Having just read a BBC article on Hansi Flick, I got to wondering how well suited he would be for Liverpool. Would he be a good fit, and if so is he a viable option?

1.) 25 Mar 2024 07:00:15
He’s not been in work since getting sacked from the Germany job, which was an absolute train wreck. He’s way past his sell by date, he should be in the dregs pile with Nagelsmann, Tuchel, De Zerbi etc.

2.) 25 Mar 2024 09:05:10
For the millionth time, stop exaggerating @Victor.

Alonso or nothing isn’t a sensible plan.

3.) 25 Mar 2024 10:29:19
WDW is right, we all want Alonso but have to be open to the idea of someone else coming in, there's no guarantee we get Alonso. If we don't then I don't know who I'd want but not thinking that far ahead, let's just enjoy the season whilst we still have Klopp.

4.) 25 Mar 2024 12:08:46
Now now WDW, Victor has a backup plan: Diego Simeone.

Or at least that's the only other manager apart from Alonso I've seen him say anything about other than 'he's not good enough'.

5.) 25 Mar 2024 12:09:47
Might as well get Lijnders. Flick (forever the assistant at Bayern or at Germany) did his best work as an assistant who later took over at Bayern, won the treble in 19/ 20, got the job permanently, messed up. Got the Germany job and then, messed up. I think I've just about covered it.

6.) 25 Mar 2024 13:23:06
I’d be happy with Nagelsmann. It doesn’t bother me what he got up to we a reporter. I think he would be a decent option.

7.) 25 Mar 2024 13:44:47
I personally want Roger Schmidt. I think our squad is more suited to the way he plays. He also has a lot more experience than Xabi.

Not saying I don't want Xabi, he just isn't my first choice. Ruben Amorim would be my 2nd choice as well. Xabi is probably my 3rd choice though after Schmidt and Amorim.

8.) 25 Mar 2024 14:09:47
Roger Schmidt’s CV doesn’t fill me with optimism. However, neither does Alonso’s.

It is such a difficult role to appoint the right person for. I am quite excited to see the outcome.

9.) 25 Mar 2024 15:55:08
Interest viewpoint, MK. Not one I agree with, but life's all about opinion. You've put forward a name I haven't seen mentioned before. It's always been Alonso for me, though my knowledge of European managers is slim.

10.) 25 Mar 2024 15:56:29
German national team are and have been for many years been awful hansy stepped in when it was all going tits up after winning a treble at Bayern and was the hottest property around i think he would suite us to replace Klopp if Mr Edwards wanted it.

11.) 25 Mar 2024 16:23:18
What's up, MKS! Ain't seen you for a while. Hope all is well. Schmidt? You mean the manager who signed a young Sadio Mane at RB Salzburg in 2013 or so? Now that's a blast from the past, lol. Nah, not for me. He's old news. About a decade ago? Maybe.

12.) 25 Mar 2024 16:27:45
@IR, Not arsed about Nagelsmann and his personal scruples either BUT he ain't it for me. Seems he takes any job that comes his way regardless of who it is (he was going to take the Chelsea job right after the Bayern job till Poch got it) and frankly, I think he lacks the humility to be a steward of our great club. Seems a bit pompous in his comments since his Hoff. days and that rubs me the wrong way.

Decent? Nah, we can do a lot better than decent, IMO and Alonso is the guy. Now if he is not available (which is his choice) then, I guess it could be Amorim and I can't talk about him cos I don't know him. Oh, and De Zerbi (who has made Brighton literally worse) can stay exactly where he is at Brighton and keep the heck away from my club, as well. Just my take.

13.) 25 Mar 2024 17:30:38
Hansi Flick is up there on my options.

Certainly behind Alonso who is clearly first choice but ahead of De Zerbi, Naglesmann and others.

Probably third on my list.

I'd probably go
Alonso
Amorim
Flick

In that order.

14.) 25 Mar 2024 19:35:02
Amorim would be a decent option ??.

15.) 25 Mar 2024 21:36:19
I agree with Davey, my top 3 would be Alonso, Amorim and Flick in that order.

16.) 25 Mar 2024 22:02:02
Amorim would be the better option.

17.) 25 Mar 2024 22:14:00
Im not so sure about Herr Flick myself, I along with most people hope that Xabi will grant us a potential fairytale.
I think that Liverpool have a great squad that he would make good use of and the big advantage he has for me is that he knows the league and the rigorous demands of it.

18.) 25 Mar 2024 22:17:11
Schmidt, De Zerbi, Flick, Nagelsmann are at best a smorgasbord of mediocrity not one of them are even remotely fit to take the job. Schmidt’s CV is hardly inspiring and has fail written all over him it would be just another Roy Hodgson type appointment, De Zerbi has made Brighton worse, his teams can’t defend at all, Flick has only ever had success with the best team in the league with unlimited resources and has been found out for his lack of ability in the Germany job, Nagelsmann is an appalling option, tactically inept, an opinion of his own ability which far exceeds his ability, vain beyond belief, showed extremely poor judgement by leaking personal stories about his players to the journalist he was having an affair with and let’s not of course forget that he slagged us off in the press saying he has no respect for us as a club - in no way is that man suitable for the post. He’s like Brendan Rodgers. Another imbecile who believed his own hype. If we end up with any of those listed above then we’re in for a difficult 18 months until we get rid.

19.) 25 Mar 2024 23:31:03
Oh no, Victor is going all Sander Berge/ Adama Traore on us again.

20.) 26 Mar 2024 04:33:46
While that is a lot of exaggeration and hyperbole, I can somewhat understand where VV is coming from. Alonso is just seemingly a cut above the rest that it does feel like we would have failed if we don't manage to bring him on board. Still, there is a bunch of other clubs who are looking at new managers too so it's definitely not a certainty that he would join us.

Of those names listed, I would dislike De Zerbi and Nagelsmann joining us. Like VV mentioned, I think that De Zerbi is slowly bringing Brighton backwards and Nagelsmann is giving me Rodgers' vibes. I would not want either of them as manager.

Schmidt and Flick though I would be open to as secondary options. They seem to have quite a good record in club football and have won things wherever they went.

21.) 26 Mar 2024 08:39:30
Emre at villa is my realistic choice after alonso. But if Madrid give carlo the boot for alonso my dream is to grab him. class manager!

22.) 26 Mar 2024 09:46:14
The childish bit of me would like to see Herr Flick as manager, but I have a soft spot for crap BBC ‘end of the pier’ comedy.

23.) 26 Mar 2024 12:23:19
Tbf, I kind of agree with Victor about de Zerbi. He doesn't convince me at all.

Genuinely don't know enough about the likes of Flick and Nagelsmann to judge them.

24.) 26 Mar 2024 12:59:47
Rsanchez69, i think Carlo Ancelotti becoming our next manager would be the ultimate plot twist that no-one saw coming.

25.) 26 Mar 2024 13:16:29
Alonso and then Amorim for me. Article from BBC a little while back giving stats on the most likely candidates.

26.) 26 Mar 2024 13:27:30
I have no idea how anyone understands a word Emre says it is near impossible. Would be frustrating for a player. I think Victors post is spot on just as he was with Berge and Traore. Good managers are rare only Alonso and Amorim are noteworthy. I very much doubt Liverpool are daft enough to employ De Zerbi so I wouldn’t worry about that.

27.) 26 Mar 2024 17:44:43
I think Girona's Michel is an excellent coach and from what I've seen would be a very good fit.

28.) 27 Mar 2024 11:39:48
Don’t City group own Girona? If Michel impresses then he might very well be in line for Citeh when Guardiola decides to move on and - God forbid - try and use talent rather than endless pots of money to achieve success.

Been watching a few clips of Jurgen rightly praising Kellehers recent performances. I suspect no one has explained to him what a “qweef” is but now it’s too late to clarify!

RN7726

1.) 02 Mar 2024 09:20:43
I thought he was saying queev.

2.) 02 Mar 2024 10:49:55
Probably just my mucky mind…. I hope we can keep him at the club as he is such a good keeper. Alison does a miss a game or two and it is so reassuring to know Kelleher is there in the wings. He would be a great no 1 for any club. Hopefully ours in the future.

3.) 02 Mar 2024 10:53:27
Its Kweev.

4.) 02 Mar 2024 11:30:53
Yeah it’s pronounced Kweev. It’s his name. It’s the Irish equivalent of Kev.

5.) 02 Mar 2024 12:40:56
So can I call him "Qev"?

08 May 2021 22:45:35
I just watched Andy Robertson doing a post match interview and he conducted himself really really well. I have long been a fan of his playing talent but perhaps under estimated the impact he looks capable of having at motivating the squad especially in the absence of Hendo and Milie Do we have many of those characters elsewhere in the squad?

RN7726

1.) 09 May 2021 00:59:57
Henderson, Milner, Salah, Robertson, Thiago and Van Dijk to name the main leaders in my opinion.

2.) 09 May 2021 01:05:49
Doesn't look like it.
I think if we had more leaders of that ilk the we would have dropped as many points even without VVD, Hendo et al.

3.) 09 May 2021 04:53:50
I think it’s well established that VVD, Henderson and Milner are the main leaders in our squad, that probably explains why we have struggled so much in the second half of the season. We are lucky to have three leaders like them, most teams don’t have any.

4.) 09 May 2021 08:30:50
This isn’t to knock Hendo but he was injured towards the end of Feb and he played in 10 of the 11 games where we went into free fall after the Palace game. Drew 3 won 2 lost 5. It’s great that we do have so many leaders on the pitch but this season has been down to poor performances, poor decision making, lack of intensity and what looks like mental exhaustion. It’ll be a clean slate come the summer but this existing squad already have things up against them like the Euros (same as every other team) Olympics and African Nations.

Had a few good nights in the Hull area, starting in Beverley then into Hull to the Tower!

Reading some of the negativity that gets spouted by some people reminds me of a room of spoiled brats. I agree that performances are not what we have come to expect in recent history but I love where our club is at. The league is still achievable and there is a real chance that 1 or 2 youngsters can come through to the first team and really contribute. And I agree with a previous post that we have a very real shout in the CL. There is not a club in the comp that would fancy meeting us in the draw. Incoming players is always exciting but we do have a great squad .

I do admire you MK. you voice concerns that I sometimes have regarding pricing squad players out of moves that our club and their careers could benefit from. But in the grand scheme of things the hierarchy do a great job. I don’t know how long we can continue to ask big bucks for our outgoing players when recent big money transfers out have been so unsuccessful, (Solanke Brewster) . I agree, it is ok to make constructive observations as long as we recognise how amazing the club as a whole is performing right now.

Can someone explain why Grujic apparently struggles to obtain a'work permit'? Is this an issue that other footballers need to overcome, with so many foreign natioal players playing throughout the leagues, why does he apparently struggle. Stay healthy.

RN7726

{Ed002's Note - He did not meet the WP criteria when he originally signed so an special exception was requested and a representative of Liverpool lied about him the to board who granted him a work permit.}

I think the lack of goals from midfield is as a result of the system that our team employs. Gino looks more than capable of scoring when in the international team. I sometimes wonder if his desire to move on was perhaps because he felt stifled in his Liverpool role.

Aray. I agree that a win at City is more valuable that at Atalanta but we shouldn't underestimate momentum. I do feel that we can rotate in Europe and push hard for the big win then have our "Best 11" (if there is such a thing now) for vity. Hopefully one of the less regular starters will put in a performance that earns him a City start.

The squad is having to deal with a lot of injuries right now but for the first time in many a year I do feel like if JK did rotate the squad I would still feel relatively confident and excited to see how the team plays with Minamino, jota, Shaq etc. For a long time and until very recently, rotation meant nerves and anxiety in my house. Life is good.
