Question for the eds. Reports surfacing or resurfacing of some potential investment and linking up on some way shape or form with toulouse. Not the Billy bean guy but someone else that wants to invest in European clubs. Apparently the deal could be done in a couple months. Bullsssst or real deal?

RedScarface

{Ed002's Note - It is the samething without Billy Beane and all of his money. Redbird is the remnants of the Redball investment company that Gerry Cardinale and Billy Beane (a self-confessed Liverpool supporter who owns much of the Oakland As and is the "moneyball" guru) set up last year to buy 20% of FSG (not of Liverpool per se, but of all FSC assets - so part of Liverpool, the Red Sox, the racing business etc.). Whilst they had raised circa £400M through a public offering they could not raise the further £700M required to make that happen. At this point Billy Beane stepped away leaving Cardinale and his Redbird investment company that he used as a vehicle to buy Toulouse (and appoint Damien Comolli as their Chairman). Whilst FSG would like an investor to sell part of Liverpool to (particularly given their major financial issues at the moment), it is questionable whether any of the high-profile expensive EPL sides has the growth potential of other sides across Europe meaning that a merger-like solution would suit everyone best. Clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea will see growth potential flatten out whilst the chance of growth remains elsewhere - and remember these folks are investing other people's money - not their own. As such Cardinale has a plan to slowly merge with FSG rather than simply invest in it – his vision being creating another City Group or Red Bull type set up. Noteworthy is that the former Premier League chair Richard Scudamore joined the board of the now shelved Billy Beane RedBall Acquisition Corporation and he has been giving advice. At that point they were looking for investment funds to go beyond a merger and look to buy a decent club in mainland Europe or the lower end of the Premier League as well – that idea is shelved for now.}

1.) 01 Mar 2021 10:00:13
Thanks Ed. Hope it goes through and at least some funds are made avaliable for improving the squad. Would this link up help us commercially? I'm sure the big clubs are always trying to find new ways to squeeze more money into the clubs.

{Ed002's Note - The money goes to the owners not the club.}

2.) 01 Mar 2021 10:08:47
What’s your thoughts on Damien Comolli ed002?
He always comes in for a lot of ridicule but seems to always land himself top jobs.

{Ed002's Note - You should go back and find what I said when Liverpool appointed him.}

03 Feb 2021 11:58:27
Eds just a question regarding out if contract players this summer. Do you see any of them possibly coming to us? Seen donnarumma is out of contract and at 21 would surely be a no brainer.

RedScarface

{Ed002's Note - Donnarumma won't be moving as a Free Agent and certainly not to Liverpool. I am not aware of any Free Agents Liverpool have been looking to agree a Pre-Contract with.}

1.) 03 Feb 2021 12:13:18
I have no idea if he is any good, but it won't make sense for a keeper who's played in the first team for 4 years to come and sit behind Alisson for the next 6 years.

2.) 03 Feb 2021 12:18:50
Struggling to see why this would be a no brainer, astronomical wages/ sign on fee. Massive issues off the field, crooked agent and would demand to be first choice.

3.) 03 Feb 2021 12:52:21
How is signing donnarumma a no brainer? We have Alisson who is twice the keeper. We are not going to pay 300k a week wages for a back up keeper to play against Hull and Crewe in the Carabao cup.

4.) 04 Feb 2021 13:56:14
Has he done a runner?

24 Jan 2021 12:35:32
Ed. Any chance if business being done with West ham for diop using origi in some way? Clutching at straws i know but west ham are looking for a striker.

RedScarface

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath.}

1.) 24 Jan 2021 15:53:30
Origi? But you said West Ham were looking for a striker?

Sorry, couldn’t resist 😉.

2.) 24 Jan 2021 18:21:54
Nono they are looking to replace Haller right?

3.) 24 Jan 2021 22:57:10
Origi is a legend, them two goals V Barcelona will always be remembered,
but he seems to have been left behind,
Liverpool will want about 20 Mill for him, but, I would
take 12 Million,
money is soo tight,
we really need, to sell to buy .

{Ed0666's Note - I love Divvy for all sorts of reasons. Class personified and won us the CL. But I also concur with you Kop he’s not dating well and needs to move on to resurrect his career. He doesn’t deserve to only play a handful of games a year. He’s too good and we owe him more than that. 20 million? No chance.

22 Dec 2020 11:52:05
Read an article that depay could be avaliable for only 5mill. Surely if origi goes he would add some extra depth to our bench.

RedScarface

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have no interest in him and when he moves it will be to play.}

1.) 22 Dec 2020 13:20:45
i do love this whole idea that when one of our players who are rarely playing is set to leave we MUST replace him with someone.

If origi left we could very easily just absorb any of the potential minutes he would have had by existing players.

Depay is not going to come to liverpool to "add some extra depth to our bench" he will want to be a constant starter.

12 Dec 2019 18:03:04
Quick question ed. Is Karius still being permanently offloaded? If so what is the rough figure we are expecting? If those funds pay for milamino then we have still technically not spent.

RedScarface

{Ed001's Note - yes he is being sold but it doesn't work like that.}

1.) 12 Dec 2019 19:39:55
Hey Ed1, Seen the links to the Salzburg lad, milamino, but I was more impressed with the Korean lad, what’s think?

{Ed001's Note - Lee Hwang? No end product at all though with him. At least Minamino was just inconsistent.}

2.) 13 Dec 2019 03:05:01
Best to get Haaland if the rumours of 17.5m clause are true. these 2 would replace shaw in squad also cover for wings/ firmino.

3.) 13 Dec 2019 08:19:36
Halaand doesn't strike me as our 'type' of forward.

4.) 13 Dec 2019 13:25:16
He is good but just reminds me of a Shearer type of striker. I don't think he has the mobility to play in our forward line.

A very good player, but not suited to our type of play.

5.) 13 Dec 2019 15:15:46
Jaysus Walter, you must REALLY like Jurgen if you want his statue to have an erection!

24 Oct 2021 19:09:01
We should of treated them like they treated Southampton. disrespectfully.

RedScarface

1.) 24 Oct 2021 19:18:17
Oh, the entire football world will be laughing at them with today's performance. They've disrespected themselves with how they played today, and a lot has to be chopped off and replaced; coaching staff, players, tactical strategies.

2.) 24 Oct 2021 19:19:36
Football can change in an instant. They can sack Ole and get a good manager in and then might batter us the next time me meet. Let's be gracious and not humiliate anyone. As Liverpool fans you should know better as we were the taunted and made fun of for 30 years. Humility and respect from me to a great club.

{Ed0666's Note - Fu*k that 😂

3.) 24 Oct 2021 19:23:10
Crazy horse - nah.

4.) 24 Oct 2021 19:26:16
Insane performance. I think that should settle any debate as to whether Salah is worth his corn.

5.) 24 Oct 2021 19:28:52
Not happening CH😃.

6.) 24 Oct 2021 19:29:25
Agreed. Be humble and respectful. That's why we stopped at 5-0. Otherwise it would have been 8 or 10-0. And Ole will be gone on Monday or Tuesday morning. Bring on the new one. It's the players that play on the field, and I don't see anything spectacular coming out from this bunch.

{Ed014's Note - I’ve said from day one I don’t rate their squad at all, Greenwood and Rashford and it stops there for me

7.) 24 Oct 2021 19:40:32
Ed014 it's mind boggling. For their frontline they have a choice of Ronaldo, Cavani, Rashford, Martial, Sancho, Greenwood and Fernandes and Lingard, in support, and they still can't get that right. And in defense they can choose from Varane, Maguire, Bailly and Lindelof, but even that is too much to organize and operate properly. Just mind bending stuff.

{Ed014's Note - it is mate and for me buying Ronaldo was a big mistake

8.) 24 Oct 2021 19:42:15
A couple of weeks ago someone said here utd had a better squad than Liverpool. I can't remember who said it but give your head a wobble mate that club is a shambles at the moment. Give ole an extended contract by 5 years.

{Ed014's Note - a proper wobble! 🤦‍♂️

9.) 24 Oct 2021 19:47:25
Crazy Horse is right. Showing them a bit of respect doesn't hurt. We've still got to equal their record of championships.

10.) 24 Oct 2021 20:08:51
I read on the BBC that the last time United didn’t score at Old Trafford and lost by 5 or more was in 1955. 66 years! Incredible!

I agree with Ed14 - Greenwood, Rashford and perhaps Sancho if they find a manager who can develop young players and that’s about it for United.

I can’t believe we ever considered signing Luke Shaw although to be fair his bad injury may have stopped his progress.

Just imagine if we’d played our fully fit first 11 :)

11.) 24 Oct 2021 20:21:04
Ed014, if you read what Chiellini said about Ronaldo you would agree.
Saying, though Ronaldo's goals helped win the league, he left the team with a broken ethos.
Because Ronald didn't track back or work hard other players thought they didn't have to and this broke the team spirit they had since before he arrived.
Interesting read, even if it was in Italian.

{Ed014's Note - I believe it mate, they had Cavani who is clearly much more of a grafter as great striker in his on right.

It was just sentimental bollox, he even wanted City but they said no thanks, then he comes out with all that this is for you SAF! Yeah of course it was! 🤦‍♂️

12.) 24 Oct 2021 23:33:00
It was also the Glazers trying to say sorry for the Super League fiasco.

13.) 24 Oct 2021 22:22:52
It was for the money Ed014, that alone. If Spurs had offered more he would have went there.

{Ed014's Note - he did ask his agent to sound out City first though mate but little doubt he’d want huge wages wherever he went and United are stupid enough to pay massive wages.

08 Oct 2021 20:55:58
6 years if klopp. Still the best birthday present I've ever had. Maybe we could share our favourite match/ moment if his tenure. winning the league should be but empty stadiums kinda killed that vibe.

So for me it would have to be number 6.

RedScarface

{Ed014's Note - as a neutral the Barca game was THE highlight!

1.) 08 Oct 2021 21:17:09
I got in so much trouble that night lol.

2.) 08 Oct 2021 22:26:35
Some of the highlights.

Dortmund Comeback.
3-0 vs. City in champions league.
4-0 vs. Leicester after the club world cup
2-0 vs. Man Utd “We’re gunna win the league”
2-0 vs. Spurs - number 6

But it has to be the Barcelona game. I think that game really rattled them. Barcelona have not been the same since and what match it was 10/ 10 performances from everyone on the pitch.

3.) 08 Oct 2021 22:49:12
besides the obvious ones that first 0-0 versus Spurs stands out for me. in a short time you could see already the identity getting across to the players, we just had no where near the condition to do it. So it took time. But I remember watching that and thinking 'wow' we have a manager here. it really helped me become a believer from the beginning and also be patient whilst watching the development happen.

4.) 08 Oct 2021 22:54:12
Loved the 2 leg europa last 16 win over Manure and Henderson’s goal against Chelsea.

5.) 08 Oct 2021 23:22:39
The Dortmund comeback for me - it was the game, and spirit in it, that really made me believe we were in for an amazing ride under Klopp. It’s been a great ride so far.

6.) 08 Oct 2021 23:28:26
No game in particular, but seeing Klopp run onto the pitch to hug Allison in the Everton match I will never forget.

Also, the words "Messi mashed on Merseyside" from the BT Sport commentator as the final whistle went in the Barcelona game.

7.) 08 Oct 2021 23:32:14
Barcelona game all day long lad's.

8.) 09 Oct 2021 00:26:28
All brilliant games butte mancs 3-1 when Jose got the sack next day “ shhhhhhush that lad”.

9.) 09 Oct 2021 05:32:18
Not so much a particular match (although the 4-0 at Leicester convinced me we’d win the league from there) but I loved the period of Klopp’s flying glasses when he broke several pairs after Liverpool goals, and his fist celebrations to the Kop never fails to stir the blood, even now. 💪.

10.) 09 Oct 2021 07:25:07
The Barcelona game without a doubt. That's the first time I saw grown players (Barca's) want to cry and take the first flight home but unable to show it because they're adult professionals. We were without 2 of our front 3, and we shredded them to bits. And a young kid (TAA) gave them a lifelong lesson in football smarts and focus.

11.) 09 Oct 2021 08:54:23
There’s a few for me! Lovern against Dortmund!
Shaq killing off Jose!
But the Barcelona come back 👌🏻.

12.) 09 Oct 2021 10:13:35
Yeah Barcelona game for me as well, what a game.

13.) 11 Oct 2021 21:26:31
The first great memory for me was when we went to the Emptyhad and roasted City 4-1 under Pellegrini. That is when I knew we were on to something. The 4-3 beating at Arsenal in the opening game the season after, convinced me that we would be very good and would make top 4 at Arsenal’s expense. Too many great memories for me, tbh.

05 Oct 2021 18:46:44
Not going to happen but if fsg stump up a deal for vlahovic and bissouma in January I think I'll tent my shorts.

RedScarface

1.) 05 Oct 2021 19:10:26
Thanks for the visual image for what would have otherwise been quite a pleasant surprise!

{Ed025's Note - love it zed..

2.) 05 Oct 2021 20:18:34
Loool sorry zed.

3.) 05 Oct 2021 20:35:58
Vlahovic isn’t happening. He’s beyond our budget and Ed002 has said that there’s interest in him from others who can stump up the cold hard cash.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m sure we could afford him if we paid a penny a week for the next 1850,000000 years.

4.) 06 Oct 2021 11:44:57
RedScarface means that we'll sign the pair of them but he's unable to tent his shorts.
Pele might be able to help you with your predickament, RedScarface.

5.) 06 Oct 2021 14:25:55
My suggestion is that you try the other, and more effective, ways to tent your shorts. Most will agree that you're bound to be disappointed if you depend on football for that.

08 Sep 2021 20:27:31
Eds. What is the view on Phillips? Is he being watched by us at all? Surely his form over the last 12 months should have heads turning in his direction.

RedScarface

{Ed002's Note - No, Liverpool cannot sign all of the players with stupid haircuts.}

1.) 08 Sep 2021 22:40:35
MOTD fever right there.

2.) 09 Sep 2021 02:06:59
I thought we already extended Phillips contract and didn't think his buzz cut is that bad a haircut.

3.) 08 Sep 2021 23:20:33
I was going to ask Ed001s opinion on Philips. My father thinks he’s world class, but I just don’t see anything special. In one of the Euro knockout games (can’t remember which one) I thought he was really poor, and the game passed him by. If your around Ed001 grateful for your thoughts. I’m happy to be put right if I’m being too harsh?

{Ed001's Note - I am guessing you mean Kalvin? I like him, not convinced he is world class, but he is a very good playmaker. He plays deep for Leeds as it is about putting him in a position to launch quick counters, but for England it is under the clueless waistcoated one and so defensive. He is not a defensive midfielder. He is a playmaker and has a very good range of passing and the vision to match.}

4.) 09 Sep 2021 07:29:22
Cheers Ed001, yes that the one I meant. I’ll have a chance to watch him at the weekend.

5.) 09 Sep 2021 09:47:12
I've not really bought into Phillips as a top player yet but you can see he can be even better. I've only seen him play well for England once though, and Leeds play such an open style that i can't decide if he's useless at reading the game, or whether it just looks that way because the whole XI is all over the place positionally.

What i will say though, is Leeds did struggle without him. They only picked up 6 points from 24 when he was injured and they didn't play any of the top 4 in those games either. So he's clearly influential. Leeds tend to dominate possession and his ability to keep the ball is probably a large part of why they miss him so badly.

I'd just like to see him do more in open play before i consider him a top player. He clearly has the technical ability to be a top playmaker but most of his threat to the opposition goal comes from direct and indirect set pieces. In open play he rarely creates clear cut chances or tests the goal keeper. If he added that to his game a top 6 team would be in for him I'm sure. He's got plenty of time on his side.

6.) 09 Sep 2021 11:21:03
He’s a player I like to watch, then again I like to watch Leeds. Never world class but he’s a good player.

7.) 09 Sep 2021 11:40:44
Grealish up to his best diving tricks last night 🙄.

8.) 09 Sep 2021 11:42:11
Phillips is a decent to good player. I don't think he is very good yet and definitely nowhere near top class. He has the potential to improve and get a lot better than he is now, for sure.

05 Sep 2021 20:39:13
So glad I tuned into the Argentina Brazil game. Now I have seen everything. So glad none of our lads were released for this.

RedScarface

1.) 06 Sep 2021 00:20:24
As Harry Hill would say there's only one way to settle it Fight, I haven't seen it but no doubt it will be much publicised over the next few days, that South American hot blooded streak strikes again.

2.) 06 Sep 2021 01:29:21
Nothing to do with fighting. The Brazilian health authority just stepped in to enforce a quarantine. health rule. Argentina should forfeit the match and on we go.

3.) 06 Sep 2021 05:56:54
Or perhaps the whole red list country thing is nonsense and the players, like all people, should not be subjugated to quaranteening.

4.) 06 Sep 2021 13:45:02
Don't cry for me Quarantina.

Mane was doubled up on every occasion so that quick burst he uses to get past players was nullified. Few times he did get 1 on 1 he went past his man but chelsea still had 3 defenders in the box.

One thing is in our favour compared to our record if bringing thru youngsters in the PL era, the kids have proper quality professionals to train with and look up to and glean advice from. From an on and off the pitch perspective. On top of that, they are looking up to a team of proven winners I'm every position. Our kids in the academy have no real excuse in terms of extrinsic motivation to make the grade so the ball is quiet literally in their court.
