Ed01

Do you think that Ben Woodburn has the capacity to be a Couthino replacement .

Does he have the attitude and talent to improve his game obviously given time and patience .

I am not an expert but I believe that this lad is special and he needs to be given a chance to stake his claim for a spot in the team .

Sometimes the best things are right in front of you but you are too busy looking elsewhere .
Thank you.

Piaray

{Ed001's Note - he has the potential to be a great player, he has a good attitude and the talent, but I am not sure it would be a Coutinho replacement role. The problem is with kids of his age, they can often go through growth spurts which throw out their balance and touch for a while and so you can't rely on them to be the centrepiece of your side.

For me a good example of that is the lad at Everton, Davies. Last season he was excellent, had a good touch, passed the ball well, this season his touch is awful and his passes are going astray. To me it looks like a kid growing up and having to get used to his body all over again.

Woodburn needs a lot of patience, if we want to win things now, rather than looking 5 years down the line, then we have to bring in someone much closer to readiness, while developing him as well.}

1.) 09 Jan 2018 10:05:34
And do you still beleive we will bring in someone ed, just seems all negative on here everyone saying we are not replacing.

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

2.) 09 Jan 2018 10:55:07
In this month eds?

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

3.) 09 Jan 2018 11:28:58
Thank you Ed for the prompt reply , your time and opinions are greatly appreciated .

Prices these days for players is absolutely crazy. This should now more than ever highlight the need for top quality academies therefore I am overjoyed that our club has been proactive in their investment in the academy and the subsequent move to Kirkby. This in hindsight may be our best investment yet .

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed mate. It really should be producing more by now.}

4.) 09 Jan 2018 12:09:10
You have jinxed it now Ed!

Red Sandman.

{Ed001's Note - it is ok the Xmas tree is still up so no jinxing anything!}

HelloEd,01

I would like your opinion on an issue if possible as well as my fellow posters. Recently I've been listening to to the so-called experts and every single one of them agreed that Liverpool Football Club has a problem with leadership. I wonder if leadership is something that can be taught to an individual or if a player is identified at a young age group and is then primed to take over the captaincy I understand that there are many characteristics that determine what a leader should be however I'm sure that the club has sufficient expertise and people to identify these individuals I would also like to discuss what is the best position for the captain personally I feel that the captain should play In Defence because he has a birds eye view of the play and he is at a Vantage Point in that he can determine which players are being targeted and he can see how the game is panning out. Ed I would like to enquire whether you agree that we have a leadership problem in our team and what in your opinion are the steps that we can take to rectify this problem.

Piaray

{Ed001's Note - leadership can be brought out of a person and taught, but they are very rarely identified now as coaches are looking for players who follow instructions. Leaders do not blindly follow orders.}

1.) 22 Sep 2017 17:07:21
When you target nice players this is what can happen. Yes we have a wonderful group of lads but without wanting anyth8ng nasty to happen, we have No One prepared to drop kick there Nan if she was through on goal. Stab her, hobble her. Just put her out of commission.

2.) 22 Sep 2017 17:18:59
I bet Carra would be a good person to bring leadership out in people.

Not to necessarily coach, just to inspire the youngsters and teach them to communicate to each other, organise themselves and figure out situations for themselves.

3.) 22 Sep 2017 18:30:09
Klopp might not like leaders as he would need a buy in on everything which would be not 100% feasible in the best of Captain - Coach partnerships.

Cheers.

4.) 22 Sep 2017 23:15:58
Sorry toonred, but carra has done himself no favours as a pundit. From hero to prize twiglet to me.

5.) 23 Sep 2017 12:17:30
Samikewell, how do you know he might not like leaders? Did he reveal thatto you or do you have info to support it? And if that was the case, how did Klopp do at BVB where he had a great relationships with leaders like Kehl (capt. and was there way b4 Klopp got there), Sahin, Hummels, Bazchykowski and Weidenfeller (same with Kehl)?

Hi guys
Just huge shout out to Ed01, I read your match review after the Man City game and thought you were being harsh on Matip . I unfortunately had to watch most the game again ( whilst waiting for an appointment in the waiting room ) this time without my red tinted glasses on and I was absolutely appalled by the complete lack of effort from Matip .

There should be no excuse for simply coasting through a game even though the result was a foregone conclusion . I can't believe that I didn't notice this whilst watching the live game . I now understand why you sometimes delay your review till you get your emotions in check and rewatch the game objectively. I wish I had your restraint mate as I am blinded by emotion when it comes to LFC . Thanks to both yourself and 02 for the objective commentary on our beloved club . YnWA.

Piaray

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, though I wish it was a happier reason for your post!}

1.) 12 Sep 2017 11:39:11
Nice post piaray. It can be very hard to be objective about the club you love.

2.) 12 Sep 2017 12:05:22
Did Klopp instruct the players to lower there intensity? Personally I accepted defeat as soon as second goal goes in. Realistically with 10 men we were never going to win that game from 0-2 down. Im just wondering if those were the instructions, don't waste energy.

3.) 12 Sep 2017 12:20:38
OP, I was disappointed with his lack of effort as well. He just seemed to be disinterested in actually putting a shift in, which shows he is not a leader. This is why I say that it is easy to blame Klavan all the time and not see Matip's faults. Klavan was not great but was actually trying to do the right thing. He is 4th choice for a reason. Matip on the other hand, was awful in all areas of the game and I am glad ED01 called our attention to it cos if he did not, Matip would be absorbed of the blame that he rightly deserves.

4.) 12 Sep 2017 13:13:30
Matip gets away from criticism coz he brings the ball out from the back better than Henderson. He has a brilliant eye for pass hence we overlook his defensive contribution.
He was slow at schalke So what made you think he would become an usain bolt at Liverpool? You simply cannot play high line with out CB's. Plain and simple!

5.) 12 Sep 2017 13:59:12
How did you manage to get a dig at Hendo into a discussion about Matip's lack of effort 🙄.

6.) 12 Sep 2017 19:24:38
MK, only Harry could have done that as only he, has that unique (only to him) ability to chide our players who he does not like. Hendo and Matip don't even play the same position YET found a way to slate him. That post makes no sense at all, logically. I don't think he will ever be happy until Alonso comes out of retirement to play for LFC.

Hi Ed
I get that the papers spin stories to increase their readership hence I take most stories with a pinch of salt however I have to ask you about the whole approach for couts by Barcelona . I can't believe that Barcelona are so desperate to appease Neymar that he basically has the power to suggest if not effect their transfer targets . I have heard similar stories with regards to Ronaldo at Madrid . If true I find it appalling. that players can yield so much influence on clubs . What is your opinion mate? Is this the trend of the future? If so what can be done to rectify this as it is ruining the game. As always I I respect your opinion and I sincerely hope you respond . I am also interested to hear the opinion of fellow Reds .

Thank you.

Ps / special mention to Ed 25 for his light hearted often humorous responses to posters . Closet Red methinks.

Piaray

{Ed025's Note - i cant see couts going anywhere just yet piaray, he seems very happy at liverpool and as much as im sure he would like to play with his mate he is a pro and if liverpool live up to his expectations he will stay...and there is more chance of finding rocking horse crap than me becoming a red mate.. :)

1.) 26 Jul 2017 07:17:58
🐴💩
🏆.

2.) 26 Jul 2017 07:40:56
Ed025 has got to be my favorite Toffee. Expects us to sign Keita, VVD, keep Coutinho. Somewhere deep down, i think u bleed red although u may not know it yet.

{Ed025's Note - i will never be a bleedin red IB.. :)

3.) 26 Jul 2017 08:05:41
Haha, you will come out of the closet once LFC win the BPL.

{Ed025's Note - the closet will be full of woodworm by the time that happens i expect IB.. :)

23 Jul 2017 20:06:27
Happy birthday Danny Ings, best wishes to you mate . Your sheer determination and desire to succeed at LFC is astonishing . I can't wait to see you back in the team proving all the doubters wrong YNWA.

I don't think he reads this page pal.

{Ed002's Note - You might be surprised how many players have seen this page. I showed to an ex Player (not Liverpool) tonight and he thought it slightly odd.}

2.) 23 Jul 2017 22:00:36
Aaaawww now you can't say not and not give us a clue. we've got to play the guessing game.

{Ed002's Note - I have shown these pages to plenty of players and coaches over the years. I guess a few agents and the very plentiful friend of many premier league players.}

3.) 23 Jul 2017 22:29:25
this is very intriguing ed. what would you say the consensus usually is.

{Ed002's Note - Odd that folks trash their own.}

4.) 23 Jul 2017 22:32:29
"I showed to an ex Player (not Liverpool) tonight and he thought it slightly odd"

Slightly odd 😆 was he mates with Salvador Dali?

{Ed002's Note - Sadly not.}

Ozone mate, just like to clarify that my post is not an attack on you, actually I admire that you are consistent in your convictions and that you remain steadfast in your beliefs unlike the bipolar nature of some posters . In this instance however I pray that you are wrong . As unpopular as your views are sometimes I gauge that you as passionate about LFC . I hope that ultimately we all can celebrate the success of our team together regardless. YNWA.

The owners have categorically said that they won't sell Couts under any circumstances if they do sell him then I will unfortunately have to concede that Ozone was right about them all along . I hope that for the sake of our club that Ozone is wrong. We should NEVER sell our best players unless they put in a transfer request and in this circumstance if we do it should be on our terms for an amount that would allow us to afford a similar or better player. I hope that Ozone never gets to say " I told you so "

No worries Ed.

Piaray

{Ed001's Note - and thank you again mate. It is always good to know that our work here is appreciated. It is this kind of thing that keeps me getting up at 7am each morning during the winter, when the matches only finish at 2am and I have been busy editing for an hour or 2 afterwards before I could go to sleep. Knowing it actually matters to someone else makes waking up much much easier.}

By the way Ed01 I have massive respect for you mate, I can't thank you enough for giving me the forum to discuss these issues that with other reds from around the world who are united behind our beloved team . I suffer from clinical depression and believe it or not I find this forum therapeutic . God bless you mate for the good work you are doing . I don't expect you to post this, that is not the intention . I just wanted to tell you THANKS!

Piaray

{Ed001's Note - wow thank you mate. I am glad it helps, though I am surprised it is therapeutic, most of the time I find it quite the opposite! I wasn't sure whether to post this or not, as you might have wanted it to remain private, but then I remembered something I was told about depression etc, that knowing there are other people in the same boat helps people to deal with it. So maybe someone will read it and feel better and know it is ok to talk about their problems. The biggest step is always to admit you need help after all.}

Fair enough Ed, I conceded that my response was a bit over the top . I just can't help feeling frustrated that I am rarely ever are ease with his defending and those outstanding games are too few and far between . I would love him to make me eat my words because ultimately all that matters is that the team win matches.

Piaray

{Ed001's Note - the way we play, it is just never going to happen that you are ever at ease. Mind, even when we dominated it was usually as a result of late goals that we picked up the wins, so I doubt if LFC has ever been a club that you can be at ease watching.}

Sorry if I'm sounding heartless here but if players are not in the right frame of mind due to personal issues then it is the responsibility of the manager to put the team first and let the individual sit out the game . If I am to be totally honest Lovren has been dire since forever, a mistake waiting to happen . No time for sentiment unfortunately in this day and age . The only thing that keeps players performance levels high is the fear of being dropped due to competition for places in a squad . The fact that there isn't quality competition for Matip, Lovern and Klavan rests squarely on Klopps shoulders .

In spite of this I remain committed to supporting the manager and any player that gives 100% commitment and effort for the team . It's been too long since we have added to our trophy cabinet .

Piaray

{Ed001's Note - if you were being fair, you would remember that you are talking crap about Lovren. He has never been dire all the time, that is the problem, he is inconsistent. One game he can be good, the next he will make silly errors. The Derby, for instance, he was excellent, maybe even the best player on the pitch, as he smothered Lukaku completely. So, to be fair, you would not just say he was 'dire since forever' as that is not in any way fair.}
