Thoughts on Denis Cheryshev's performance in the WC considering he was amidst our talks not a long while back?

minimalhype

1.) 10 Jul 2018 13:34:01
Last links I heard were pre-Klopp!

2.) 10 Jul 2018 13:35:44
One good game in five player at best. Wouldn’t be a starter and he has a stupid buy out clause. Never seen anything in him to make me think he’s anything other than a very ordinary one paced winger.

3.) 10 Jul 2018 14:03:31
Some lovely goals but he doesn't do it week in week out in Spain, so is there any way he could do it on a cold wet night in, uhm, Huddersfield?

4.) 10 Jul 2018 15:17:35
Is he the Russian lw? He was brilliant in wc, worth a shot as long as we threaten him with siberia if he doesn't perform

Can I just say. The whole Russian team were BRILLIANT! They brought this world cup alive. And against all the odds made it to the last 8.unbelievable. kept a buzz around Russia which has made the whole tournament better.

While Ronaldo, Messi and iniesta were crying on a beach Russia were battling Croatia right to the whistle. I actually cheered when they equalised to 2 2

Well done Russia, hold you heads up and feel proud, you done your country proud.

5.) 10 Jul 2018 17:29:36
I think the real question here should be: If you did not care about Cheryshev nor how he was doing b4 the WC, why would you care about him now cos clearly, a good WC is NO way to judge a player?

6.) 10 Jul 2018 17:39:10
El Hadj Diof.

This is why we don't buy players based on WC performances.

That is all.

7.) 10 Jul 2018 19:07:31
Diouf was signed before the World Cup, which he was average at anyway.

8.) 10 Jul 2018 20:24:46
Y'all are missing the point of my topic here I suppose. It had nothing to do with us trying to buy him. Rather, just to rate his WC performance and his impact on the Russian team which no one expected to reach so far. The Liverpool link was mentioned just to pull that bit from back of the head.

Hello Eds and Reds,
Hypothetically, which player would you like to sign for free now if you were LFC's manager?

minimalhype

{Ed0333's Note - Did no one ever tell you there’s nothing free in this world mate?

1.) 21 Nov 2017 19:58:18
Air 😬.

2.) 21 Nov 2017 20:25:46
if Liverpool win the champions league then Coutinio stays.

There is talk of Ozil and I wo2uld be well happy with that.

3.) 21 Nov 2017 20:31:29
nolito looks a good player and banega but Liverpool have took Seville back to school. What a performance.

Moreno = solid against his old team, not like the uefa cup final.

Lovre n and klavan have been pretty solid and karius's save should get him in the no1 shirt. much better keeper than migs. I think we have a great little keeper, no need to look elsewhere.

{Ed0333's Note - can’t argue with any of that

4.) 21 Nov 2017 20:39:40
Klavan should be our permanent keeper. great performance so far. he looks relaxed too.

Gomes, Lovren, Klavan and Moreno have been awesome.

Hendo has organised that midfielf to perfection. Wjinaldum and Couts have been working their socks off.

Our attack needs no introduction, Mane, Firmino and Salah must scare the s**t out of defences, especially defences that lack speed.

Liverpool have [played the perfect away game. Lovren looks great, since he won player of the month he has been brilliant. he is repaying our faith in him. If you voted then I believe you have really helped LFC

1 goal in the last five games, m how is our defence still getting slagged off? its just easy to slate Moreno or lovren but theyt have been fantastic this month.

5.) 21 Nov 2017 20:47:47
Karius has to be first choice now. Looks relaxed and confident and the defenders clearly have more faith in him than Migs. Klopp needs to be decisive and show Migs the door.
LOvren doing very well too. Kudos to him for stepping up against all odds.

6.) 21 Nov 2017 20:48:33
Cheers Ed033, Seville are a clever team. with no pace they have to be clever but Liverpool have been strong in their defenceive headers and I have noticed our tactics are different to how we normally defend. It reminds me of Hypia and Henchoz, just hoofing the ball away, for Owen to get on the end of. I like that. if the ball is in the opposition half then they can't score. Normally we try to get it down and play out but the boys are taking no chances. What a CB we have in Gomes, that lad is going to be massive. Trust.

Watching football must be bad for my blood pressure, but being 3 0 up let's me relax a little.

{Ed0333's Note - the caveat is if Sevilla didn’t spurn their chances it could be a different situation. I won’t pour kudos over the defense until they perform on a consistent basis. But props to the players and the coaching staff they have identified a problem and worked hard on rectifying some of the mistakes.

7.) 21 Nov 2017 21:17:24
This is worrying but io think we will weather the storm. They still need three goals to win the game. if we draw we are still top of the lerague.

8.) 21 Nov 2017 20:51:19
Klavan looks better than Matip atm. I tghink maybe that matip was the problem at the back, so lax in his defending, so slow and slap dash.

9.) 21 Nov 2017 20:53:40
Toattaly agree.

10.) 21 Nov 2017 21:47:01
Sevilla should have two in the first half courtesy of our defence. I said on here today we would see how the defence shapes up tonight.

There’s the answer.

11.) 21 Nov 2017 21:56:50
Moreno looks solid? I must have missed that.

12.) 21 Nov 2017 22:40:58
This is a classic case of premature congratulation. 😄

Moreno really mugged the OP off in the second half.

Reds and Eds, I hesitate to talk about prices usually but who is the club record now: Carroll or Salah? (I have read that possibly its still Carroll by a whisker)

minimalhype

1.) 22 Jun 2017 21:59:10
Sky stated £30m rising to £34.3m so Carroll still - not saying those figures are correct though.

2.) 23 Jun 2017 03:36:27
Sky says it's mane after add on which can reach 36mil.

3.) 23 Jun 2017 06:16:01
I may be utterly wrong here but I'm sure firmino is close to or even is our record signing but it never gets mentioned. Ed2 am I wrong?

{Ed002's Note - The fee lodged on the TMS was €41M with potential add ons totally nearly €9M.}

4.) 23 Jun 2017 06:39:11
Cheers ed.

I will agree with Targett at this moment ed025, but I feel if Liverpool had not secured Mane and VVD, another top 6 club would have definitely signed them and Southampton would still have been in the same state.

In that case, it would have not only been damaging for Saints but also for us mate.

minimalhype

{Ed025's Note - im sure if everton had signed them 2 then i would certainly not be complaining MH, it must be terribly hard to stomach for the saints fans though mate..

@epicpotato, perhaps you might have to reconsider your thoughts if Brewster moved onto somewhere like Dortmund and became the next sensation. Distant grass do appear greener.

Hey ed001, interesting article. Makes me wonder whether there were any footballers from non test playing nations playing in england to have taken a keen interest in cricket?

minimalhype

{Ed001's Note - I have absolutely no idea. I don't even know what a non test playing nation is sorry! I know nothing about cricket.}

I don't mind the white much but it reminds me about the dreadful 3-1 against utd.

Hi Ed001.
Since we are talking about covers and I remember you saying there isn't really a firmino alternative elsewhere, have we made attempts to develop someone else towards being a cover for firmino?
Someone like Gini or some youngster from the academy perhaps?

minimalhype

{Ed001's Note - Brewster, Origi and slightly altering things to use Salah or Mane up top is the alternative.}

Sadio's dominance playing for Saints against us, that saw them win a game in which we previously held a 2 goal lead showed the massive potential in him.
The next transfer window, all I wished for was him and Gini (whose 4 goals in a match for Newcastle was phenomenal) to sign for us.

What were the probabilities of both happening?
