Opinion from an ex player (currently working for the club) is that VVD will not happen this window. He said LFC were hoping others would bid as they saw this would allow them to bid. They will not bid solely as they see this as breaking the promise made to Saints. He expects that this will be resurrected in Jan.

Also he believes the owners want Coutinho to stay even if Lemar signs (they want to show they have kept their word to fans) . However Klopp is apparently pi**ed off with him for training (and likely playing) for Brazil and wants him gone. He thinks this is 50/ 50.

He did stress that he has no involvement in transfers or any playing matters and that this was all his personal opinion.

1.) 31 Aug 2017 11:36:44
So even if other teams bid for VVD surely putting a bid in themselves would be breaking a promise you say?

2.) 31 Aug 2017 11:47:08
Without VVD or a Quality CB in this window i feel its very underwhelming. Keita is not coming for a year. Ox is a squad player. Solanke a squad player. Robertson needs time. only Mo Salah has improved us.

3.) 31 Aug 2017 12:03:10
Think liverpool stated they will drop interest (for unsettling a player) unless SHFC indicate they are willing to sell. If a bid from another team comes in and do not reject it immediately, then this open the door for Liverpool to register there interest. Too little to late, problem is he has constantly said he wants LFC move, so this is prob put off other teams and its backfired. I suspect the same thing with the OX, liverpool have prob tapped him up as he was linked very early, as soon as chelsea bid liverpool got their man.

4.) 31 Aug 2017 12:37:06
The rumour with Ox is that Arsenal didn't want to deal with us cause of the old Suarez thing, so we didn't bid until the last minute when they'd already planned around him leaving. Don't know how true that is.

5.) 31 Aug 2017 12:39:48
Well if we now have this special relationship with Barcelona maybe they could bid for VVD and get the ball rolling 😉.

A mate of mine is mates with an ex-player, currently still involved at the club.

His view (ex-player) is that Coutinho had been told by the owners that he could join Barca. He is p***ed off with the statement FSG put out this morning and decided to put the transfer request in. It was deliberately leaked to the media to ensure LFC couldn't keep it under wraps.

He also said that Couts has said he will not play for LFC again to try to force the move through and due to how upset he is by what he sees as a stab in the back from the owners.

Klopp's stance apparently forced the owners to change their mind, so this could have a major rumblings.

Back injury is genuine - despite what is being said on twitter.

I know none of this isn't really news to anyone, but thought I would post what I have been told.

1.) 11 Aug 2017 16:13:54
Don't think he'll go on strike as the World Cup is coming up.

Also, imagine going on strike when you earn the best part of 150k a week 😂 Ridiculous.

2.) 11 Aug 2017 16:14:21
Interesting, thanks for sharing.

Do you reckon Klopp has been playing games? Basically saying to the media that he's not going in order to force FSG to back him by issuing that statement?

3.) 11 Aug 2017 16:37:33
Karma Liverpool fans now you know how Southampton fans feel.

4.) 11 Aug 2017 16:51:20
If the OP is right, Klopp got ahead of himself, and screwed up. He and FSG need to get on the same page ASAP.

I think this whole thing could have been amicable (i. e. give us one more season), but the Neymar departure has left Barcelona humiliated and desperate, and now they will do anything to force the Coutinho transfer.

2 weeks to find a replacement for Coutinho? Who? At what price?

A bad situation all round.

5.) 11 Aug 2017 16:55:48
Why would the owners tell coutinho he could join Barca?
Or tell any player anything?

6.) 11 Aug 2017 16:56:22
tigerx it isn’t the first time Klopp has got a head of himself an screwed up in this window. it’s laughable really 😒.

7.) 11 Aug 2017 17:21:01
Eh? How has Klopp screwed up? Owners are supposed to have told Couts he could go and then said no. Klopp may have said he doesn't want him sold but that is fair enough. He is trying to build a successful team. Did he tell the lad he could go?

8.) 11 Aug 2017 17:27:07
Pitcher we've been here before not are fault lfc are a bigger club than saints, and Barcelona than liverpool.

Just as much as it's not Celtics fault you can offer prem football.

9.) 11 Aug 2017 16:39:55
Maybe the Eds can help us here.

Is it normal for players to talk to the owners about such things?

{Ed002's Note - It rather depends. The Liverpool owners are not football people and are not based in this country. Their contact with the players on a day-by-day basis will be zip and would otherwise be limited to a few words when they make their very occasional visits. Other owners are closer to the side and attend all the matches they can, are friends with players etc..}

10.) 11 Aug 2017 16:55:36
The statement was from the owners Tiger. If the owners have made such a promise to coutinho it's them that created this mess.

I wouldn't of thought owners talk to players and promise moves like this? Surely that would be the conversations the manager would have? Is this normal practice Eds? The idea of owners promising moves?

11.) 11 Aug 2017 21:05:02
Nah, I'm not buying that, OP. Why would the owners promise Cou he could go to Barcelona w/ o Klopp knowing about it? Also, why would they say that and then come out and say he is not leaving at any price, knowing full well that it is false and contrary to what they told Cou, behind Klopp's back? This does not make sense.

12.) 11 Aug 2017 21:47:44
regards Klopp, the best thing to do would be to get Klopp as far the hell away from any kind of transfer talk as possible.

13.) 11 Aug 2017 22:09:16
I don't think it was meant that the owners and pipco are best buddies and speak on the phone and have coffee etc. More so that the hierarchy of LFC had told Pipcos people that the transfer could happen. This was (I understand) behind Klopps back.

Interesting now that supposedly Klopp is Pipcos "enemy" and they don't get on.

More posturing.

14.) 11 Aug 2017 22:51:46
I love Couts, but am I the only one that thinks he's not good enough to replace Iniesta? He's a great player, makes something from nothing, but I just don't think he's the right man for them. I think they'd be looking to offload him in a year or two. He doesn't get involved anywhere near as much as Iniesta.

Now you may say. How about a replacement for Neymar? Well I think their other target in Dembele is a better choice. Phil has always been shoehorned into that position and doesn't play direct enough and doesn't have the pace to be Barca's left forward.

15.) 11 Aug 2017 23:08:24
Not now epic, but don't allow what you see now cloud what could be still to come. If he were to stay with us and take the #8 role on, he would develop all those skills that you say he doesn't have yet. And I don't see any reason why he wouldn't pick those up and excel at them.

16.) 12 Aug 2017 03:39:17
Phil was great at front of diamond in last couple of games last term. I still not completely convinced number 8 is his position. He plays best between the lines so number 10 has to be his natural position.

I see there is a rumour that Athletico Madrid may want Agger. I hope that this is true - not because I am keen to see Agger leave, but it looks certain that he will and therefore I would wish that he goes to a decent club and I see this as a good move for him.

Hi Eds,

Great work as always!

A question for Ed 001 if he's about.

Do you know if we have any other central defenders targeted in case we fail to get Lovren and if so are we likely to switch our attentions there?

I read today that Utd are supposedly targeting De Vrijj for about 10m. I don't think Liverpool are interested, but I think he is a decent player and shows that there are other options about, maybe at a better price.

Is there anybody else you rate who you would like as a possible alternative.

Poor Scouser Tommy

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware it is Lovren only right now. My alternative would be to try Kelly there to be honest.}

Has anybody heard anymore about what "OneGuardianSaid" is all about? Other than BR's scheduled press conference at 3pm there doesn't seem to be anything on the website.

Would be good if it is something about sponsorship for the stadium build as somebody suggested on Saturday.

The Contractor building the Anfield Rd Stand has applied for administration. All subcontractors have left the site. Weekend game with Bournemouth could be called off, apparently.

1.) 17 Aug 2023 23:40:08
The club are apparently emailing ticket holders saying the game will go ahead, fans will be in the lower tier only for obvious reasons.

2.) 17 Aug 2023 23:41:42
Thought the club had released a statement saying test events had satisfied the council and that the game would go ahead, lower tier only. Has something changed?

Cheers.

3.) 17 Aug 2023 23:49:18
Transfer window still open. Reckon we can get a few brickies on loan.

4.) 18 Aug 2023 00:30:41
That’s just great so now we need a lcb 25 brickies 15 plumbers and 40 electricians.

5.) 18 Aug 2023 07:12:19
They’ve already released a statement saying the lower tier is open and has been given the thumbs up by the council.

6.) 18 Aug 2023 09:33:20
But it's easier to get sign world class CDMs and LCBs for peanuts than it is to get decent builders, these days.

Hearing that Trent will be out for about a month due to the injury he picked up on Saturday which has been further aggravated in training.

I guess for the time being it will leave Milner or Fab to cover at least until Gomez is fit.

This is a late post to last week's game against Bournemouth. I've seen a lot of stuff on here picking up on various points, but nobody has raised the most important talking point. WE HAVE CHANGED PIE SUPPLIERS AND YOU can't GET A SCOUSE PIE ANYMORE!!! Eds - How can I start a petition - this wrong must be corrected in time for West Ham on Saturday.

Thought the reds were very good last night. Over the last year or so, when they have been on their game they have been superb to watch. Whilst I am one of BR's biggest critics I will give him the credit he deserves for getting us playing the way we do at times.

However, as I say I am one of his biggest critics and do think he misses things in his coaching of the team. The most obvious to me being the finishing of Sterling and Coutinho. If the pair of these can add that bit to their game, they truly will become world greats. But why can't BR see this and work on it constantly?

Do you think this is down to BR being (relatively) young and inexperienced, stubborn, plain stupid or what? Am I wrong - is this something that you just cannot teach?

Don't get me wrong I know there are other flaws in the team right now, but these I think are obvious and should be worked on.

Do we need better support in the coaching? (Aside from Achterberg who has never been up to it in my view). Would BR accept it?

Will BR be around come the end of the season?

A lot of puzzles to be solved.

Fingers crossed though, we carry on playing this way, with Sturridge coming back as well - hopefully we will give a team a right good hammering soon.

I know we are all hurting at the moment, but the glass is more than half full!

Poor Scouser Tommy

1.) I think last nights perfromance was more to the credit of the players giving it all (mostly), rather than Brendan who's tactics and subs seemed to be the exact opposite of what was needed.
In fact a lot of his decisions these days seem to be.

2.) Good observation, Mikey. We have strikers on the bench YET starts none of them in a game e needed to score at least one. Borini would have helped w/ his moveent to create space for Sterling and Couts to run into. But, I`d better not criticize BR lest I am labelled a BR hater for just stating my opinion on what we all saw.

Eds,

With the current speculation about a move for Higuain, what are your thoughts on him (I mean as a player not whether we will sign him which I very much doubt). I have only really seen him a few times and have to say that he never really stood out to me and in my view wouldn't give us any more than Ballotelli (though there would be no circus!). I would appreciate your views (and anyone else's who perhaps has seen more of him).

Poor Scouser Tommy

{Ed002's Note - Higuain is a decent well respected footballer.}

Ed 1 - you make some great points here. We were discussing it in the pub last night and I think the consensus of opinion was that tapping up players has always gone on and always will to some degree. It is maybe a bit easier to hide behind agents and third parties these days than it was years ago but I think even an indirect approach - I. e. To an agent is tapping up. I know clubs often give players agents approval or even instructions to find a new club for a player maybe even with guidelines as to what a sell price may be. More often than not all of the above happens in secret.

You make a very good point that too much information seems to be leaked out of LFC and whilst it seems clear that the club has acted beyond what can be excusable (I. e. A sounding out of an agent etc. ) and especially with meeting the player directly, the leaks to the press in my view is what has really caused the most problems.

I hope there is a full investigation internally and these internal problems are fixed now or we could have a long summer of problems in the transfer market.

Poor Scouser Tommy

{Ed001's Note - not just a long summer, it will be the same every transfer window until we fix the internal problems.}

But he is not doing any of this for money Ed :-)

After all the 20 year old world beater has a divine right to play CL every year and win trophies!

Joking aside, if he was to buy out his contract and thus become a free agent, am I right in saying that LFC would still be due compensation from his next club due to his age?

Poor Scouser Tommy

{Ed002's Note - QPR and Liverpool would be due money.}

according to Carra it looks like they are promoting Linders from the U16s. If this is true - do you see this as a good move? I believe he has a good reputation - but that it down to his development of young players.

Poor Scouser Tommy

{Ed001's Note - this has been discussed to death over the last few days mate, yes I do think it is a good move.}
