Any chance we'd look at Gundogan Ed's? Or not the right profile?

{Ed002's Note - He is moving elsewhere.}

Agreed, he and B Silva have been annoyingly good for City I want them to leave the premiership with immediate effect please. Cheers.

That silva chap should leave football altogether. He is a sore loser who cannot appreciate genuine winners.

He has to move because of the charges against the club.

No doubt I will be accused of being a City troll for saying this - as I was when I mentioned the fact that our successes in transfers seemed to decline after we were busted for accessing their scouting database. But here goes: I don’t particularly like City (their fans seem utterly chippy, and unable to grasp the joy they have been given), but……you only have to look at City when they first had a windfall, or Chelsea now, or PSG - to see how accumulating all the top players doesn’t always work: all of them basket-cases. Pep is clearly a great manager - though has never been given as difficult a task as Klopp. I also think Newcastle have been superbly run since the arrival of their petro-income. This doesn’t mean I love LFC less; but I think we should always give credit when it is due.

I've said it before but Pep gently guides yachts with Marine radars to their destination and everyone is happy. Klopp steers pirate ships through treacherous waters to treasure islands and enhances lives.

I agree with Monstersouness. As much as I dislike City and their approach, it's not really the players fault of how the club is run and deserve credit for some of the brilliant football they've played and the success it's brought them.

This forum is an example of a lot of fans wanting Liverpool to be able to go out and spend whatever money on any player we want. If we got bought by a state, I would hate it and it would be 'a disgrace' but I have no doubt within 12-24 months I'd care about it less and less. Unfortunately, sports washing is a real thing and id be a hypocrite to say id have strong enough morals to hate the people investing in my club, and often community, especially if they are successful.

As for Silva, he's a player opposition fans love to hate because of his s**thousery, we've have/ had Suarez, Robbo, and to a certain extent Trent and Jota, over the last few years who fit that bill. As much as he's a panto villain I reckon the vast majority of us would think he was amazing if he was wearing the Liverpool shirt. That said, he's a brilliant player but I'd happily see the back of him for city.

I agree, look at pep’s resume…. managed the best club in la Liga at the time who threw money at the best players, then went to the best club in the bundesligue and bought the best players, then went to Man City, the wealthiest club in the world at the time who were had already won the premiere league under Mancini and cemented themselves as a title contender, and were already throwing money at players and now had a manager who could attract big players for even bigger money! Could he do the same with a team like Liverpool which works within its means, or a club like Brighton or wolves who would have limited budgets? Nope.

Always feels a bit of an inferiority complex that we have this need to afford energy trying to invalidate Pep's achievements. It's all ifs and buts, so simply we'll never really know how Pep would do with another team.

On another note how many of you here can say honestly that you would have wanted us to sign Akanji? Ake? Stones? Grealish? Phillips?

For whatever we want to say and offer other reasons for why they win, at the end of the day they win, and they win a lot, again and again. For me Pep has to have something to do with that.

We're not saying Pep is not a great manager, he's exceptional and completely floods any club he takes over with a winning mentality. But he's always had the luxury of having anything he wants, splurging copious amounts of money on players without a worry of managing wages. He's never been in a situation where squad depth has been raised, the one season their defence looked slightly frail (laporte being injured) they dropped 20+ more points than their usual heights.
Klopp often has to negotiate these scenarios.
I'd love to see the tables turned to see how each fare. pretty sure life as a manager is easier with endless options instead moving players into positions they've rarely ever played (milner lb, fab/ hendo CB etc)

I’d agree with that Skezza. I heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago how Pep improves players and they used Grealish as an example.

My argument is, it’s very easy to improve players when you have 2 or 3 top players who can play instead of them. They either step up or they don’t play.

When most teams spend big on a player the manager has to play them. They don’t get the luxury of dropping them until they earn their place in the team or getting rid at a loss if they don’t. This can make it much more difficult to motivate the players.

Pep does bring a winning mentality but the jury will always be out as to how good he is until he takes a proper job where he will lose lots of games. I always think that the very best managers are the ones that can go through tough times and turn it around. So far his managerial career has been a very easy ride.

Some nonsense in this thread, he goes to the biggest clubs because they pay to get him and know he wins trophies, great great manager. Strange how so many know he wouldn't have won if he had come to Liverpool, any chance of the Lottery numbers for tonight's draw from your Crystal balls?

I see that more as a luxury for Pep rather than a necessity. I have no doubts that he could drive a similar mentality and performance level from our team. and hey who knows, maybe a different approach to how we play wouldn't lead to so much burnout / tired midfielders.

Absolutely great manager but didn't he spend 30m plus on defender after defender after until he got it right? Where else in world football would he be able to do that?

I mean even at Liverpool, his greatest rivals during his tenure at City, they cannot afford to waste 30-40 odd million on player after player

Great manager though, the team he has built is special and its a shame its all tainted by the financial mismanagement of those that run the club.
