I think this is a fair point. We would have taken a UEFA cup and 6th place in '15-'16, would we not? When we evaluate the seasons the 2 clubs have had this season though, it could be argued that champions league qualification was more important to our continued development than winning a domestic cup. For Jose, however, getting any trophy was more important. The short term priorities of the 2 teams are different.

How can a season where you win 2 trophies and achieve champions league qualification be deemed as a failure? Using that logic we should deem 2005 as a failure because while we won the european cup, we finished 5th. I think people are just bitter tbh its a great achievement. Although i do have to say their run to the final, the teams that took part this season in the europa league, the quality of their play in all of the games and lack of quality of the opposition - all that considered, their europa league win has been a total joke.

2 trophys and champions league (straight to group phase)

0 trophys and cl qualification to groups still needed.

Good all round. There is a difference though.

No they didn't and your obviously easily influenced by the media!

It shows how desperate they are and in particular mourinho, when he and them class the the CHARITY SHIELD as a trophy, it's a pre season friendly. Fact!

But he and United fans can try and gloss over a poor season with this 3 trophies shout all they want, most of us (clearly not you Liverbrd) can see it for what it was, papering over the cracks. If champions league would not have been attached to last night's win, would they have felt the same about the season?

Probably, because there the most arrogant self centred fans on the planet, but privately they'd have been gutted. Your judged by your league position and there is no dispute here, they've been poor, considering they spent around £200 million.

There is no way on earth that two trophies and a CL berth, is a failure overall. Why? I would have taken that this season at a drop of a hat.

Now if LFC has spent 250m plus in one summer (including 100m for the most expensive player in history), running your mouth all season of how you would smash everyone and win the PL, then you end up in 6th behind everyone you outspent and pretty much using PL games as friendly matches in preparation for the EL final. If all that happened then that throws a lot of shade on your idea of success.
