Morning Reds and Eds. Anyone seen anything much of Etikite play?

kimos28

1.) 28 Jun 2025 09:06:19
I started watching Franfurt matches near the end of the season just to look at him.
The reason was that in terms of stats, style and physique he was the closest match to Isak.
As others have said on here before, he does take a lot of shots (some from speculative angles) and he should have scored more according to his XG stats.
What I do really like about him though is his movement is excellent, drifting mainly into the left channel, and his assists are impressive for a CF meaning he creates space and opportunity for his fellow forwards.
He is fairly quick, has wonderful dribbling skills, and while he's missing chances, he's also getting the chances.
The money Frankfurt are asking is excessive off the back of one good season, but if we can drive a deal towards what we receive for Diaz, I think Ekitike would really suit how we play under Slot.
Only my opinion though.

2.) 28 Jun 2025 09:17:27
Good you’ve been keeping an eye on him Redman! He’s always been rated and I guess it’s whether, apart from whether he’d suit us with the way he plays, he can take the step up and also handle the physical side of things in the PL.

3.) 28 Jun 2025 09:21:43
I wrote extensively on what I think of Ekitike after watching him a bunch with Eintracht this year. Others have also weighed in on what they think. Please do a search.

4.) 28 Jun 2025 09:36:53
So basically he’s Darwin, gets chances but can’t score?

5.) 28 Jun 2025 10:51:47
He's not even Darwin, hard pass for me, specially at the stupid unrealistic 100 million € they want, the better player went for 75 million € in January! Make that make sense.

6.) 28 Jun 2025 11:02:45
His movement and build up play is far superior to Darwins though.
I think he has the highest G/ A of any player 23 and under in the top 5 leagues.
There is a lack of proven strikers around atm, and the few who are proven have ridiculous price tags, or simply aren't available.

7.) 28 Jun 2025 11:04:57
Sounds just like Scouse John said : Gakpo v2.0
I like Gakpo, but we don’t need another.

8.) 28 Jun 2025 12:16:46
I appreciate it's only a stat test, and not a visual test, but go to a website called FBREF and look at Isak and Ekitike.
They are very similar in every category.
Even their G/ A per minute is very similar.

9.) 28 Jun 2025 12:20:15
I'm not sure what gakpo 2.0 is supposed to mean? Gakpo has been a great success for us, if we got a number 9 who is the equivalent in a different position then what exactly is the problem?

10.) 28 Jun 2025 12:28:42
Also I beg to differ on ekitike's movement being superior to Darwin's. They are simply completely different players. Darwin loves running in behind, ekitike loves coming short, getting the ball to feet and running at defenders. I think ekitike is ball dominant, whereas Darwin is not. I don't like the narrative that anybody is an upgrade on darwin, Darwin had 31 goal involvements in 54 games in klopp's last season, was among the most productive forwards in Europe as far as getting in goalscoring positions and vastly underperformed his xg. He is not the right player for us anymore but he also isn't a static donkey.

11.) 28 Jun 2025 13:03:51
It’s just not in the dna of modern Liverpool to play with a target man striker. All our best football has been with more of a technical player: Firmino, mane in 21/ 22 when Diaz came in, sturridge and Suarez. The one they all have in common is they are good in the ball. Not the biggest or strongest, some not even the fastest, but all have a good first touch and are very comfortable on the ball. If you’re playing inside forwards who get goals you want to make sure they’re involved.

12.) 28 Jun 2025 13:38:15
Seen him play against spurs. He was ok. The is definitely potential there but he has a ways to go. One of those that could be something special but could equally turn out average. It would be a risk to pay anywhere even close to the asking price mooted for him.

At the end of the day, if we end up getting him, I can't say for sure how it would go.

The thing I like most about him is that he does a bit of everything play make, come short, run in behind, headers. This is the style of striker I would want.

He really is a tough one to call.

13.) 28 Jun 2025 13:46:12
I don't remember anyone saying he was a static donkey.
Football is all about preference, and my preference is for the way Ekitike plays rather than Darwin.

14.) 28 Jun 2025 14:10:50
Problem is when Darwin runs in behind he’s usually about at least 10 metres offside.

15.) 28 Jun 2025 15:16:02
You are of course entitled to your preference, but that doesn't mean that darwin's movement is worse, seen from a different perspective it is in fact better, but ultimately it is just different. I prefer a forward like Darwin who attacks space and constantly wants to get in behind (if he could be more clinical), but slot might want somebody who is more versatile and can excel in one on one situations or attack defenders with the ball at their feet.

16.) 28 Jun 2025 15:56:31
Patrick - I like Gakpo, but we have a Gakpo, we have a forward with the same characteristics.
Spending a lot of money on a player who offers more of the same seems foolish, just use Gakpo more.

17.) 28 Jun 2025 16:15:31
I personally don't find him to be very similar to gakpo, not sure if we're watching the same player.

18.) 28 Jun 2025 17:36:43
Klopp dropped Nunez towards the end of his last season.
Oh, he can run and run around a lot but his football intelligence was woeful.

26 Jun 2025 15:49:50
Much as i like Konate despite his flaws, if the latest stuff going around is true then he needs to be sold. I get that players want to leave and I get that contracts work both ways. But taking the p. is out of order.

kimos28

1.) 26 Jun 2025 15:53:19
It needs to be dealt with one way or another. I see us selling him this summer.

2.) 26 Jun 2025 15:55:21
It's all well and good saying he should be sold but if he wants to go to Real Madrid they will just tell him to wait a year. Who else could buy him? PSG? They are trying to buy Zabarnyi from Bournemouth.

3.) 26 Jun 2025 16:03:16
I know what Madrid will do Thunderbird. We all do. It needs sorting either way. It can’t be good having that vibe around the club.

4.) 26 Jun 2025 16:11:41
Easy tell him he either signs and plays or gets sold. If he wants to run his contract down he can do that with the reserves. Can’t let another player do a Trent.

5.) 26 Jun 2025 16:21:07
Ignore the Real journos.

I still expect Ibou to pen a new deal at this moment. Even with Guehi potentially coming in.

6.) 26 Jun 2025 16:22:28
If Konate has made it clear that he will NOT be signing a new deal then he should be told to have his agent find him a new club this summer, be it RM or whoever.

However with that being said, nobody at the club can make him leave and the so called "let him rot in the reserves" won't fly as that is just futile, IMO.

7.) 26 Jun 2025 16:39:25
Are fans really still this naive in 2025? No one can force a player to sign a contract or threaten to sell them. There is no such thing.

Konate will either sign a new contract that he and the club are happy about or he will leave on a free next summer. There's no selling him against his will.

And Slot refused to bench anyone due to their contract situation this past season. There's no way he's going to cut off his nose to spite his face because fans are childish.

8.) 26 Jun 2025 16:42:47
Well said, Oli. Anybody thinking we're going to put him in the reserves are speaking nonsense, it's never going to happen - nor should it.

9.) 26 Jun 2025 17:06:57
Looking at the football mercato article it's just your typical clickbait stuff that other clickbait sites have taken the odd phrase from. I wouldn't read too much into it. Only the club and and himself knows what's going on and will no doubt work it all out accordingly.

10.) 26 Jun 2025 17:44:07
We don't need to put him in the reserves, buy Guehi which is looking more likely and play him every pre-season match to build that relationship as quickly as possible with VVD and then Konate can be phased to the bench. That might concentrate his mind on looking for a move this summer with a World Cup coming up. We just need to. hope Guehi or whomever our new CB is can be a starter.

11.) 26 Jun 2025 17:56:34
The club still has power. Konate may refuse to leave, but if he does that he can go to the reserves and not play in the season before a world cup year. He won't want that so it's about time we play hardball.
If a player wants to leave, they should leave immediately.

12.) 26 Jun 2025 18:01:04
Guehi isn’t a starter and isn’t good enough to be a starter, the drop off in quality from Konate to him is huge, Guehi doesn’t win the ball in the air as much as Konate and isn’t as strong on the ground either. Guehi would be a useful squad player but nothing more than that. Personally don’t think Madrid are in for him as they’ll have other targets. It’s just a matter of finding a median point with his demands.

13.) 26 Jun 2025 18:18:14
If these stories are true Guehi makes even more sense. You can't force a player to sign or to be sold but you sure don't have to have him in your 1st 11 every week when he's going to stroll out the door for free next summer. Guehi is good enough to partner Virg so ibou can be benched. What happened last season where we'd a 1st 11 player strolling around with his head in the clouds should never happen again, certainly not when we are where we are as a club at the moment. don't want to sign on with the champions? fine that's your perogative but get used to the bench son.

21 Jun 2025 16:31:17
Thoughts on rotation options for Grav anyone? I like Endo and he can do a job to a certain extent but if Grav’s out for a prolonged period, then is there enough in the squad to cover or do we buy someone? Anyone to fill his boots would have to be good enough to play all the time and they likely wouldn’t if Grav is playing. So, buy and reduce budget for the other positions or go with what we’ve got?

kimos28

1.) 21 Jun 2025 16:52:47
Szoboszlai? Wirtz will be playing the 10 now and Marco Rossi, Hungary manager, has been quoted saying Dom has all the attributes to play a Pirlo-type role as a 6. I think Dom, Macca, Jones and Grav will all rotate for the 2 deeper midfield positions with Wirtz playing pretty much every game unless he needs resting.

Endo was used a lot at RB, CB and DM off the bench last season and if he stays I expect more of the same. Seems unlikely he’ll start many games even if there are injuries.

2.) 21 Jun 2025 16:56:09
Mac Allister will rotate with Gravenberch. Wirtz will play as the 10 and the two behind him will rotate between Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.

3.) 21 Jun 2025 17:01:08
I still reckon we move for Wharton/ Stiller later in the window.

4.) 21 Jun 2025 17:09:35
I think with the addition of Wirtz you might see Szoboszlai and Mcallister dropping in when needed. I was hopeful for Bajetic, we will have to see how he does now that he's had surgery. With jones and Endo also in the squad I wouldn't bet on any signings midfield wise.

5.) 21 Jun 2025 17:36:50
Endo was used in those positions last season but I wouldn’t say he was used a lot.

6.) 21 Jun 2025 17:37:18
Mac facing our goal always makes me a bit nervous as the seems to be slow to turn and can lose the ball. But, yeah, using all of them rotating the deeper midfield positions may be the way to go.

7.) 21 Jun 2025 18:07:40
Yeah I agree with the replies, wirtz will play 90% of the games (fitness dependant obviously) and our attack will be built around him as a 10.
Grav, Jones, mac, szobo to play the other 2 midfield positions. Endo to close out games if need be.
I think slot will rotate a bit more this season as he will be more aware of the physical demands of the prem league and also has money in the bank from winning the prem league, I think that gives him more scope this season than last season when he came in as almost an unknown.

8.) 21 Jun 2025 18:49:34
I really don't like the idea of Szoboszlai as a six.
He's not strong enough defensively, doesn't have the passing range and he is not press resistant. He is nothing like Pirlo.
It's no secret that I don't rate him but I'd be happy for him to prove me wrong.

9.) 21 Jun 2025 19:11:48
You don't rate Dom Rigsby? Well, it's all about opinion but that one is difficult for me to agree with cos when he's not in the team, it shows ?.

10.) 21 Jun 2025 21:20:56
Ugbes, I don't rate him as highly as most on here do, mate. He's obviously a decent player but I see him as more of an attacking player than as a midfielder. He's not a six, for me.
As you say, it's differing opinions but I don't see what a lot of you do. The same could be said of Firmino.
It's probably my untrained eye!

11.) 22 Jun 2025 06:19:49
I think Grav, Dom, Macca and Jones can play every position across the midfield.

Are they all excellent in every position? No but they can play.

I'm not sure we sign anyone else.

Hi Eds and Reds. I’m travelling with my son to Liverpool on Sunday. Any suggestions as to where to watch the game on Sunday and also the parade on Monday? I’m guessing the pubs will be heaving and especially around Anfield.

kimos28

1.) 21 May 2025 16:35:23
Best place to watch the game. I'd say Anfield mate :-)

2.) 21 May 2025 16:59:14
Find a tree, roof, or lamp post and climb mate!, they are expecting one million + for the parade! It is a bank holiday Monday! Thins will be crowded Sunday with so many in town for the parade. I would try a larger beer garden to watch the match. There is Taggy's on Anfield Road (large screen), Hope and Anchor, and Kazimier Garden. Enjoy YNWA.

3.) 21 May 2025 17:37:09
Thanks KC.

4.) 21 May 2025 17:40:24
The city center will be booming enough pubs and bars down there the atmosphere will be brilliant ( hopefully) as for the parade I’d get down to the strand get there early get a good breakfast down you it’s a long day it will be a party atmosphere anyway try and find a bus stop get your lad up on it and enjoy.

5.) 21 May 2025 18:16:23
Thanks L8.

6.) 21 May 2025 19:28:52
@kimos28 a few more options for you as well: The Windsor, The Sandon, Hotel Anfield. Enjoy mate and pace yourself : )

7.) 21 May 2025 19:46:16
Cheers L8. Can’t wair.

I’d keep Diaz unless a crazy offer comes in which would enable us to buy an upgrade. The players we have bought so far are an improvement on what we have and a necessity for players who have left and also as part of the evolution of the squad. He proved an invaluable member of the team last year and as such there is no real need to sell him and make too many changes to the squad.
