I read that Son is having bad contract negotiations with Spurs. Would love to have him at Anfield should Mo or Mane move on. Any chance Ed’s?

longlivetheking

{Ed002's Note - None.}

1.) 01 Apr 2021 15:40:06
Think we need to start replenishing with younger players, Sonny is about the same age as the others.

{Ed077's Note - I agree

2.) 01 Apr 2021 15:50:12
I'd be looking to sign players below 25 years of age this summer unless an older player is available on a free (Depay) or a bargain (Sabitzer) .
Signing Son does not serve the purpose of freshening up our squad with younger talent from a long term perspective, not to mention Daniel Levy will take us to the cleaners in terms of Son's transfer fee.

3.) 02 Apr 2021 13:16:07
For the money that’d be needed for son I’d rather us go for sancho.

4.) 02 Apr 2021 15:55:36
Do you think sancho is a top player, Jordz? Son is far better IMO. Sancho reminds me of Huddson Odi, not good enough at the top level. Rather have Pulisic is that we’re at option.

5.) 02 Apr 2021 19:37:18
I think under klopp markp he would go another leve. Like pulisic but he does seem to be out a bit. But be happy with either :D.

6.) 02 Apr 2021 19:47:54
Jordz - unfortunately that argument works for most players, especially most offensive minded players.

Hi Eds. Does Klopp think that Joe Gomes is not going to make it into a top class talent by looking at other centre backs for a first team slot or is it more that he just needs to always have 3 first team standard CBs available?

Thanks for all your work over this brilliant fever dream of a season.

longlivetheking

{Ed002's Note - Before the pandemic there was no doubt that the club were looking to a high-end player to partner van Dijk as a starter. The whole financial scenario has changed and right now Liverpool don't have the funds to do that.they have youngers who can step up to fill some of the holes in the squad but will still likely add one or two players.}

1.) 25 Jul 2020 11:50:16
Just listened to some interviews with a few Anfield legends. Talking about adding to the squad and Xavi Alonso believes Klopp May look to play 3 centre backs in certain games which could explain the desire for a quality addition. Three at the back might be a way of unlocking some defences?

2.) 25 Jul 2020 12:30:31
I'm not sure 3 at the back would be any more attacking than our normal formation, with how attacking our full backs are and how fabinho drops back at times. Think its more likely that Gomez has maybe played half the games that van dijk has played over the last few seasons for one reason or another, and that gomez can cover all defensive positions so is likely to pick up plenty of game time anyway. Not saying I think it's a good idea, as I like gomez beside virg, but that's a more rational reasoning I reckon.

3.) 26 Jul 2020 11:57:02
Who’s Xavi Alonso?

4.) 26 Jul 2020 15:28:17
He used to play for Real Mabarcelona, BigVirg.

Any chance in France of Ndombele to replace Gini?

longlivetheking

{Ed0666's Note - would you wanna deal with Daniel Levy?

1.) 10 Aug 2021 22:17:54
We really don't need to replace Gini.

2.) 10 Aug 2021 22:17:54
We really don't need to replace Gini.

3.) 10 Aug 2021 23:10:46
Maximosa… don’t talk rubbish. We finished third last year not first.

4.) 10 Aug 2021 23:28:35
Well lad's if we did buy a Gini replacement wouldn't that be some kick in the gonads for Curtis, Clarkson, Elliott etc.

5.) 11 Aug 2021 00:09:44
He needs replacing, we have a LOT of injury prone centre midfielders!

6.) 11 Aug 2021 01:05:46
You know what’s a slap in the face to those lads Barry? Seeing players who’ve done nothing for three years continue to be given chances after chance. Not replacing a stalwart who was consistent.

7.) 11 Aug 2021 04:11:31
You know what’s a slap in the face to those lads Barry? Those players coming in and making a couple of mistakes and the ‘supporters’ abusing them like Neco and Rhys Williams last season.

8.) 11 Aug 2021 06:44:29
If you want a seat at the table, you have to prove you are worthy and deserving of it. Doesn't matter if you're 18 and looking for promotion, or 30 and looking for a new contract. No free lunches for anyone. Skill and performance should dictate who plays and who doesn't. If it's felt as a kick in the gonads then maybe they need to be strengthened?

9.) 11 Aug 2021 06:23:52
Fabinho
Henderson
Milner
Thiago
Keita
Ox
Curtis
Clarkson
Shaqiri
Woodburn

Yeah, pretty short in midfield to be fair.

10.) 11 Aug 2021 07:02:36
Leave it out Victor, Milners not getting any younger and is trying his best.

11.) 11 Aug 2021 07:11:46
In the centre we have Hendo, Fabs, Thiago, Jones, Keita, Milner, Ox and Potentially Elliot. 8 players vying for 3 starting spots. Unless we offload any off these I don’t see any purpose in getting a new midfielder. Much rather we look at a versatile forward, preferably a future Salah or Bobby replacement. I see Jota as Mane’s eventual successor.

12.) 11 Aug 2021 07:23:00
I haven't heard a single argument qualifying we need sign anybody else that can't be answered with we lost our defence last season and played our midfielders there instead, I'm open to a different point of view but Ndombele? Really? Like really really?

13.) 11 Aug 2021 09:20:43
My worry is Hendo, Fab and Thiago missed 49 league games between them last season through injuries. Wiji played in all 38.
Appreciate it was last season and this one could be totally different but that is a lot of games to fill in especially as 2 of the squad players who would likely fill them spaces miss quite a few games a season through injury also. Between Ox and Naby they only featured in 23 league games last season with only 9 of them being starts.
I don’t even know what the likelihood is more than 1 or even all of them being injured at the same time but last season I would have said there would be no chance of our 3 centre half’s all being out for the season at the same time give or take.
For me the bottom line is the midfielders we have in the squad are good enough, there’s no denying that. It’s just whether enough of them are durable enough to play such an intense season week in week out.
This is why Klopp is payed the big bucks and next season we might remain injury free in there and have the rub of the green, we might lose a couple as you do every season to niggles at different times or worst case we could have last seasons issue in the midfield this time.
One thing that hasn’t been addressed is if chooses to use the four forwards in a formation change this meaning we only need 2 midfielders rather than the 4 so they can have their game time managed more.
That’s the beauty of football though everyone has an opinion and it’s always great to read ones that differ without getting offended and taking it personally.

14.) 11 Aug 2021 10:53:02
I want someone new and I want them now!,

I don’t know who I want but they’d better be really, really, really very expensive and a name that we all recognise or they will just be rubbish.

I don’t know why I want them or care what they bring to the team but Citeh have got one, United have got ne, Chelsea are getting one and it’s just not right that we haven’t got one.

What are the management doing? Don’t they know that if we don’t spend loads we will just be rubbish.

{Ed025's Note - well said mate.. :)

15.) 11 Aug 2021 19:42:48
WDW, I guess Konate does not count as a signing anymore to some of these people.

04 Jun 2021 13:19:11
Dear Eds. Are Liverpool overpricing the fringe players again as far as you know? It’s really a buyers market out there and demand for peripheral players who need to drop down the PL table is going to be lacking. For players like Origi and Shaquiri we can’t be looking for much of a fee, only Keita might bring in a few pounds based on his fast fading reputation in Germany. Thanks v much for your work.

longlivetheking

{Ed002's Note - It is early yet.}

1.) 04 Jun 2021 14:08:48
I would suspect that most of the transfer ins and outs will happen after the Euros/ Copa America. July should be a lot busier than June, so for the next 4 weeks, it'll just be speculation and the tabloids recycling the same old rumours.

2.) 04 Jun 2021 22:40:48
I love the we over price our players but the same fans are the first to criticise if we don't meet the valuation of another club for their players we're low balling them. The club has a value on their asset and its their right to hold out for that valuation.

31 Aug 2017 09:49:53
I hate this new flood of money due to BT and others pushing up the cost of the TV rights. It's a bubble which will soon burst. Sky will have to raise the cost of their product and soon it will get to a level where people say no thanks and will instead watch a stream for free.

BT should not be bidding for football rights they should be working on fixing my landline which breaks down pretty much every month.

That's my spiel.

1.) 31 Aug 2017 09:55:33
😂 great post.

2.) 31 Aug 2017 10:15:26
They're trying to get rid of illegal streaming so I wouldn't assume you'll be able to watch free streaming for much longer.

3.) 31 Aug 2017 10:18:54
Where there's a will, there's a way Big Al. Already to expensive for me.

4.) 31 Aug 2017 11:04:13
Impossible to stop streaming. all you need is a good vpn and stream from outside uk. they can't affect another countries laws can they.

5.) 31 Aug 2017 12:20:13
@redphil
You can pressure a country into bending it's laws. Look at what happened to "The Pirate Bay" in Sweden.

I expect Salah will join PSG when Mbabbe leaves for Real Madrid. it would be a coup for PSG’s Qatari owners to have the best Muslim player in the world and currently one, if not the best overall, player in the world in their team. Would be very sad to lose him, wonderful player and a fantastic human being, but if he chooses to go, then best of luck to him.

longlivetheking

{Ed002's Note - PSG have other specific targets.}

I wish the main European leagues would have an agreement to cap agent’s fees. They are true parasites. Cap them at say a maximum of 2m. Really wouldn’t be that difficult especially as the elite clubs are the ones which matter to these super agents.

Very few teams could afford the fee for one of the front three in any normal times, with corona decimating finances I doubt any bids will come for them. PSG perhaps but Real and Barce are broke and the club wouldn’t sell to a domestic rival. Bayern Munich tend to hoover up the best of the bundesliga and Juve can’t match the wages of the premier league.

longlivetheking

{Ed077's Note - Juventus can easily match the wages in the PL. Maybe you should look up tax rates in the UK and Italy for starters.

Many thanks for the breakdown Ed.

I think the role of agents and at times their ridiculous fees and behaviour will be highlighted this year by the media.

The clubs need to join together to cap agents and advisors fees.

Another scandal is how badly footballers are advised on their finances. I know of big name footballers being pushed into investing into completely unsuitable financial products at the behest of sub standard and at times crooked financial advisors. The young lads need looking after because careers in the game are rarely long.

All the best.

longlivetheking

{Ed002's Note - The authorities have already taken action to limit the payments to registered agents but some players have other representatives yadda, yadda, yadda. Mino will get something in the order of €50M by the time Paul Pogba completes his MU contract - and yes you are absolutely correct in that it is indeed pretty obscene. Most clubs, certainly in England, are pretty good at working with the players to ensure that they do not get involved in any dumb deals although it is fair to say there is a clear disparity between the best and worst in this case, but generally England is OK on that front.

And to be fair, the authorities are constantly working to clean up the game with respect to payments for image rights, the use of Trusts (there was a lengthy resolution in England but it is cleared now), unusual payment schemes etc.. There have been instances in the past where players have been paid via offshore trusts, limited companies for services rendered to the club and in tax-exempt oil paintings and cars. These were referred to as “loopholes” and they have pretty much all gone by the board now, although I know of one now ex-EPL player who was until recently being paid via his residency of Monaco. The clubs all realise that there is a need to resolve these issues and to settle because the consequences of litigation are potentially very harsh.}

@KopEnd1 The transfer team at Liverpool have done an amazing job over the last 5 plus years. Targets carefully identified and plumped for when ducks can be aligned. Panic buying is not healthy for the club finances or for the immediate form of the squad. Most players need bedding in, you and other fans would probably get on their backs if they had one poor game post arrival.

The owners make investment in the squad
when the right players are available and identified. Dias and Numez and huge contract for Salah. Some fans want us to panic buy like we were laughing at United for in the last few years. Do the fans want rabiot etc?

Hendo was the only player to get a grip after that opening ten minutes and bring composure to the team after that headless chicken period of play where city scored one and Ali made a mega save from Sterling. Hendo showed exactly why he should be on the pitch.
