Anyone know of any plans to try and extend Klopps stay? His contract finishes 2024 but aside from him being the best in the world, isn't it easier to attract targets knowing Klopp will be there for more than a couple of seasons.

Grobs tash

{Ed002's Note - Not at this time.}

1.) 06 Nov 2021 19:28:25
The man has said he isn’t going to renew his contract, that he is going to take a year off and then look at his options (and he has mentioned retirement a couple of times. He might change his mind, and I’d love it if he did, but to be fair he sounds pretty determined on what he wants to do.

2.) 07 Nov 2021 04:05:37
I have a feeling he might stay on until he rebuild is complete (if it isn’t already by 2024), I think he’ll want to leave the club in as healthy position as possible before stepping down.

3.) 07 Nov 2021 11:09:02
Klopp has said repeatedly that he is leaving so I propose we take him at his word and plan accordingly.

16 Oct 2021 22:21:42
Would like to post a true dilemma

Salah. Pure amazing. A possible legend. But he does have a contract ending with demands above our level.
In the form of his life.
Sell at peak. Or leave for scraps? Feels like that's where we are. And I'd sell if it's near the value you'd expect £180m. (Kane apparently £150m and Grealish is at best half the player)
Hate to but feel it's best for club.

1.) 16 Oct 2021 22:27:19
Best player in the world. Consummate professional. Always fit. A truly once in a lifetime player so tie him down.

2.) 16 Oct 2021 23:02:04
Is his contract demands above our level or is he a level above everybody else and he deserves his higher contract? I think if he is willing to sign a reasonable increase then we should sign him up. I don't know the split between base salary and bonuses but without getting too complicated, £350k a week and yes please just give it to him. Fit as a fiddle, amazing player.

3.) 16 Oct 2021 23:09:29
I get the feeling watching him and post match he seems in a much better place and very content. If so long it last!

4.) 17 Oct 2021 00:20:36
Salah is a much more rounded player at 29 than he was at 25 when he arrived. He's fitter, he's stronger, and he's smarter on the pitch. And he wasn't bad when he arrived, was he? So he's improved from a very high level to an even higher one.

His fitness levels and his intelligence on the pitch suggest to me that he'll be able to do this until he's 34. Losing his pace won't damage him the same way it damages some forwards.

But even if he doesn't, let's say he starts going into a noticeable decline at 32. He won't, but let's say he will: Giving him a new deal still gets us 3 more years of Salah if that happens. That, imo, is worth an extra £150k+ a week, and the potential loss of a £100m+ transfer fee. He's that good.

So yeah. I'd go new deal, and I think that's what the club are going to do.

5.) 17 Oct 2021 02:42:47
350k a week for Salah? He’d be selling himself short. If Man Utd are prepared to offer 300k+ to Harry Maguire to go along with what they’re paying Sancho, Varane and De Gea, Salah is well within his rights to laugh such an offer out the room.

{Ed0666's Note - they’re offering pogba circa £400k allegedly. United pay well but where not miserly when it comes to put paper in a players bank account. We have the second or third biggest wage bill in the country. But Mo’s contract has to be settled delicately as some Liverpool players may have a parity clause in their contracts so clearly FSG don’t want that sceanario. Worst case scenario we get £150-200 for a player and can have a mini rebuild best case scenario we keep a generational talent. There can be nothing in between tho. Watch this space!!!

6.) 17 Oct 2021 03:28:58
Ed - we may have a large overall wage bill, but by all account it’s an incentivized one that should be significantly lower this year than last. At least that is what is banded around.
300k with bonuses as reported is, frankly, a derisory offer for Salah. If any player other than, at a large stretch, Virgil has a parity clause with the highest earner, the club have badly mismanaged things. Salah is the best player in the world and will command a premium salary that his teammates cannot, and they should accept that with understanding.
I also don’t believe we’d be getting 150-200m for Salah, though he’s absolutely worth that at the very least. He’d be 30 and going into the last year of his contract. I feel the only option is giving him Pogba/ De Bruyne money at the very least.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m pretty certain Virgil has a parity clause the way he celebrates Mo’s goals every week…he doesn’t let go of him and has a smile on his face like he’s just climaxed. I’m just speculating on the parity clause I have no idea if there are any but one thing I didn’t realize is that if he only has a this season and next to go on his contract maybe a £200 million fee is highly unlikely. My only concern would be would a 33 year old Salah still warrant such a high salary? After today’s performance and the previous ones this season you have to give him the contract and worry about that when he’s 32/33. After all Ronaldo was still putting in ridiculous stats at that age and that’s the level we’re talking.
I only realized today Salah has been playing for us for 5 seasons, time has just flown by. I hope he stays another 3 and shatters some more records.

7.) 17 Oct 2021 08:24:30
@Lowe you say 300k plus bonuses as reported is a derisory offer. Is that 300k GBP or EUR? Is this what the club has offered as well do you mean?

8.) 17 Oct 2021 08:27:51
300k a week plus bonuses is a derisory offer?
Strewth.
Almost as if Salah just couldn't live on that wage, how on earth would he cope?

9.) 17 Oct 2021 08:49:47
Sean - I have no idea what Liverpool have actually offered, my figure was plucked from an above comment. With what KDB has recently been given, I’d have thought Salah would be asking for at least that or more. GBP I guess.
But I would maintain that 300k a week is low-balling for a player of Salah’s proven game-changing quality.
Ed - I agree with concerns about Salah doing it at 33. While sports science is ensuring the best players can do it until they’re approaching 40, it’s always a risk. While Ronaldo and Messi are still wonderful players, they are now tactical liabilities and have been for a number of years. That is the risk you take with an older superstar, not a decline in their output per se.

10.) 17 Oct 2021 09:33:28
FlashTheRed - Just what is the issue here? The market rate for professional footballers of Salah’s level is extremely high. If Liverpool offer him 300k in a market that could easily make an offer of double, derisory would be apt to describe such an offer.

11.) 17 Oct 2021 10:58:39
I'd sooner keep Salah at his peak and let him go for free.

12.) 18 Oct 2021 13:42:42
@Lowe, you were the first to bring up 300k in this thread and you said "as reported" so it sounded like you knew this is what Salah had been offered. Turns out now you just made that up so you were actually complaining about your own nonsense.

We all want Salah to sign. I said £350k a week to put some sort of a realistic estimate on it which would brake the club salary structure but not be crazy Mbappe type money. I don't see any chance of Salah getting £600k a week with us, money Mbappe can get at PSG or I also don't see Liverpool going to £450k a week either, regardless of how much Utd pay their players.

Just throwing this thought out there. But Ox is poor. Never been anything like the player he was before that unfortunate injury. He did enough up to that to have me backing him. But he's alongside Keita now for me. Needs to be sold. Not suggesting he doesn't give his all or doesn't have desire. But just not good enough. Seeing Jones, now Elliot and Morton's cameo on Tuesday I'd put those three ahead of Naby and Ox and one of us injured.

Grobs tash

1.) 23 Sep 2021 09:34:13
I wouldn't say he's poor. He just needs more game time to get back to his best and that's the issue, he's too far down the pecking order to get game time. A loan out for him this season would've done him the world of good in my opinion.

2.) 23 Sep 2021 09:53:26
OP, Ox needs more game time, like Salah said. The guy has rarely played football at this level for the past 18 months so you cannot expect him to be in any kind of form after such a long period away from the game. Give it time, man.

3.) 23 Sep 2021 10:04:30
Op if am completely honest yes he was poor on Tuesday in fact probably the worst player on the pitch but as salah says he would need game after game to get him anywhere near back to where he was before his injury. I’d also throw in there his position. I mean what position is he best at.
Ive no idea if he is a high earner I guess he is but if there’s a kids that can take his place then am all for it. This mite sound harsh but that’s football players get injured and some never recover fully.

4.) 23 Sep 2021 10:18:44
Is there still a reserve league or under 23 league that these guys who need game time can play in every week whilst they are not in contention to play on a weekend.

5.) 23 Sep 2021 10:26:47
Ox may be playing poorly but he is not poor. There is a difference. As above you have to trust he can get back to where we was which will always be difficult with minimal game time. Let’s not forget Hendo, Milner and Thiago are no spring chickens. We could do much worse than keeping Oc and giving him the opportunity to get back to where he was. I would have been happy to see the back of Keita in the summer but to be fair to the lad he was been consistent and reliable when he he played so far this season, filling the Gini void and offering more going forward in my opinion. A bit loose in possession on occasion but he’s only now at the age and maturity that Gini was when we bought him. People forget that. If he continue to improve we may finally have the player we thought we were getting several years ago.

6.) 23 Sep 2021 10:49:05
Liverpool (Klopp specifically) have chosen to stick with Ox through his injury problems when the cold-hearted logical decision would have been not to renew his contract after his initial bad knee injury.
I agree with Westwood above, the lad is a good player and needs games, which he’s likely to get this season in any case.
It was only a few weeks ago that people were crying out for Divvy to be sold, now he’s looking much much better after more minutes.
Don’t forget too, that what amounted to a reserve team game at Norwich in the league cup is hardly a huge incentive for players like Ox and Naby. I know that a game is a game, but you can understand why their motivation may have been lacking a touch.

7.) 23 Sep 2021 10:51:48
Westwood, I fully agree with your points about OX. Keita, tho? Not sure I agree. Keita is still playing the same way he has always played as in, lazy out of possession, not tracking runners that run off him and is absolutely lazy when tracking back.

Those traits are STILL there in his game and maybe people are giving him a pass cos he has been absolutely dreadful since he arrived and he is now being graded on a curve BUT I still see what I see and he has not improved on any of those bad traits, IMO. I just think Klopp knows this and is just trying to or get whatever perf. he can get out of him and work with it.

As for Gini, not sure he would have gotten as many games as he did last season IF we did not have the injuries we had in midfield. Just my take.

8.) 23 Sep 2021 11:13:27
Your take Oli?
Funny that Ed001 mentioned the same thing a few days ago 🙄
I agree with you both though, Gini probably wouldn’t have played so much.
For the same reason that needs must, we’ll see Ox and Keita turn out regularly this season too I guess.

9.) 23 Sep 2021 14:20:28
So he agrees with ed1, what's the issue with that juicer mate? I do, very often because he knows what he's talking about and at one point on here it was an issue with me agreeing with somebody who knows their stuff lol can't make this sh*te up.

10.) 23 Sep 2021 15:40:38
I said during the live chat against Norwich that I think injuries have taken their toll on him, which is really unfortunate because he could have been a quality player. I mean he's still good, but he looks like he's lost a step or two.

11.) 23 Sep 2021 16:49:50
Juicer, this may be foreign to you BUT it is very possible for two people to actually see the same things. Also, I have been saying the very same things about Naby for the past 18 months as well as how disappointed I am in his play over time cos I was a huge fan of his after spending a season watching him before he came to us. But hey, I guess I have to disagree with the Ed's on here (which I do when appropriate) just to prove what to you, exactly.?

12.) 23 Sep 2021 18:35:07
Rumour has it Naby is going to turn down his new contract offer.

13.) 23 Sep 2021 18:48:13
Ox needs games to try and get his form back. He was very poor 1st half but in fairness put himself about and genuinely looked like he tried just poor passes etc.

The hope is that he can fully recover from those injuries and become the player he looked like he could be before his injuries. Whether or not he can is up for debate but I really hope he can, def a likeable player tbh.

14.) 23 Sep 2021 21:01:00
I think the injuries have taken their toll on ox I think he’s finished personally!
If it’s game time him Keita and origi should be playing weekly in the reserves or what ever it is!
Hanging around the 1st team sitting on the bench is a joke there’s being fit then there is match fit! Origi Keita and ox are neither.

15.) 23 Sep 2021 22:49:15
JK23 from what has been attributed as comments he has made over the past 2 or 3 years I’d say the rumour should be that it’s Keith’s agent who will turn down the contract if we are soft enough to offer him a new one.

He will need to be quite the salesman if he can get his client as good a deal as he currently has with us based on his performance levels for us.

16.) 24 Sep 2021 00:24:28
Your probably right Oli that I am comparing Keita favourably given his previous form. I suppose I always try to be optimistic that a player can turn it around, ultimately I just want to see players doing well in a red shirt so I suppose I can be a little blinded by that. Keita hasn’t been so terrible that I have completely lost that hope though and I will see any upturn in form as a positive. Only twice in very recent memory have I wanted players out of the club based on shocking performances, those being Karius and Lovren. Keita simply isn’t in that bracket yet for me.

17.) 24 Sep 2021 08:45:54
WDW Is Keith any good and what position does he play? He sounds like an old school target man to me. Hoping he gets a few goals in Jan for us when the main boys are away 😜.

18.) 24 Sep 2021 17:58:26
Forget what I said about Keita above. Injured again for Christ sakes. Blokes made of glass.

19 Aug 2021 07:46:28
Morning Eds. Do we still hold interest in Asensio of Real Madrid? Linked in the recent past and if I recall a big fave for Kloppers.
Was then in the press, an £80m price. But now I see linked to Arsenal at £35m. I know prices are press talk but if on this occasion true would he be a good buy? Klopp still want? He's 25 and I believe could play both in midfield and front line. Solving two areas in one purchase. Is he good enough?
Thanks.

Grobs tash

{Ed002's Note - There is interest from the Premier League but not from Liverpool.}

1.) 19 Aug 2021 10:46:23
Thanks ED002. In your opinion is Asensio a decent player that we should be looking to recruit. Considering age and if the £35m is indeed his price. For me when I’ve seen him he’s a YouTube star (lots of moments to post to hype) but in general he’s not all that. Am I wrong? Your thoughts are valued. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Asensio is a good player but Liverpool has no interest in him.}

17 Aug 2021 20:12:18
Evening all. Well done again for another. Sorry. Yet another day of priceless info. Thanks, we appreciate you so much.

My thoughts on Elliott and wondered if anyone shared. Due to his known wing positions and his skill, yet used now back home during preseason as another central midfield player. Does this add up as Ox replacement rather then cover across our front three?
Just for me it leads to a forward player more do than another midfield player as our main transfer target.

Grobs tash

1.) 17 Aug 2021 21:40:31
IMO he seems to lack that extra yard of pace for a winger and therefore maybe more suited to midfield but I may be wrong 😎.

2.) 18 Aug 2021 03:51:09
Agreed 1jj.
Elliott is not slow, but not winger quick.
The bizarre thing is, if Elliott is played in midfield, he’s more like Thiago than Wijnaldum.
He’s not a Wijnaldum replacement by any means, he doesn’t have that mobility.
The more I think of this, the more annoyed I become about signing Thiago.
Elliott could do his job better than he can do Wijnaldum’s.

3.) 18 Aug 2021 06:38:13
So if Thiago gets injured we have the perfect replacement. Why get annoyed about it? It’s good squad management.

4.) 18 Aug 2021 12:30:35
When we have the full midfield together, Thiago wouldn't be playing Gini's role.

I totally understand the open window noise from the tabs. We would have signed 6 midfielders and 4 strikers at around £400m if all true. But why this now? Even Mbappe has gone quiet cause we’re signing him remember. Don’t get how this has no fire. Smokes there.

Think he’s potentially a top level player. But also think if he returned to a stronger more demanding league now or next year he’ll be squashed and wasted. Good with BD in a league they dominate with Munich. Otherwise not convinced ready to blow EPL away. Yet.

Anyone have an actual real idea how we are so so skint? We keep being noted for these sponsorship deals that break records. New kit deals. Edwards being some overly excessive success at selling players for decent fees. Increased capacity for more match day revenue. A bucket load of TV money. A skip load of tournament money in the last three years. EPL money for our top 3/ 4 finishes over the last 3/ 4 years. Yet we seem to be the poorest side in England and probably not inside the top 30 European sides for available funds. Am actually blown away.

As much as professional football players want to play every game. Like 2nd or 3rd choice GKs. There will be a few outfield players like Nat that may prefer to be coached by one of the best in the world. Be involved within a club that’s where we are in the football world. Okay and train each day with players at the level of Salah. Mane. Firmino. Alongside our usual back four. Just saying that Nats a pro. He’s an adult. He made his choice well aware and could e the happiest person ever with his improved contract and maybe living his dream as I’ve guessed over playing regular at a Norwich or Burnley, constantly battling, getting nowhere, among average players day in. Grass is not always greener and I know I’d take five figures a week and be amongst our squad and club, Klopp and watching in prime seats every week.

Sounds lame. But. I had no one with any interest in football in my family but I loved playing it at school. The first game I was allowed to watch I was 9 and it was the FA cup final 1986. I fell in love. And I used all my pocket money at the time to complete the panini sticker album of Liverpool.

Bad day at the office? Happens. Take a breath, both Brighton and WHU are decent quality sides well coached and currently London Stadium is a union and now a tough place to go.
I would also in the same mind recognise the many mistakes made. But bigger picture we’ll bounce back. We’re CL group winners. One game. This game away from a record of unbeaten games since day dot. Ali still best GK. Klopp still best manager.
It’s no flash in the pan WHU are good enough on the day. Today was theirs. Nothing deeper.
