With the news coming in off Joe Gomez unfortunately re injuring himself (Achilles) I believe, is there possibly good chance off incoming CB now with Sakho injured aswell Srktel having just been sold and Toure not getting a contract, I'm aware we have Ilori and Wisdom but not entirely sure what there future in red shirt is at, is there chance new CB or use Ilori or Wisdom as further back up to see us over eds? Thanks appreicate any reply.

{Ed001's Note - it is usual for players coming off long term injuries to get more short term injuries at first. No need to panic buy.}

Will Llori and Wisdom be sold ed? Tbh they've both done well in the 2 freindlys? All be it against poor opposition.

{Ed001's Note - it is up to them to force their way into the team's plans. Right now they are available for transfer, but they can change that.}

It depends how bad the Achilles injury is. He could be out for only 6 weeks or so. It's s bit drastic to sign another centre back because a backup has picked up an injury.
Alternatives are Ilori, Wisdom, Lucas and Can.

I agree with Ron do you ed? Very rash to sign a new CB with the 2 injured only out for 4-6weeks. We have enough cover.

{Ed001's Note - that's why I said no need to panic buy. We do not need more players right now, we need to get rid of some.}

If it is a serious injury and Joe is likely to be out for longer than the usual 6 weeks with this type of injury, why don't we go and re-sign Toure? Not seen anything that he's agreed a contract with anyone and I'm sure he'd jump at the opportunity to come back.

Honestly see no need to buy a CB, chance for the young guns to get a look at.

Again, why sign another CB?
We still have Lucas at the club who could easily slot into CB should the need arise.
All dependant if Lucas stays obviously, personally, I think he will.

Seriously Ron Can? The most indisciplined player to play at the back? Lucas is the best among.

We don`t need to buy anyone. get a CB from the youth team to step in. Enuff with the panic buys because it`s doing my head in.

Hi Ed, Do you think any Manager would have confidence in two players based on what happens in training and during friendlies? Would that give him enough time to make a decision rather than playing someone out of position like Lucas (as well a job he did standing in last season)?

What is the usually process for making a decision based on training for picking someone for cover?

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on the manager, but many do use the friendlies to test out possible players.}

I would lean towards training and attitude. After all, most learnings for players come from training and the manager would be able to judge how receptive they are to his methods.

GoT - I don't know about you but in my opinion Can was indisciplined as a midfielder too when he played for the previous regime, but he has improved under this one.
He has never played at centre back for Klopp but he is obviously not so indisciplined to play for the world champions as a defender.
I'm not suggesting Can, Lucas, Ilori or Wisdom start as centre backs. We are a month before our first competitive game. We have Lovren and Matip as starters. Generally Klopp plays with 2 central defenders.
You can't sign world class players to sit on the bench week after week. We don't have a difficult fixture load this season. We have to avoid signing players for short term problems and start utilising our squad.
