Ed 25.
Early Christmas present for you young man
What a result!

denzil

{Ed025's Note - it was a really gritty performance denzil and i thought we well deserved the win mate, lacking a bit of quality but the effort was immense..

1.) 07 Dec 2023 22:28:22
Like you say you can handle lack of quality if the effort is100%!

{Ed025's Note - absolutely denzil mate..

Hi Ed 01. Have I missed something- did you publish a match report for Spurs game? Love Reading them.

denzil

{Ed001's Note - yes mate it is here: Spurs v Liverpool match review.}

1.) 08 Oct 2023 11:30:08
Cant disagree with a word of that, Ed.

2.) 08 Oct 2023 11:30:20
A spot on review as usual eds1.
One thing that I thought was strange was at halftime sky didn’t show any reply’s of the offside at all or even talk about it. It was like it never happened and almost like they had been told not to.

{Ed001's Note - they must have been asked/told not to mention it.}

3.) 08 Oct 2023 11:50:37
Watching the rugby World Cup yesterday a try was awarded and the conversion taken but while this was going on VAR was looking at a infringement in play, play was stopped brought back and points deducted and resumed without any fuss. what's the problem with football VAR they need to take a leaf out of there book.

{Ed002's Note - So what happens after the restart if the other side score a goal? Just scratch it off?}

4.) 08 Oct 2023 12:18:30
Hi Ed.
In the circumstance of no change to score and same teams possession could it be pulled back then?

{Ed002's Note - It would cause chaos to come up with different scenarios. They will do what they can to improve matters as I have explained.}

5.) 08 Oct 2023 12:23:30
Ed002 - yes, if an error has been made then it follows that everything that occured after that situation is effectively null and void, as it seems to be in what was described above. I have no issue with that as long as it's clear that it can happen.

{Ed002's Note - So Liverpool will be happy with a goal being scratched off? Fine by me.}

6.) 08 Oct 2023 13:30:21
Cheers Ed.
Always a good read.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

7.) 08 Oct 2023 13:45:12
The thing is the rugby game would not have been allowed to re-start until the conclusion of the video ref's input.
All the players were aware that a review was taking place.

The crucial point here though is that the video ref arrived at the correct decision, so totally different.

8.) 08 Oct 2023 16:18:09
We’re seeing now the damage it’s caused all round for Liverpool and the benefit it’s had for spurs.

9.) 08 Oct 2023 16:33:09
It's very easy to solve. Allthey had to do was say "goal" or "no goal" Sorted.

As for chalking a goal off if one is scored whilst the check is on going, then yes. Again, very simple.

VAR was brought in to solve these issues. It hasn't. It has failed on many levels. I hate to agree with Mr Southgate, but it isn't fit for the purpose it was intended for.

I'd rather a ref or linesman get it wrong than a system that gas cost clubs millions of pounds to implement and is as useful as a chocolate teapot.

10.) 08 Oct 2023 18:11:28
Yes Rugby officiate much better than in football. It stems I believe from a fundamental respect for the referee that goes from grass roots all the way up. If you talk back to the ref in Rugger you’re off, No questions asked and rightly so. Need this discipline in football.

11.) 08 Oct 2023 18:41:49
Is the one making the effort to end corruption a person from city? coz it's looking like they would do anything to give advantage to city every single time. can't really remember anything going against them. only that trent handball. mind you it still wouldn't have been a pen as it hit bernardo silvas hand before it hit trent then.

12.) 08 Oct 2023 20:12:12
Does anyone else find it scary that we have officials that would rather stick to a flawed protocol than actually get to the correct decision?

I mean, what are they there for if it’s not to get decisions correct?

Surely giving a goal that you’ve just confirmed is a legal goal trumps any IFAB protocol? If it doesn’t then the game is well and truly screwed.

13.) 08 Oct 2023 21:36:05
Their excuse to not give the goal is they can’t go against protocol and the law after the game is restarted. The laws of the game is when someone is onside it’s a goal. Common sense was needed imo. Decent point today. Feels like points lost tho. Kovacic very lucky to not see a red today. Just shows the inconsistency of refs. But everything is subjective. We’re looking good this season, loads more energy. Macca needs to move further upfield and play to his strengths. Nobody to sit in holding midfield, that’s why everyone was calling for a CDM.

14.) 08 Oct 2023 21:58:24
Beckers pecker, It is cos they are told to "apply the rules to the letter of the law" rather than manage the games, use discretion and the human element (that same thing they say they want to maintain) and most importantly, uphold the integrity of the game.

Hence rather than uphold the integrity of the game and get to the correct decision even when told to do so by the VAR manager, the VAR's chose to hide behind some stupid IFAB rule/ "protocol" cos they thought if they do so hence allowing the injustice to continue, nobody would find out about such a dumpster fire. You should go watch Sky Saturday where Merson absolutely torches Mike Dean aboiut this.

15.) 08 Oct 2023 22:36:28
As has been mentioned online. In the 2006 WC final, Zidane headbutted Materasi in the chest and no officials saw it happen in real time. However, one of the cameras in the stadium caught the incident. And so did the 4th official whpo had a decision to make. Does he break protocol and inform the ref? Or does "hide" behind protocol and do nothing and allow the injustice to stand. The 4th official upheld the integrity of the game, "broke protocol" and informed the ref. Ref sees the clip on the touchline monitor, marches back on the pitch, points to Zidane and sends him off. The 4th official was hailed as a hero who respected the integrity of the game. Can't say the same for these cowardly lot masquerading as referees.

As for the Brighton game, very frustrating indeed mainly due to the soft goals we conceded mainly due to individuall errors which is something that has plagued us all season. We got to accept it and move on. Remember after a qtr of the season, we are 1 point behind the favs. City. We would all have take that when the season began.

28 Aug 2023 00:33:25
Great result today!
Couple of things though- I like the new rule for booking for time wasting but I don't think Trent was trying to time waste. He was more aghast at the awful decision not to give him an obvious free kick for a clear and obvious push! Okay so he shouldn't throw the ball and so we will accept the card.
Now, the other new rule is you can't try and get another player carded so why weren't half of the Newcastle team and management booked for trying to get Trent sent off?
What a load of old rubbish!
Rant over- three points. Also love the Klopp wink!

denzil

1.) 28 Aug 2023 00:44:02
Denzil, the ref had an absolute howler of a game and it started right from that play. How is it possible ththat Trent does not get the clear and obvious foul on him and then he gets a booking for overreacting at being aghast at not gestting it? How is that time-wasting?

Had the ref just done his job and gave the clear foul that we all agreed it was, there is no drama. This is why the English refs are abject. They are too busy trying to be the stroy instead of just reffing the game. He was all aeager to book Trent the first time YET how Joelington finished that game with all the fouls he xas committing? I will never know.

2.) 28 Aug 2023 02:26:47
And how gordan got no card for arguing for trents second yellow? Is that rule only there for us? They were showing imaginary cards all over the game.

3.) 28 Aug 2023 03:50:47
What about deliberately breaking up play with tactical fouls? They have overtaken City at this. Joelinton got a talking to b4 half time then fouled immediately after. no cards. The Ref was awful!

4.) 28 Aug 2023 04:02:36
It did feel like the ref was playing against us at times. Most 50-50 decisions went Newcastle's way especially in the earlier stages. Can't argue with either of TAA's yellow or VVD's red but they were soft and could have gone either way. Have to say that TAA was lucky to avoid a red too when he fouled Gordon almost immediately after his yellow but he cooled down and kept Gordon quiet for most of the game bar the goal.

5.) 28 Aug 2023 06:12:25
It’s a very difficult one for me. The refs have to draw the line somewhere and at some point a team is going to be made an example of, as we nearly were yesterday. The ref should have called a foul on Trent yes, but then all Trent had to do was accept the bad call as all adults have to do several times in their daily lives avoiding the deserved yellow card, and all this talk of sent off would not be occurring. He likely would have got a booking then for the ‘blocking’ of Gordon and that would have been it. We all love our team and players, but we must look inwards for self discipline and betterment rather than take the easy option to blame externally. It is the only way we grow and improve.

6.) 28 Aug 2023 06:57:19
It’s a quick learning curve that if you throw the ball away it’s an automatic yellow. Fine as long as it is consistent.
Trent done well after his horrid start, lack of concentration on the goal, way too casual.

7.) 28 Aug 2023 06:57:28
think it's a bit like Pickford's tackle on Virgil. there was so much going on the refs weren't able to process everything.

8.) 28 Aug 2023 07:48:30
Van Dijk shouldn't have reacted to his red card the way he did after his stupid tackle either.

9.) 28 Aug 2023 08:27:14
My thoughts on the key decisions:
- Trent first yellow: I mean come one, was as obvious a push in the back as you are likely to see this season, how is that not a free kick? I get the annoyance Trent has with the decision, but he shouldn't through the ball away - in fairness to him though, he is blatantly shoved in the back, it's clearly a free kick
- The 'second yellow' he should have got - yeah the arm is outstretched but barely touches Gordon. Gordon throws himself to the ground, I mean that much should be obvious to all watching it - I'm annoyed watching MOTD that not one of the pundits mentioned this, though Shearer is a Newcastle fan
- The VVD one - I honestly thought he got the ball when I first watched it. Like Micah Richards said though, it took several replays to show he took the player out first - was it a foul then? If we're honest, yes it was as VVD's foot goes through Isaks and takes him out. Is it a red card though? A soft one in my humble opinion, but I can see why VAR did not override the decision

Again, we looked better at 10 men, particular when Jota and Elliott came on and we pressed later on in the game. Nunez looked class, took both his goals really, really well - so clinical in both occasions

Trent stayed out more as fb, for me again showing 3 games into the new season that we look better when we go to 4 at the back instead of this hybrid role. Allisson was brilliant - that save from Almiron was just unreal

Great team performance and loved getting the 3 points. On paper anyway, 2 very tough away games to Chelsea and Newcastle and we come away with 4 points from the two - cannot be bad to that!

10.) 28 Aug 2023 08:30:20
Dracred you think that was a foul on Gordon I think it was more of he touched his shoulder didn’t even pull him.

11.) 28 Aug 2023 09:56:24
Yeah but that's the problem. There is no consistency and we will NEVER get it so Im over that. Joelington get booked after 7 fouls. Trent gets booked harshly for pushing the ball away after he is blatantly fouled and the ref blatantly ignored it and the Newcastle fans wanted second booking both cases?

Also, I just read a couple of Newactle fans' comments on youtube where he absolutely berated his team and Eddie Howe for bottling it. They slammed them for wanting to play with 9 men whereas they had 11 v 10 advantage for 75 mins (including added time for both halves) and got done. He never dwelled upon the Trent red or no red. At least, some common sense still exists.

12.) 28 Aug 2023 10:43:43
Hi Longthing. Yes, I see that as a foul. A tactical one but a foul nonetheless. But in hindsight, after looking at it again, I don't think it is deserving of a yellow. So that's my bad for saying that TAA was lucky to avoid another one for that foul.

Very bad news: Naby Keita not available this weekend because of injury. F**k me!

denzil

1.) 12 May 2023 11:58:44
That's a big loss. I'm not sure we stand a chance Monday.

2.) 12 May 2023 12:20:45
Sprained his ankle getting off the treatmenttable apparently.

3.) 12 May 2023 13:29:16
Thiago’s done his back in picking up his massive £220k wad.

4.) 12 May 2023 14:25:04
Damn. He might miss his send off vs. Villa. That'd be awful.

5.) 12 May 2023 14:51:59
It would be more newsworthy and shocking if he was actually fit and available.

6.) 12 May 2023 15:24:44
I never like to criticise a player, but he's one of our worse signings ever. For the money we paid, then waiting a year to see him play. Waste of talent.

7.) 12 May 2023 15:44:36
He only has himself to blame.

8.) 12 May 2023 16:47:51
What an utter and complete disaster this guy has been. Sigh. ?.

9.) 12 May 2023 16:48:22
Firmino being out worries me he deserves to play one more time at anfield, i don’t care if he’s in a wheelchair give him 10 seconds at the end of our final home game.

10.) 12 May 2023 17:21:32
Without naming them (we know who they all are) these players that are always injured have caused the rapid Decline of Hendo Fabinho Virg etc.
Just never available to share the load, run the miles etc.
The same injured players time and time again, get rid of the lot.

11.) 12 May 2023 17:23:51
What a germ of a signing.

12.) 12 May 2023 17:40:22
This is weird. He's been Liverpool's worst ever signing but he hasn't played for the club for months, won't ever play for the club again but he's still living rent free in some people's heads.

13.) 12 May 2023 18:31:24
I don't really give a damn about Keita anymore. But as OneKiss send, I so so so badly wish that Bobby is fit enough for Villa. Fingers crossed.

14.) 12 May 2023 19:45:54
You watch him play every game at his new club next season.

15.) 12 May 2023 19:47:44
Thunderbird get over it, keita has fleeced us.

16.) 12 May 2023 20:40:03
Probably sustained a groin injury there's no doubt that part of his anatomy gets plenty of practice just a shame his gob doesn't work as well.

17.) 12 May 2023 20:57:47
Keita is probably our worse signing ever for money paid along with Diouf.

18.) 12 May 2023 21:14:35
No news day huh?

19.) 12 May 2023 23:17:44
I’d drive Keita to any airport free of charge.

20.) 12 May 2023 23:28:43
Is their room for a few others?

21.) 13 May 2023 08:52:30
We had a chance to get rid in Jan via a loan and either we didn’t do it or couldn’t do it. Either way, we got done by signing him and I remember ED02 saying we would regret signing him due to his wretched attitude and alas, history has proven him right. Sad.

10 Oct 2022 09:06:30
Arsenal are a good side and on the balance were deserved winners. They have good players playing well with confidence.
However, I don't understand decisions any more and it seems to be getting worse in each and every game. Why was the handball not given as a penalty. They talk about proximity to the ball but then two handballs were given against Liverpool for similar if not closer proximity. Its just they were outside the box and therefore not resulting in a penalty.
If that is the case, because the threshold is somehow higher in those circumstances ie in the box, why was the penalty given for the slightest of touches and someone going down like a sack of s##the when Diaz was kicked and pulled and never got a foul outside the box.
That would never have been given elsewhere on the pitch.
I'll say it again: beaten by a better side but difficult to take these decisions!

denzil

1.) 10 Oct 2022 09:22:10
Refs have no choice mate. Need to keep Arsenal in the race for as long as possible because City have turned the prem into the French league.
I think after last season when the Refs clearly favoured City with the decisions, ie the Everton handball.
They realised the damage it’s caused the prem, then you’ve got the embarrassing title celebration with no fans. It’s not great for the premier league at all. Damaging the brand.

{Ed014's Note - give the bitterness a rest mate, it’s just embarrassing! ?‍♂️

2.) 10 Oct 2022 09:33:15
We didn’t lose to Arsenal because of refereeing incompetence. We lost because we simply weren’t good enough in defence or midfield. All of their goals came through consecutive mistakes. Even the play leading to the penalty. Can’t blame the ref for us being s***.

3.) 10 Oct 2022 09:35:56
Au Contraire my good friend. If Liverpool can’t win it I’m more than happy to let Man City win it every season aslong as United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton etc don’t… it’s just not a good look for the league from the outside is what I’m getting at. PSG, Bayern for example.
Im happy to let City run riot every season should Liverpool not be good enough, after all, who hates Man City? ??‍♂️?.

4.) 10 Oct 2022 09:42:16
Neither were penalties yesterday.
The way Jesus went down was embarrassing but you can't blame him because there was contact.

{Ed001's Note - yes you can blame him and he should be blamed for cheating. We moan refs are crap and then players make it impossible for them by constantly cheating. It should be called out and players that dive like that should receive lengthy bans. He won them 3 points that is not something to just ignore, it is the same as match fixing - he has manipulated the result. Whether that is Elliott going down in the box too easily or Jesus, until they start getting a proper punishment these players are going to continue to spoil the game with their pathetic dives.}

5.) 10 Oct 2022 10:17:53
Fully agree with you Ed, I Definately think these incidents should be reviewed and if deemed to be exaggeration to win a penalty, then resulting in a 2 game ban for said player and fine, hit them where it hurts. I agree there was the slightest of touches on him, but would not have made him drop to the deck holding his leg like he had just steamrolled, it’s embarrassing and cheating. We all remember the days when they said salah used to go down too easily, we’ll, this is just getting to a whole new level. Not as well to detract from our overall play, we can’t continue like this, we need to reset, let’s start off by getting the defensive side sorted, be compact, hard to get through and let the forwards get the odd goal to win a game, get some confidence, and then move forward from there. It’s obvious what we are trying isn’t working, so let’s get back to being solid and hard to beat, and go from there, as much as we need midfielders who will actually press and getting our existing ones to get some form, there is nothing we can do until January, if we try to get some one there at all. The injuries and form is out the window, ox, keita, Jones and Arthur on the treatment table, Henderson, Milner and Thiago over 30, and can’t play every game, Fabinho out of form and Elliot not really a pressing midfielder yet. It’s going to be a hard watch this season, here’s hoping we can come good next and this is just a blip.

6.) 10 Oct 2022 11:11:26
Ed25, I could NOT believe Arsenal got that penalty with the way Jesus went down like he took one from a sniper. Arsenal got not just one break with Jesus diving (Elliott should not have went down either as that's bad too), they got another break with the blatant handball by Gabriel that was NOT given either.

It will be interesting to see what would have happened had Salah went down the way Jesus did with the same "contact" OR whether a pen would have been waved away had Matip or VVD handled the ball the way Gabriel did.

THAT SAID, we were always going to lose that game with the enormous pressure we were under and the crap way we were playing. They got the win their play deserved, IMO.

{Ed025's Note - when you’re down on your luck oli it seems that everything goes against you. They say that things even themselves out over the season but when you are struggling it certainly doesn’t seem that way mate. Them 2 decisions seemed very harsh to me and it just highlights how bad the standard of refereeing is in the English game..

7.) 10 Oct 2022 12:17:30
Ed001, couldn't agree more. There should be a ban on diving. It is cheating. It was deliberate and out and out cheating, no other way to put it. There also needs to be a review of the match and VAR officials. That deliberate handball that was not called was so obvious Stevie Wonder saw it. There should be suspensions for blatant and obvious errors, only then will the officiating improve. There is no accountability for their blatant mistakes.

{Ed001's Note - the trouble is all the officials are useless (at best), so we would end up with no one to officiate!}

8.) 10 Oct 2022 13:57:24
Ed001, I wouldn't blame anyone for banning Jesus for the dive either.
But we have to deal with the rules as they are and players are getting penalties for contact in the penalty area. That's how it is.
And good luck in wanting players banned for diving after contact.
How do you tell a player that he was not in pain? Players could say they were taking evasive action. They could say they lost their balance etc etc etc.
Let's just play by the rules as they are, eh?

{Ed001's Note - you are just making excuses now. Ridiculous to excuse them on nonsense like evading. If they can evade it then there is no need for a pen. Just get on with it. It is meant to be a contact sport, they should stop whining and play it like it is a contact sport.}

9.) 10 Oct 2022 16:19:49
I'm not making excuses; I don't think it was a penalty; it shouldn't have been given but I can't see how you can ban a player for claiming to be fouled when there has been contact made. It'd be a legal minefield.
Jesus would just claim to have a sore calf and Thiago tapped him on it.
It's not the penalty I'm disputing but the banning of players when contact has been made.

{Ed001's Note - how is it a legal minefield? Utter nonsense. The laws of the game would decide, end of. It wouldn't matter what you are disputing as you are just making excuses. It doesn't matter if he has a sore calf, that's his problem. It is a contact sport, if you can't take the contact go and play some other sport with the other cowards. You can easily ban them, just like they can for any other offence they decide is against the laws of the game.}

10.) 10 Oct 2022 18:29:47
Im with Ed001 on this completely. It is blatant cheating and it will only stop when people are called out for it and banned. There is no consequence for it right now, so it carries on.

11.) 10 Oct 2022 23:22:16
I still think that if you are hurt enough for play to be stopped and the trainers to come on the field, then the player should come off. If you used all of your subs, tough. I'll bet that would put an end to the endless rolling around like he's been shot. It's just embarrassing and it needs to stop. No way that was a penalty.

12.) 11 Oct 2022 08:50:10
The referee gave the penalty. Was he cheating? It was checked by VAR, was that cheating?
Good luck if you want Jesus, the referee and the VAR all banned for cheating.
Back in the real world.

We didn't get any rub of the green. It was consistent with what Forest got. I was annoyed when Yates went down with a head injury and we had the ball and the drop was given to them. They didn't give it back.
The rugby challenge on Danns was a pen. And the extra few seconds was because they were time wasting.
You can see why they are annoyed but that game decisions were wrong but equal.
As always a LiVARpool narrative is created without context!
I'm just hoping you are creating banter Ed and not serious!

What do you think of Luke Chambers for next year. Seems to be doing very well albeit in a lower league.

denzil

{Ed001's Note - hard to say, he never looked ready when he did get the chance but it is still early for him. He is not lighting it up like Bradley, so I don't see a player ready to step in like he has, but that doesn't mean he won't grow into the team in time with some experience.}
