Am I the onky one worried about the performance of the defence oveer he past 2 games. I mean the openings that Norwich and Burnley managed to get at the beginning of games and near then end of it is scary althiugh we have had 2 clean sheets. Against the better teams those chances are put away and the team is in a bad situation chasing the game.
I just hope my fears are laid to rest this weekend against Chelsea and we have a defensive game that is worthy of a win against the Londoners.

The vast majority of the chances were offside but as the play is allowed to unfold I think that warps opinions. We were very comfortable in both games and under little threat.

I get the point actually, I think we leave a lot of space at the back anyway so it's always a risk but luckily we have a great back 5 or 6 who can often recover.
It's also early in the season and once players get up to speed who have been out for a while I imagine we'll lose some of that sloppiness that we've seen.

Norwich had 14 shots and 3 on target and remember the brilliant triple save made by Allison, early in the game Pukki was released 1 on 1 with Allison against Burnley although most were offside Rodriguez was clean through and I think it was Barnes who out muscled Matip. Offside or not it's worrying that teams whi are considerably weaker are getting these opportunities.

2 games into season. and your basically saying our defence is crap. Obviously we're a bit shaky. but show me a team who isn't. 5 or 6 games under our belt and then we'll see where we stand. Chelsea have played palace and a shambles of a side which arsenal have become. Give your head a wobble mate.

They had 3 shots on target, Ali made a triple save, so all their shots on target come in a 5 second spell?
They may have had 14 shots but they weren't high percentage clear cut chances, i really wouldn't worry yet.
Even when we cruised the league and our defence was very good we still gave up a few chances here an there.
When you play a high line an the quality of opposition you play in the Premier league I don't think you can expect to be flawless, especially not at the start of the season and especially not when you have CBs coming back after 300 day lay offs!

I think the problem is we have to play with a high line to bluff the opposition out. Otherwise if they thought they had no chance of getting in behind then they would just park 3 buses in front of us. It is a little risky but we have to back ourselves to out fire the opposition. Basically Klopp is saying my dad is bigger than your dad.

OP yeah, I think it’s only you. Three shots on target vs Norwich ( one had no chance of scoring and the others was at the end of the game with the points in the bag) . Vs Burnley, players being caught offside (a sign of good defending, btw) and Ali making a couple of routine saves after the game was wrapped up. Come on, man. After TWO games? Is this even a thing?

Hi Zedd I agree with what you are saying but not in its entirety, 1st 11s are very important but they can only take so far with the amount of injuries that teams suffer during a season. Let's take a look at som examples looking at teams that had strong starting 11s and benches not to the same level. Liverpool 20/ 21 with 1 quality bench CB injuries to all 3 disrupted their season. 19/ 20 Man City having stones and Laporte with the bench not having similar quality that gave Liverpool an added edge from a team coming from 100 point + 98 point season to win the PL. Tottenham under Poxgettink could only pull so far under Pochettino because they ony had starting 11, Leicester the season the whole league too tier teams chocked and they powered there way to the title they only had a starting 11 and were very fortunate that none of their key players was injured.
Starting 11s are important but they can only take you so far and if your soley relying on 11 players you are really riding your luck and only takes 1 good injury to derail a season.

The PL is being greedy in its position just like they condemned the teams who joined the ESL they are prioritizing their league and Earopean competitions over over AFCON and the other tournaments will be taking place.

Definitely I just hope we avoid Atletico and Bayern things can go extra smooth without those.

The only worry I have against Chelsea is Fabinho, his needed in big games he really does make a difference aerially, on our build up, reads the game really well nd his the only midfielder who is a nutural defender.
