Alright eds, any interest from us in Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella?

{Ed001's Note - he has come out publicly and said he would like to join us, hence the reported interest. He has been monitored but we have shown no signs of actually doing any more, as of yet, than keeping an eye on his progress.}

1.) 16 Oct 2018 09:19:26
Is he any good Ed?

{Ed001's Note - very highly rated mate, not seen anything of him yet to judge him sorry.}

2.) 16 Oct 2018 12:02:05
Cheers ed.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

Ed001 in your opinion who was the better player Maradona or Pele, and how does Dalglish compare to them two? Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - Pele was before my time, so I have not seen as much of him, which makes my choice Maradona. Dalglish is a fair way off, brilliant as he was, those two are a whole different level, above anything Dalglish, or Messi and CR7 for that matter, could do.}

1.) 28 Mar 2020 20:03:08
I did not watch Pele play in real time and the little I saw of him, he was way ahead of his time in the things he was doing. Bobby Charlton once said that Pele, was the most naturally gifted footballer he had ever seen BUT having read one of his many books, Pele worked HARD on his game and was always finding ways to get better cos his dad Dondinho (who lost his pro career due to injury) rode him hard.

As for Maradona, I did watch him play in real time and they call him the god of football for a reason. He was simply amazing. Hi ability was a gift from the gods IMO, plain and simple. That 1986 WC was the stuff of legends at the time (I was 10). The reason why people think Diego was better than Pele was that Pele played in a star-studded Santos and Brazilian team with legends alongside him.

On the other hand, Maradona had average at best, teams (for club and country) around him and STILL led his country to two WC finals, winning one. To conclude, the ONLY reason we know who or where Napoli is on a global map is becos of Diego (won the league and UEFA Cup with them) . He made Napoli relevant till this very day. IMO, CR7 and Messi are not fit to carry the boots of these gods of the game. not even close.

2.) 28 Mar 2020 20:29:55
I watched Pele live only at the 1970 World Cup, and then subsequently been reading up on him and watching tapes and videos of him for years and years. Saw Maradona play for most of his career.

For me it's Pele, the best player ever, any day of the week.

3.) 29 Mar 2020 12:37:04
I watched Maradona live at the 86 world cup and I also watched the documentary the other day. What a player, if you are in any doubt then watch some highlights. He was magical with the ball. There is no one even close. A joy to watch, if he was around playing now then he would be able to show his skills even more, as he was hacked to death! Class.

4.) 29 Mar 2020 12:30:50
ArAy1969, I can fully agree with your choice of Pele cos there is a more than strong argument for that. IMO, there is no argument to be made for Ronaldo or Messi to be the best of all time. Not after watching both Pele, Maradonna or even Ronaldo 9 (the best CF to ever play the game, IMO) .

5.) 29 Mar 2020 18:35:27
While Ronaldo R9 is my favorite Brazilian CF, I would rather say that Johann Cruyff would be No.3 on my all time list, Red Meister. The first and original "Firmino type" player in the sense that he was all over the field wherever he was needed and yet scored enough goals as the CF. The first "complete " player I ever saw play the game of football.

My main issue with Maradona was that despite all the superlative performances and achievements on the field performances, he would cheat, play dirty and his lifestyle was hardly that of a model citizen. Theoretically, the off field part really shouldn't play a part in judging a player, but it ends up doing it even at a subconscious level.

Ed001 I thought Hamman was a great holding midfielder, maybe lacked abit of pace but he was great defensively and kept things nice and simple and ticking over. Do u reckon that he would make it into our current side ahead of Fabinho? I like fab aswel been impressed with him since he joined.

{Ed001's Note - I loved Didi but he was not at Fabinho's level. He couldn't keep up with the speed of this current Liverpool side. Hamann didn't have the energy levels, possibly because of his smoking or maybe just the way they trained, but he would be out on his feet after 30 minutes!}

1.) 22 Mar 2020 12:55:05
Hamann very good tackler reader of game bit light years behind fab in terms of energy drive passing and overall ability
Couldn’t play in this current side as he fitness levels were not good enough imo
But loved him at the time he was with us have to admit.

{Ed047's Note - he was a heavy smoker too if I remember, that wouldn’t have helped his fitness

2.) 22 Mar 2020 13:34:55
Was going to say that it would be nice to have Hamman now to bring off the bench and settle a game down last 20mins but I suppose we have have Milner for that?

{Ed001's Note - yep exactly. Someone like Millie is far more useful as he can come on just about any position to replace a player who is tiring. With Didi he can only play one way. Though he did have a hammer of a shot too when a bit further forward.}

3.) 22 Mar 2020 13:52:28
A controversial one here ed mate but do u think that El Hadji Diouf ever had what it takes to become a great footballer? Was it his attitude that held him back? When he 1st broke onto the sence in the 2002 world cup he looked a real prospect with great talent but when he joined us he seemed to have this arrogance to him and his behaviour was terrible.

{Ed001's Note - yes, he was extremely talented but a complete tit. If he had not been such an arrogant waste of oxygen, he could have been a top class player.}

4.) 22 Mar 2020 14:36:35
How much was hamann smoking?
Was he just a casual every now and then or a pack a day kind of guy?

{Ed001's Note - he would sneak off for a ciggy at half time in the toilets apparently, so that sounds like more than a casual every now and then smoker.}

5.) 22 Mar 2020 16:35:29
Diouf's lack of end product was nearly amusing. It's like he didn't know what to do once he'd beaten his man, so he usually just cut back inside to beat him again and repeat until he finally skewed a cross or shot to nowhere, lost the ball, or had to pass it back to Henchoz.

6.) 22 Mar 2020 17:44:26
I thought Hamann was a great footballer and if he did not come on against AC we would not have won the game. He was a great foil for Gerrard as his reading of the game and game management was great.

7.) 22 Mar 2020 17:49:16
Diouf has always been a hot head since his academy days at Sochaux and then at Rennes. He was extremely gifted and his perf. for Lens and for Snegal (even before the WC) proved that cos they don't qualify from that group including Egypt and Morocco in the African qualifiers without him. That is a fact cos I followed those WC qualifiers.

He was just as Ed01, a complete jerk on and off the pitch that he was a liability and you can get away with that at Sochaux or Rennes, NOT at an institution like LFC where the pressure is on and his rubbish would not be tolerated. He never grew up and even now, he is still running his mouth and talking trash about LFC or it former players he played with esp. SG. He must be so jealous of him cos SG never even responds to his bitter ramblings.

8.) 22 Mar 2020 22:47:25
Just to echo, yes I loved hanman too. Class act and class player. I imagine klopp would have him much fitter although the smoking is obviously an issue. Great player and a great shot on him.

Lads if we have no sport for afew months we need to keep this site going. I suggest getting on the movies page or other chat pages, could meet other fans u wouldn't meet otherwise. YNWA.

1.) 15 Mar 2020 00:46:28
The conspiracy page is out of this world. Edd 33 and a few posters make for an interesting read.
Edd 33 in the past has given some great views and surgestions.

2.) 15 Mar 2020 08:35:24
With no football to report on, the sports media will be on overdrive to feed us transfer gossip, more transfer gossip than ever, so I predict this page to still be active.

That and which footballers and managers have coronavirus.

3.) 15 Mar 2020 09:12:06
Can't the players have a fifa competition or something? Stream it online so we can all watch?

Better than hollyoaks.

4.) 15 Mar 2020 09:49:36
Saw online yesterday someone suggest a 20 man WWE style battle royal. Each club nominates 1 and the season is decided that way lol. Who we nominating from LFC. Big Virgil or Milner for me. Although I think Klopp could do a job in there.

01 Mar 2020 21:04:44
Now that the invincibles tag is away I hope we go all out for the treble. Big game Tuesday, Saturday is forgotten about. YNWA.

1.) 02 Mar 2020 09:55:51
Its irrelevant too go the whole season unbeaten it's just a mark of how well we have done this season . It would be nice now too finish the mission strongly an try an freshen the squad up with players like curtis Jones, neco William's, possibly Harvey elliot and minamino as them players will be important for next season .

19 Feb 2020 00:29:09
Fair play to athletico Madrid they deserved the win, we were terrible. People saying their tactics were brilliant, I didn't see anything different from them tatic wise to say they r any different to the likes if Burnley ( no disrespect to Burnley) . Sean dyche plays that way and he's negative simone plays that way and he's a mastermind. Lol.

1.) 19 Feb 2020 05:46:46
I wouldn’t say we were terrible. 75% possession in a champions league game. Atletico defended superbly and gave us nothing in the final third. I hate watching Atletico though, they always remind me of a Tony Pulis team with better players.

2.) 19 Feb 2020 07:20:33
Agree thunderbird, I think we actually played very well over 80% of the pitch but we just lacked the killer pass/ finish and they defended well. What I really hate though is the way they tried to get Mane sent off and hence why he was subbed, that changed our game in the end. They also went rolling around the pitch whenever tackled. tactical masterclass to try level the playing field but it’s not pretty or worthy of respect no matter how good they are.

3.) 19 Feb 2020 07:40:08
Possession means zip, unless you're Brendan Rodgers. We didn't have a shot on target! When was the last time that happened? Ref didn't help but he isn't fully to blame.

4.) 19 Feb 2020 08:37:18
You can say 99% possession if you want. but not one shot on target is embarrassing how ever you want to look at it.
You can only pass backwards and side ways so meany times. It plays into there hands. I know they are very compact at the back but how meany times did we have an offside! I couldn’t see one of our front 3 play off the shoulder of the defensive. Straight balls up field from defence or midfield are to easy to defend. Put some diag balls in and mix it up. Bit More direct.
Just my view of course.

{Ed001's Note - we didn't have an offside because they were so deep, nothing to do with not playing diagonal balls. We played plenty of them.}

5.) 19 Feb 2020 10:04:29
ed001 I hate watching Atletico they remind me so much of how Diego Simeone played fouled a lot then rolls on the floor all the time when hardly touched. And the ref fell for it every time I don't know how refs keep falling for it with his side, they much watch the games on the tv and think look at them so must be ready for them when they ref them.

{Ed001's Note - I love how they commit a foul and then go down like they are shot and the ref gives them the free kick. Oh no wait, I don't love it, I hate that kind of cheating. But it is the mentality he brings.}

6.) 19 Feb 2020 10:21:49
Burnley on steroids mate.

When the draw was made my immediate thought was that this will be the ultimate test of our final progression from that team that blitzes teams on the counter to truly being able to beat all types of teams. It is fair to say that a weakness of our team, at least until the last 12 months, was that we'd struggle to break teams down. And Athletico present probably the most supreme version of parking the bus combined with all the professional acts of gamesmanship.

It is a great challenge for us and I'm glad we got them to be honest. Really keen to see how we rise to this challenge.

7.) 19 Feb 2020 10:28:51
I don't think we played poorly at all. Had enough possession, controlled the ball, dictated the pace of the game. We just didn't create enough opportunities for the front 3 to be clinical and to do what they normally do best. It felt like we were playing the Spanish version of Crystal Palace. The kind of game we usually draw in the EPL. Except we let in a goal at the 4th minute and we were always playing catch up. The referee did not help by being conned so often. And it's not so easy to play in a packed stadium with howling, screaming supporters reacting to your every move (our players and ref, too) .

It was comical to see Simeone (much respect to him as a manager) jumping up and down. Next time someone should give him a skirt and pompoms so his cheerleading is more effective.

Like Klopp said, it's only half-time for the tie. It's not a big deal yet. PSG lost to Dortmund, at Dortmund, and it's not a disaster for them, either. That's how Champions League is.

I really hope Keita gets into some kind of good form soon. I think his ability to drive the ball up the middle (which is very difficult against Atletico) and glide past players, could be effective at Anfield, and could even be the key. Ox can do that too, but he's still trying to find his optimal form. And I hope extra time is spent on set pieces, in training, because once again corners, crosses and free kicks are not going past the first man. We had the tallest man on the pitch (by far) in VVD and we couldn't get the ball to his head on set pieces.

8.) 19 Feb 2020 11:07:35
When Klopp does it it's passion. Another manager does it and he should be given a skirt and pompoms and called a cheerleader.

9.) 19 Feb 2020 11:29:16
Yes, sure. Instruct your players to play anti-football, with play acting and negative tactics and then egg on the crowd to howl and scream should be rewarded with skirts and pompoms. And then to say "Liverpool is the best team in the World but we beat them tonight" (which means "hey, look at me, I'm a genius of a manager") entitles him to matching hair ribbons with the skirt and pompoms.

10.) 19 Feb 2020 13:51:45
That's classy Yawn, dedicating your name to Ole's style of football.

Even if we r playing in modern times? So much of defending back when Lloyd and Yates were playing was about tackling and battling the striker all elbows and kicks. What about playing out from the back, could lloyd and Yates do that as well as Vvd does?

{Ed001's Note - they were both able to play football, most players then had more skill than modern players. Their technique had to be perfect to deal with the pitch.}
