Evening Eds

How much do you think C.V. has had on the transfer market in general and in particular on LFC's plans and if it has which players who were being targeted before now they may not be able to ?

{Ed002's Note - I have provide lists of players Liverpool were interest in around Christmas but the main thing is that pretty much every club will make a trading loss this year due to reduced income this year - so it has hit clubs hard. The Liverpool owners have been hit harder than most.}

2.) 31 Aug 2020 21:54:00
Why ed002 due to the club or other business.

{Ed002's Note - Because they invest in sports which are in significant trouble.}

3.) 31 Aug 2020 22:35:06
How come Glazers are ok Ed? They more diversified or have they been hit badly too?

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United have far more income than most clubs but they have diverted money from loan repayments.}

Thank you.

Morning Eds,

Sorry if this appears a stupid question but on the subject of clubs being able to sign out of contract players or free agents once the transfer window has closed. Does a player have to be out of contract due to his contract having run down or what is there to stop a player buying himself out of his contract and therefore becoming a free agent? I take it I've missed something pretty obvious as otherwise only money would render the transfer window rules null and void.

{Ed002's Note - The players have to be out of contract at the start of the previous transfer window. And where would players get the money to pay any "buy out clauses" in their contracts?}

1.) 14 Aug 2019 09:16:11
Thanks Ed002 The first bit of yiur answer explains it. Re:the second bit, absolutely although in effect the club that would sign the out of contract player could in effect pay it. I believe in Spain for any transfer to proceed the buy-out clause needs to be paid by the player although in reality the buying club would 'refund the player once the money has been deposited with the Spanish FA to facilitate the transfer.

{Ed002's Note - So they would not be signing a free agent then!!}

2.) 14 Aug 2019 09:47:22
No I guess not! Thanks.

3.) 14 Aug 2019 11:05:34
I guess that's stemmed around Alderwiereld.

No LRG just wondering in general.

Morning Eds

Done to death is a reply I'm half expecting but anyway. assuming that keeping your best players gives you a better chance of success how do you view Coutihno going mid-season? I understand that an keeping an unhappy player even if one of your better players may be a detriment to the team but if Liverpool do not finish top 4 then a lot of fingers will be pointed at the owners and all those involved in the decision to sell. I understand players come and go and that a lot of thought will have gone into this but the impact of failing to secure that top 4 place - if it happens - would have massive potential ramifications not just to the owners' pockets but also to other players at the club who might then wish to move on. Your views?

{Ed001's Note - we have been better without him in the team this season, so I don't really see a problem letting him go when he is being disruptive. It is a team game and you have a better chance of success with a team playing for each other than you have with a bunch of individuals.}

1.) 09 Jan 2018 09:32:45
The Tottenham loss comes to mind. Never seen him play that badly in our shirt like in that game. I knew something was not right then.

2.) 09 Jan 2018 09:32:47
Do you really believe we have been better off without him, yes i've seen the stats, but you aren't always going to scrape results, in my opinion without him there we seriously lack the creativity and the chance of a goal out of nothing, I have a strong feeling if we don't replace him with the quality we need in our midfield, we can forget about top 4! In all seriousness do you think top 4 is a possibility without him or a quality replacement from now till the summer?

{Ed001's Note - but we also have a lot more workrate and defensive solidity without him. Swings and roundabouts.}

3.) 09 Jan 2018 09:41:12
Couldn't agree more kimos, losing out on a cl position would be massive hit financially. They reckon 40-50m, and with roughly only 105m up front in the coutinho deal that'll start to look very small indeed, if no one is brought in then we're only an injury to Salah or firmino away from disaster, Liverpool never fail to astound me,

4.) 09 Jan 2018 11:05:55
Disaster? A bit overly dramatic. We lost Mane for a while last season and suffered, but still qualified for the CL. And we're better equipped this season. Injuries are an opportunity for players to come in and stake a claim, catch the manager's eye.

Morning Eds

If the Coutinho deal goes through I'd like to see ter Stegen as part of the deal. Any chance of that?

{Ed001's Note - no.}

1.) 30 Aug 2017 09:19:30
So that's 4 GK then! Lol.

2.) 30 Aug 2017 09:23:24
Ter Stegen's no better than Karius. Appalling with the ball at his feet and the shots he parries away tend to land right at the feet of opposition players. Give karius a run of games and we will see a GK as good as or even better than Ter Stegen.

3.) 30 Aug 2017 10:16:13
Interesting comment there cos that habit of blocks dropping invitingly for attackers is why I wouldn't rate De Gea as highly as people do. He has a similar habit but a good defence in front of him. I've said it before but still don't see where a significantly better keeper is available the club needs to develop the 3 we have.

{Ed001's Note - and Pickford does it. For some reason modern keepers just parry the ball straight out, rather than putting it round the posts and out of play.}

4.) 30 Aug 2017 10:35:46
Very true Ed001, I wonder if the emphasis these days on reaction save training is part of the problem? where they have them moving around massively and making those kind of reaction saves that don't get the chance to attack the ball, is that potentially becoming a habit over the other types of work, the kind of save that would put the ball out to the sides at pace. Also noticed some have started doing this cross forearm thing when parrying shots which might give more strength but it doesn't really allow for any direction.

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't mind if the balls were getting heavier, so you needed the increased strength, but they are lighter and so easier to deflect. I do agree though, modern day coaching spends far too much time just teaching keepers to keep it out and not enough on how to keep it out. They should always be looking to tip round the post or over the bar if they can't catch it, but I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a keeper do that.}

29 Aug 2017 09:29:08
Eds. I would hate to see Can leave and in time could see him take over from Henderson especially with Keita coming next year. You've said that he wants more playing time or assurances of that before committing to a new contract. Is he any closer to that do you think?

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

1.) 29 Aug 2017 09:39:33
I would love him to remain and take the captains arm band. He is slowly getting into his rhythm. A midfield KR Keita and Can would be excellent!

The medals won in Germany were only because the club he left for didn’t want him.

I agree with that except that the people in Stockley Park would still need to add consistency to which incidences they decide to advise the ref to gave a look. While the ref absolutely should make any final decision Stockley Park would still have the power to decide what to refer.

Time has already told to a certain extent as they have the best defensive record over the last couple of years.
