Hi Ed's

Seen as the world cup is nearly here. Do you know of any players we should specifically look out for who are currently on our transfer radar? Or players we are linked with to keep an eye on?

Thanks.

danfield6

{Ed002's Note - Not beyond what has been mentioned.}

1.) 11 Nov 2022 22:34:09
El Hadj Djouff.

2.) 11 Nov 2022 22:50:20
Glen Hysen.

3.) 12 Nov 2022 09:31:33
World Cup is not usually the best place to go shopping or scouting. Bernard Diomede, El Hadj Diouff, Salif Diao, etc.

{Ed001's Note - Diouf and Diao were signed before the World Cup began. It was just that other clubs started showing interest and so it emerged during the tournament we had signed them. Diao was only signed to give Diouf a mate at the club, he was never expected to play regularly.}

4.) 12 Nov 2022 11:59:23
I really thought diao got a raw deal at pool and was a little better than his career at pool suggested. Think he had a decent enough time at stoke after. El hadji was a right scumbag though.

5.) 12 Nov 2022 14:13:27
Diouf was signed largely on Patrice Burges' recommendation. Would've been nice if he'd told his mate Ged why Diouf was on his 3rd club at just 21 though.

6.) 12 Nov 2022 17:16:17
Hope we can find another Divock Origi.

7.) 12 Nov 2022 21:24:20
Or a Suarez.

8.) 12 Nov 2022 22:09:33
Salif Diao plays in every single Liverpool “legends” charity game must have more appearances in them than he actually had for us.

9.) 12 Nov 2022 22:33:13
We should seriously look at Japanese team, they have really technical players like Doan who star for FC freiburg.

10.) 12 Nov 2022 22:49:12
Onekiss, I remember going to a pre season friendly, I think it wasbat Crewe and even though he hadn't played for the club for years Dioa came out to do a warm up before the game. We were all baffled.

11.) 13 Nov 2022 01:25:59
I think we can all agree that diao is a fluffen boss.

12.) 13 Nov 2022 09:11:52
Solid Diao may not have been great, but I don’t recall him ever doing anything to untoward on the pitch during his few appearances, nor do I recall any attitude problems unlike his supposed mate the waste of space. Still can’t believe we signed him instead of Anelka ?‍♂️.

13.) 13 Nov 2022 15:54:38
What is really pathetic is that Diouf is still at it; spitting venom at the club every chance he gets. The man is still living in the past; things must have, and are still, downhill, since he left.

14.) 14 Nov 2022 10:37:38
Ultimately, selling Fowler, not taking up the Anelka option and buying Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou was the beginning of the end for Ged. A mare not disimilar to Brendan's post-Suarez business.

Been taking a look at Carvalho and he seems to be a player who would suit us has a decent shot on him etc . How do you think we will be using him? More of a Coutinho type player? Maybe a wide forward or will he be more of a central attacker? I can’t work out what his best position is but I like the fact he can play a few roles so it makes us fluid but anyone who’s seen him consistently what do you think his position is? Where do you see him being used by us?

danfield6

1.) 04 Jun 2022 15:47:18
It’s a big step up for the young lad. Doing the business for Fulham In the championship is a totally different ball game to producing the goods at Liverpool. Even Harry Wilson produced great stats there this season and he couldn’t even get into our match day squad most weeks when he was here.

That’s not me righting Carvalho off but just saying let’s give the lad time to find his feet in a new league and club before we start pinning hopes on him being a starter.

2.) 04 Jun 2022 16:20:13
I’m excited by Carvalho. Sat by the pool with a beer watching him rip teams apart on pre season 😂
I think he has a lot of Coutinho in him like you said but his work rate is not enough YET for Klopps Liverpool.

3.) 04 Jun 2022 16:21:37
^^^^^^^
What JK just said 👍.

4.) 04 Jun 2022 16:28:53
Agree JK definitely need to give the likes of Fabio and Harvey time.

One thing both have is as youngsters is experience playing in a physical league. 38 games last season for Fulham. Harvey Elliot little bit of set back with his injury last year but year before quite a few games at Blackburn.

5.) 04 Jun 2022 16:47:47
JK is spot on in my opinion. If he does live up to expectation i think he'll end up on the left of the midfield 3. He'd play the role completely differently to Thiago or Gini though. More like Ox did pre-knee-injury when we started calling it the Fab Front 4.

6.) 04 Jun 2022 17:24:15
If Carvalho can make a central midfield attacking position his own, then, in my view, it adds a hell of lot to our attack. Robbo and TAA are always attacking up the flanks ball at feet, and then to add another threat in the middle, before the ball actually reaches the forwards, would be a God send. Let's see how it pans out.

7.) 04 Jun 2022 18:47:33
There is a very good video on YouTube with regard to Carvalhos performance against Man City (Away) in the FA Cup, he was very impressive, led them a merry dance, they couldn't get the ball off him, wonder if this is when LFC first showed an interest. Exceptional Talent has a fantastic career ahead of him.

Looks like his best position is either Right or Left Wing, looks more like a creator than a ball winner.

8.) 05 Jun 2022 01:47:07
Think Klopp will probs play him as a wide forward initially or as a sub in the centre in games that are legit over. It’s a lot of pressure to play CM and a big step up for him where mistakes as CM can easily turn into goals.

9.) 05 Jun 2022 12:57:44
I hope he plays as far away from our central midfield as possible. Same as Elliot. We'll run the attacking out of them haha.

10.) 05 Jun 2022 16:47:37
If LFC and Klopp were so convinced about Fabio’s ability as a kid to the point of signing him to be an option in the first team then, it must mean that the kid has it. Let’s not out too much pressure on the kid and let’s allow him to learn at his own pace. Same for Elliott and all of our young players.

So I will attempt to pick the cup final team. Be good to hear thoughts and others starting 11’s . I’m going to go with and inspired by a previous poster for the idea .

Allison
Trent Konate Virg Robbo

Matip
Hendo. Thiago

Salah. Mane. Diaz.

danfield6

1.) 13 May 2022 13:57:11
Another mad one for discussing purposes . What about Trent in an 8 and hendo in the 6 with Gomez at right back?

2.) 13 May 2022 13:57:39
Actually think Matip could pull of the DM role but no chance we're experimenting in a cup final lol.

I'd actually really like us to play with 4-2-4 we've switched to a few times this season, it'd cause Chelsea some problems im sure.

3.) 13 May 2022 14:03:02
Matip at DM wouid be a fantastic news for Chelsea.

4.) 13 May 2022 14:05:48
Matip has never played DM for us, why would you suddenly try it in a cup final?

Just cos he can pass the ball doesn't mean he can push into midfield. He doesn't have the requisite experience of the position in terms of the tactical and positional responsibility.

5.) 13 May 2022 14:07:58
I do not see Matip playing the holding role only midfield 3 i see starting is Hendo with thiago and keita in front, millie to replace keita later in the game.

6.) 13 May 2022 14:11:54
Keita for matip, and hendo in the middle, otherwise the same as you.

7.) 13 May 2022 14:23:34
Now when has Matip EVER played DM🤦.

{Ed002's Note - Regularly for Schalke.}

8.) 13 May 2022 14:42:39
I meant for Liverpool Ed002 should have said.

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware, but he can.}

9.) 13 May 2022 14:44:59
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Milner. Thiago and Henderson in midfield on Saturday. Not sure where Elliott has been recently?

10.) 13 May 2022 14:45:19
I think if you’re ever going to experiment with a team then a cup final is the perfect game for it.

For the CL final I wouldn’t mind seeing Robbo have a crack in goal with Origi at Centre back.

11.) 13 May 2022 15:07:15
Don't be silly JK.

Firmino should be in goal.

12.) 13 May 2022 15:16:56
There's not a chance Trent ever starts a game in midfield for Liverpool whilst Klopp is manager. He might wander in there from RB from time to time but he'll never start a game there. Our manager, unlike the England manager, doesn't act on what pundits/ media say.

13.) 13 May 2022 16:14:32
Maxx, Matip started his Schalke career at DM BUT that was a decade ago till he was moved back to CB much later.

As for those still clamouring for Trent to play in midfield as in a position he has only once for us, I ask this question: If Klopp thought he could play there, wouldn't he have played him there even during preseason already?

14.) 13 May 2022 16:22:12
JK, we need Bobby on somewhere or Salah and Mane can't score so keeper is a good shout 😜

But back to Matip, Ed002 was he a regular in that position for Schalke or just if injuries to others required it?

{Ed002's Note - I have answered that.}

15.) 13 May 2022 18:16:45
Trent has the ability to play in midfield, no doubt about that. But he's deemed to be more effective from right back.
It seems to have worked for him and the team in the last 3 or 4 seasons.

16.) 14 May 2022 01:52:23
Reasons to not push TAA into the midfield:

1) Playing RB for LFC is not the same as playing midfield. RB means you need to focus on basically 90 to 180 degrees, on your left. Midfield means vision of almost 180 to 360 degrees around you. The left, the right, the front and the back. Can be done of course, but only after a hell of a lot of tactical training.
2) Midfield requires a lot more situational awareness than I think that TAA uses now as RB. He's very often zooming up the right side, and leaves space behind him (that is usually covered by someone else) . In midfield, in our system, he'd have to become the one covering the rushing RB or LB.
3) I guess the clamor to move him to midfield is because of his passing ability. But you have Thiago who provides this already, and just as well. What's the point then? Where and how have you added value? Why are you taking away an absolutely lethal ability of pin point passes from the right (TAA's replacement at RB won't have this, whoever it is, right now) .
4) Replace Keita? TAA can match Keita for defensive and tackling ability, but I don't think he can dribble past players with the ease that Keita does (when he's up for a game once in a blue moon) . And I think Klopp likes Keita for his ability to move forward with the ball at his feet.
5) Replace Hendo? Nope. I'd prefer a Bellingham or a Tchouameni in that position. Whenever it's time for Hendo to pass on the baton. But I can see TAA assuming an increasing leadership role from his RB position.

I suppose TAA could play midfield at some point. But I don't think it would work without a full summer of tactical training. For now, moving him seems taking out more from the team's abilities than adding anything more or new.

Does anyone know exactly why Pep thought it necessary to make the comments he’s made? I get the maybe he’s doing it to deflect from the failure to reach Paris but to suggest the country are Liverpool fans is nonsense.

Maybe certain parts of the media want us to do it as many underdog comeback articles could have been written about a team fighting for a quadruple. But he’s deluded if he thinks most rival fans from particular the big 6 sides etc want us to win the league. I wonder why we waited to make these remarks until after they go 3 points clear with a plus 4 goal difference over us.

Is he thinking about us this much? As he’s got no need to as since the 2-2 at the etihad it’s been in his hands . I just hope that this ends up being significant and city stumble against Wolves and or West Ham similar to the Keegan “I would love it” rant .

When Fergie was at United he used to pinpoint when he had got into a managers head and momentum would swing in his favour .

I just wonder if this could be a pivotal moment. One things for sure it’s absolutely advantage City right now but with 3 games to go and 3 defenders missing maybe just maybe Wolves, Villa and West Ham may just have a say in this yet .

If the city players and pep think it’s done now and wrapped up could that be the biggest threat to their season? One things for sure Klopp our superb players and our incredible fans won’t give up until the final whistle on the 22nd May .

We have 2 huge cup finals to play and 3 massive league games . What a ride this has been and you never know if fate can take one final turn and come the 28th we are the quadruple winning reds and until that is no longer possible I will keep believing as I trust this team and our club .

Maybe when all is said and done these comments from pep may end up being etched into history as the day he took his eye off his own team to worry about us .

All the best Redmen the focus is now firmly on Villa tomorrow let’s do this.

1.) 09 May 2022 10:12:28
Well if he did it to wind LFC fans up it seems to have worked. Personally I've not even looked to see what he's said and from what I've read comment wise I won't be losing any sleep over it.

2.) 09 May 2022 10:19:03
Yeah I agree I certainly won’t lose sleep over it . But there are 2 ways a wind up can go . One way it can wind us up and we can take our eye of the ball and lose our heads but also it can be used as a way to spur us on to better things I’m hoping it’s the latter and we go on to take the treble as a minimum but if he slips up and we get to take that title on the final day it could prove a significant set of comments . I still firmly believe in us.

3.) 09 May 2022 10:53:48
Living rent free in his polished slaphead.

Deep down he knows that he’s part of a sports washing project, he also knows that he’s he’s been in the two financially dominant sides in the last two leagues he’s managed in (even more so with City) and he’s not got a sniff of winning the biggest prize. To use an analogy, it’s all very well being the flat track bully in county cricket, but you’ll likely be found wanting against better opponents at international level.

His success is down to having the deepest pockets, he’s spent nearly a billion quid (£918017363). He ought to be winning the league with that outlay. The fact he hasn’t won a European cup shows that he’s also not as infallible as he thinks he is.

4.) 09 May 2022 11:42:24
I always thought that trying to get into another team’s / fans heads is a compliment. If he wasn’t fussed about us being a threat he wouldn’t say anything.

Good to know that he is rattled.

5.) 09 May 2022 12:45:43
Take it as a compliment.

You cannot buy culture and heritage. I mean they built a Joe Hart statue and named a training pitch after him for goodness sake.

6.) 09 May 2022 13:02:51
Personally i love a bit of $h1thousery, there’s not enough of it in football these days (the non-cheating sort of course) . If that’s what he’s attempted to do then fair play.

It’s just that i’m not having that for one second. I actually do just think he’s mouthing off about his own insecurities. It kills him that nobody really cares about their success because they’re a small club backed by a sovereign nation, with nothing romantic or genuine to hold onto. The fans can’t even fill their allocation in cup semi finals and the best support they get from the stands is when somebody waves a little blue plastic flag. They’re going for a fourth league title out of five and that’s not even enough for them, they barely even enjoy it (even though they blag that it’s the most important trophy) . They need that Champions League for legitimacy, to make them feel accepted, and they can’t get their hands on it.

It’s a fate no less than he deserves. Their players, their fans, and now their coach are just classless individuals, utterly consumed by the pathetic small club mentality that dictates their behaviour. I could list every incident where such behaviour was exhibited but i’m not going to do that, we all know what i’m referring to.

Im not going to say it will come back to bite him because i do kind of feel the league is done, it’s just a shame a moment of glory like that is being wasted on an institution like City. Any other club would be revelling in it, but they just can’t stop crying. They’re as fake and soulless as it gets and nothing is ever enough. They’re a microcosm of the sorry state of the modern world.

7.) 09 May 2022 13:57:47
Maybe he should have joined a club with a bigger fanbase but he will only take the easy option.

8.) 09 May 2022 18:24:54
It’s not that everyone’s a Liverpool fan, it’s just that City have no fans and all the neutrals think they are a plastic, classless, fake club that financially cheats, so love to see them fail and hate to see them do well.

9.) 10 May 2022 10:38:02
If Pep just did a piece of s-housery/ gamesmanship for the first time after potentially winning the tile then, fair play. This is not what he did. How do I know? Pep NEVR stops talking about LFC. It's so bad, he brings us up whereas the topic is not even about us.

We all know that Pep hates LFC and can't stand us a a club, a fan base and our manager who continues to either pummel him to win things OR to make him suffer to win the things he wins despite the advantages he has over Klopp. And the fact that Klopp has made his 3rd CL final in 5 yrs while he is still an abject failure at this stage, is literally eating him up and he can't keep it inside.

Now the whole "Liverpool have only won title in 30 years" rubbish is what done me. That is what I expect from a sore loser, bitter rival fan. Not from a manager of a top club. For me, that crossed the line cos managers need to be better and do better. Samuel Eto'o said it best: Pep is all nice and cool when things are going his way and he is getting all the love. As soon as things go pear-shaped and he is challenged the way he, Zlatan, Yaya, Klopp etc. did then, this is what he is like: Cringeworth, passive aggressive, arrogant, obsessed and a crybaby. He fits City and their fanbase to a T.

I think many factors need to be taken in to account here . Bobby is having a good season . Personally I love the guy. But we need to also think about what he can do off the pitch as well as in it . He’s a great pro I believe he did some great work with some of the youth players and has shown an appetite to coach the younger players in training etc . So why not keep him at the club let him get badges and have a new boot room forming . James Milner would be part of that also. These are players that are winners and they have done it with our club. He’s settled he’s happy his family is happy . I’m not talking about sentiment but I am talking about making sure we build some people in our back room staff that can take us forward in the future. Bobby deserves a 2 years extension but I think it should include a term that he will look to add badges with us and progress that route in the club.

I don’t think Bellingham will ever sign for Liverpool personally. But even if a possibility existed then Dortmund wouldn’t sell Haaland and Bellingham in the same window anyway . I do think we need a midfielder though.

I don’t actually mind the conference league to be honest but I also used to like the old cup winners cup competition so I’m used to 3 European competitions but yeah World Cup every two years is a no go for me and this super league nonsense has to disappear in my opinion.

I agree there is a very toxic side to it all now mate . I haven’t been to a Derby since the gerrard hat trick and that got rough later in town . It’s a shame . I wish you well mate always hope you stay up.

Hi I miss the days of our friendly rivalry and for me I would love to see Everton 2nd every season in the league to Liverpool. My grandad was a huge blue he even hated one of my aunties ex’s as he had a resemblance to Ian Rush. My Nan is a massive red my grandad was blue and derby day was a great experience growing up . My grandad unfortunately has passed away now but Everton have been amazing regarding this they put his name and picture up on the screen and actually gave me a signed shirt which I will put on the wall with a picture of him . I have never hated Everton I used to go Goodison with him regularly but I was always a red from birth . I understand most of the toxic behaviour now stems from Heysel but I much prefer the friendly Derby but I fear those days are long gone . I worry for Everton this year as I feel they are going down as they don’t have a talisman to keep them up . I hope they stay up and like I said for me Liverpool champions and Everton 2nd every year will do me it’s good for the city to have us both challenging. Sorry for the rant and a happy new year to you all red or blue.

danfield6

{Ed025's Note - i dont think it stems from heysel dan, i believe its a social problem that stems from a general lack of respect from the modern generation, banter has been replaced by violence and toxic chanting by both sets of fans mate which has ended my love affair with the derbies, i have not been to one for over 10 years and will not go to one ever again..

Born in Liverpool here so I will watch the World Cup as it’s been a habit since 1986 so I will watch it I do not support England in anyway shape or form but I like to watch good football and pick a side . I prefer our players have good tournaments and come back healthy first and foremost. I’m going to be hoping the Brazilian lads do well so I hope either Uruguay, Brazil or Holland win it for me . I wish Ireland had qualified as I enjoyed 94.

I love watching world cups and euros as a spectacle. But I can’t stand England (born in Liverpool) I always back the Irish or Wales if they qualify. But I normally pick a team and support them for it . But I try to watch all the games have done since Italia 90. I am liking the Dutch or Brazil this time.

But he’s still developing. This was a criticism aimed at Salah prior to joining us . It’s more concerning when these players don’t get in to the positions in order to miss the chances in my opinion.
