All right, this seems to the hot topic this week, so let's discuss ownerships.

In the current environment, who are the best owners currently in football? Assuming we will stick to Europe for convenience sake.

pravLFC

{Ed014's Note - City’s

1.) 08 Oct 2021 20:38:22
Ed014, can I ask you for the criteria you've used for your selection?

{Ed014's Note - simply for what they’ve done for the club and it’s surrounding area. Their determination to be successful and that they have a plan to achieve that.

I really don’t actually want my owner to carry the baggage that they do, so I want what they bring but not who they are and what they’ve done outside of football.

2.) 08 Oct 2021 20:52:13
Your a good egg ed014 but in this day and age you probably can’t have both. Mediocrity or success and very dubious owners.

{Ed014's Note - I know mate and I’d happily forfeit the dubious owner and stick with mediocrity.

3.) 08 Oct 2021 21:42:41
Your a better man than me mate.

4.) 08 Oct 2021 21:47:45
Sorry but Leicester's owners all day long are the best.

5.) 08 Oct 2021 22:27:55
Abramovich has done a lot for the UK economy. Not just Chelsea. City owners have been excellent as well. Everything from their state of the art training facilities and the way they have build the club up as well.

6.) 08 Oct 2021 22:28:46
I think it's individual opinion, as you can see today moral high ground activist are out in force, where if you just turn the site and Check UTD site their already thinking how can they get Newcastle money 😂😂.

7.) 09 Oct 2021 07:33:15
Thanks for the reply Ed014. You answered why I asked the question. Calling it "dubious" is really mild but I guess politically correct. Whether it is Abu Dhabi (City's owners) or Dubai (they're first cousins of Abu Dhabi) or Qatar or Saudi Arabia, it's a repetitive pattern of lack of concern for human rights or human dignity. Regularly shovelled under the carpet due to the power of the almighty $$$. What point do you have to reach until you say, "okay, that's enough no more"?

8.) 09 Oct 2021 09:03:31
Fsg aren’t bad owners they are good owners I get frustrated with no signings like all but they’ve brought us back from the brink top call Coach top facilities
Building new stands (place was In bits)
Let’s not forget ended 30 years of pain!

9.) 09 Oct 2021 14:15:32
Fsg, 'm not just mentioning fsg because it's us but because they have worked wonders for our club. They put money in when money needed to be put in. They are doing all sorts to the stadium. How can they be knocked? That's just the simple things they've done for us. Yes they've made mistakes, mistakes I'm sure they've learnt from but they do listen to the fans and that goes a long way in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong I'm not going to sit here and say I wouldn't swap them for any other owner but I'm happy with who we have for the time being, we've had bad, very bad owners in the past. These lot are doing what they can and that is enough for me.

10.) 09 Oct 2021 15:30:33
Hans-Joachim Watzke of Dortmund.

11.) 11 Oct 2021 21:31:13
With you as well, Salah. FSG are not perfect and they made a lot of bone head mistakes and can be very tone deaf at times. But they have invested a tonne into the club and have brought our club into the modern era of football in terms of facilities, infrastructure, installations and stadium modernisation.

Can more be done? Of course but most of all, they brought us success in the end after many close calls. The City, Chelsea and Newcastle owners? No comment.

Thoughts on the new kit?

pravLFC

1.) 20 May 2021 11:55:01
in a word, awful.

Having admittedly not watched enough of thiago to form an opinion, wanted to ask the group here if there is any similarities in the way Thiago plays to Alonso.

pravLFC

1.) 15 Aug 2020 20:17:59
No Alonso was better.

2.) 15 Aug 2020 21:01:56
Sorry Acered but Alonso was not better. He had great potential when he signed but had achieved very little at that stage. His best year of football with us was his last before leaving. Thiago is a serial winner and he imposes himself in games in a way alonso often failed to do!

3.) 15 Aug 2020 21:06:02
You'd think so prav, the way people are going on about him. The few times I've watched bayern I've not thought "he stands out" I've watched him a hell of a lot more, but I think coutinio is the better player, easily.

For us who don't know much about thiago, if you had to out him next to a Liverpool player of the last? 25 years, who would it be?

4.) 15 Aug 2020 21:16:02
Xabi Alonso, League winner 4 times, CL winner twice (how many does Thiago have? ), World cup winner, Twice European Championship winner and countless other trophies. Yeah you're right Alonso isn't a serial winner like Thiago.
Xabi only done it on the biggest of stages. Class player 😉.

5.) 15 Aug 2020 22:03:18
Yet the waiter wanted to sell Alonso and replace him with Gareth Barry.

6.) 15 Aug 2020 22:04:37
I'd sooner take Gareth Barry over the pair of them.

7.) 15 Aug 2020 22:05:40
Thiago Alcantara is not as good Xabi Alonso. Stop kidding around.

8.) 15 Aug 2020 22:24:56
@irishrover, I was comparing thiago to xabi alonso at the point in time he signed for liverpool. He won major honours at bayern and Madrid but had a far lesser medal haul at 29 than thiago. When he signed for us, alonso was little more than potential!

9.) 15 Aug 2020 22:42:34
I don’t get the talk about alonso either. If I remember rightly he spent most of the 07/ 08 season on the bench which is why we tried to sign Barry to replace him.
Yes he was class in 08/ 09 but nothing to warrant to rave reviews he gets from some. The whole team stepped up in the second half of that season.
He went on to do great things after he left us yes but why do I care about that?
If Thiago arrives I’ll support him and hope he can eclipse anything Alonso did for us and I think he will.
Not bashing Alonso he was a good player but his best years by far were after he left us.

10.) 15 Aug 2020 23:28:40
To be fair Becker his best years were after he left us because he joined better teams.

11.) 15 Aug 2020 23:32:51
All raving about alonso like he was the business when he started with us he was dirt for ages lead legs go and watch his games he was brutal he grew into it and was great to see but calm down with the alonso noise.

12.) 16 Aug 2020 04:42:32
Yeah, looks like the discussion sort of veered away from the original question.

My question was not about who was better, but rather about similarities in the style of play.

13.) 16 Aug 2020 05:04:45
I don’t understand how a simple question asking if Thiago has any similarities with Alonso becomes an excuse to trash both players, it’s weird. Alonso was a very good player, Thiago is a very good player. Why do you feel the need to trash one player in order to build the other one up?

14.) 16 Aug 2020 08:18:57
Thiago is a very good player and Klopp is a huge fan of his. Are they similar, I don't think so.

13 Jan 2020 13:26:47
It seems to have become a trend this season after every game to say Liverpool were not at their best but scraped through/ found a way to win.

This got me thinking, how many games this season have we actually met expectations and played scintillating football?

pravLFC

1.) 13 Jan 2020 13:48:06
we exceeded expectations against Leicester on boxing day and at least met them against city. nothing really jumps out other than that. beat Burnley away without much fuss too. we just keep picking up points. unbelievable what we are doing.

2.) 13 Jan 2020 13:55:42
Leicester away springs to mind. Arsenal at home. Spurs at home even though it was close. Norwich at home. There's been quite a few games to be honest were we have played really well and dominated, though not all of them have lead to a dominant scoreline. When we have been off, of when the opposition has been particularly inspired, we've still had the grit to grind it out. We're doing exactly what we need to do and that ability to grind it out is what separates us and City right now.

3.) 13 Jan 2020 14:15:10
We create chances every game. Maybe it’s just we’re not putting away as many as people would like. I think Klopp has soured it up a lot since Fabinho has been out and not let the other the midfielders go as high as usual as there is no natural CDM in their.
Saturday, ox hit the post and And Van Dijk had a free header. Heads that anywhere else on target and it’s a sure goal. Would those two goals and at 3-0 made you think that mate?

4.) 13 Jan 2020 14:51:55
When klopp first game and our team would face a superior team. His tactics were to disrupt the oppositions game. Great midfield for winning balls back and the creativity to set the speedy forwards on their way.

Now we are one of the elite clubs. Best in the world. Well, we won the wcc. If not the best we are near the top of the top 5

We have been winning comfortably lately bar spurs. And not just the score line. We've been imperious. It must be so hard for oppo teams. They have to get past our high pressing forwards, our robust and hard midfield (with fabhino back soon WHAT A BOOST FOR THE RUN IN) People will say city lost it coz of key injuries. Well, we are done to 4th cb and he made vvd look 2nd best once of twice. We have a better squad. Fab comes in and sure up our already pretty impressive defencive line. Score and 40 yard screamer against city.

5.) 13 Jan 2020 14:55:15
But on that same basis of think Gaz827 Spurs could easily have scored a few themselves from wasted chances
I’ll take the 1-0 and 3 points and keep my fingers crossed we beat Utd by any score line!

6.) 13 Jan 2020 15:03:44
The home leg against Salzburg was arguably our best performance, attacking wise.

7.) 13 Jan 2020 16:23:11
We should’ve been out of sight by half time against Spurs. We played like the home team and completely dominated every aspect of the game, created 4 guilt edged chances but only scored 1. That then gave them a chance going into the last 10 minutes and they had 2 chances but didn’t take either. Job done.

8.) 13 Jan 2020 16:39:11
Wolfbagger of course bud.
I thought we really did well against Spurs. A Mourinho spurs too.
At 0-0 he was slowing it down and trying to frustrate us. At 1-0 down he couldn’t get the ball on the pitch any quicker if he tried!
I’m of personal thinking that we’re playing decent football but our results aren’t showing that because the press think you need to bag 4 or more to be class.
every Spurs fan I know was dreading playing us Saturday
I think we have cracked it mate

Hardest game of the season is Man U at Anfield. Beat them I’ll break my no drinking till April and toast Liverpool being champions.

9.) 13 Jan 2020 16:44:48
Leicester 4-0
Sheffield Utd 2-0
Bournemouth 3-0
Salzburg 2-0

Can't think of any others really. Klopp did this last year though. Steady start. Then went for it after the Dec/ Jan congestion was out the way.

Come Feb we'll hit full stride.

10.) 13 Jan 2020 17:44:09
Surely smashing Everton 5-2 has to count? I know it was no clean sheet but we absolutely battered them.

11.) 13 Jan 2020 18:09:09
Must have a short memory PB, ha. We are playing winning football that is all that matters. In 80% of the games we have played well. Norwich, Salzburg away was good, Arsenal home, Spurs home, City home, Newcastle home, Burnley away just a few off the top of my head. What do people want jam on it?

In almost every game we have had more chances than our opposition. OP we have far exceeded my expectations.

12.) 13 Jan 2020 20:47:48
Spot on, Mark. We are playing title-winning football (Gary Neville used that exact term last season already) which is play well enuff to win the game in front of you. A team that has to be at it's best to win every game, will win absolutely nothing. A good example would be this same LFC team pre-last season that had to outscore everyone and be a 10/ 10 to win every game. We won nothing doing that and Klopp realized that and the rest is history.

Also, title-winning football does NOT require you being at your best in every game. Even City when they won the PL in the last two seasons where not at their best in every game BUT you did not hear a soul ever say that like it was a bad thing. When it is LFC, the pundits always say it like it is a bad thing. We are ruining people's dreams and making their nightmares come true in real time so to me, we have been brilliant this season and long may that continue.

13.) 13 Jan 2020 23:02:06
Beating City. Them along with us are the best in Europe.

14.) 15 Jan 2020 05:20:30
There were actually quiet a lot of games this season where a nervy scoreline made many forget about the overall performance. Sheff Utd away we should have easily been 3 or 4 up by HT. Spurs at home we hammered their goal only for gazzaniga was on fire, Chelsea Stamford bridge we dominated them all over first 70 mins. Newcastle and Burnley we cruised at ease. Arsenal we played off the park while and Leicester with last minute Milner penalty we should have finished them before HT and dominated. Our problem was a nervy defence for a while but nearly every game we have controlled and created enough chances to score more. Our lack of clean sheets was giving off an unfair vibe towards our performance levels I feel.

I can think of 2 games where we were poor, United 1-1 and villa away we were dreadful . First 45 mins vs Southampton we were 2nd best but should have scored 3 or 4 goals 2nd half.

15.) 15 Jan 2020 11:37:11
Yeah, the city win was amazing. Absolutely blew them away. I'll take a draw at the ethiad. Even a loss ain't the end of the world.

Just saw that Ward is now moving to Leicester. Wish him all the luck he deserves!

pravLFC

1.) 19 Jul 2018 11:58:13
I do feel for the guy, he should never of stayed as 3rd choice keeper last year!

who know's where he could be right now if he had been 1st team keeper for a whole year for huddersfield in the premiership.

Hope he fulfils his talent and it hasn't been wasted.

2.) 19 Jul 2018 12:30:02
FSG out! Why've we not signed anyone today just sell sell sell.

3.) 19 Jul 2018 12:37:47
Yes, hope he kicks on and makes a breakthrough. 👍.

Honestly, I believe the club will assess the performance of Luis Diaz over the next 6 months and then assess the value in keeping Mane or listening to any offers
Mane has been excellent for us and given good memories, but I feel this Liverpool management will be open to selling.

pravLFC

{Ed0666's Note - I think mane goes regardless of what happens with Diaz. We have two younger players who can play the mane role and it would be folly to keep him.

Not sure of the story behind this, can someone explain why / how Mane's head has been turned?
Is it money, trophies or something else?

For me the best transfers are those that aren't expected. Not the big names that every club is following, but the ones that are just as good, who are not noticed as they don't play for the big clubs. I belive klopp and Edwards value such prospects.

Find them before they are superstars and make them superstars without need to break the bank.
