This is why I never understood the hate for Gomez? Is he the most solid defender in the league or team for that matter. no? But for fans at the time to criticize him so harshly to the point where they wanted him dropped and for Klopp to buy a replacement, I did not agree with that. People called for an injury prone Matip to take his place which is just kinda funny to me cos you can't rely on him, simple as? I have nothing against Rhys W. and Nat but I think we've taken for granted Gomez's speed and how important that is for the way we play. The Aston Villa game was an awful one! Absolutely atrocious of course! No one in the team performed on the day bar maybe Robbo and Salah but the criticism of Gomez was so unfair on the lad that I really couldn't understand what people were seeing? Now he's out of the team through injury and there's still problems down that right hand side. We all know Van Dijk is a great defender but to have Robbo and Mane on that side is faaaar better than having Trent and Salah to help you with defending? Not a rant, just pointing out how unfair I thought the criticism was of the lad, particularly after that specific game.

I never read any hate for Gomez, what are you talking about? I don't even remember posts saying he should be dropped and that we needed to but a replacement.

Where’s this coming from.

{Ed0666's Note - I’d gladly swap all of my wife’s handbags and shoes for a fully fit Joe Gomez now. Joe has always had nothing but love from me I think the OP maybe referring to Joe’s perceived inconsistency or lapses in concentration.

It’s what happens when we are not winning. The super fans who refuse to see anything wrong turn on the fans that do moan. Once we back to winning ways normal services will resume.

I would gladly swap my wife, Ed. He can even have the shoes and handbags if that’s his thing! 😂.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m sure an infinite amount of Liverpool supporters around the world would swap their wives for a fit Joe Gomez right now. In fact they’d probably throw in a mother in law or two also.

I'm so late seeing this I forgot I sent this in hahaha but nah I don't think it was on here as much where I saw the bashing, maybe a lil I can't remember? But there definitely was something going around that he's not good enough and he's mainly at fault for the goals we concede, buy a replacement or play Fab/ Matip there instead. and it all sat uneasy with me that's all? Wasn't attacking anyone on here or even mentioned this site specifically? I think it's a valid point that he has to deal with a lot more considering who plays directly in front of him as I mentioned before.

{Ed0666's Note - you’re not going loopy mate I vaguely remember the Gomez bashing. For me a switched on and amped up Joe Gomez is world class. Right now I’d take a switched off half amped Joe Gomez. We need Fab back in Midfield. .

So does Gini get a free ride again? More experienced than Keita in this league but apparently the "job" he does in midfield justifies his wages every week? Fab and Curtis came on and did far more in the time they had compared to Gini? Oh but he scores in big games my bad, guess this wasn't that big a game huh? Every games a big game when you're challenging like we are these days.

I find it very unprofessional "calling out" Liverpool fans as a whole for being whiners over this current situation. I understand you get thousands of messages a day regarding various topics and whilst I sympathize with the fact that it must be exhausting reading the same stuff over and over again, or dealing with genuine idiocy, I don't appreciate your frustration being taken out on genuine questions from fans that simply want your expert opinion and facts.

Fans are obviously disappointed naturally, how else are we supposed to feel? Happy? It doesn't help when you've got pundits, ex professionals, and people associated with the game coming out and giving their two cents on the topic with the majority making it about how Liverpool fans will be disappointed whilst completely disregarding fans of other teams that won't be able to see their team see success. Not many have included fans of Leeds, West Brom. and so on, in their piece about what should be done with the season which is outright disrespectful if you ask me.

Making it about Liverpool and their fans which is something we didn't ask for? We didn't ask to be talked about in that regard? We would just like to wait and see what's going to happen whilst hoping for a positive solution but instead it just feels like constant sneaky jibes being thrown our direction. Call it delusional but you're delusional if you think Man Utd fans aren't loving it and teasing us over potentially missing the trophy after it being a guarantee for most of the season.

No one has taken into account the fans that have travelled all season to see their teams play home and away? Money on plane tickets, matchday tickets, accomodation, food and beverage. spent all that money to see their team be successful with the hope of glory at the end of it all, making it all worth it in the end. Have we disregarded their hard earned money they've spent?

I'm sorry if it may appear as if I'm ranting, I'm just stating my frustration with it all. Everything is up in the air at the moment and no one truly knows what will happen. But don't rope us all into the one category as whiners because of the terrible situation we all find ourselves in.

I hope everyone's healthy and safe and your loved ones are the same. Take care of one another and let's all get through this together. Thank you.

{Ed033's Note - Maybe Liverpool fans are being called out as a whole for being winners :)

Robbiesline what is it that Gini does so expertly that the others don't or can't do? Score. Hendo and Fab do more of that, assist. again both players do more of that, keep the ball. didn't know there was a specific role for that for one player in a team of 11? And besides anyway him holding onto the ball more often than not disrupts the flow of our attack? He makes short, easy passes look difficult. He can't pass long? I fail to see what he brings anymore and if he doesn't want to sign a new contract or we haven't offered one (I don't know what the deets are) but either way why are we playing him if he's not going to be here next year when that spot could be given to someone who will be here and that in turn will bleed them into the side?

@Robbiesline I agree with some of what you're saying. Your point on Gomez is something I wish a lot more fans would see as I really really like him! Sure he can have his moments of lapses (like for example against Leeds I do think he needs to be a bit further back to cover Trent being higher up the pitch and that's why they both were caught having to make runs back) but he's still young as you said! I think I read a stat there after the game that VVD has made the most errors leading to goals in the league? That could be wrong though I'm not entirely sure? But either way my point is that anyone can make mistakes or have an off day but you don't give up on that player when for the most part they've been rather excellent!

However after that I have to disagree with some of what you've said? Gini for me has significantly dropped off in performances and for me he is the one player in the starting 11 that can be replaced for a better player? I think back to when he first joined and his linkup play with Lallana specifically was fantastic! He chipped in with his fair share of goals and assists. Now yes you can argue that his role has changed since his first/ second season but for me there shouldn't be one player in the starting 11 who's role is to specifically "win the ball back" or "keep the ball" and so on. that's the job our whole midfield does? Henderson and Fabinho do what he does aaaand more? Gini's performances have been quite frustrating in fact? You said he played well offensively against Leeds? I saw him miss a pretty decent chance that I would think he'd bury if he was playing for the Netherlands? I saw him sit around the box yes. but then that left the guys with the ball no option to pass to in our build up? He's 29, into his last year of his contract and I can't say I know why that's the case. But you've got Naby there who yes hasn't performed fantastic considering what we saw at Leipzig, despite it being a different league and system/ style he's playing in, but he's still younger and I've seen some good moments from him to think that with a run of games and confidence he could offer something important to our midfield that Gini does not? Heck I'd be happy starting Jones over Gini, that's how I little confidence I have in him at the moment?

As for the winger situation, I like Elliot yes but he's younger than the other boys and will get his time soon? When you take away our front three you're left with Origi, Minamino, and Elliot/ Shaqiri? For me Ox should play in midfield as that's where I think his better performances have come from? Brewster hasn't got his chance unfortunately and I like him but we can't rely on that when we don't know what's going to happen with him? Shaqiri doesn't get his opportunities and I don't know why? Maybe it's his training, maybe he doesn't do enough off the ball for the team when he plays? I do quite like him though as he usually comes up with a goal or assist in important times? And for me Minamino plays much better with our usual front three rather than with Origi? Also what happens when we lose players for the AFCON? It doesn't hurt to have decent backup to come in and offer something different or new and refreshing to this team when we stagnate and struggle at times? No one's asking for world class backups to replace most of the squad, just those that can come in to improve and rejuvenate a little?

I know this is a long reply and I apologize for that haha but last season I think a lot of people forget certain games we just got over the line? I recall Leicester and Aston Villa as the big ones that spring to mind? At Utd we weren't that good? Sheffield was a 1-0, Wolves were unlucky against us. I don't think it's too greedy to ask for a backup winger and maybe an improvement on Gini and that's it? Anyway I'll leave it there or else this may turn out to be a boom at this rate hahaha.
