Ed, why can right footed players play left full ( Carra Maldini Irwin Milner) and no left footed ones van play right full? I can't think of one?!

{Ed001's Note - they can, but left footed players are much rarer, so there is little need for them to move to the right, while there is usually a shortage of quality left footers.}

I always thought that Glen Johnson had his best games at left back.

Irwin is left footed.

{Ed001's Note - Irwin was right footed.}

A well known and successful manager, the late Tomislav Ivic once said, "If a right footer plays LB, he automatically loses 30% of his capabilities as an effective FB". That may not always be true as some FB's can really make it work but most of the time, it is.

Trying to imagine what Clyne with 30% less capability would be like.

Makes sense Ed. Cheers for reply. Irwin definitely was right footed. He was like myself. had a good left foot and a great right one. HA.

{Ed001's Note - he was the one Man Utd player of the time I actually liked, was always a genuinely nice guy off the pitch and gave his all on the pitch, but was a right footer. Took penalties brilliantly too.}
