I keep forgetting that we still have Karius on our books.
Eds, is there anybody out there who would take him off our hands?

{Ed002's Note - The Club are trying.}

1.) 10 Aug 2021 17:51:54
Free transfer is best.

2.) 10 Aug 2021 19:24:10
He needs to just go for his own sake as much as the clubs now . He will be gone by the end of this window.

3.) 10 Aug 2021 20:49:00
Except for the final he wasn’t the worst keeper in the world. No one wants to go out like that I hope he comes back stronger and is successful elsewhere.

{Ed025's Note - well the dog and gun are looking for a keeper..

4.) 10 Aug 2021 20:59:48
Is there any reason we wouldn't keep him as keeper 3 eds? Is there bad blood there, or is he pushing for a move for minutes or is he just that bad? Just curious as he seemed a ready made solution to Adrian instead of resigning him.

{Ed002's Note - So sell Caoimhin Kelleher?}

5.) 10 Aug 2021 21:22:23
Sorry, should have been clearer, more meant was it ever considered it could go Alisson > Kelleher > Karius as the third keeper with some experience.

Seems like that's is his level without moving to a side not challenging the top of the tables.

6.) 10 Aug 2021 21:31:10
Kelleher should be number two and Adrian number three. Kelleher is a very good keeper. Karius needs to move for his own career.

{Ed025's Note - as a juggler in a circus?.. :)

7.) 10 Aug 2021 23:03:54
Maybe they can get some size 22 shoes and a red nose, his juggling act ain't so hot.
It's best for all if he goes, it doesn't look like he has any long term prospects here.

8.) 11 Aug 2021 03:09:08
I’ve heard Blackpool blind and deaf are interested in Karius, not sure he’s at their level though.

9.) 10 Aug 2021 23:50:42
Ed025 jugglers can actually catch.

{Ed025's Note - good point mate..

10.) 11 Aug 2021 06:36:49
The worst thing would be to be unable to sell or loan him out. And then not register him as a member of the squad, because of our HG complications, and the fact that Alisson, Kelleher, Adrian and Pitakuga are ahead of him. Paying a salary without him being able to play football for us is the ultimate fail.

11.) 11 Aug 2021 10:35:59
In fairness to him he’s never recovered from that Champions League final. We need to set a value as low as possible to attract interest. The player himself also needs to be realistic in his expectations as he’s not going to go and play at a top club.,

{Ed025's Note - realistic value...5p, realistic expectations...vanarama league?..

12.) 11 Aug 2021 11:58:03
Forget football clubs. we could make a fortune selling him on to a modelling agency.

23 Jul 2021 09:17:00
It turns out that Franck Kessie had a good game at the Olympics yesterday so obviously now we are being linked with making a 'huge' bid.

1.) 23 Jul 2021 11:16:36
Bennacer is better.

2.) 23 Jul 2021 10:56:20
It’s also contract renewal time, I suspect his agent is putting stories out there to coerce a better deal out of Milan.

3.) 23 Jul 2021 12:13:05
Knowing nothing about him I decided to Google Bennacer. I was amused by the fact that he made 1 Arsenal appearance as a 19th-minute substitute to replace an injured Walcott who had previously been brought on to replace an injured AOC! (Arsenal went on to lose 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday)

4.) 23 Jul 2021 15:00:41
At Arsenal he was a winger, but since he moved from there he has been playing as a defensive mid.

5.) 23 Jul 2021 15:27:23
He's been very good for AC Milan and absolutely ran the midfield when they played against Man United (although let's be honest that isn't very difficult) .

He'd be a good signing but not sure he fits the bill as a Gini replacement, more of a Fabinho replacement.

22 Jul 2021 10:31:20
Adam Hlozek the latest player to be linked to us. Apparently we watched him play for Sparta Prague in the CL qualifiers on Tuesday.

{Ed002's Note - He was watched last season. Adam Hlozek (S) has been scouted by RBL, Milan, Liverpool, Dortmund, Arsenal and others but has a desire to move to West Ham where Soucek, who he shares an agent with, plays. Has made clear that he will want assurances of game time.}

1.) 22 Jul 2021 11:05:00
Cheers Ed. When you say 'assurances of game time', are we talking a starting place, or are we just talking minutes on the pitch? I can't see him getting into the side ahead of Bobby but I can't see why he couldn't get reasonable game time off the bench and in cup competitions.

{Ed002's Note - It is difficult to buy players who are already starters and expect them to accept a couple of league cup games and time on the bench.}

2.) 22 Jul 2021 11:42:26
I think there maybe some surprises if the mumblings of the club being aware of quite a few players coming into their 30s. As fans we don't want to see the likes salah, firmino, mane, thiago, hendo, VVD etc coming into that age bracket the club will have to start thinking ahead. There is some younger players come through like elliot at least that will hopefully get a chance.

3.) 22 Jul 2021 11:51:21
what i don't get is loads of players at city do it, jota came last season and played loads when fit. mahrez has been a bench player bar half of last season, laporte is now bench, jesus has always been bench. ferran torres, bernardo silva and cancelo all bench players.

4.) 22 Jul 2021 11:51:23
Looks like a real talent this kid, started 33 of SP games last season at just 17. There's a good write-up on him on the website/ magazine - Scouted Football.

5.) 22 Jul 2021 12:19:02
Nath players are sometimes more accepting of bit part roles if they are winning trophies.

20 Jul 2021 11:58:31
Looks like outgoings are starting to gain momentum. Phillips to Brighton next for £15.

1.) 20 Jul 2021 12:07:55
You may be a few quid out with that fee ;-)

2.) 20 Jul 2021 12:24:09
That's only €17.33 for Nat! Well done Brighton a brilliant piece of business.

3.) 20 Jul 2021 14:46:07
In todays football market that's peanuts. Heck. In any market that's peanuts.

Could look real sweet in my five a side team. Good replacement for Gary. Anyone know if Nat's any good at house chores? I'm seriously thinking of blowing Brighton out of the water with a 35 pound bid.

4.) 20 Jul 2021 15:28:38
Hope Edwards holds out for £20 at least! Plus a snickers

03 Oct 2013 21:42:03
Hi Eds.

I've seen Spurs being linked with a January move for Tom Ince for £4m. Are we still interested or have we given up on him? {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of interest at this time.}

Word on the grapevine (i. e. internet) is that we have put a bid in for Bissouma. Any truth Eds? Or more importantly. any chance of a successful bid?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any bid from any of the interested clubs at this time.}

1.) 27 Aug 2021 10:02:21
Have LFC spoken to Brighton recently Ed as reported in the press?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any discussions about the transfer of Bissouma happening at this time between Brighton and any of the interested clubs.}

2.) 27 Aug 2021 10:43:32
Yeah but have we been in . . . Kidding ed lol

Also, c'mon giys don't be dishesrtened. Ed says he is not aware, doesn't neccesserily mean we haven't been in contact. Even ed2 can't know eveerything ever second of the day! So go on lads and lasses, dream away!

3.) 27 Aug 2021 10:59:21
This would be a dream signing. Let’s hope it happens.

16 Aug 2021 09:25:57
Lots of talk that an agreement has been made with Hendo over his new contract (3 years + optional 4th) . Good news if true!

1.) 16 Aug 2021 11:01:02
Twitter will be upset, great news though.

2.) 16 Aug 2021 11:03:50
It is true. Salah's new deal is next.

3.) 16 Aug 2021 11:35:56
**** Twitter. I’m happy that Henderson will be here for a few more years. Bonafide legend.

4.) 16 Aug 2021 11:53:40
Well he was already going to be here for two more years under the previous contract. They simply added one more year to it, with an optional year after that. Undoubtedly, along with a raise in wages, to ensure he feels loved enough.

5.) 16 Aug 2021 13:12:07
We are kind of offering everyone a new deal which means we are not going to be spending much and this team is going to be together 2 more years atleast.

29 Jul 2021 12:25:42
We have obviously done fairly well in offloading squad players so far this summer. We have raised a few quid which is always nice but presumably we still need to shift some non home-grown players before we can realistically make any moves for new players.

I'm amazed that we resigned Adrian - not because I think he isn't a solid player but more because having a non home-grown place taken up by a 3rd choice keeper seems like a bit of a waste.

Given the number of minutes each player is likely to get next season I would be looking to move on Tsimikas, Shaqiri, Minamino and Origi (I would also consider offers for Keita but I am a massive optimist and still hold out hope of him living up to his potential if he can stay injury free and motivated for long enough) . It looks likely that Shaqiri will move but are there other non home-grown player that we are looking to move on to free up a squad place?

1.) 29 Jul 2021 12:55:44
Agreed, but only for Tsimikas. The lad seems a good cover for the lb position and I would keep him for at least the next season as we have to prioritise the midfield and versatility striker.

2.) 29 Jul 2021 13:22:16
I'm not as stressed about the Non-HG, remember the 'only' penalty is having a smaller squad. However, a number of players we have that would be considered part of the first team squad are under-21, and we can have as many of them as we like. Including players like Jones, Elliot, Williams (Rhys and Neco) etc.

Interestingly, a player counts as HG as long as they have spent 3 years before they turn 21 in that country. So a lot of the players in our U18s and U23s who are highly regarded - Musialowski, Frauendorf etc - will be regarded as HG if they meet the criteria by the time they are 21, regardless of which country they represent. For example, Cesc Fabregas qualified as HG due to spending 3 years before 21 at Arsenal, even when he was playing for Chelsea aged 31!

So, going back to your confusion over Adrian, well Adrian is good enough to be a No 2 for most teams, and IIRC we weren't too upset with him when he was our No 2 (and deputising for Alisson when injured) at the start of our Championship winning season. To get a GK of that calibre as a No 3, especially when our No 2 is relatively inexperienced and our No 1 has had a few injury niggles, is no bad thing. Especially if Klopp considers the cover we have via the U21s adequate for EPL and CL squads.

Having said that, I agree that at least Shaqiri and Origi need to be sold, and probably will be according to Ed002. Tsimikas and Minamino, I believe, will get another chance.

If we do end up going for Saul in midfield (which I still hope is a deal that can be done) then I would expect any forward addition to be HG - Bowen looks interesting - or U21. Top qualify as U21 for the 21/ 22 season the player needs to be born on/ after 1 Jan 2000, so Doku would qualify, but Isak and Malen wouldn't have done.

01 Jul 2021 14:15:36
"A trusted reporter" has claimed that Watkins, Barnes, Neto, and Sarr are the 4 forwards shortlisted for us to sign one of this summer (in addition to 1 midfielder - Saul Niguez? ) .

What do you think the chances are Eds?

{Ed002's Note - John Barnes is a little on the old side.}

1.) 01 Jul 2021 15:38:34
I'd still have him over Sancho though!

2.) 01 Jul 2021 15:39:52
I still think John Barnes could dance around defences at a League 1/ Championship level Ed002 ;-)

3.) 01 Jul 2021 16:33:07
Burnley's Ashley Barnes you mean, OP?

4.) 01 Jul 2021 18:57:10
Saul Niguez? 400k a week? Not a chance in hell he'll be a Liverpool player.

5.) 01 Jul 2021 19:58:24
Shipley Kopite… sour grapes I assume.

Our problem is not with the lack of home-grown players, it is having too many non-home-grown bit-part players. We currently have the maximum number of non-home-grown players that can be registered in our first-team squad. As a result, IF (big if) we were to buy anybody (e. g. Saul or Bissouma) who happens to not be a home-grown player we would be in the position of having to remove another non-home-grown player from the registered squad (e. g. Shaq, Origi or Minimino) and we would be paying players wages who we can not even register for competitions.

{Ed0666's Note - stop fretting about this HG quota malarkey people. I’m my opinion Shaq, taki and divvy will be gone either loaned or sold by the end of this transfer window. Problem solved.

I personally think that we have done some quality business on deadline day. We have brought in 2 strong, pacy defenders who are good with their feet and strong in the air at both ends of the pitch.
Kabak has the potential to be world class (let us all remember that he is only 20) and Davies looks solid (I have seen very little of him so I do not want to judge him based on his fee or his originating club/ league - I was underwhelmed when we signed Robbo and look at him now! ) .
Give them a month or so and I would not be surprised to see them partnering each other in central defence and allowing Fab and Hendo to move back into their true positions massively strengthening our midfield.
More importantly we did this for what is basically pocket change in todays transfer market!
I certainly don't agree with Merson that Liverpool are just 'bringing in some bodies' and that Kabak's agent should get a knighthood. You'd think that somebody who was lucky enough to be given a second chance following alcohol and cocaine addiction would not judge others quite so quickly!

Players that will definitely play:

Alison, TAA, Tsimikas, Mane and Salah

CBs could genuinely be any 2 from VVD, Matip, Konate and Gomez but I think it will be VVD and Matip (but I would be genuinely happy with any combination to start the season) .

Mid is wide open. I hope Fab is deemed 'up to speed' enough to play and I think Milner and Keita will start alongside (I know Keita has his haters on here but he deserves it on his pre-season form) . It will be too soon for Hendo and Thiago and I expect Ox and Elliot to be used from the bench (both to cover mid and forward line) .

Before last night I would have had Jota at 100% starting but Firmino looks raring to go so it's a tossup for me between the two. I suspect Jota will get the nod though as he has had a bit more of a preseason than Firminho.
