So, according to Sky, Bayern Munich will be back with an offer for Sadio that matches Liverpool’s valuation.

Sadio gets the new challenge and contract he wants,

BM get the player they want.

Liverpool get the amount they want.

A win-win-win situation.

Good business on our part.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 17 Jun 2022 12:38:39
I wouldn’t be placing too much trust on what sky sports news says.

Bayern are in town for talks today.
No doubt something will be resolved this weekend.
Will it be for the £42mil we priced him at remains to be seen.
I doubt it though.

2.) 17 Jun 2022 12:46:07
Yeah great deal that just about half pays the Nunez deal and the saving on wages from what a new contract Mane would have been granted helps keeps the wage budget lower.

3.) 17 Jun 2022 13:24:22
Think it'll be a bit below the £42.5m meself.

4.) 17 Jun 2022 13:42:07
I suspect it will be the usual contract these days - short of the 42.5 but will be about the figure with the add ons.

5.) 17 Jun 2022 15:33:07
Read something that said Southampton are entitled to a % of anything over what we paid for him. Can any of the Eds tell us if that's true please?

{Ed002's Note - That is correct.}

6.) 17 Jun 2022 15:42:31
Brilliant tweet from CPHQ over on Twatter

Sadio Manes record vs Crystal Palace
Games: 14
Goals: 13
Assists: 3
Wins: 13

He can't hurt us anymore ?.

7.) 17 Jun 2022 16:04:50
Thanks Ed002.

8.) 17 Jun 2022 16:11:26
Sly saying the deal is done. £27.5m with a further £5m based on appearances and another £2.5m based on individual and team achievements.

9.) 17 Jun 2022 19:40:29
Absolutely gutted about him going. I know players move on but I just think he was a brilliant player.

10.) 18 Jun 2022 02:11:07
Sadio has been a fantastic player for us and played a part in pretty much all our major successes. I wish him the best of luck, he leaves a modern day club icon and will always be welcome back.

18 Jan 2022 23:08:29
Eds, if you have the time can you provide a quick update on the likelihood of departures during the current window, please?

The press have made intermittent mention of Nat Phillips, Neco Williams and Big Div but it all seems a bit like rumours rather than anything concrete.

West Derby Wanderer

{Ed002's Note - It will be no different to that I previously explained.}

1.) 19 Jan 2022 08:32:04
You'd like to think poor Nat can get himself a move!

2.) 19 Jan 2022 01:30:46
Thanks for the response Ed - seems apart from Aston Villa and perhaps Newcastle there’s not a lot of activity.

3.) 19 Jan 2022 08:54:25
Burnley are going to need him for division 1, when 1/ 2 of their CB's leave.
With the toon buying Carlos, they are out, and no new word on West Ham .
Ed's say he's overpriced, but what else can be bought for 12/ 15m?

4.) 19 Jan 2022 09:33:46
Best option would be to loan for rest of season and then look to sell him in the summer.

5.) 19 Jan 2022 23:02:13
Isnt Nat still out injured with a broken cheekbone? In which case that could effect the likelihood of him leaving.

6.) 20 Jan 2022 04:26:58
Back in training according to Lijnders.

7.) 20 Jan 2022 12:18:08
I think Newcastle will come in at the end of the window and make a bid close to what we’re asking as all their other attempts are falling on their arse.

8.) 20 Jan 2022 14:07:08
Can’t you just put a Zoro mask on for a broken cheekbone and carry on playing?

I read a report on Sky Sort that we are going to offer Keita as part of a swap deal for Barella.

I have to say that I checked the date to see if it’s April 1st.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 21 Jun 2022 11:15:23
WDW I see that yesterday then just see it on sky sports new this morning with what ed002 has said about Naby not sure if he will get a work permit in Italy probably just a bit of click bait. But we can only dream that would put and end to a great transfer window.

2.) 21 Jun 2022 11:48:50
Sky seem to just be repeating a rumour from Calcio Mercatto.

Fabrizio Romano has stated Keita will be offered an extension.

I can't see a swap deal happening regardless. They're very rare.

3.) 21 Jun 2022 12:14:16
Barella is a fantastic player! But Keita if rumors are to be believed is here to stay.

4.) 21 Jun 2022 12:22:18
Agree with mk. Would be delighted if it happened but can't see a swap happening.

God kieta has some ability. It's really odd when klopp seems to get the most out of everybody it's not clicking with Kieta. He has a good game and you think here we go now then flat again for the next 3-4 games. I've had faith in him for a long long time but it's beginning to wane.

5.) 21 Jun 2022 13:04:06
One assumes if this has any traction whatsoever it's Keita + cash for Barella rather than a straight swap.

Still seems a bit unlikely even at that though.

6.) 21 Jun 2022 13:35:10
The source of all of the stories (Sky today, BBC Gossip overnight, IIRC, and the Echo yesterday (and today, and tomorrow, and Thursday etc) ) is Calcio Mercatto as Adam said.

Aray posted it on the Rumours section yesterday.

Would be an awesome, awesome window if true, but I doubt it is anything but tittle tattle.

{Ed0666's Note - There’s tittle tattle and then there’s tittle tattle on steroids and I think this particular bunkum comes under the latter. I’m not sure Thiago would be pleased upon hearing this. Although everyone associated with Liverpool would be delirious if it came to fruition.

7.) 21 Jun 2022 15:33:10
Is Thiago mates with Naby, Ed0666?

{Ed0666's Note - Barella is direct competition for Thiago I would have thought mate.

8.) 21 Jun 2022 16:09:38
Who’s more important to get into the side. A fit Thiago or fit Hendo?

9.) 21 Jun 2022 16:14:43
Ah yes, good point. We do need to be thinking about life after Thiago, but maybe a younger player who is less of an immediate threat to his place would be better. Albeit I'm sure that Barella can play CDM too so I could see him and Thiago in the same midfield?

Imagine Barella and Thiago, with Fabs behind - tasty!

10.) 21 Jun 2022 16:22:33
Yeah ed002 did mention a while back that Liverpool would open to listen to offers for Thiago, not that we are selling but a good offer could tempt them to think about different options.

11.) 21 Jun 2022 16:23:19
Yes, Ed0666, but what is Thiago expecting, exactly? He's at the club he wanted, he's got the salary he wanted (the second highest at the club), and his contract is expiring next summer (he arrived on a 3 year contract. He's on the down curve of his career even though clearly he has a few years to go still. Maybe there's an extension, who knows, but the club can't stop evolving and moving forward. We need long term solution for both of our #8 positions (Hendo and Thiago) and not just one player for each, mind you, over the next 1-3 years.

This is why I absolutely love players like Milner. He gets his head down and just works works works. Players are coming and going all around him, but the man never wavers and continues to bring value to the club. And you never ever hear a peep from, except when it's time to pop the champagne.

{Ed0666's Note - you mean pop the ribena? My point is game time. I’m sure Thiago came to play when he signed and can’t have the second highest wage earner at the club on the bench.

12.) 21 Jun 2022 16:55:25
I don't think Barella and Thiago are alike at all - apart from maybe in height. I see Barella as a right sided no8. He's a counter-pressing machine and would play Hendo's role brilliantly. Thiago is more of a metronome on our left side no8.

{Ed0666's Note - thanks for that pelican

13.) 21 Jun 2022 18:01:32
No way Inter will let go of one of their most prized jewels in Barella and replace him with a player way below his quality in Keita, IMO. Ain’t happening.

14.) 21 Jun 2022 18:07:08
Thiago is more of a metro-gnome.

Thiago or Henderson? Thiago for me.
Henderson relied more on getting around the pitch and he's not as good at that now. I do like Henderson holding though and I think he could cover Fabinho and allow us to have more legs or a goal threat on the right.

15.) 21 Jun 2022 23:48:08
Captain fantastic for me.

16.) 22 Jun 2022 01:25:39
Triple 6 - thoughts on Elliot being the heir apparent to thiago. I see a lot of Thiago in how Elliot plays.

{Ed0666's Note - before his injury I would have been more confident in eulogizing about him and making comparisons. Ask me again after the World Cup mate and I’ll give you my opinion if your still interested pal.

16 Jun 2022 09:42:26
I hereby declare Raphina day is open.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 16 Jun 2022 10:07:16
Not a chance. If he’s stil available in Jan or next summer then yup but I doubt it. He’s too good to be wasting away at Leeds.

2.) 16 Jun 2022 10:30:13
He is Barcelona bound once they stop moaning about the Man city and Psg Axis that is destroying La liga they will get the deal done.

3.) 16 Jun 2022 10:33:46
There is a chance though.

4.) 16 Jun 2022 11:36:22
I personally think that if we sign a RM this summer it'll be between Otavio and Asensio.

5.) 16 Jun 2022 13:56:54
MKS, you keep mentioning Asensio. Are we interested in him? Also if we were, I hope he never sets foot at Anfield as he has gone way worse since his break out season like 6 years ago. Nope, wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. Might as well give Kaide Gordon a go rather that has-been.

{Ed002's Note - Marco Asensio (RW/LW) Goals have largely dried up and his representative is working with a third-party agent to find a club willing to pay something like €40M for the player. The third party has said that the player ideally wants a club in the Champions League but the discussions he has had have been with Leicester City, Newcastle and Leeds so far and admits knocking on the door of other PL clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs.. Player is not open to moving to a side not in the Champions League. Milan and Juventus were approached but showed no interest, although MIlan have since met directly with his Representative to discuss price. I suspect he might be seen as an option by Liverpool. PSG provide a potential option. Real Madrid will be open to using him in a part exchange deal of some type but finding a buyer at the asking price might be difficult but will also perhaps try and do something with Dortmund. A new contract seems unlikely, but Madrid will not want him to run down his contract. Milan could win out.}

6.) 16 Jun 2022 15:41:03
Many thanks, Ed02. for all the info. Hopefully, we don't sign him cos I stopped rating him years ago.

7.) 16 Jun 2022 15:52:42
Asensio is too slow - our attacking play thrives on speed!

09 Jun 2022 01:57:20
It’d be funny if our front three was Diaz, Firmino and Nunez next season and we had Jota and Carvalho on the bench. And we kept Mane and Salah as back up for the League and FA Cups. Just saying.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 09 Jun 2022 07:59:39
WDW always a fan of your posts as one of most sensible on here (alongside me of course :) .

Though not sure I’d want to be managed by you with that mean streak haha.

02 Jun 2022 02:46:06
I’ve been thinking (yeah I know 😁😁)

I believe when we have rumours put on here we should have a category system. So,

Type 1 : Regarded as top class by those ITK but judged by the same people as someone we could never afford - let’s say Mbappe

Type 2 : Regarded as having been top class but now too old or still too much money or who couldn’t perform in the PL or any combination of the above

Type 3 : Regarded as ‘Never going to be’ or ‘Neverwozzers’ by those ITK.

Type 4 : Regarded as great for the team and great value for money.

Type 4 is very rare, In recent times we have had Robbo, Mo, Salah and Luis, and perhaps Thiago although he keeps blotting his copybook by getting injured. The interesting thing about this type is that they generally start out in Type 3 and move into Type 4 with hindsight.

Anyway. Just a thought.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 02 Jun 2022 08:51:14
It is rare because we signed Salah twice. That is value!

02 Jun 2022 02:28:23
Congratulations to Millie on being awarded the MBE.

Not a fan of these particular awards to be honest but as we do have them it is a good thing for them to go to role models and in that case there is nobody in the sport more deserving than Millie.

West Derby Wanderer

{Ed0666's Note - apart from Gareth Bale

1.) 02 Jun 2022 06:09:50
Thanks Ed0666 that made me laugh out loud 😁😁😁.

{Ed0666's Note - who the fu*k decides who gets these honors? Next you’ll have Eds 001 getting one for his services to journalism and me getting one for spelling.

2.) 02 Jun 2022 08:33:27
Come on lads, Bale got his for services to physiotherapy. Jack Wiltshire has been overlooked again!

3.) 02 Jun 2022 08:52:22
Bale did alright for Wales and golf.

4.) 02 Jun 2022 09:00:08
Congrats Milly richly deserved. MBE in his case stands for

" Milner Best Ever " Or " Merseyside's Best Ever "

5.) 02 Jun 2022 09:17:15
Most Boring Ever, more like.
I jest about, Ribena, of course.
I hope he tells them to stick it.
British Empire, what's that all about!?

6.) 02 Jun 2022 07:38:14
Well Ed0666, Gavin Williamson got a knighthood for knowing which Tory MP’s have skeletons in their closet. Which kind of begs the question on what he knows about the crime minister.

7.) 02 Jun 2022 07:56:12
In that case I want one for my services to general grumpiness and cynicism.

8.) 02 Jun 2022 08:18:08
It’s the Queen mate - she’s always been a big fan of Millie’s - loves the attitude and work rate. If ever you get to Buck Palace, you’ll find pictures of him all over the walls.

The thing is - as we have seen with Div and Taki - there is no point in keeping players, or at last players who have ambitions to play regularly, if they aren’t going to get regular game time for us.

Look at our options at left back. We have Robbo, Tsimi, Owen Beck and Adam Lewis and there are probably another two or three working their way through the youth ranks. basically we need two players who specialise in the position and a more ‘all rounder’ who can cover if both first and second choice are injured. We have at least four players who can fill the role. At what point does Tsimi’s (like Taki’s) patience run out.

Look at the options at right back. We have TAA (at 23 probably the best in the world who will only improve to new levels over the next 4 or 5 years) . Ramsay, who most people who have seen him (and quite a lot who haven’t) think is the best thing since sliced bread, Neco Williams, Conor Bradley, Sepp Van den Berg, Joe G (as the all rounder) . Again we need two with the all-rounder as back-up.

Whilst it is great that we have so many options there are probably better options for those who aren’t going to be regulars at Liverpool. If we can make money money and also help youngsters onto a better career path then I’m very happy with that.

Agree Ed0666, I think there is an element of ‘buy British’ about it to pad out the HG contingent. For me, I don’t really get the hype. Nothing against the lad, he is a decent player, nothing more, nothing less but he isn’t somebody who would make me want to go out of my way to get to a game to watch him.

West Derby Wanderer

{Ed0666's Note - yes I can’t disagree with any of that mate.

As an aside and a question for the Eds probably……

How do we decide which pre-season friendliest we wish to take part in and who would primarily make the final selections on preferred opponents?

West Derby Wanderer

{Ed002's Note - Often their are commitments to sponsors that see games played in the Far East or America. Some games are played against local sides when there is remote pre-season training - or other sides training at the same or nearby facilities. Then some clubs are happy to take part in sponsored pre-season round robins. It varies club by club who makes the decisions, but typically it would be nothing to do with the coach.}
