On a side note, good win for u19's too, Woodburn, Camacho, Adam Lewis, Jones, Brewster all looking very useful.

Tonight was a cracking performance

- Coutinho did well to justify his captaincy, well done lad. Got stuck in, played the passes early, scored a beautifully taken pen and cool second goal
- I really like this side with Can at DM and Gomez at RB, we look like we have real solidity and protection for a change. Surely we should be done everything we can to get him to stay and play Hendo in box to box role? Know he's leaving but seems we've missed a trick
- Our attack was just sublime, some of the one touch passes and movement was just breathtaking. Mane, Firmino and Salah look like they were born to play and Firmino ties the whole piece together.
- We will surely face tougher challenges but Spartak clearly tried to put pressure high up the pitch and we showed the competition it's a dangerous game as we score so readily on the break. Sides will be wondering whether to sit deep or not - not an easy call with Coutinhos ability to shoot from distance too.
- I just somehow feel so much more confident with Karius in goal
- felt sorry for Moreno, get better soon
- please can we put Solanke on the pitch next time? The lad needs game time and really want to see him get 30mins+ with the first team on the pitch at some point.

Well played reds, now for the derby!

{Ed0333's Note - I agree and echo your sentiments Grob. Can’s natural tendency is too go forward you can tell he hates staying back but as you say he’s effective so more of the same Mr Can please.

1.) 07 Dec 2017 03:23:37
i know, I would like him to stay. don't forget he played against spurs and city and in other poor performances. I don't think he was given such a defensive role in those games. he plays it well but he likes getting forward to, perhaps its better we find a proper dm who wants to do the job.

2.) 07 Dec 2017 07:32:31
I really like him in the deeper role because he’s not as nimble as Gini/ Lallana so he’s better with the ball in front of him rather than being turned. yet when in possession he can drive forward into gaps. He’s not a pure DM but his physicality at the base of midfield is certainly a bonus.

3.) 07 Dec 2017 07:38:23
I would love him too stay also but if he leaves pull out all the stops for rabiot would b ideal or we have too b shrewd in transfer market.

4.) 07 Dec 2017 08:20:54
Brob re Karius, I totally agree with you. There is a reason why whenever he plays, he never seems to have anything great to do and what ever he does, he does well. Could it be cos the defenders know what he will do and is more authoritative and commanding of his area? Could it be that he calms the defence down a lot with his overall play and the defenders are not afraid to pass him the ball? It certainly cannot be just a coincidence. In addidtion, your post was brilliant.

5.) 07 Dec 2017 08:49:39
Being able to bring the ball out of defence and break the opponents line is a great attribute for DM. I seldom see Henderson do that except maybe play ping pong with the CB and GK.

For all those panicking the side is going to collapse with Salah, Coutinho, Can etc. leaving

Transfer history last summer was Lucas and Sakho leaving, both with very different reasons but aside from that no-one else of note

Previous year was a massive clean out but frankly a whole bunch of players we haven't missed - Benteke, Allen, Balo, Skrtel, Ibe

I think the one thing Klopp has gotten really right since joining is not selling our best players so while Coutinho looks set, I can't see him suddenly selling Salah as well.

Fingers crossed Grobs! Keep this team together and we could win some major silverware very soon!

2.) 04 Dec 2017 17:21:10
Not far away MK still we require the right additions in the right places. The world and his wife knows we need a CB and a change to our number 1. I would perhaps suggest another midfielder should PC and EC depart with only Keita arriving. Would love Asensio personally but that won't happen.

3.) 04 Dec 2017 21:15:50
Mk a think soon as this team wins something (hopefully the far cup this year) then the mindsets will change from nearly men to winners. By that a mean if we had won the league cup 2 seasons ago, a think we would of won the europa league aswell and then that dip in form at xmas last season wouldn't of happened, all ifs and buts a know.
All teams just need that first bit of silverware then it usually kickstarts then in to winning more, and our team is capable of winning every competition we enter.

Madrid could be willing to go all out for him if they don't get their coveted primary targets, one of which i feel pretty sure they won't get.
LFC would be in a name your price situation with madrid, they don't really do their transfers like barca, they usually pay what is required to be paid (and quite a lot of it comes upfront) . It is very tough in that scenario, LFC could be looking to make 100 millions in profit on a player they just bought in last year, business wise it is an unbelievable opportunity.
And if we sell couts and salah both, we are about to get too many million in sales. would it dent the team? yeah ofcourse, but all those people who sit on the tables that matter, know this would be a huge money pot LFC sit on and make things financially viable. Also it enables owners to invest in more players since its commercially very reaping. so we would be giving a lot of players a opportunity to play at big stage, make it big and then sell them on profit, all in while winning maybe some trophies.
In longer run we need money from club to sustain, 250 million from two player sales is an unbelievable opportunity! personally as fan of the club ( and not some random players) i think it would absolutely insane no to sell.
It might create a sellers club image but i don't see what the big deal is with it. I really just want LFC to be the big club it is and it has been, forever.

I know the sentiment then we won't win nothing ever etc etc. As a fan i just support LFC and i won't be supporting any one else win or loose. But I do want the club to be financially viable in coming years, when some rotten big economies of this world are going to meltdown.

The key is him getting game time in a competitive league of professionals, and with Coleman there he has a good shot of that with at Sunderland. It doesn’t matter if it’s with a top side of or not, arguably a tough relegation scrap for 6 months will teach him even more! Good move for the lad and hope he learns a lot from it and helps out their side with a few goals.

Actually agree with you for once LKY! Not sure we need Son but very very good player, the other two would definitely strengthen us, as would Vertonghen and Lloris.

About three years ago then maybe I’d agree BigD but he’s flattered to deceive ever since.

No chance mate - I expect Lallana will slot into Coutinhos attacking midfield role and Mane, Firmino and Salah continue upfront with Ox rotating in midfield or upfront to keep things fresh.

Kent is in no way ready and the fact he can’t get game time at Freiburg is indication of that.

Klopp seems to be playing the long game - waiting for VVD, patience for Keita. I hope if Coutinho leaves we don’t go for a knee jerk option. We can survive with Lallana and Ox in the attacking midfield if required. I’m more worried about Hendos injury and our reliance on Can without much back up deeper.

From the u21s I’d go with most likely to step up as
Brewster - obviously.
Yan Dhanda - talented all-rounder in attack, seems to be a Lallana like player
Matty Virtue - not a superstar but I really think he’s always competitive in midfield, would really like to see him in box to box role for cup games
Connor Masterson - supposed to be one of the better CBs
Grabara - tough for GKs to get chances at the moment but think he’s very good

Unfortunately think Wilson missed his shot due to a certain Woodburn just being better.

From u18’s
Adam Lewis (think he is potentially an outstanding left fullback one day)
Curtis Jones - talented no.10
Tagseth - seems to be well rated
Liam Millar - very hard working and talented forward
Rafael Camacho - can play all across the front line

The problem is that with very limited slots available for first team opportunities, we’re lucky if one breaks through every 2-3 years. I think most likely that’s going to be Woodburn and Brewster so hope those to get all the game time they deserve, then maybe Adam Lewis down the road.

Agree 100%, Lovren looks great but then every now and again makes a clanger of a decision which costs us a goal, while Matip doesn’t look up for it enough and doesn’t tackle back or cover his team mates effectively IMO.

Klavan is unspectacular but also very effective, and underrated for his ability to compete with most physical of players while still being deceptively good playing out from the back.

I reckon he should hold the position with VVD until Gomez (and TAA) are both ready to start at CB and RB respectively.

It’s crazy how we went from Sturridge, Suarez and Sterling to choosing between Balotelli, Borini and Lambert. That was BR’s downfall.

Klavan got beaten for pace a couple of times and made a couple of mistakes early on, but since he’s settled in and we’ve adapted the system to prevent our CBs getting quite so exposed he has been very very reliable. I would be very happy to see VVD and Klavan becoming our first choice pairing given his willingness to take on physical strikers, the way he attacks the ball in the air, and he’s also a really decent ball player when playing out from the back.
