Am I the only one who’s a bit nervous about us signing Wirtz?
People are really losing it over him and talking like it would be the end of the club if we don’t get him.
I’m thinking he could quite easily be another Kai Havertz or Timo Werner.
Of course I hope he is what everyone seems to think he is but I think we all need to temper our expectations. No one player makes a team.
1.) 31 May 2025 13:22:05
You’re the only one mate lol.
2.) 31 May 2025 13:25:50
He is on an entirely different level from those two. When havertz left Bayer already knew that wirtz was going to turn out to be an even better player. Watch him play mate, he has awareness and intelligence that cannot be taught, not just raw skill, technique or athleticism, the game seems to run at the speed he wants it to, plus he works incredibly hard off the ball.
Of course one player doesn't make a team but when you have a player who can create the unpredictable like he does it gives you a definite edge in a tactical stalemate.
3.) 31 May 2025 13:33:50
Yup indeed you are the only one.
4.) 31 May 2025 13:38:54
I can only assume you've not seen him play much, Robbo?
5.) 31 May 2025 13:40:48
Any transfer of any kind always has some risk to it. We all know this very well.
But you're absultely correct on the one thing. It's only you.
6.) 31 May 2025 14:09:24
Havertz has out scored our 85 million pound striker in the league the last 2 seasons despite being injured for about 4 months of it and being rubbish.
7.) 31 May 2025 14:17:17
Indeed, ArAy1969 (my brother's birth year, btw) . Every transfer is a gamble so you want guarantees then, go find some transfer Utopia to live in where NO transfer is a risk.
As for Wirtz, two time Bundesliga MVP at age 22? OP, I can confidently tell you that neither City, Bayern nor RM do not try to sign scrubs, mate.
And comparing him to Havertz or Werner is just blasphemy, IMO. They are nowhere near the proven ability of "Flo".
Relax. We're good here, mate.
8.) 31 May 2025 14:40:29
Don’t see any problems with Wirtz he is a special player mate
Up the pool.
9.) 31 May 2025 15:03:24
You’re not the only one btw. I’ve got doubts based on the likes of sancho havertz etc, can’t remember watching him play hopefully everyone else is right.
10.) 31 May 2025 15:15:30
I have seen him play Salah and I’ve been largely impressed. That being said, you’d have said the same thing about Havertz, Werner and even Keita when you saw them playing in Germany.
I’m 100% hoping he is the world beater everyone thinks he is but people are talking about him being a guaranteed success. Recent history has told us that this is far from the case.
I’m not saying I expect him to fail or that I’m not excited but I am saying that we should all be realistic about signing a player who has looked very good in Germany. They don’t always transmit that to the Premier League.
The bigger thing for me is the message it sends out. He’s a player that was very sought after by some huge clubs and he chose Liverpool. That’s more exciting to me than the player himself.
11.) 31 May 2025 15:16:17
Not nervous about his ability, more whether we can make the transfer work.
I’m nervous about the likes of Osimhen and Gyokeres. People saying they’re world class when they’re really just average poachers playing in pub leagues.
20 Apr 2025 01:05:02
I was just reading a previous post where Ed1 was discussing Bellingham and it got me thinking.
I can remember the last time I saw him play and have any effect on the game. For England or Madrid.
What’s happened to him? He was truly anonymous against Arsenal in both legs. Has he got too big for his boots and stopped working or was he just overhyped to begin with?
1.) 20 Apr 2025 06:11:44
I think he's still doing quite alright this season and I think has already close to, if not more than, 20 goal contributions this seasons across all competitions. Imo, the balance of the RM team this season is slightly off after the signing of Mbappe, as they are trying to fit in too many of their star players at once. From the little I saw, Bellingham was still putting in effort in his games this season even if results don't go his way.
2.) 20 Apr 2025 07:36:41
Perhaps he is blending in with the rest of the Galacticos and becoming just another very good player.
I read somewhere that since Mbappe has joined, the formation has changed to accommodate him, having a knock on effect on others, inc Bellingham.
3.) 20 Apr 2025 08:40:04
Bellingham had an awesome season last season, to me it’s bc RM trying to bed in Mbappe, Bellingham has moved further back into c mid, he was like false 9/ 10 last season.
4.) 20 Apr 2025 11:01:39
Exactly, @Kew. Bellingham was killing it last season esp. when he was playing in the false 9. Ironically, trying to shoehord Mbappe in to the team in the CF position may have affected his output and perfs. overall.
Mbappe simply does not fit the way Ancelotti wants to play IMO and that has affected the overall team balance, something that was not an issue last season with JB in the false 9. The injuries have not helped the neither in addition to not having replaced Kroos properly.
5.) 20 Apr 2025 11:47:02
Tbf to Bellingham, I think he has been their best player once again this season. Especially when you consider his role change, and the more defensive duties he has at Real. That, on top of what he produces in offensive plays, and the contributions he is still able to make.
Bellingham has consistently had to sprint past Mbappe to trigger the press this season, as Mbappe simply is incapable of it. Honestly, Mbappe is one of the laziest players I have ever seen. If not for his speed, he would not be near a top club, in my opinion, ala Kyle Walker. Bellingham recognized Mbappe's flaw and took it upon himself to sprint past as often as he is able.
I honestly think Bellingham is a class football, not a big fan of his attitude, though, as he is a nasty piece of work on the pitch. But, Real have far more problems than Bellingham. The offensive structure is a joke, and a decision will have to be made on Vini or Mbappe, because both operate best on the left, and are poor elsewhere, unless facing weak Spanish teams.
Real need a proper striker. Unfortunately, for us, so do we, Arsenal, and a number of other top clubs. So the competition for strikers is going to be a massive headache.
6.) 20 Apr 2025 11:48:33
Madrid lost kross and modric is finished. They need a midfielder to knit it all together hence the interest in Wharton. Bellingham isn't a 6 or 8 for me. He's a 10 who can do a job as an 8.
Bellinghams game was suited for the PL. La liga is a poor man's league. Two teams you're competing against and both are good teams not great teams in Barcelona and athletico. Bellinghams a very good player but I do feel you're seeing the best of him like Rooney and Owen, explode on the scene and people expect them to only get better and better. Doesn't happen. Bellinghams personality too is rubbing everyone off that doesn't support Madrid. His media personality isn't going to save him from his antics on the pitch anymore. Bellinghams physique as well is going to hinder him as he gets older. That's not a body that's going to be as athletic when he's 28,29. The legs will go a lot earlier.
7.) 20 Apr 2025 11:53:35
Should have come to Liverpool so no sympathy for him.
8.) 20 Apr 2025 11:58:12
Bellingham plays more withdrawn inside the left half space now, and has more off the ball responsibilities with kroos gone and vini and mbappe both in the team. Ancelotti himself said that they don't need Bellingham ghosting into the box to score anymore because the goals are expected to come from elsewhere, though Bellingham has still been doing that whenever he can.
9.) 20 Apr 2025 12:02:24
He is not playing for Liverpool where he would be ripping up trees no doubt. Oh well you learn by making mistakes he might realise he messed up and join us one day who knows.
Maybe Trent will see this and realise there is nowhere better to play football than Liverpool fc. I have myself begun to think Morgan Rogers is of the Liverpool mould and would be a fantastic signing. Now Rogers, Bellingham and Trent at Liverpool that would be something else.
10.) 20 Apr 2025 12:29:43
Didn’t he win the league and CL last season.
I can’t imagine him thinking joining Real was a mistake.
He might have another couple of troubles seasons there or he might win the lot again but the fact he’s already won the top 2 prizes whilst on a ridiculous wage shows his gamble of going there was worth it.
He’s still extremely young so he can stay there for years or move on if he wishes in time.
02 Mar 2025 22:01:15
Not Liverpool related but was hoping for some thoughts on something I saw today watching the Utd game.
Utd were awful again especially in the first half. Amorim makes no subs at half time but then takes Ugarte and Hojlund off on 52 minutes. The pundits always say he’s sent the same team out to see if they can show improvement but then decided to make the change.
How can you show too much improvement in 7 minutes? He must’ve known he wanted to make those changes so why not do it at half time?
For me it shows how weak the manager is. He doesn’t want that difficult conversation of telling them to their face at half time that he’s hooking them so he sends them out for the second half then hauls them off 7 minutes in.
1.) 03 Mar 2025 00:15:01
I thought United showed rare glimpses of Amorims style today but ultimately were completely outplayed.
Maybe he's a good manager in another setting but then writing is on the wall for Amorim already. Their form is awful, his arrogance not to change tactics and failure to accept responsibility would be a big worry for me.
As a liverpool fan its great to see them so so bad.
2.) 03 Mar 2025 00:53:48
What's the point of United changing tactics? The season was already a write-off when Amorim came in and compromising to indulge the average players they already have is why they never get anywhere. They need to learn the hard way instead of constantly looking for a quick fix because the problems they have run far too deep.
3.) 03 Mar 2025 04:13:08
Given United’s last chance of Europe next season just went west and Sir Jim is getting rid of everything that isn’t nailed down I don’t see a quick fix on the cards.
A terrible shame but we’ll just have to step back and enjoy the show I guess.
4.) 03 Mar 2025 06:30:08
If he changes tactics and they start winning a few, what reason would he have to defend changing back to his preferred system for preseason and next season? The players themselves will be confused and he will have no clout with the press and the board.
If they're going to stick with him (and back him for a huge summer where they'll have the huge task of trying to sell the likes of rashford, mount, casemiro, garnacho etc to try and make some money), then they might as well let him persist and have them play his system, so the players who are left know what their responsibilities are every game. The problem is whether the players are so demoralised by then that the relationship with the manager and his way of playing has been completely ruined. If they don't stick with him, then they have a similar problem where they need to sell all the old players on huge contracts to buy new players to fit the new manager's style of play. The smart thing to have done in a period of transition like this was just to go with ashworth's suggestion and bring a coach that could work with the existing squad and formation and just get them back to stability in the Europa league places for a while, trimming and adding to the squad gradually window by window. That would have been a Graham potter or a Marco Silva or a Thomas Frank or whatever. Instead they've made a fashionable appointment but don't have the conditions or infrastructure in place to make it work.
Worst thing about that club is that idiot Radcliffe firing lunch ladies and cancelling free meals, Christmas parties and team coaches for the regular staff under the pretense of cutting costs while wasting the paltry sum saved on firing the likes of ashworth, what an absolute joke he's turning united into.
5.) 03 Mar 2025 07:20:29
I think the main problem is that his preferred tactic has barely ever been used successfully over time in the premier league. I know someone will always have an example but it will be pretty much a one-off.
TBH i think it shows a lack of flexibility on his part which is poor for a supposedly elite manager and I’m very glad that we didn’t go for him last summer, if he was ever really an option which I doubt given that he’s wedded to that system.
To me he looks to be a poor manager, he’ll get another season at United but he’ll be be gone soon after as I don’t see him getting them back into the top 4.
6.) 03 Mar 2025 07:59:58
WDW3, Utd are still in the Europa.
7.) 03 Mar 2025 08:11:59
The very best managers play to the players strengths. This idea that managers like Ange, Amorim, Kompany, Martin can only play one way is ridiculous. They are simply poor managers.
Football is about winning games and you are paid to make sure the players are ready to do that. Systems don’t matter you just need to win games so if you are not winning games, change it. Simple.
25 Feb 2025 14:50:58
Anyone seen Arteta’s presser today? He’s saying that they’ve been matching us for the last 15 games before their defeat at the weekend.
I think someone needs to explain to him that when you are already behind you need to do better than the team ahead. Maths is obviously not his strong point.
He can match us until the end of the season if he likes, that’ll suit us just fine thanks Michel.
1.) 25 Feb 2025 16:02:10
He is actually a mediocre manager. Won the fa cup with emery's squad and preceeded to spend millions to win absolutely nothing. Their fans are a reflection of him. Delusional.
2.) 25 Feb 2025 16:34:35
I don't agree with that at all RedScarface. He's got them competitive again. Arsenal had become pathetic in the last decade of Wenger. Yes they've spent a lot but so have United and Chelsea so spending doesn't guarantee success.
3.) 25 Feb 2025 16:35:28
He is a left back short of a picnic.
Seriously though, I genuinely believe he has tried to copy Jurgen Klopp's process to glory but got lost somewhere between Pep Guardiola innovating with his CBs at fullback and Newcastle being inspired by Atletico Madrid style rubbishhousery.
A combination of poor recruitment and their desperation to win by cheating has set them back to the very beginning again.
As a club and a fanbase, they have been highly strung since the first minute of the season. It's not sustainable.
The concern Arsenal fans should have is whether Saliba and Saka are thinking about futures elsewhere if they end up trophyless again.
4.) 25 Feb 2025 16:39:50
The man can say whatever he wants, it doesn't mean jack if we continue to do our job. Us doing that will render Arsenal and Arteta irrelevant.
Also, who is going to tell him that this stat he is using to big up himself and his team actually doesn't mean what he thinks it means?
Notice he lies by omission by NOT mentioning the fact that even tho we both had the same record over 15 games, they were 7/ 8 points behind us stuck in 2nd place during that span, which would have exposed his rank incompetence. Funny that.
Like RedScarface said, Delusion at it's finest, just like many in his club's fan base.
5.) 25 Feb 2025 16:53:47
The progressive narrative from Arsenal this season:
"It's still early days"
"yeah, but they haven't played anybody yet"
"All that matters is that we're above City - I'm not worried about Liverpool"
"Liverpool will collapse after Christmas"
"Yeah but they still have loads of tough away games"
to now:
"Look how good we are. We have nearly matched Liverpool over the last 16 games. "
Take it as what it is. A massive compliment. They are finally acknowledging the fact that we deserve to be in the position we are in.
6.) 25 Feb 2025 17:45:04
I don’t know much about Arteta. All I know is his team plays horrible boring football like a modern day Stoke.
Obsessed with corners and time wasting.
I hope we smash them to bits at Anfield.
7.) 25 Feb 2025 17:52:29
Nobody is properly acknowledging us. All those comments and now apparently because city have fell off then it's a Leicester season where the standard is weak. Anything to try and tarnish what looks like 20.
8.) 25 Feb 2025 18:06:38
Correct, Shipley.
I don't know why folk have a problem with what he said. He said they'd built some momentum and used us as a comparison. Isn't that a good thing?
He was more complimentary than a lot on here have been about our form over those fifteen games!
9.) 26 Feb 2025 06:54:00
Keep trusting that process gooners ?.
10.) 26 Feb 2025 09:11:48
Yeah, Shipley. Cos to Arsenal and their deluded manager, the PL is a 16-game season.
I bet you, they will be giving us a Guard of Honour and their fans will still be saying the same things.
22 Feb 2025 17:17:33
The lack of understanding of the premier league is astounding on this site at times.
So many were 100% sure that Arsenal would win today and were berating us for 2 draws in what were very difficult away games.
Well hopefully now you can see that nothing is ever guaranteed in the premier league.
This Arsenal team stand no chance of winning every game. No chance.
All of a sudden 2 points gained from Everton and Villa away looks a hell of a lot better than 3 points gained from Leicester away and West Ham at home.
8pts clear with 2 very difficult away games out of the way. Get in.
1.) 22 Feb 2025 17:32:08
Yes we are better than Arsenal, thankfully city have dropped off. We’ve been better and lost the league.
2.) 22 Feb 2025 17:37:59
Robboslostlegs, no matter how much they are told that nothing is over until it is over with all types of evidence to prove it), they keep doing the same things. Like you, I have been saying that Arsenal has near NO margin for error. That is thanks to the pressure Slot and his boys have put on them.
Now did I think WH would win? No. I did know that there is a diff. btw LC and WH and that the Mikel Merino at CF experiment would be supremely tested. And it was. It could have been even worse for them had Kudus not being playing hero ball most of the time.
As for us, we go into the City game with a free mind and can go toe to toe with City and provided we get a pooint, we'll be straight. Should we win? Watch out!
3.) 22 Feb 2025 17:43:41
Agreed. That was huge today. Huge.
Not only do we get more breathing space back but I think it gives the lads a bit of a boost tomorrow to play with more freedom.
Goes to show how tricky the league is despite Arteta throwing 200 million at his squad every summer (Although I really think they are very close to being an elite side) .
A draw or win is massive tomorrow. let's get at them.
4.) 22 Feb 2025 17:48:04
Said it earlier. Both teams are currently limping to the finish line.
We need to capitalise tomorrow with a win at City which is easier said than done.
We have a better team and far less injuries than Arsenal and with the points already on the board realistically there should be no excuse on why we don’t win this league.
5.) 22 Feb 2025 17:50:49
I understand your point I think I said a couple of days ago West Ham will get a result. But don't be an arsehole.
6.) 22 Feb 2025 17:57:13
Oli so you’re telling me you don’t watch Liverpool games live but you somehow managed to watch the Arsenal v West Ham one live.
Jesus Christ I’m starting to believe you’re more of a jackanory as every day goes by.
7.) 22 Feb 2025 18:00:11
Sorry but did you say our 2 points from 2 games were better than their 3 points from 2 games?
8.) 22 Feb 2025 18:00:23
Always rely on yourself, and not rely on others!, to have your destiny in your own hands is the ideal ending in a title race finish.
It's in LFC's Hands to Win or lose the Premier now.
Let's win it in style starting tomorrow, and also throw down a marker to Guardiola that LFC are going to get a lot, lot stronger the next few seasons, let's see if you can all keep up with ARNE-field!
9.) 22 Feb 2025 18:10:39
Absolutely red-Willis. Or are you trying to tell me that a win and a defeat to Leicester away and West Ham at home is better than drawing away to Everton and Villa?
Like I said, the lack of understanding of the premier league is astounding.
10.) 22 Feb 2025 18:11:36
Just wondering if Man City can still catch both teams, if they win tomorrow?
{Ed025's Note - no..
11.) 22 Feb 2025 18:15:42
3 points is always better than 2. The lack of understanding of how points work is astounding. ??.
12.) 22 Feb 2025 18:21:37
Whichever way you are selling it 3 points in 2 football matches will always be better than 2 points.
I’m not sure some actually know how league tables work.
13.) 22 Feb 2025 18:22:37
See the post immediately below this one St Etienne. Mathematically, anything's possible, there's still enough points at play that Everton could pass us! However, we'd have to drop 15 out of our final 36 points and City would have to win every game to catch us.

12 Jun 2025 17:04:14
Leek ?. You just have to laugh it’s so pathetic.
10 Jun 2025 17:36:54
I said that on a previous post MK. Cherki gives me Payet vibes.
Talented player no doubt but limited and seems like his attitude and laziness will cause issues.
10 Jun 2025 13:11:28
I’d agree with that WYred but we are dealing with human beings here and the longer it goes on there is always a chance he might change his mind.
Just because he wanted Liverpool initially doesn’t mean that can’t change after a period of reflection and a look at a weather map.
I’m quite calm about it as we’ve just won the league so even if he doesn’t sign we are still in a good place.
Adam, think about it this way. Wirtz was City’s first choice but he chose us so they had to move on to Cherki. If that had happened the other way around and we’d had to settle for Cherki we’d all be saying how City will be immense and they just go out and sign the best players in the world whilst we shop from the next tier down.
Roles have reversed. They wanted Kerkez but had to settle for Ait Nouri because Kerkez chose us too. They are having to shop from the second tier and hope these players come good.
I’m more excited about the fact that players are choosing us ahead of teams like City, Madrid and Bayern rather than the actual signings themselves.
09 Jun 2025 22:41:06
I’m sure they have groups for that Ed.
‘My name is Ed25 and I’m an Evertonaholic. It’s been 30 years since I last saw a trophy. ’.
{Ed025's Note - i like that Robbo..
07 Jun 2025 21:47:40
I wouldn’t be against keeping Nunez for another year if we can’t get the right man through the door.
I still hold out some small hope that he might get past his psychological struggles. He has everything we need in a striker but his brain just turns to mush every time he gets a chance to score. He’s a bit too desperate which leads to him being offside a lot and snatching at chances.
People like to criticise him and I get it. He’s made himself an easy target for lazy critics but if he stays he’ll have my full support for another year.
Robboslostlegs's banter replies
11 Jun 2025 20:04:28
I for one am getting tired of the owners running this club into the ground!
First they don’t spend enough so we don’t win the title, then they spend too much just to win the title!
I’m fed up, FSG out!
11 Jun 2025 20:01:50
Where there’s that level of money, there’s corruption. I’m convinced that the PGMOL is not there just to officiate games but to engineer an outcome.
There are too many powerful people that stand to make too much money (or lose too much money) for them not to have some kind of control on the outcome.
11 Jun 2025 17:24:04
Thankfully Macca is not a Liverpool scout and has nothing to do with transfers. Romero is absolutely awful.
Didn’t our own Luis Diaz dance past him like he wasn’t there last night to score? Romero needed to buy a ticket to get back in the stadium!
11 Jun 2025 09:06:06
How do you know Osimhen is better than Nunez Hughes?
When we signed Nunez he was one of the hottest properties in Europe. It hasn’t worked out but nobody saw that coming he looked an absolute monster at Benfica and even gave Virgil a torrid time in the CL.
I think we might find that any striker we sign will struggle because Salah is our striker and main source of goals.
11 Jun 2025 08:54:51
He rejected City Rigsby and chose us. We had to pay over the odds because Southampton reported us for tapping him up.
He was so determined to play for us that after the deal collapsed because of the tapping up allegation he waited from the summer until January to get the move. He was training with the kids for a lot of that time too.
I think the original fee was around £45m but we had to pay £75m with our tail between our legs.
