolute disgrace. Is he Mark Clatenburg in disguise. Shocking!

Oh, by the way - Put your hands in yer pockets FSG and buy a central defender. No way we're going to go far in CL without one, let alone defend PL title

Rant over.

1.) 24 Jan 2021 19:06:36
Williams is the worst player to ever play for the football club.

2.) 24 Jan 2021 19:14:40
He’s a young lad learning his trade.

3.) 24 Jan 2021 19:22:26
Allison made plenty of mistakes as well.

4.) 24 Jan 2021 19:22:33
I think every problem stems from a weak back line
They are doing their best
Yes the level has gone down but u can see
How much of an impact solid defenders can have
It makes the whole team run far more efficiently

I think Liverpool will definitely be a different animal with fresh centre backs back again

But unfortunately - we might go through more stress watching for the remainder of the season. remember Man City last season an pep? Maybe this is lfc turn but it’s temporary.

5.) 24 Jan 2021 19:22:46
VIRG,

He is a kid. Chill out

Matt in FL.

6.) 24 Jan 2021 19:24:06
Almost feel like not watching anymore this season as centre half injuries are creating issues all over the pitch. If ever there was a time to spend PL and CL prize money on a non CL team centre half like Ben White, it is now.

7.) 24 Jan 2021 19:24:32
He is Reusch, and I hate it when someone comes out with the "worst player ever" line, but he is costing us games. That said, questions have to go to Klopp and not Williams. I'm sure Williams is doing all he can.

8.) 24 Jan 2021 19:25:37
Can’t blame the kid anyway. He’s clearly doing his best. Klopp should take the blame for playing him.

9.) 24 Jan 2021 19:25:53
He may be a young lad learning his trade but he’s 19 and making errors you expect a 13 year old to make on the local playing fields. I don’t blame him, he’s clearly trying he’s just not good enough to even play in the top 3 divisions at the moment. I blame Klopp solely for persisting with him.

10.) 24 Jan 2021 19:37:22
Reusch Your exactly right mate he is young learning his trade exactly why he shouldn’t be near the 1st team and should be out on loan making his mistakes and learning from them else where!

11.) 24 Jan 2021 19:45:17
TBH, I hate slagging off our players but I think it’s obvious to all of us that Williams is never going to be a regular CB at a title winning club. He’s obviously got something going for him or he wouldn’t be at the club but I just don’t see it.

I think we need to see more of Phillips as at least he has played at a higher level although realistically I’d like to see us buy someone but a) I know funds are tight and b) any club we approach will know we are desperate and the price will increase.

I’m a bit surprised with FSG being ‘happy’ to see us fall back so far as that affects the value of their investment but I’m also conscious of what happens if clubs live outside their means for too long. it’s a conundrum!

12.) 24 Jan 2021 19:46:37
Williams is clearly out of his depth. Its very obvious in every game he has played. I would liked to have seen Philip’s on instead but what do i know.

13.) 24 Jan 2021 19:49:51
Virg, what an abs moronic statement, he's a 18 old kid being thrown in because we've an injury crisis, be sure to go on social media and give the young lad dogs abuse, how do we have so many idiot fans.

14.) 24 Jan 2021 19:55:14
Why just blame a kid, Allison mistake on the free kick was poor.

15.) 24 Jan 2021 19:29:49
BigVirg. He lacks pace, positional awareness and makes basic errors but he is young and it’s not his fault he is being played. I get your frustrations but to make a blanket statement like that serves no purpose. At the start of the season I wanted us to try and win The FA Cup but right now we need to concentrate on picking up points in the league.

16.) 24 Jan 2021 19:29:58
Ryhs is too slow. He won't get any quicker.

17.) 24 Jan 2021 19:29:59
It was VAR. It was the Ref. It’s because Liverpool miss their fans more than other teams. It’s because we have to use our squad when we usually we field the same team.
Nope. Thursday will be the same. Tools. Downed.

18.) 24 Jan 2021 20:01:00
Totally agree lfc8 Thursday will be the same, it's clear to see the players are not playing for Klopp at the minute.

19.) 24 Jan 2021 21:01:40
Only an idiot tries the same things over and over and expects a different result. The problem is when Klopp makes changes they are the same changes. Is he doing it deliberately to get FSG to cough up money the club don’t have? Or has he run out of ideas? Phillips got MOTM against Atalanta and dropped next game, Minamino got MOTM against Palace and dropped next game. What is that all about?

20.) 24 Jan 2021 21:32:11
I don’t know about tools downed but there are some tools on here.

Good god.

21.) 24 Jan 2021 23:26:26
Why pick on a young, inexperienced cb - surely it's some of the established "stars" who need to be called to task. Roberto Firmino has done sweet f**k all for Liverpool for at least a year. He has to be put under pressure by Jota and dropped by Klopp several times to get his head right. He scored 2 goals in a game that we eould have won, with or without him - big deal. He was genuinely good today apart from a few bad touches. It is surely the responsibility of the senior players to help the likes of Rhys Williams and protect them and support them on and off the pitch. Back off the kids if you ever want any kids to develop within the club and move up to the 1st team.

{Ed0666's Note - I truly feel sorry for the kid. He’s not ready and maybe never will will be. I hope for his sake he gets hooked.

22.) 24 Jan 2021 23:39:32
Tools and Fools,
yes R Williams should not be anywhere near the first team, but once he is picked to play, we should at least try and back him, Kloppy, picked him, and with Rashford to stop, it was always a tough ask .
Kloppy should be asked why this major slump,
not replacing Lovren was a huge risk, that will always be remembered .
still once VVD is back, I expect us to be back to normal very soon .

{Ed0666's Note - You really need to get off Klopps back and get back to Planet reality. Klopp tried to replace Lovren with Diego Carlos and he’s ‘strongly recommended’ for us to bring in a CB in January but his pleas have been rebuffed by FSG AKA FRUGAL SPORTS GROUP.

Well, you said it would be an odd season Ed1, you weren’t wrong.

Im just a bit shell shocked to be fair! We just weren’t up for that one bit. To say abject would be bing kind. looking forward to your match review (as Always)

Devon Reds

{Ed001's Note - I am not looking forward to writing it!}

1.) 04 Oct 2020 21:55:45
Seems to me that's what a high line looks like when the press is not at it.

Poor by Adrian on the opener and it set a bad tone.

Only really Robertson and salah come out with credit. Wijnaldum was OK. The rest very very poor. Jota for the amount of time he s been at the club was OK also.

2.) 04 Oct 2020 22:38:26
It was a ship show of epic proportions. As they say in the NFL after a complete battering, "Burn the tape. Take the L. Move on. "

3.) 04 Oct 2020 22:52:57
Agree. On to the next one. On a side note, glad some on here are not running the club. The panic selling and buying tomorrow would be nuts 😊

To solution is simple, play better next time.

I know it’s part of the likely evolution / restructure for Football in England, but sad to hear Wigan have gone into administration. And just to lighten that blow, the EFL hit them with an immediate points deduction. I know this is pretty much what Ed02 has said would happen (and no one should questions the mans insight, after all he did say we’d win the title last Thursday! The mans a psychic! ), but it is a depressing state of affairs isn’t it, more will follow soon I suspect. Sad times.

So here we are in January (January! ) 13 points clear, with 2 games in hand over Citeh. I'm lucky enough to have supported LFC through the late 70s and 80s when it was almost expected that we would win the league every 2 out of 3 t, but I can never remember any year quite like this one. We have been phenomenal😃

Biggest game of the season for me is tomorrow's fixture, always has been and if we win, any small doubt about us winning the league is gone. It's the one fixture I want to win above any other; tomorrow will be no different, obvs. But just as a bit of a win-win scenario, even if we do happen to lose, we always seemed to back in the 70s and 80s, yet still managed to win the league. c'mon for tomorrow red men, no 19 is almost safely in the bag😃.

Devon Reds

1.) 18 Jan 2020 21:44:42
Every year, regardless of situation, this is one game we want to win. Nothing worse then a smug manc! But whatever the result we have built an incredible foundation and we need to trust the boys to continue to build on it. There will be knocks, hopefully not tomorrow, but I have faith in these boys to just keep on going.

2.) 19 Jan 2020 14:07:27
Ain't scared of nothing or anybody anymore and that is thanks to this team and the courage and bravery to show each game, trying to win it even tho they know it is possible they can lose. There is no more bravery than that, IMO. As a result, I'm never worried about our boys cos I know they will do their best every time. They are fearless and that fearlessness has been instilled in me as well. Let's Rock Anfield Today!

Hi all’

It’s been ages since I’ve posted on the site, but check it most days (love this site, especially the insights from Ed2 and the banter from Ed25) I’d love Bellingham to join, but if he doesn’t, which looks quite probable, there are many very good midfielders out there that would improve us no end. Ed2 Will no doubt share a list of alternatives at some stage.

I have to disagree with you Ed25, it will be Bellingham who ultimately decides, not Dortmund, he’s not obliged to go anywhere if that is his choice, he could stay until his contract runs out and go wherever he want. I’m not saying that will happen, but surely he has the final say?

Love the site guys. Stay safe down there Ed2.

Devon Reds

{Ed002's Note - He won't be running down his contract. I have already mentioned some potential alternatives to Bellingham and there are others being looked at aswell (more DM and more AM) but they may depend on departures such as Fabinho. These players include the likes of Varela, Florention, Neves, Khephren Thuram, Nunes, Rabiot, Susic, Bennacer, Mac Allisterand there may still be interest in Zielinski and Milinkovic-Savic. There could be interest in the likes of Kudo and Mount.}

Who do we need to write the letter to ed2😉 I’ll do it! I saw enough in 2 games to make me think he’s good enough.

It’s best not to worry too much about what other teams are doing. So Citeh will continue to buy and they will likely be a lot closer next year. Chelsea appear to be doing some tidy business, even though it’s there defence that needs an overhaul. Man U will no doubt spaff a fortune on who knows who, but they will still have the most unconvincing manager around. I honestly think we have got a bit of a winning formula right now, right through the club and I’d rather have that then a shed load of dosh to spend, which won’t guarantee success (we should now that all too well) . Only time will tell, but right now just keep on enjoying where we are right now, Champions!

Have to agree with Ed001 in that plans to start a new season shouldn’t be before this one is complete, whenever that might be. I know there are far more considerations than I could possibly understand, but football should and will need to be flexible. Coronavirus is likely to be with us for quite some time and personally I can’t see next season starting on time either. I really don’t understand the necessity to draw a line?

Stay safe all🤞.

The clearance from Son late on in the final epitomised Virgil for me. Anyone else and Son would have been in on goal. Best defender in the world right now, bar none👍.

I was going to ask Ed001s opinion on Philips. My father thinks he’s world class, but I just don’t see anything special. In one of the Euro knockout games (can’t remember which one) I thought he was really poor, and the game passed him by. If your around Ed001 grateful for your thoughts. I’m happy to be put right if I’m being too harsh?

Devon Reds

{Ed001's Note - I am guessing you mean Kalvin? I like him, not convinced he is world class, but he is a very good playmaker. He plays deep for Leeds as it is about putting him in a position to launch quick counters, but for England it is under the clueless waistcoated one and so defensive. He is not a defensive midfielder. He is a playmaker and has a very good range of passing and the vision to match.}

Thanks Ed,

Sounds like there may well end up with more than one of these breakaway groups in the end? in 15 years time we’ll all be settling down to watch the European ‘Super Bowl’ where the winners of each league compete after playoffs/ wildcards including live entertainment after each innings/ quarter/ face off.

Sounds a bit like the champions league but with more prize money.

Devon Reds

{Ed002's Note - No I don't think that will be possible.}

Hi Ed2 question if I may? I know I have asked you before about the “elite” groups, that doesn’t include Liverpool, And you were kind enough to say the term “elite” was something that they had called themselves, something along those lines. But does this group include any of the 12 clubs that have signed up to this breakaway? If so, they seem to be hedging their bests a tad and, as you say, it inevitable that this, or something similar will happen at some stage. If it is a completely different group of “elite” clubs then the the term is a bold one to call yourself?

Fascinating future for football whatever side of the fence you are on? I’m a bit of a traditionalist but sometimes change is for the best (especially in business) look what the EPL as a brand did for the game. Mostly positive.

Anyway Great insights as always. I don’t read the papers anymore. Everything you need to know (worth knowing) is right here! 😃 great work Ed’s (even Ed 77 seems okay 😉)

Devon Reds

{Ed002's Note - It includes most of the clubs and they will be meeting at the request of one of the sides this week. I was wondering if there might be some no shows. It is not so much to do with "hedging their bets", it is getting behind a proposal that remains incomplete. There have been other proposals (Stephen Ross, Dalian Wanda Group, expanded Club World Cup etc.) and the "elite" clubs do not simply discuss the "breakaway", but a whole host of other stuff aswell.}
