If u want to give Emre can a big thumbs up then u are totally clueless about the game. After all, what is emre can? He is a defensive midfielder. His role is the same as Fernandinho of city or Matic of chavski. Which is to DEFEND. The one and only job of a defensive midfielder is to protect the back line. That is it. If somebody is not good at that then it doesn't matter what else they do.

Emre can can not defend. He has a 0 defensive awareness or instict. Yes I know he bursts forward a few times in a game but how does that help? It doesn't matter wtf he does if he simply can't defend nd protect the back line. Defensively he gets run over like a stooge. Becuz he ain't an expert like Lucas or mascherano or busquets.

He is as clueless as Charlie Adams was when he played there for a few games for us. A proper central defender was the problem we had during Bodgers. We conceded so many silly goal during him. Beciz we had no cdm. And usually u need two not one. city have Fernando nd fernandinho. Rafa had Lucas and mascherano. What a joy it was to see Lucas and masch play together.

They dominated the shit out of teams like real Madrid at that time. And here we are now. Bodger brought these one dimensions Run Past 10 men dribblers. They can not defend. They can not pass like modric. All they can do is dribble past 5,players at a time and lose the ball. In our entire squad we have only one cdm. One expert cdm Lucas. Lucas woudve dealt with Sevilla on his own.

Milner is another stupid player. His defensive work is soooo awful. I request u guys to watch him defend in the midfield role for one. Shocking. Even a league two player can run past him 3 times then nutmeg nd do all sorts of stuff. Thank god we have klopp. He knows wat joke we are dealing with . He needs nd will get proper defensive midfielders in the summer.

I agree I feel can is massively overrated by people that don't understand the position properly. Just watch him closely and you'd understand he has massive deficits playing in that sitting role.

Yesterday was a perfect example at how weak our midfield is when you don't have any experience and top quality in there. Can has a lot of potential but people are making him out to be our future captain (which is borderline nonsense) or the finished article and he is far from any of them. We need a much better midfielder. Someone that reads the game well with proper midfielders quality and experience, to either partner hendo or can.

Let it be known that a fully fit and on form hendo is miles ahead of a fully fit on form can. Hendo just understands the position a lot better. Can is not a defensive midfielder, I'd say he's more of a box to box midfielder but isn't even good at that as his stats suggest.

Even hendo being injured for most of the season he still registers better figures than can. Yet can is somehow seen as our midfield maestro haha. If that's the case then it just proves how bang average our squad is as can should never in a million years be our best midfielder.

Emre Can is not a defensive midfielder. some believe so just because rodgers played him at right back and center backs. he can fill those roles because well he had to, to be in the team. similarly for germany. he is box to box player, he loves to run with the ball etc etc .

he is more similar to henderson.
he never is was will be a defensive mid. he can sometimes dominate the midfield with some tackles interceptions and winning headers but he cannot protect your defence by sitting in front of it. it baffles me now that lucas didn't start the final to provide defensive cushion since sakho wasnt there and moreno has always been a liability defensively.

It just tells you how clueless klopp is at times. All he wants is the gegenpress and whilst it worked well in the first half once sevilla changed in the second half we got ran over, partly because we were still trying to press instead of defending, partly because it takes a lot out of players. as soon as we conceded quick in the second half and were literally destroyed in the first five minutes he should have brought on lucas or even skrte (well not really) to absorb and shore up the defence just to break their play and momentum.

Instead he continued with his team and brought on a half match fit origi in for firmino once we had conceded the second. How stupid is that? once you are 2-1 you have to get rock solid defensively and get lucas on to ensure you don't concede the third and are in the game but no, he brings on allen and benteke next! So we weren't good at all but it has to go down to Klopp, he didn't change the system right, you can't gegenpress once its found out.

Football finals are won solely on great defensive prowess alone. We would have won the game if after their first goal and relentless pressure he would have sent Lucas on to just do what lucas does. Intercept and break play and slow down the game.

I had not said this for long enough but I can't believe how people here just jump on players it was 100 percent klopps fault, he should changed his system in the second half when they were ascending all over us. he didnt. yea moreno can etc well the entire team didn't do much at all to help their cause but i think their desperation got them weak in the knees.

at that time you needed senior cool and defensively sound players like lucas or even skrtel to change the pace of game and make it a bit scrappy. instead klopp let us be ran over still stick with the press. and it obviously doesn't need bright mind to realise when you press for the ball with two three players pressuring for the same ball you are leaving huge gaps in the pitch and when the opposition knows this they will just play the ball in the gaps expecting one of their player reaches it.

and then its their attack. so to play that kind of game one has to ensure their is always lucas sititng back to ensure their is one player filling in the huge gap in midfield. unfortunately for us in basel neither of can or milner were capable enough to be that man. and it hurt us. i hope Klopp understands he can't act all stubborn with his gegenpress and incorporates more styles in his coaching.

I hope he understands his way has been found out big time at times in this season. so while many first 30 minutes of the game will go our way but the game might not. So either he makes his players machines in training that can relentlessly successfully gegenpress the whole 90-95 minutes or he adopts some tactful changes in his style.

I fear Klopp will not change his style but he will rather train his players to the max to play his style of game. whilst we might win many games in the league with his style, i don't think its the best style for a big final. I am with Klopp 100 percent, if he thinks he can train the team to press 90-95 minutes he will do it. But its always necessary to accept sometimes that you way is failing and be proactive and switch to plan B. with passionate guys like Klopp sometimes that is an issue, its hard for them to change something they believe in.

Hope that made sense, and wasnt complete rubbish. i try to write in english, so please excuse my punctuation and tenses.

then its just headless people running for the same ball leaving gaps behind them. Ed001, how many times did two or three players try to go for same player to win the ball leaving gaps that surely has to be press. if not what was that? over eagerness?

Im sorry ed01, but i cudnt make sense of your opinion. You said that can only switched to holding position when allen came on. Then please explain that who the heck was playing holding position untill that time if it wasnt can. Nd wat position was can playing. Can is not a cdm.

I know dat. He is clueless in that position. But that does not mean that he was not playing cdm for us. because he was. So what your saying ed01 is totally illogical. He has always played the deep midfield position which is known in football as cdm. If u didn't know. And if u play further upfront they call u CAM. Now can is not a genuine cdm. I thibk he should be playing CAM as his defending is shite. But u need to understand a simple fact that when u play deep in midfield, or let's say u play right in front of the back line (saying this incase u don't understand what a deeper midfield role is), then u are a holding midfielder.

Nd no matter if your leo messi or ronaldo or maradona, your main job is to protect the back line. Even if u have the tag of an attacking midfielder, that is your job. Nd that's y your the holding midfielder which emre was.
