Hey eds,

As always grateful on your updates and I know we ask regularly anything on the sporting director part. Seems to have quitened down lately. Have we spoken to more candidates yet. Hope Mr Mitchell is convinced.

Thanks
TRLJ.

{Ed002's Note - To the best of my knowledge it remains approaches to three or four and rejection by the first choice - although posters have suggested an internal appointment of Dave Fallows.}

I hope we don't go through the internal appointment route. Fresh new perspectives are needed here.

Ideally we want the best available based on capability and suitability to the job spec. Internal or external is irrelevant imho.

I would like to openly admit that I have no idea who a good DOF would be. But hope that it's someone who fits the culture of the club, can implement the model we are working with.

What we need is someone who challenges current thinking, not a ‘Yes’ man.

We need to make a progressive appointment not a parochial appointment. We previously had Edwards, who was a tough negotiator but failed to offload players we should have got rid of because he was too focused on price. Then Ward who knew about the Portuguese league, what a talent.

Both utterly one-dimensional, just what you want in a Director.

{Ed001's Note - how was Edwards a tough negotiator? He gave all the players much more money than he needed to. If he had been tough it would be an improvement.}

I agree with the ed01.Since winning the champions league. The next 4 transfer windows we bought Harvey, sepp and Minamino 1st summer the next season we put them out on loan and bought Thiago, Jota in the next. The rest of the money was spent putting players on silly contracts. I always believe we should have cleared Ox and Keita the yr we bought Thiago and Jota. But they where put on a high wage at the start. And then as ed02 often said we priced them out of moves. Ed 01 is spot on about Edwards he started believing is own hype.
I know I'm talking a different era when we worked with smaller groups of players but Paisley always got rid of players who didn't cut it at a big club, or who's fitness he couldn't rely on anymore and often at a profit.

{Ed001's Note - it may have been a different era, but the lessons still apply. You don't keep players around that aren't good enough or can't stay fit enough. In fact it is more important now with the financial difficulties of battling with super-rich teams like Citeh, Chelsea and Newcastle.}

Ed, I think I was the first to ask about Fallows. I got that tidbit from the Echo. I certainly don't believe what I read there. If you haven't heard about it, then it isn't true.

I have to point out here - the club were desperately keen to get rid of certain players - including Ox, Naby and Divock - but there were no interested parties. It's not totally on the DOF if a signing fails to deliver, and then wants to sit out their contract on high wages. It's a risk with every signing.

{Ed001's Note - nonsense, there were interested parties just not at the prices being asked for them. So it is on the negotiator who set the price too high.}
