@WDW Also, Gakpo plays in a team against which almost all teams sit back and stay compact. Not to mention the fact that other wide player in Liverpools side is Mo. Liverpool is certainly playing more through Mo than Gakpo, as Newcastle is playing more through Gordon than Murphy.
It is logical that Gordon has more progressive carries and progressive passes if he often has more of the ball and more space in front of him. Gakpo more often has to stop dribbling and pass back to the left back or midfielder because the simply isn't any space to exploit. Stats would most certainly look different if Gordon was playing for Liverpool and Gakpo for Newcastle. This is why I don't like these comparisons.

What about Vlahovic? One year left on his contract. Worth a shout at 35 mil.

If only Trent leaves out of the three, most pressing concern in the next transfer window must be a deep-lying playmaker. Basically same as it was last summer. With Trent gone we are losing passing range and creativity from the deep.

Costa was a dirty, dirty player. The type of player who would deliberately elbow someone ten seconds after kick off. Don't think booking him in the tunnel before match would have helped. Glad he didn't sign for Liverpool.

Let me ignore the unwritten rule of not talking about money. I agree that it's a low wage for a player of Konates calibre, but what if he has a 25k first team appearance fee and another 30k for a clean sheet. Let's say that in one week there is a league game and a Champions league game and Konate plays in both. That is 125k plus possible 60k in clean sheets. How about Liverpool offers a new contract: 125k base wage, 45k appearance free, and 50k clean sheet. Would this basic wage bump and performance based structure be fair?
On the other hand, Alaba hasn't played for a year and a half and has been sitting on reported 365k per week. Hazard had a couple of years of collecting reported 510k per week without even breaking a sweat.
Remember when Bale came in from the bench to score that worldie in the Champions league final? Well, that season he was basically an impact player for Real and on 450k base wage. That was in 2017/ 18! Who can finance those kind of salaries?

And how was our 2023/ 24 transfer window? We did a complete midfield overhaul and a year latter we finished third and everybody was asking for a new DM. Idea of having Gravenberch as a lone DM and winning the title was a pipe dream as he just isn't a DM and is not good enough anyway.
City can hardly be worst then they were last season. I think that Foden, Doku and Savinho will have much better seasons and that, along with the return of Rodri and transfers, will get City to around 85 pts.
Arsenal is a mystery to me.
Bottom line is that the people in the club are not under the impression that we are golden because we won the title.

Ed1 wasn't Marseille caught fixing a Ligue 1 match in 1993 when they won the European Cup?

EarlOfFrodsham

{Ed001's Note - the fixing had been going on for years mate.}

Players worked hard to win the title almost a month before the season end. They deserved to be on a lighter regime and to have their holiday. Also lots of them still have to play for their national teams which means that real holiday won't start until mid June.
Netherlands is playing WC qualifiers on June 7 and June 10.
England on June 7.
Brazil, Argentina and Columbia are playing on June 5/ 6 and again on June 10.
It is smart to let them have some time off.
