Ed001 I’d like your take on something when you’ve got a chance. Heard the rumour Trent is set to play midfield for England vs Andorra. I know it was his natural position when he was younger and many have wanted to see this eventually, myself included. I also know he finds himself in more central positions recently, so wanted to know what your opinion on it was? I personally like the idea of it, but a lot of people I know are against it but I feel that’s slightly short sighted as they just think he’s good at rb so why change it. De bruyne was good as a winger, but better in central areas. And Bobby’s conversion upfront also had similar success. Thanks mate appreciate it.

{Ed001's Note - if there was a better right-back, I would see a lot of sense in it. But he is head and shoulders above any other right-back in the game right now, so why move him?}

I agree with that, thanks Ed!

I think that’s why it makes sense for England to try it! Reece James isn’t better than Trent, but you could argue that Reece and Trent on the pitch is better than Trent + one of Englands midfielders.

Problem is if Trent does play in there against Andora he’s bound to have a stormer as their players are part timers and nowhere near England’s level. My Nan could probably have a decent game in there for England. Klopp has forgotten more about football than Southgate knows but he will get plaudits here for being the man a right back at centre mid. It would be like Klopp trying Allison in midfield against Gosport and Fareham with 10 very good professionals around him and then taking credit for being clever.

Personally I’d have no issues with Klopp playing Trent in midfield as he sees him every day in training and would do it in a far tougher game. For me Southgate doesn’t even rate him and that’s proven. To play him in midfield today would just be all about Southgate rather than Trent.

I think it shows how poor a manager Southgate is to start Walker/ Trippier/ James over Trent is more the point
Up the pool.

I think if Trent was playing centre mid against Chelsea he smashes one in. Our biggest weakness right now is we have nobody who can score from long range so when teams play the low block we become ineffective.

This is true Trent could even play as a centre forward no problem but then who would we play as Right back? I agree with Ed01 why move his position when whoever comes in for him will be a massive downgrade.

I really think once our midfield is settled and the same 3 are playing week in week out we will improve greatly I would like to see Fab Hendo Thiago with the likes of Naby and Elliot coming of the bench, obviously keeping those 3 fit is another problem!

Only one more week to go weird we are the only game on Sunday so have to wait that little bit longer.

Saw this come up the other day on here and will say the same thing - if we play TAA in midfield who exactly do we play at right back or more importantly where do we find the £50m required to buy a right back of the same quality.

Pointless debate, TAA should play where he’s found his place in this team as he’s superb in that position. Additionally, if he’s going to be captain one day (? ) then I’d prefer that role to be from defence as I think it’s the best position to see all of the game in front of you and try to dictate on pitch change as needed.

Ed u said why move him? Cus Southgate is a Gobrubbish!

8.) 05 Sep 2021 16:27:50
To be fair, Southgate did say a plus point of having Trent in his squads is that he can play CM (said this before the Euros, before Trent got injured), so it's obviously not something he's just decided on for this game.

I agree with the point made by unbelievablejeff above, I think it's more a case of James and Trent being better than Trent and a 6th choice midfielder on the pitch.

Hope he smashes it.

The Waist Cost Issas incompetent as they come so not sure why his comments are being taken seriously. The guy played a diff first 11 in each game during the Euros and wonders why England were so disjointed all tournament long. I stopped caring what he had to say about Trent when he hung him out to dry and let the media skate him just cos he had no idea what to do with a brilliant specimen like Trent

As for Trent playing in midfield, I’m with Ed as I’ve been on this topic. Why move him whereas he is arguably the best on the planet? To prove what, exactly?

And if anyone has issues about why we don’t score goals from midfield then go watch the Klopp presser before the Burnley game. He explained everything there.

I was dissapointed with Trent. I go not think that he took his opportunity today.

Peteprice as a matter of fact trent effectively did play in the middle against Chelsea while salah stayed wide. When teams are playing low block he does move central.
