Hi eds, I know you got a lot of questions about who's coming in. Do you have any information in regards to players leaving? Thanks!

stevie876

{Ed001's Note - Goalies: Bogdan will go as soon as he is fit. Probably be January now. Ward is unhappy at being a back up and would like to either be in the team or out on loan.

Defence: Little to no interest in Sakho, his demands and injury on top of our ridiculous asking price has left him high and dry right now. Probably be stuck with him until January, unless someone panic buys him. Flanagan is available for sale.

Midfield: Interest in Can from Juve has now gone for now. It is likely he will see out the season and evaluate his offers when his contract expires in the summer. Strange the way we have messed him about like this when he is clearly seen as a back up when all are fit and we tried to sign another midfielder to push him even further down the pecking order. Milner is the oddity, he wants to be a starter, wasn't happy at playing left back but understand the need, now he is just a utility player, which is what he hated doing at Citeh. While the club are not pushing him out of the door, I am sure he will want us to accept any offers which arrive for him.

Attack: Markovic is available but we have priced him out of a move.}

1.) 18 Aug 2017 07:46:49
Ed you haven't included Morono (I have spelt that right) . Please tell we are not intending to keep him now, on the strength of one good performance preseason. I was hoping his starts were to put him in the shop window.

{Ed001's Note - there is no one interested in meeting the asking price and he has an excellent attitude and works hard at his game.}

2.) 18 Aug 2017 08:07:25
Hi all,
United fan here, thanks for the Eds as always.
What about Draxler as a replacement for the potential Coutinhio departure? Is that possible?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I hope not, we have shown no interest prior to this.}

3.) 18 Aug 2017 08:40:04
To be honest Ed1, I don't think we have messed Can about. He has finished the last two seasons strong, but not started them great. He is quite young so not going to shout about inconsistency etc, in fact I quite like him as a player. He gets plenty of minutes in a season to stake his clame on the first team CM spot and if he plays better than the competition then he keeps his place, same as any player in the team.
Has he done enough to be a regular starter? For me yes, I think he has, but i don't think he has done enough to be the first name on the team sheet. If he wants to be a big player for a big club then he will be competing with top players week in week out for his place, regardless of who is bought and sold.
I am sure that we have offered him a very lucrative new contract, so not sure how we are messing him about?
Maybe I am missing something?

{Ed001's Note - messing him about changing his position, not giving him a chance to settle into one.}

4.) 18 Aug 2017 09:17:54
Ed Do you rate Morono then? I can't see why we brought Robinson. Was he not a Klopp signing? Gomez even would be better at left back.

{Ed001's Note - Moreno was excellent in La Liga but the team was set up for the way he plays, whereas we are not set up to cover for him. We just end up with massive gaps at the back. As for Robinson, no idea who that even is, it would help if you wanted to slag off our players if you learnt their actual names. Gomez was terrible at left back, after a couple of good games, bad enough to get dropped for Moreno prior to his injury.}

5.) 18 Aug 2017 09:55:54
Sorry I meant Roberson. What I meant was why buy him and not play him? I didn't want to slag the players, in fact I'm quite a positive fan, just don't rate our current left back.

6.) 18 Aug 2017 11:35:43
It's been explained over an over, I'm not surprised the ed's get wound up, Jesus read the posts.

7.) 18 Aug 2017 11:43:16
Who is roberson? 😜.

8.) 18 Aug 2017 15:01:03
If can runs his contract down is there any chance he will stay? Won't he be seeing pound signs?

9.) 18 Aug 2017 23:46:51
Doesn't Can want Hendo's position, cos if so and they're both fit, the captain starts in PL and European matches surely?

10.) 20 Aug 2017 08:03:55
The thing is, its not about the money, with Can or Coutts as they would likely be on less money elsewhere.

11.) 20 Aug 2017 09:34:42
Dont think either of them would be on less money and there isn't a need for elsewhere for Coutinho. He wants to go to Barcelona and that is it. They are hardly going to put this effort into signing him then try to short change on the salary. Can, if I am correct, hasn't been on a big deal at LFC and would be getting better money if he signed the deal at LFC. Again he isn't going to be offered less than he is on now by anyone including LFC. Significantly in both cases they have reasons other than money for leaving.

Hi eds,
Have some of our players been of interest from other clubs? if so who? cheers for the good work you guys do.

stevie876

{Ed002's Note - Swansea approached Liverpool in respect of taking Joe Allen on loan in January - it was rebuffed then but interest may exist in the summer. Milan may well take Balotelli but fear that they may need to renegotiate the price before perhaps selling him on. Fenerbahce will look to sign Liverpool’s Lazar Markovic in the summer after a successful loan period but the player will look to discuss his future with the club - and he wants guarantees (I don't know if the club will give them or not). Rangers are interested in Rossiter. Trabzonspor want to take Yesil from Liverpool and have already made an approach to the club. Sinclair still interests Watford but that may drift away - and Enrique will leave. Teixeira has no future at Liverpool and will leave with interest from Sousa (but no agreement with Fiorentina) and Zenit who are already looking at the market and sorting out another critical roll at the club. Interest in Sakho will have gone for now but Barcelona looked again at Coutinho. Bogdan will leave. Benteke or sturridge may well leave - I suspect Benteke. I suspect at the end of season review Ibe might well be seen as surplus. The club cannot keep adding players to an already bloated squad so don't be surprised if Ibe doesn't make the cut.}

1.) 08 May 2016 15:51:26
thanks eds. Anything on skrtel? i don't think he has a future at liverpool with toure now ahead of him and matip coming in.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

2.) 08 May 2016 22:09:01
Do you think coutinho will go if we get CL ed?

{Ed002's Note - I don't even know if there will be an offer.}

3.) 08 May 2016 22:12:57
I'd say if Allen is happy to stay as a squad player then let him stay.

Only if he wants to leave for first-team football would I let him go.

4.) 08 May 2016 22:37:34
Fair enough :)

5.) 09 May 2016 17:51:26
Good shout about Jordan Ibe, for some reason he has been off his game this season, he is a lot better than he has shown put it that way, maybe he knew he was on the list to go and he was unhappy because of this which affected his game, but one shining light came through in shay Ojo he looks a very good prospect and it seems the more he plays the better he looks, and i hope we keep Markovic, because i think under Klopp he will full fill his potential that all the scouts seen in him, we need a right side attacking midfielder or winger and he fits the bill, Klopp has brought the x factor back to the club and we can all see our club his going forward and winning plus klopps record speaks for itself so players will come to the club because of this, if we get Mario Gotze that will be the start of it all,

6.) 10 May 2016 01:18:27
Just read that the ed said marvovic has had a successful loan spell with fenerbache. RALLY?!

{Ed001's Note - can't be that unsuccessful, they would like to make it a permanent deal.}

24 Jun 2015 12:11:42
has there been any updates on yevhen konoplyanka?? are we still interested in him.

thanks

stevie876

1.) 24 Jun 2015 12:41:14
id imagine with firmino signing we have no interest in kono

2.) 24 Jun 2015 13:01:08
Not needed. And not good enough for the prem tbh

3.) 24 Jun 2015 13:19:32
Not good enough for the prem? How so?

4.) 24 Jun 2015 14:17:01
Think if makovic is loaned out and kono lowers his demands it could still happen.

5.) 24 Jun 2015 19:55:06
I wish he would just sign for someone and be done with it.

21 May 2015 08:27:02
question for ED001. youve stated that milner is virtually done and konoplyanka is of interest again. Has there been any further developments of the 2?

thanks

stevie876

{Ed001's Note - when did I say that? Are you sure you are not getting mixed up with what Macca said?}

1.) 21 May 2015 09:25:40
Apologies it was macca. Have you heard any updates on these 2

{Ed001's Note - Milner has an offer on the table from City and is considering it, but it is likely he will look around before committing to anything. He is certainly not a done or nearly done deal yet.

Konoplyanka has an agent that is desperately trying to get him a move to Liverpool, but the interest is coming from West Ham and Spurs right now.}

2.) 21 May 2015 11:23:36
pleasant change to hear a good player is desperate to join us, after all the bad news of late!

3.) 21 May 2015 13:37:11
How often to we go for decent players who'd love to play for us? Turan springs to mind as someone quality and constantly ignored.

4.) 21 May 2015 13:54:55
Nailed it ^^

5.) 21 May 2015 23:16:38
Maybe he jist doesn't want to play for Spurs or the hammers?

6.) 21 May 2015 23:27:48
Maybe we should replace sterling with him, be nice to have someone willing to fight for the shirt

07 Aug 2014 13:29:18
eds 0001 has a bid been made for konoplyanka if not do you see a bid being made this window?

stevie876

{Ed001's Note - no, we know how much we need to pay and probably not now.}

how you going eds. If you have the time could you please give your thoughts on konate as a player? don't like watching youtube videos because they make everyone look good. What are his main strengths and weaknesses?

All the way from Australia here, hope you guys are all safe with the C.V. situation.

stevie876

{Ed001's Note - his main strengths are pace and power, he is very quick and very strong, there won't be many who will bully him.

Weaknesses are his injury history, that is a worry. But also I have only seen him play in a back 3, I don't know how often he has played as part of a 4, it might be he needs time to adapt. The positional requirements are different, as are the disciplinary needs of the position. A back 3 centre-back has an extra man on the cover, so can commit themselves to challenges which would be rash in a back 4, which is probably the main weakness he has. Only time will tell if he is just rash or if he has been rash due to the system they played.}

1.) 12 Jul 2021 12:38:41
Excellent analysis Ed, having watched him a bit if fully agree there. Can be slightly lapse positionally and uses his pace to recover position while a positive to have in the back locker not ideal as a go to as obviously you would prefer better positioning in the first place. As you said aswell this could get exposed a lot more in a 2 CB partnership rather than a 3. Again though he might have been allowed or possibly even encouraged to play this way while in a 3. Hopefully he has the intelligence and work ethic to learn and adapt to a new system. Because if he does he has all of the qualities to excel in our system but it will come down to him learning and working simply. Would be preferable to ease him in but that may not happen with all of our CBs coming back from injuries.

{Ed001's Note - he is only young and so should be able to learn and adapt. He had been playing a fair bit as a full-back/wing-back, so that might also have affected his way of playing.}

2.) 12 Jul 2021 12:44:06
Should be interesting to see how he develops, Ed001 would you consider him as the “ideal “ upgrade Klopp has been craving for? Not sure about Joes physical attributes, but his a big boy with plenty of pace in his tank.

{Ed001's Note - I don't think there is an ideal centre-back out there to be honest. We got the best already in van Dijk and even he has trouble with keeping his focus at times. Maybe it is more about giving Virgil something to focus on, as he was at his best when he was having to shepherd Gomez through games. Once Gomez started to play well, Virgil seemed to lose a bit of concentration. Taking a player with all the potential to be a great but in need of guidance could be a masterstroke to get van Dijk back to his incredible best. A couple of years of Gomez improving and Konate being guided by Virgil could make for a solid defence.}

3.) 12 Jul 2021 12:49:56
How much of an impact do you think playing potentially with VVD will have Ed? Many people have commented that whoever plays next to him looks a better player and I think having someone like him along side you to almost coach you on what you should be doing is invaluable learning.

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced that whoever plays next to him looks a better player, Gomez and Matip defo improved and made themselves better players. In part due to van Dijk's guidance, but I don't think it was playing next to him that made them look better. Quite the opposite as every forward will play on whoever plays alongside Virgil as they know that there is very little chance of getting any change out of him. That means they have to learn quickly to become better players.}

4.) 12 Jul 2021 14:01:56
Must admit, I never saw that coming. Could definitely turn out be that “masterstroke “ you mentioned, either way, we have 2 promising CB on our hands.

5.) 12 Jul 2021 13:48:15
Reading what you’ve said there Ed about VVD almost coaching his defensive partners through games, makes me wonder if he will end up being a very good coach/ manager himself when he gives up playing.

{Ed001's Note - maybe, it is one thing talking a partner through a game and a different one watching from the sidelines though. On the pitch you are positioning relative to each other most of the time.}

6.) 12 Jul 2021 14:10:34
Spot on, Ed. VVD does have an impact on how Big Joe and Matip have plaed and have certainly looked better next to him BUT these players were already very good players when we signed them. Sometimes, they may just have needed to have someone do most of the other stuff they are not good at (leadership, taking charge of things etc. ) while they just focused on actually doing the jobs they are good at and adapting while at it. That's why striking a great CB partnership is never based on the individual ability of each player. It is due to how each one "completes" the other, so to speak. I mean, just check out Bonucci and Chielini. Just my take.

7.) 12 Jul 2021 14:31:08
Sorry Ed think I was misinterpreted, didn't mean looked a better player in terms of smoke and mirrors. Should have said became a better player due to having him being able to almost first hand coach them through games. You have essentially answered in the above post anyway that not only does the partner to VVD benefit but also VVD potentially benefits by keeping him in a state of mind where he needs to remain focused. Appreciate the responses anyway, have a good one mate!

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, glad to have the chat.}

8.) 12 Jul 2021 16:36:44
I think vvd could turn nat philips into an absolute beast. He has the passion and heart. And with vvd he will learn awareness. He is already superb with his heading.
But it will never come to be. Sigh!

9.) 13 Jul 2021 19:27:49
Akira, Phillips is more than likely getting sold IF he wants first team footie which he has earned BUT won’t be getting if he stayed.

16 Jan 2018 10:00:31
question for ed001. Which goalkeeper would you like to see liverpool go in for?

stevie876

{Ed001's Note - Alisson.}

1.) 16 Jan 2018 10:51:53
Oblak is probably totally unrealistic, but he'd be my pick 😂

If not, i like Alisson or Meret.

2.) 16 Jan 2018 11:20:41
It’s only my opinion but whatever keeper we might get has to be accompanied by a new gk coach. Not saying acteberg has had mercs to work with but they’ve all finished as fiestas.

3.) 16 Jan 2018 11:06:56
Is that because Donnarumma is unattainable ed?

{Ed001's Note - no, I think Alisson would be a better choice.}

4.) 16 Jan 2018 12:45:27
Do you think we'll go after him Ed?

{Ed002's Note - It depends what happens elsewhere as to whether Liverpool would be considered as an option by him.}

5.) 16 Jan 2018 13:04:04
Oblak, Alisson Becker or Casteels.

6.) 16 Jan 2018 12:51:36
Ed I haven't seen enough of either Alisson or Oblak play. What makes you prefer Alisson?

{Ed001's Note - Oblak gets much better protection, so it is difficult to judge him in comparison to be fair to him. However Alisson stands out whenever I have seen him play, though it is not as much as I would like to truly judge him, it has been enough to see a player on the level of de Gea in the games I have seen. Maybe even better. Obviously I have not seen every game he has played recently, so might just be lucky to see his best performances, but he looks a class apart.}

7.) 16 Jan 2018 14:35:22
I saw a suggestion that while Oblak does get great protection, that great protection can be partly attributed to his organisation skills.

8.) 16 Jan 2018 15:42:53
Good to know ed. I can now stick a photo of Alisson over Mr January. 😀.

9.) 16 Jan 2018 16:25:49
{Ed002's Note - It depends what happens elsewhere as to whether Liverpool would be considered as an option by him. }

Please do you mind listing the other options that he may want to consider ahead of us? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It is possible, depending on what happens elsewhere, that Real Madrid could look at him but I suspect they will want someone experienced.}

09 May 2017 09:52:27
hey eds just wanted your opinion on ryan babel as a player and his liverpool career.

stevie876

{Ed001's Note - I have not long answered this question. He was too busy with his music to concentrate on footie and lost his way completely. Not even technique and he lacked concentration on the pitch.}

1.) 09 May 2017 10:47:21
Its a real pity as he had all the qualities to be a smashing player.

2.) 09 May 2017 11:10:47
Remember watching him against England u23 before we bought him and he looked like the next theiry Henry ended up more like Lenny Henry.

3.) 09 May 2017 14:39:34
Spot on, Jamesey. I even saw him before that at the U20 World Cup in 2005 (class of Mikel, Senderos, Fabregas, Llorente, Juanfran, El Zahr, Zabaletta and a certain Lionel Messi) and he was class there too. Sad he lost his way.

23 Apr 2017 07:56:18
question for ed001. If you have time could you please let us know your opinions as to who liverpool should bring in this summer and why?

thanks in advance. appreciate the work you guys do.!

stevie876

{Ed001's Note - a left back, preferably Sessgnon or Tierney, as we need someone who can deliver a cross first time, on the run, from the left, on his strongest foot.

A right back, because Clyne is a weak link. Probably Pereira as he then provides extra cover on the left.

Then we need an all action central midfielder to push/replace Lallana, Wijnaldum and Can. Someone who provides a bit of extra protection in midfield for the defence, which needs it. Probably Obiang or Keita I would suggest as Kante is out of reach sadly.

I would not want to do much more than that, as you start to struggle when you make too many changes. It takes a while to bed in new players and that can cost you, like it always did Rafa. For me I think it would be better to give youngsters the chance to push for the other weak spots and give Gomez a chance to establish himself as a centre back, as he will get chances due to injuries.}

1.) 23 Apr 2017 08:16:36
I would add a winger and a CB to that list as well Ed001. Matip is injury prone, Gomez is still inexperienced while Klavan needs to go in the summer. Lovren also seems to miss a lot of games so a qulaity CB is necessary this summer. Mane aside, we do not have genuine wide players in the team. Wilson and Woodburn are not ready yet. If Klopp cannot sign Brandt, the would like to see Markovic been given another chance. The quality is clearly there, its the application and effort that has been lacking and I want to see what Klopp can do with him rather that dumping him on the cheap.

{Ed001's Note - Gomez will not get experience if he isn't given the chance to play, so why buy a centre back? Give Gomez the chance to establish himself and buy in January or the following summer if need be. This summer is not a good time to buy centre backs, every top club is looking for at least one, some are looking for two, the market will be inflated.

Winger again we have young players who need a chance in Wilson, TAA, Woodburn and Ojo, plus the possibility that Markovic will end up staying. If we can not buy a top class winger, I would rather we just did not buy one.}

2.) 23 Apr 2017 08:50:23
Ed, do you not think we should be sorting out the goalkeeping situation this summer? Karius looked okay at times, but not great, and we're all well aware of Mignolet's issues. I'm hoping for a left and right back, one midfielder and a class goalie.

{Ed001's Note - and what goalkeeper could we get? There are no top class readymade ones around to buy.}

3.) 23 Apr 2017 08:55:25
No idea, nor whether the ones I'd like would be realistic. My main worry is going into next season with Mignolet in goal again. We will see more carbon copies of the silly goals from the last 4 seasons.

{Ed001's Note - that is the problem, but we are not the only ones facing that problem.}

4.) 23 Apr 2017 09:31:23
Agree with Ed001, we need quality at Left and right back. These are two key figures in Klopp's setup as they are the providers of width which Clyne is awful at and Milner although he has tried his best is not going to be able to fully deliver what is required. We also need these two players to support our CB's which both Milner and Clyne are not adept at.

Also read recently that LFC are unbeaten in 13 matches with the Matip/ Lovren partnership. Gomez deserves a chance and would rather give that to him than spending £60m on another Soton player who won't be better than Lovren. Would not surprise me if Klopp does bring in another CB though.

If Sturridge goes then another forward without a doubt will be signed and same with Lucas leaving another CM on the cards too.

Do not see our GK situation changing.

5.) 23 Apr 2017 09:42:20
I don't see us going for a keeper at all in the summer. Mignolet has done reasonable over lasted few games. However I think Karius will start next season in goal and will hopefully kick on from this season. I agree with the Eds on centre backs we don't need one we have a talented young one who desperately needs games and for that reason Gomez will need to be given a chance.

Too many signings will not be good. In term she of back five (including keeper) . I think the priority is left back more than any other position. We have Alexander Arnold for the right back slot. Gomez is a very talented youngster and if we brought in say Sessangon that would do me defence wise for next season.

I'd really like us to sign Brandt also a really good young wide player who has skill and would flourish hopefully under Klopp's guidance.

We obviously need a few other players but I'm not going to list preferences for the other positions. But for me I'd like us to get Sessangon and Brandt early on in summer and that's two quality youngsters into the squad that could in my opinion start games from the off for us.

6.) 23 Apr 2017 09:40:54
I feel ed001's pain. Fan bases just want to see loads of new signings every summer.
It's a policy that does not build consistency and good managers know this. I think you can have a maximum of 3 new first team players per summer before it becomes detrimental.

7.) 23 Apr 2017 10:46:56
I appreciate you all want to give Gomez game time which is great and something I really hope he gets too but if it comes at the expense of signing a CB then I can assure you we won't be winning the league any time soon. This shouldn't be our mentality when we the 6th best defensive record in the league and 8 clean sheets out of 33.

Matip is a constant injury concern, Lovren can be a real liability at times and Klavan is simply not good enough in my opinion, a shame as I liked him at first and Sakho looks to be leaving unfortunately. We need to move on Klavan and replace him with a guaranteed starter so we have 3 experienced CB's and Joe Gomez as our options who will get plenty of game time with additional European football next year.

This for me is the number 1 priority and whilst I agree that changing the core of the team too regularly is not a good idea, this is an essential addition if we are serious about our goals.

8.) 23 Apr 2017 13:20:47
We have conceded a massive 150 goals in past three seasons and just adding new two new full backs won't improve this stats. A team that want to play high line without a decent DM need at least top class CB's. Else you would look like a local in front a bullet train. We need a world class winger as well as it was clear when Mane was un-available. We need at least 6 players in the summer and I know what I am saying!

9.) 23 Apr 2017 15:03:15
"I know what I am saying! "

No you don't, you're Harry.

10.) 23 Apr 2017 15:40:07
The team that went unbeaten against the top 6 teams in the league needs 6 new players? Where do you get this from? 3 first teamers would make a huge positive difference. 6 would be another season of 'transition'!

11.) 23 Apr 2017 16:32:01
Ed001,
If LFC sign an all action midfielder whom would he replace of the 3 mentioned? For me Lallana and Wiji stay. Can goes to the bench. But if we do sign a MF, does that put hendos place in Jeopardy as well? His injury situation is tough.

Matt in FL.

{Ed001's Note - why would he have to replace one? There is a lot more games, hopefully, next season.}

12.) 23 Apr 2017 18:19:15
A league consist of 19 games! This is my guess the club will be bringing at least 6 new players ( First teamers of cover )

13.) 23 Apr 2017 19:59:50
Swish the problem is you don't win the league or finish top 4 by beating the top sides only. The problem has been more consistently the inability to kill off the lower teams.

I'd also say those thinking replacing full backs doesn't change things need to consider the situations where goals are being conceded. Back post finishes because the right back doesn't cover and being targetted with crosses that only get in because the ability to block them isn't there. Add in the fact that one FB can only deliver a final ball of any standard once in a blue moon and the other has to pull back inside always and you have another reason.

Having said that there is now a dilemma that there shouldn't be a huge change because it throws stability but equally too many, especially 2 of the CBs aren't top 4 standard. Then you get to injuries and drop off between the injured players and the ones who replace them.

"I know what I'm saying". Even the Eds who are light year ahead of you in footie knowledge, have never made such a ridiculous statement. The fact that you thing you have to make that statement shows that you feel the need to convince us and frankly, you have NEVER convinced us about anything ever on this forum.

question for ed001. Going by what you have seen so far into the season what areas do you think liverpool need to strengthen in the summer period? name some players youd like at liverpool. cheers

{Ed001's Note - sorry I don't have time at the moment.}

I'll answer for fun!

I have been impressed by Gibson of Middlesborough, Sam McQueen of Saints and Antonio of West Ham.

All 3 would fill gaps in our squad at centre back, left back and wide forward.

Apologies it was macca. Have you heard any updates on these 2

{Ed001's Note - Milner has an offer on the table from City and is considering it, but it is likely he will look around before committing to anything. He is certainly not a done or nearly done deal yet.

Konoplyanka has an agent that is desperately trying to get him a move to Liverpool, but the interest is coming from West Ham and Spurs right now.}

any knowledge as to what klopp wants to do with markovic eds?

stevie876

{Ed002's Note - There won;t be any decision at this time but Liverpool know that there is interest in him and the player will not want to be pushed to the fringes of the team again.}

thanks. any bids come in for any of our players? if so who?

stevie876

{Ed002's Note - There has been interest in Ilori and Balotelli - both are over-priced. Right now the price for Ilori will need to drop and unless there is a very significant change in position, I am told that Balotelli will stay.

Liverpool will look to sell Coates, Aspas and Alberto.

I would expect Sterling to move on and there is interest from Manchester City.

Two clubs were at the recent game at Stamford Bridge looking at Coutinho - but it has ended there as far as I know.}
