Hi Ed002

We are being linked to a player named Martin Terrier by a couple of media outlets.

Are you aware of Liverpool having an interest in the player?

Thanks in advance.

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - Martin Terrier (LW/F) one of three attacking arrivals last summer and he has settled far better than Serhou Guirassy and Jeremy Doku. Has been watched by Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs. Spurs will look to an offer this summer.}

Famed for his dogged determination.

Sorry - couldn’t stop myself.

Hi Eds

Just wondering if there has been any news regarding Bobby being fit for the final?

Thanks!

RedHerring

{Ed001's Note - the club are hopeful he will be fit.}

Hi Ed002

I remember you mentioning previously that our loan system was a bit of a disaster. I have read Michael Edwards' open letter to fans in which he mentions that his successor, Julian Ward, has been responsible for revamping that particular part of our club.

Just wondering how you think he has done in that regard?

Thanks!

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - I think it remains generally poor and apart from possibly Sepp van den Berg and perhaps Leighton Clarkson none of the loanees will make it at Liverpool. They are generally sent out to clubs playing at a much lower level (Spanish second tier, league of Wales, fourth tier in England with a few in the Scottish Premier League or the Championship. I would expect the club to be open to offers for most of them.}

1.) 14 Nov 2021 11:50:27
Ed is that an issue with the loan system itself or just the fact the players in our academy we are loaning out aren't good enough?

{Ed002's Note - Many clubs lack a plausible route map for players and whilst Liverpool do have some very good youngsters they, like most clubs, have many that will never step up. Players like Ben Woodburn, Sheyi Ojo and Anderson Arroyo are not going to make it at Liverpool and the club should look to letting them move on.}

2.) 14 Nov 2021 12:15:26
We have got 3 youngsters who can play in the first team since Klopp has been here. TAA, Elliot and Jones. It is very very difficult. I think 3 in 6 years is probably par for the course. We hopefully have Gordon who will be the next one.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea and Bayern Munich set themselves a target of one a season.}

3.) 14 Nov 2021 14:04:48
Arguably Neco Williams too mark.

4.) 14 Nov 2021 17:59:15
Bayern and Chelsea must have a first 11 full of academy graduates so! Its allright setting targets its another thing meeting them.5 players in Kelleher, WIlliams, Trent, Jones and Elliott in our senior squad is very good and the standard of kids coming through is only improving.

5.) 14 Nov 2021 23:52:52
I agree jadon although to be fair Chelsea have brought through a number more recently to the first team due to lampard and the ban they had.
The actual loans themselves, which ed002 referred to, have not generally been great for some time. few players will make it or have improved. Woodburn for example for various reasons has not been able to use those to his advantage - factors such as club, league, quality of player should all be considered.

However, we have a few first team potential players in the u21 and u18 so will be interested to see their developments. both on loan and with first team.

6.) 15 Nov 2021 05:33:09
Liverpool's old model use to be (correct me if i'm wrong), one new player bought in, and one from within the system.

28 Jul 2021 06:03:53
Question for Ed002 if possible. Apologies in advance if this has been answered already, but I could not find it via the search function.

Regarding the current financial model in place that you have described as "hand-to-mouth", what steps do Liverpool need to take to move to a more stable model that would allow us to be less affected by any C.V.-like situation in the future? Do you know if Liverpool are actively trying to change their financial model?

Thanks!

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - The club cannot account for pandemics, disasters or wars unless they have access to large amounts of money. It would take some years of spending being reduced to address the issue. The owners are investors so their focus is on the value of the club and the growth opportunity.}

1.) 28 Jul 2021 10:43:55
I think it’s time for FSG to sell up. This isn’t me bashing the owners either, I’ve always been FSG in up until the super league debacle but it seems they’ve taken us as far as they can. We need owners who see us as more than just a business to sell in the future. The owners have helped make us one of the best teams in the world again but we need to be able to compete financially to stay there, that’s the hard truth of it. I’m not talking about £100m signings every year but the fact we’re selling players just to cover the costs of previous transfers is worrying.

2.) 28 Jul 2021 11:38:39
@JK -
Maybe it's just me, but I kind the fact that we have to sell players to buy.
Sustainable living! Makes it all the more satisfying when we win something.
Also, those lads we sold get to move on in their careers - and play instead of sitting on the bench!

3.) 28 Jul 2021 12:21:57
Agreed JK.

4.) 28 Jul 2021 12:28:34
@molby I get your points but it’s a very slippery slope. What happens when all the fringe players are gone, we’ve barely paid for our previous transfers and we still need further players? We then have to start selling the top players which further reduces our chances of competing.

5.) 28 Jul 2021 12:58:38
JK_Red, surely the aim is to get the academy producing more players? Players like Wisdom, Wilson, Smith, Ibe, Ojo, Ejaria, Canos, Camacho, Chirivella, Brewster, Ward etc. Players who we either scout as under 13's, or sign between 13-18 for low fees with a view to making a profit by putting reasonable prices on their heads once it's clear they have no future at Liverpool.

There is a lot to be gained from that approach. It's how Chelsea are spending so much within FFP rules. They have 20+ players on loan every year and just sold a guy to Palace who i'd never heard of for £20m. Our business model of selling 1st team players to buy new ones is poor. Plus with the academy approach, if you're really lucky you get the odd Trent or Elliott wonderkid!

I don't particularly like the idea of farming young players, but it's the only way we'll compete financially with a commercial juggernaut like Man Utd, or teams who can buy their way out of FFP trouble like Man City. Chelsea have a very good and sustainable model.

6.) 28 Jul 2021 12:59:27
FSG need to sell up before Klopps contract ends. Because no other manager could cope with this.

{Ed002's Note - All managers of all clubs have to work within the constraints of FFP. What is the problem with the owners?}

7.) 28 Jul 2021 14:29:37
I suppose we should wait to see what we, and our direct rivals spend this window before slaughtering them. I do agree though that i think only Klopp at the moment is capable of keeping us competitive over the next few year.

8.) 28 Jul 2021 14:48:06
Spot on, MKS. That's all I hear and read: "FSG need to sell up" or "We need to capitalize on Klopp while he's still here" and all that. WHo should LFC sell up to cos the only way to go if people want that type of spending is to sell to an Oil rich government or an oligarch who we will owe all types of money to like Chelsea owe Abramovitch, allegedly so which is it?

Also, what is wrong with living within your means as a club? Athletico Madrid do it and are still more than competitive and many other clubs do that so what's the problem? As for the "sell to buy" stuff, that's another myth, a stick to beat the owners with. How did people think RM were able to BUY James Rodriguez who cost them over 60m in 2014? They SOLD a certain Angel Di Maria to the mancs for 65m BUT that's not sell to buy now, is it? But when LFC sell Cou to fund VVD, Fab or Ali, "we are a sell to buy club". Again, every club does it in a certain way. It's called "Balancing The Books". Barcelona haven't been doing that and they might as well be in Administration right now.

Another example Chelsea do it very well and make bank on it to the point that they don't need Roman's money as much anymore. We have done it very well and that has led us to be successful. What would people prefer? That we do a Barcelona or a Malaga where the Sheikhs just left them for dead afterwards? Now, Do we need tweaks for more cash flow? Absolutely esp under this new climate and I am sure things are lined up to this effect. I'm happy with how we are run overall even IF it means we NEVER go into administration again (where FSG found us, btw) or do a Barca, Pompey or a Malaga. Cheers.

Ed0025 - Going to have to find a different tune to LiVARpool as it has just been shown it is most definitely EVARton.

{Ed025's Note - some would say justice for last season RH...not me of course.. :)

A question for Ed002 perhaps, apologies in advance if this is not the place to ask, but I am curious about something regarding TV deals.

As I understand it the Premier League negotiates the deals with the bidding broadcasters, be it Sky or whoever. My question is does the Premier League negotiate the rights with broadcasters in foreign countries, or is this a negotiation between the broadcasters in England and the broadcasters in the foreign country?

As a South African I am curious to know whether other broadcasters (I have just read that Amazon could potentially look to buy rights to some games) purchasing rights for matches could effect the amount of games shown here?

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - The PL games for showing in the UK are "auctioned" by the Premier League. There are a couple of packages to go and it is very likely Amazon will buy one which will let them show 20 games via paid for streaming spread over two weekends or midweeks periods - so they will stream all of one week's game on two occasions as I recall.

SuperSport have the English language rights in sub-Saharan Africa - which they have done for many years. That won't change.}

Thank you!

good to see a fellow South African on here 🇿🇦.

This probably won't get posted as it will likely draw kind of abuse that has led to this post in the first place, but anyway this one's for you Ed002.

Now admittedly I missed the incident that has resulted in Ed002 no longer sharing transfer information with the rest of us. But I can pretty much gather the vegetables finally drove the man away.

So for starters I think it's fair to state that i have never heard Ed002 be boastful in any way about his connections within the game. He has only ever passed on what information he has and for that a lot of us are extremely grateful. He has not claimed to know everything, he has happily admitted deals get done without his knowledge, he is not an all knowing oracle, he is a man that has information that the majority of us would really like to share in.

I can't actually imagine what reason somebody would have for sending abuse to someone that is doing what I have described above, but then again I cannot imagine what reason someone would have for hurling objects at a bus. There is a very famous George Carlin quote about such people.

That said I can 100% understand Ed002's stance. Why would anybody give their time freely to be abused for doing nothing other than what they are supposed to do on this forum. He probably lasted longer than he should have to be honest, any longer and questions would have to be asked of his sanity

All the best to you and yours sir. Your information will be sorely missed but I am glad to see you are still with us.

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - Thanks but I should make it clear it is not just about Liverpool.}

1.) 04 May 2018 17:13:19
Ed2 I have been reading this website for about 10 years now and posting off and on under different names over the years and I respect your decision. Website and Liverpool forum aside hope all is well your side.

{Ed002's Note - Everything is fine, thanks.}

2.) 04 May 2018 17:31:05
I do believe that Ed002 know's that the majority of the fan's on here really do have massive respect for him.

3.) 04 May 2018 17:31:38
Please don’t go Ed002, you are one of the best :)

4.) 04 May 2018 19:41:55
Question for Ed002 please?
What can we has fans of you and the site do to get you to change your mind? The site just isn't the same without your input! But I do love the work all the Eds do (not a dig at them) Were richer as football fans for all the information you share and I really miss your knowledge but respect your decision.

{Ed002's Note - Right now I will ensure posts get through but I am not providing anything regarding transfers.}

5.) 04 May 2018 21:09:13
Ed002 - My post didn't get through because? (Just wondering, nothing more. I understand it is the Eds' prerogative to post or not post. If you wish to share then fine, if not, also just as fine 👍) .

Perhaps he would be considered as a replacement for Can, considering we were planning on bringing in Keita and keeping Can. I also have not seen much of him, so perhaps someone with more insight could let us know what kind of player he is?

RedHerring

{Ed002's Note - He is not a replacement for Can. Liverpool saw him as an option for Keita. Other sides are keen - including Juventus, who want Can as well.}

Surely if we just contacted the club we wish to buy from first and placed a bid they, or the agent would then inform the player of our bid and if the player was so keen to join us as many say VVD is then we could move along with some civil negotiations. Whereas our current method of doing things achieves the same result of the player knowing of our interest but gets the selling clubs back up, resulting in them telling us to pay over the odds or get bent. This just seems like sheer stupidity to me.

This has to be an Ed's kryptonite. Random name to replace a player we need not replace. Swap deal including another random name you admittedly know nothing about. Just why?

Isn't the 3rd kit the European away kit? So makes sense they would release it closer to the CL fixtures commencing.

Unfortunately some people will just do things for no other reason than to ruin it for everyone else. These dimwits know that Ed002 is rightly not going to put up with the abuse and so he will just wash his hands. Why would anybody put up with abuse? Especially for no remuneration.

If you are tempted to send an abusive post to an editor who gives us information that we cannot get anywhere else, please just stop and rather focus on getting your life together so that you can move out of mommy and daddy's home and become less bitter.

My concern is that when he played against us he came up against a very high line which will not be the case when playing for us. Hopefully he will manage to be as effective against deeper lying defenses.

Or perhaps the surprise to Liverpool is that no one will be willing to match the prices that they set.
