Heard a rumour that Liverpool have contacted Nicholas Pepes agent and said they are interested in him but want to sort it after the final. They said united where in early talks until Liverpool makes their interest known and know the player wants us.

Take of this what you will.

hi Ed's that Muppet Michael Owen has been talking about Alan Shearer being inches away from signing for Liverpool after Sir Bobby Robson put you on the bench.

This is the first time I have heard of this. do you know anything about it?

Happy Red Pants

{Ed001's Note - Shearer nearly joined Liverpool a few times mate.}

Was it when we had Evans, Houllier or Rafa? Or all of the above?

{Ed001's Note - I can't remember off the top of my head, the first time was before he joined Blackburn, we were in for him then. One of the times (might have been that one but I am not sure) the board blocked him joining because we had Ruddock at the club and the pair had been notorious trouble makers at Southampton. They caused a lot of trouble together. I know Evans wanted to sign him, but I don't know if it was ever a possibility during his time in charge.}

2.) 03 Sep 2019 14:40:05
Shearer was a great player. Shame we never got him.

3.) 03 Sep 2019 15:13:50
A lad who used to be in the same circle as me did his football apprenticeship at Newcastle and he was Shearer's boot boy. The lad used to hate him and told stories of how he was hated at the club due to his personality and attitude to everyone else. He was the highest paid player at the club but gave the lowest Christmas tip and apparently refused to chip in any money for anything that the other players did. The lad in question never made it at Newcastle but had a pretty decent career in league 1 and 2 for 10-12 years so a decent source who wouldn't gain anything from making that up.

4.) 03 Sep 2019 15:17:42
Razor over shearer sweet jeebus 🤦🏻‍♂️.

{Ed001's Note - I think that was Evans's time thinking about.}

5.) 03 Sep 2019 17:05:46
Think Thompson said we nearly signed him so it would have been Houllier in charge, he was knocking on then so no big loss although if what ed1 is saying is true and we missed out on him early in his career that was a big miss.

6.) 03 Sep 2019 17:22:09
Shearer and Ruddock caused problems together at Southampton?

I cannot think of two people that are more complete polar opposites of each other than Shearer and Ruddock.

{Ed001's Note - oh no they were real trouble at Saints. Ruddock never grew up.}

7.) 03 Sep 2019 17:56:28
Still hasn’t especially considering his health issues.

8.) 03 Sep 2019 19:46:45
We also wanted to sign batistuta no ed? from Fiorentina?

9.) 03 Sep 2019 20:15:43
Livebird, Batistuta was actually keen on coming to LFC at the time, I heard once. The issue had to do with work permit stuff and all that if not and with a bit of luck, Batigol could have been a Red.

10.) 04 Sep 2019 00:31:21
Houllier was in charge when Shearer flirted with Liverpool . I think it was one of our glory years 2001.

11.) 04 Sep 2019 00:43:51
Imagine Shearer and Batistuta up front for us during the late 90's early 00's with Fowler and Owen in as well. Scary to think of the amount of goals we'd have scored. Better file this one in the "if only" category.

12.) 04 Sep 2019 19:44:56
Kieran, not sure that outcome would have happened with the dreadful defensive way we were set up under Ged.

13.) 05 Sep 2019 00:47:16
If it was when bobby Robson was manager as stated it would have surely been houlliers era alright.

Ed was this just late to announce? I'm assume all the papers where filled in and everything approved before the dead line day they just announced it 2 days later?

Happy Red Pants

{Ed002's Note - He is a youngster that most people would never have heard of - they signed a couple of others as well.}

Am I right in thinking he could go out on loan until January? If that's the case a decision should be made at the end of January based on what cups we are in. Got to imagination he will play the league and FA cup. Maybe a little in the champs league if we qualify early.

JT the club has done well selling players for the price they believe is right. Look at players like Solanke. It was reported that we got 19 mil for him. If that was the case 25 mil for Wilson isn't overpriced.

I would love to see him come back and be great for us but I just don't see it happening.

I think every time he plays well we will be linked with him.

I meet Heskey and my god he's a big dude. TV doesn't do him justice. The guy was lovely but I wouldn't want a dig off him.

he's good cover but he's no where near Allison's level.

Spot on Ed. That finish was a farce. The end just left me in shock. I couldn't believe how far they would go just to get their guy on top.

I waited the wolves united again a few months back and the lad was big strong and so fast but every time he got near the box he couldn't do a thing with the ball. Personally I there are better options about that I assume would cost a similar fee. Sarr and Raphinha would be a better option from the prem league alone.

Seems a fair assessment of him. I keep wondering if maybe a stronger coach could get him to more effort into the defensive part of his game. He really does have all the tools to be a proper box the box kind of player.
