Hey folks, looking for a bit of guidance.

I'm coming over from Canada in November, and want to get to two games - Porto would be one (November 24th), plus one of either Arsenal (20th-ish) or Soton (27th-ish) (Prem games for November haven't been set for TV yet, but those weekends) .

When I went before (2007, seems a lifetime ago) I literally lined up and got a ticket (in the Kop no less! ) but assuming that's a pipe dream at this point.

What's my best bet at this point? Get there and pray and be willing to pay several times face value for a ticket? Some sort of touting/ resale site? (And if so, are any safe? ) Or just suck it up and spend £350 on hospitality?

Would be two of us, and while sitting together is of course ideal, we accept that may not be possible.

Any help / guidance appreciated! YNWA.

Hospitality mate if there are any tickets left. The touts are finding it more difficult atm. Resale sites are very expensive and hit and miss.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree hospitality is the way to go at this late juncture, if financially viable. It wouldn’t be too much more than getting a ticket from a tout I wouldn’t have thought maybe cheaper. Tours are cun*s of the highest nature.

2.) 19 Sep 2021 19:34:40
A friend got tickets for the Chelsea match the other week, on a ticket site paid £140 a ticket tho.
If interested will get the site for you?

3.) 19 Sep 2021 19:45:27
Hi,
Trying to hook a friend up for November (with a "cannot be mentioned here" team. ) So would be very interested in any kosher sites.
Thanks!

4.) 19 Sep 2021 20:07:56
Hospitality probably best bet, there are a few Facebook groups that are reliable where you can trust the admins to filter out the scammers, but just be careful. I got 5x Osasuna tickets for £50 and 1x Chelsea for £140, but have to expect to pay way over face value unfortunately. As a member I’m never lucky in any ballots then seem to miss general sale being out of the L postcode.

5.) 19 Sep 2021 20:23:00
Completely comfortable with those prices Curtiss if you can direct to a reliable source. costs me about £650 to fly over from where I am so £140 for tickets is manageable. It's a once every ten year sort of trip.

6.) 19 Sep 2021 20:53:24
I would love to know the site as well, thanks.

7.) 19 Sep 2021 21:42:59
Try ticket pad, had some OK prices and all games available.

8.) 19 Sep 2021 21:43:53
Be good to know the Facebook site Curtis? Thanks pal.

Eds et al; does anyone have any sense of where Herbie Kane stands in the club? A mate of mine from Doncaster says their supporters think he's the second coming, and has been massive for them in D1, not just in terms of scoring some great goals (which I've seen video of) but in terms of overall play (which I've seen much less of) .

Does this kid have a LFC future, or is he just one youngster among many?

Mahonen

{Ed001's Note - he has impressed but at a lower level, they want him to step up next season to the Championship. If Donnie get promoted, they might well get a second year of him.}

1.) 03 Mar 2019 15:19:18
Think he'll stay hanging around championship or lower tbh, seen a few games and he is a bit 'flashy' but doesn't strike me as a a grafter necessarily or someone with a lot of all around ability.

Probably end up selling him to a championship club in a season or two and making a few quid.

Two away goals are a drag, sure, but I've just booked my flight from Canada to Europe (trains to Kiev? ) for the CL final. I have faith.

That said, I have *no* ideas about anything in Kiev in terms of accommodations/ areas, or, maybe more importantly, how to get CL finals tickets. so if anyone has any suggestions I'm very open to advice.

YNWA. Here we come.

Mahonen

{Ed0333's Note - mate I wouldn’t hesitate to to book transport from wherever in Europe you’ll be embarking from to Kiev because come next Wednesday you will be facing a transportion nightmare and an expensive one. All roads to Kiev will be sold out. I speak from experience I had a match ticket to Istanbul in 2005 but couldn’t find a way to get there. Ferries, planes, coaches were chocka block. I was gutted. Your better off losing the fare price you pre pay to Kiev than waiting till next week. Match tickets I have no idea. I’m sure there will be a few expensive options available or you could try your luck outside the stadium before kickoff. Then there’s accommodation Im sure everything in Kiev will be near enough full capacity. Try Airbnb et al. I’m sure other posters will be of more help than me. Good luck. I hope we/you get there.

1.) 25 Apr 2018 00:16:46
There is literally no accommodation In Kiev avahas law so return your tickets while you can.

2.) 25 Apr 2018 07:21:32
I checked on flights to Kiev a couple of weeks back, it looks a nightmare with no direct flights from the north west.

{Ed025's Note - a bit premature there cobra..

As much as things have been on the up in respect to on-field performance, I have an off-field concern.

I'm sure most of us are subscribed to the club's email list, and about 1/ 4 of you (born so far this year) will have received a Happy Birthday e-mail from the club. Got mine this morning.

Last year, in 2017, Jurgen Klopp sang to me, almost giggling. This year, a myriad of players merely speaking.

Feels like a step backward.

Bring back Jurgen singing, LFC!

For a bit of banter fodder, wondering about the tone of how LFC supporters feel the summer is going. ESPN FC's David Usher had this to say:

"LIVERPOOL: "Underwhelming" best describes Liverpool's summer so far. Sadio Mane has arrived for big money but his circa £32m arrival will be offset by the sale of Benteke. That looks to be a significant upgrade at least, but Liverpool still have glaring needs in midfield and at left-back. The emphasis seems to be on signing young players for Jurgen Klopp to develop as he did at Borussia Dortmund, so how successful this window is will only become clear in a year or two.
Rating: 5/ 10 -- Dave Usher"

I was a bit surprised with the pessimism. I think Mane is a significant improvement on Benteke in terms of the manner in which Klopp wishes to play, Matip went unmentioned but seems a clear upgrade, Karius provides at least depth if not obvious improvement in a key position, and Grujic appears a talent for the future who was allegedly impressive yesterday evening, albeit against Fleetwood Town.

Overall, the summation of 'Mane for Benteke, it's a wash, not much else' doesn't appear to hold water in my eyes, and while there hasn't been a "marquee" signing for which supporters (of all clubs) often clamour, there has been some shaping of the squad. Besides, "marquee" signings so very often fail to live up to expectations anyhow, and are hardly a guarantee of success.

The "glaring needs in midfield" suggestion of Usher I am of two minds about. I do rate both Henderson and Can, am curious about Grujic, and believe Allen and Lucas, while limited in their own ways, are both capable of making contributions.

That said, is it Gerrard/ Mascherano/ Alonso? Certainly not. But it's not dysfunctional (unless Milner is playing there) . There's room for improvement though I'm not certain parachuting a single player in will solve that.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

He must support Everton.

2.) 14 Jul 2016 13:24:33
Just his opinion and nothing more.

3.) 14 Jul 2016 13:44:16
I wouldn't ever dismiss neutral points of view, every fan is biased towards their club and sometimes an outside perspective is more balanced.

Having said that, assuming we bring in a left back, Klopp would have addressed our squad's weaknesses so I see it as a positive, if unspectacular, window. I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10.

4.) 14 Jul 2016 13:47:16
Marquee signings are pathetic attempts to appease fans.

Look at United the other season.

Di Maria for £60m, Shaw for £30m, Rojo for £25m, Schneiderlin for £25m. That is just a handful of the signings they made that summer, and it has thus far proven to be £140m wasted. Shaw may yet come good, but it's been 2 seasons now and they have nothing to show for a £30m investment. As Flanagan has found out, young players struggle to come back from extended periods out of the game. You miss critical development stages.

Then you have our marquee signings, which despite being littered across multiple summers, are still a poor showing.

Benteke at £32m, Carroll at £35m, Downing at £20m, Markovic at £20m. All of these players have spectacularly failed and only Markovic has a (ridiculously slim) chance of coming good.

A lot of money does not equate to a lot of quality. Why is this summer underwhelming? It's 2 weeks into the window and we have signed 4 players, 2 of which filled a couple of the most glaring gaps in our squad. We primarily lacked a good keeper (Karius), a proper wide man (Mane) and a solid left back. With another month plus of transfer window to go, we are a left back away from a successful summer.

Sod what the reporters say. They are just trying to sell a story and controversy gets people talking.

5.) 14 Jul 2016 13:52:24
I think we're on the same page there, MK - I certainly wasn't advocating "marquee signings, " but implying those are the things that lead to these sorts of articles declaring things a genuine success. I've heard/ read a lot of United fans/ articles gushing about Ibrahimovic, but frankly, I think his odds of living up to such hype are minimal.

I agree, the left back is a genuine soft spot and has as yet been unresolved, but it's pretty clear LFC are looking to address it.

Overall, a bit of trimming of the squad and I'm actually quite content. I think bringing in too many now would be more disruptive than constructive.

6.) 14 Jul 2016 14:02:51
I think it is a fair rating.

Looks like they are comparing our signings to other clubs where they are buying not potential but proven players.

All signings both potential and prove are subject to risk as it can go anyway.

From that angle it is par for the course.

The problem area as you all know for us are
1. Midfield 2. Left back, Keeper, 3. Defending

We fans are hyping up Can a lot and he still needs to prove a lot.
Henderson not being 100% fit is also an issue.
Lallana and Milner are both grafters and lack guile, creativity.
Coutinho and for some extent Firminio have the class but go often missing or don't play together well.

We have one proven striker - Sturridge who's not 100% fit 80% of the time. Again Origi is potential and Ings has to prove himself.

Considering all these points we will have to play exceedingly well to get back into top 4 or others above us should play dross for us to have any chance to make it.

But we will be in the vicinity of 4 to 8th place and this season will go as another period of transition.

Cheers.

7.) 14 Jul 2016 14:15:48
a) he's ignored Matip and Karius, two of best rated in Bundesleague, and presumably just because we didn't pay a fortune for them
b) he's assuming we don't get a decent LB in before the window closes
c) his assumption about our midfield is up for debate but I'm personally comfortable with Hendo and Can as first team picks, with Lucas, Grujic, Stewart and Brannagan backing them up

Given Klopp has fixed three major problems in GK, CB, Wide forward with top class players, has Grujic in at CM which may well be our wildcard, and will probably fix LB before end of he window, and probably have achieved this while making a profit (in stark contrast to previous years) then I'd call this one of our most strategic and sensible windows ever.

8.) 14 Jul 2016 14:29:09
All players play to a potential . They Potentially play well or badly, Just because a players has a few years on him and has played well, and is well known on the world stage, doesn't mean he is going to carry on that same form in a new club he has moved to. Slating our new signing just because they are young is a laugh to anyone who suggests so.

Lets point to Delle Alli who had a great season but i'm guessing some of our fans would of had a go if we had taken him because he only had potential, we all know how that worked out for spurs. Grujic as an example has the same potential to play as well as any new signing for any club and vise versa.

9.) 14 Jul 2016 15:09:02
Origi for benteke.

Mane for ibe.

Grujic for allen

Matip for skrtle

Karius for mignolet

Regardless of how good they all become, they for us are all upgrades as simple as rhat.

They all together add 10 points to us next season.

Mane won the game against us 3-2 so there's 3 points. Mig cost u atleast 5 points, certain karius will fix that.

And then just havint a but more overall quality will easily add 2 points.

Is that not top 4?

10.) 14 Jul 2016 15:11:15
Its awful when the first two weeks of the transfer season are underwhelming.

11.) 14 Jul 2016 15:45:16
Samikewell, I have to disagree on the midfield.

We have Hendo, Can, Lucas, Stewart, Brannagan, Chirivella + Milner and now Grujic who can play there if necessary. Not to mention Allen is yet to leave. If Klopp sticks to his 4-2-3-1 then we are more than solid enough there. If he wants to implement a 3 man midfield and we were to lose Allen, Lucas and Milner then fair enough. An addition may be required. Even then, I'd be happy with Can, Hendo and Grujic backed up by Lucas, Brannagan and Stewart.

We only have about 40-45 games this coming season. No need for a massive squad. If we lose anyone to injury, then someone else gets the chance :)

12.) 14 Jul 2016 15:51:33
At the present time I would agree with that assessment. Mane wasn't a necessity but is an upgrade. Having watched the Bundesliga a lot I'm far from convinced Matip will fill the big holes in our defence. LB is still a big issue needing to be fixed. Karius has shown huge promise in Germany so could well be the bargain of the century. We have still done nothing to solve the big gaping holes in midfield. Grujic although has been playing deeper for Red Star is far from defensively minded. Until LB and DM is solved it will be an underwhelming winow. It is early days though so I reserve proper judgement until the start of the season. A lot of incoming for us could be based lot on outgoings and looking at the size of the squad, so it should be.

13.) 14 Jul 2016 15:57:23
Plus, none should be saying Karius will 'put a stop to that' in regards to costing the team points. The lad is young and untried in the PL. let's just ease the pressure off of him a bit before he has one bad game and everyone wants to crucify him.

14.) 14 Jul 2016 16:02:51
I sincerely hope that we do get underestimated by everyone in the media, if no one expects us to do much this year it will mean less pressure. No one was talking up Spurs and Leicester last year, and indeed the year we went close, most of these pundits end up eating their words by the end of the year.

15.) 14 Jul 2016 17:03:43
MK, purely because Ron hasn't chimed in yet, we have exactly 50 fixtures next season.

Now, how do I do a sunglasses emoji.

16.) 14 Jul 2016 17:20:20
If the idea is that we have underwhelmed in the TW because we are not paying 100m for Pogba, 65m for Di Maria and the like then, many will remain disappointed under Klopp`s reign because that is not his thing. Grujic is young and talented while Allen won`t get any better than he already is hence, upgrade. Karius is a very promising GK and is second rated behind Neuer in the Bundesliga, a league where ten GK`s can be England`s no. 1, potentially hence an upgrade on Mingo. Matip is a much better player than people give him credit for. he`s big, strong, can pass, can play DM and is lethal on set pieces as a former CF. Upgrade on Skrtel and Toure. Mane is exactly what we need on the flanks so those saying he won`t be that good should wait and see. Moral of the story? Bar LB which Chilwell will fill, we are making strategic signings to address the issues we have that BR refused to address for three years here so I suggest people just tune out what others say and focus on our team like I do because I don`t care what other teams do or who they sign because Leiceister City didn`t care neither and look where they are.

17.) 14 Jul 2016 18:32:16
Point is he is speculating just like we are, truth is no one knows how they will work out until we start playing competitive games.

I bet he would have said the same thing about Leicester last season and look how that turned out. Its not about individual signings but the sum of the parts.

I HOPE our new signings gel and i am OPTIMISTIC that we have made the correct signings to make us a stronger and better team. that's all you can really ask for.

18.) 14 Jul 2016 20:23:39
He's a doubter.
We don't need doubters, we need believers 😎.

19.) 14 Jul 2016 19:30:29
We are not done in the transfer window yet. I expect at least 2 more incomings.

20.) 14 Jul 2016 19:49:21
Dude, I stopped reading Dave Usher's articles because the guy is a moron who knows nothing about football. When the colour is black he will call it white.

Can was so dominant on the right side of a back 3 that in this formation we don't even require a goalkeeper.

Brilliant tactical innovation; something you'd have expected to see come from Italy, but now developed on England's own shores. It's like the reinvention of football itself.

I've just booked a flight from Canada and a hotel for a few nights, and entered the ticket lottery. It actually closes tomorrow, but is still open - can apply for you plus one. Get yourself into it. Myself and the friend I'm going with have both applied, so fingers crossed between the two of us one of us is lucky.

Application is online at the UEFA website.

Good luck!

Anyone else going?

Is it bizarre that I feel sympathy for De Gea? I mean, fail to save any of 11 and then miss yourself. For anyone who's played, at any level, it's hard not to empathize with how gutted he must feel.

On the other hand, in a cruel way, I almost enjoyed it. ahh, emotional conflict.

Ward-Prowse isn't good enough in open play to replace Wijnaldum, in my opinion. He adds value with set pieces, but given we've already got TAA as a right-footed taker, I'm not sure how much value he'd add for us.

He lives in a small community in Newfoundland (eastern Canada) now, and does a fair bit of volunteer coaching with the soccer association in the area. I've taken a travelling team out to that city a few times and gone to watch while he was running sessions with his teams, but never wanted to intrude or said more than a passing hello to him.

For what it's worth, just sitting in the stands listening to him train/ instruct/ coach, he's a pretty sharp communicator and respectful to those players. Obviously has a bit of a checkered past, but seems to live a pretty quiet, sensible life at this point.
